I needed medication from a psychiatrist, yes the wait was long. It’s an emergency room, duke is at least 2 to 3x as long. The doctors and staff were super friendly, even being busy. I’m not sure about all the negative reviews. I had a great experience don’t hesitate to give it a chance.

I transferred my VA care from the now defunct W/S location and make the drive from GSO because of the care. Hi have received good care in the prime Clinic, Dermatology and Sleep Clinic. All of the staff and Physicians have been professional and very friendly. I understand that some people may not have gotten the best service but I always treat people with the level of respect that I would want to receive an intern have had a good relationship with this VA facility. My 4-star rating is only do to the simple fact that it is a older facility with aged restrooms.

I went to the Emergency Department for the first time since COVID-19 hit today. I was blown away by the level of professionalism, respect, and kindness I was shown. I wish I could remember the names of the receptionist, nurses, and doctors who attended me. I was treated like a hero. Durham VA Emergency Department staff truly cares for America’s Veterans, and they show it. Thank you so much!

Smokers BEWARE!!!! Went to the VA for breathing complications and after I was asked if I smoke, the doc said it must be early signs of COPD and ended the visit. Left with nothing to help me other than his 45 second visit with me. Turns out going to Duke, a lung infection is way more likely and the true culprit. I’m sharing this to warn smokers that VA docs care nothing about us. They hear “smoker” and instantly it’s COPD and they look NO FURTHER! Docs of the VA, smoking is bad I know but it’s not the cause of everything. Please please stop being lazy Dr. Knap 🙏🏻

The social skills and helpfulness of the subjects located in the foyer as well as the initial intake clerks is pretty darn underwhelming. Dont expect to receive any physical help or exchange of pleasantries.

If i could give a negative star, i would. How can a receptionist for an office not know if the doctor is present or not?! I have been waiting for a call back from my husbands doctor for an hour so i decided to call and just see if maybe my message had not been given to the doctor. Just as i expected, the receptionist did not even try to contact his doctor and the next one i spoke to told me said he believed the doctor wasnt even in today. A bunch of incompetents if you ask me! Good thing all these veterans fought for you to sit behind a cushy desk all day.

Ive been going to the Durham VA Hospital since 2013...Over the years we all have had some ups and downs...Seems like when things are going great some bureaucrat comes in and messes up the whole works.(example travel pay,we used to stand by the wall to get our number called, took forever. Then they were doing travel at the clinics,we get travel pay in 2-3 days...Now some BUREAUCRAT has got us back waiting 45 days and they cut the miles) But the medical care I get from Prime D (Paul,Marie,Susan ,Alicia,Jill) is world class health care. Same way in audiology Susan gives me great care,Vision Clinic Im on the Silver Team in a emergency he worked me in through ER only took 30 minutes (Greenville ,NC VA said they could get me in 5 yes FIVE WEEKS) To point Let the medical people and staff do their thing,,,And you BUREAUCRATS stop messing everything up and taking up all the parking spaces,,,

Its absolutely appalling, without the slightest hint of compassion, concern and with blatant condescending animosity, each doctor I have encountered here, (and has been many) this is the treatment I have received. I am a 100% disabled vet, a man of honor and pride, respectful and tolerant. I leave here 99% of the time in tears, a man beaten, discouraged and ashamed.

I use to think highly of the Durham VA but after today Monday Memorial Day my opinion has changed. My husband who is a veteran went to get a prescription filled because he had to go to the ER last night. He had to go to Wake Med since it is 10 minutes down the road from our house. We are a one car family so he had to leave work early come get me and I had to take him to the ER. He got medication prescriptions from the ER Dr. He went on his lunch to get the prescriptions filled because he was closer to the VA at work. The useless pharmacist gave him a hard time and now he has to be seen in the VA ER to get his prescriptions filled. What?????Why is this even happening???He has now been sitting in the ER for over 30 minutes no one has come in to see him and this is all to get a prescription filled. He has called the White House Hotline and tomorrow he will put in another call to the local congressman. This is no way to treat our veterans. If you are not in the position to help then you should lose your position. He has a very bad case of anxiety and PTSD and this situation is not helping. David Moore the pharmacist is the person who started all this bs. The woman at the front desk refused to give my husband her name. Now my husband has left and he has no medication and he is so upset he is shaking. This is not acceptable at all from any of the staff members at the Durham VA.Rest assured we know who you are and we will deal with you accordingly.

I am a 100% permanent and total Service Connected Veteran. I have been going to the VA Hospital in Durham since 1996, I have had 6 surgeries (most, if not all on my spine and neck, which I still call spine.) Anyway, yes, there have been times when I have not been completely pleased with some of the Doctors there. 99% of the time I have been 100% pleased and satisfied with the service I received. I realize that there are many other veterans who may be worse off than myself, (internally, with some major issues you cannot look at and know right away, PTSD, Cancer from Agent Orange or what they try not to claim is Gulf War Syndrome, as well as issues like my spine.) Who am I to judge? I just know that the care I have received has been Stellar and completely professional! Even if it is a teaching hospital with Doctors and nurses rotating from Duke, I feel very confident that I have been treated with respect and always thanked for my Service.Only one time when I went into the ER (on my Doctors orders from the Greenville, NC VA) did I get bad treatment and dismissed almost as soon as Dr. Kahn walked in the room. I had been to the local ER twice and finally gotten an appointment at my local VA, was told to go right away into the ER at Durham to get an MRI because I was in so much pain and could not stand! I was dismissed without an MRI or even an exam by the Doctor in charge of the ER, (the pain started June 9th, I tried to tough it out till I could not any longer and by this time it was July) Dr. Kahn walked into the room in the ER and took one look at me, within 2 minutes he was trying to remove my wrist band the hospital put on me and was saying that I was wrong and I was fine, but he would Graciously set up an MRI at my local VA Clinic... In August, I finally had my MRI, they found that my L-4 L-5 disk had Exploded, (yes, exploded to twice the normal size on my right side pushing on my nerve root to the point that I needed to have surgery!) Those folks who actually took care of me were Angels! I ended up in SICU after surgery on Oct. 20th, one of the nurses, Heather Stanley was there and she treated me like I would assume she treats All her patients, with dignity and respect.I was lucky enough to have her as well as, Padideh Imeni (hope that is correct) Kashani, and Lisa Abison take care of me for my most recent neck surgery (Aug.22nd), I was in the CCICU due to renovation of the SICU... I am not sure if Padideh and Lisa work always in CCICU or in SICU with Heather... I just know that I felt comfortable and completely safe as well as respected as a Human Being once again!I know that there were many other individuals who made up my care team, it was those three that I was able to get names on...I want to send a Heartfelt Thank You and Complete Gratitude for everything all of them did to make a serious situation bearable for me and my wife! I am coming in today for my follow up with Neurosurgery. I can only hope and pray that everyone there is continuing to be safe and healthy so they can continue the Great work they have Been doing!People can always find a reason to complain, I wanted to Congratulate them and Thank Them for a Job well done, one that is truly a Calling! We need More like those three, (sorry I did not get the names of everyone on my care team... )Sincerely, Thank You!
