We just got our 7 month old Golden back from board and train last week and have absolutely no regrets about sending him to Rob. He is up-front about his expectations and training methods. Hes thorough and dedicated to making sure that your dog comes back well-trained for your lifestyle and family. He also works with you have the tools to continue the training at home, so your dog doesnt lose what they learn and can adapt to new situations. With two small kids and a full schedule of our own, having a well-trained dog is truly life changing and beyond appreciated. We cannot recommend him highly enough.

I called Rob about 4 weeks after I brought my first puppy home. My goal was to have a well behaved dog that would not jump on people when they came into my home, not tear my house apart, and overall just be a good dog. Rob would not start formally working with my dog until she was 4 months old but gave me tons of tips even prior to formally working with us as I was working through potty training, nipping, and crate training. After our first lesson, I was assured that hiring Rob was the best decision I could have ever made. Throughout our private lessons, he was ALWAYS available for questions in between sessions. He was always on time and very accommodating to my schedule. Rob was very patient with me as I was learning for the first time too. I highly recommend Rob and his private lesson program!

If you have behavioral challenges with your dog that you’re struggling to overcome, I highly recommend working with Rob Masters at Dogs Listen to Us and his private sessions. At our very first session, Rob offered the firm guidance that I needed to get my timid, one-year old collie pup on regular walks around the neighborhood. Before training with Rob, I often struggled to get Skye past a block from my house because he was so nervous with me and on the leash and collar I used at the time. Rob’s further guidance on stay commands, heel commands, and an E Collar has helped me build a trusting relationship with my dog and increased my confidence in both of our capabilities, so I now feel comfortable taking him most places I go. Because of the discipline Rob provided, Skye and I have much more fun on walks, in parks, at breweries, and now even off leash! I can’t believe how far we’ve come, and I’m very thankful for his services!

Rob has improved the quality of our daily lives with our two dogs more than we can perhaps communicate in words. After being hesitant about the investment for private lessons, we quickly realized what a tremendous value it was. We told everyone we knew after that first session that we would have paid the full fee if that first session was the only session. Our golden retriever, Huck, was quickly renamed by our friends and family as good boy Huck for his rapid transformation. We can now take him into just about any situation with a relaxed mindset and confidence that we have control over him on, or off the leash.Robs no-nonsense approach put us at ease and simply worked. Our private lessons took place at our house, a couple other locations in the world and ended with dog introductions at his house with some of the board and train dogs. Rob worked to deliver on every single thing we told him we were concerned about when we spoke with him before we started lessons, sometimes remembering concerns that we had long forgotten. Were now taking what we learned in our sessions with Huck to train our now 4-month-old puppy in the same way. We recommend Rob to everyone we possibly can, and will continue doing so every chance we get. Thanks, Rob!

I found Rob while reading reviews for dog trainers in the Durham area, and his were quite encouraging -- hed rehabilitated a number of dogs with serious issues. I did wonder if we needed something so intensive for our dog, as he was just four months old and wed had him since two months. Hes a lab, so he was displaying a lot of puppy behavior at a high and constant frequency -- nothing terribly destructive, but a lot of leash pulling, jumping, biting, chewing, etc. More than anything, it was constant work, and we needed a consistent method of training.Weve just completed training with Rob and I would absolutely recommend it for all dogs -- even the ones like our pup who dont seem terrible, but who could use a little bit of work. We walk him every day off-leash on a remote collar, and he heels perfectly. We can send him to a variety of place locations throughout our house, and he has all of basic commands mastered. Most importantly, we have a system in place now that can address any type of behavior that we want to correct.Training made everyones life better/easier -- my wife, myself, but most importantly, our dog. His walks are much more fun knowing that he can explore off-leash as much as he wants and immediately return to heel upon being called. He gets rewarded upon consistently displaying good behavior, to the point where after time, we rarely if ever need to use the remote collar to correct. I would highly, highly recommend investing in training with Rob at any stage, but especially with a puppy in establishing behaviors at a formative age.

THE BEST!!! My husband and I reached out to Rob after hearing great things through a mutual friend who was also working with Dogs Listen To Us. We are expecting a baby soon and desperately needed help with training our one and a half year old crazy chocolate lab, Pua. Pua was a dog who would pull on the leash, never listen to us, would jump on people, and was just an all around wild girl. After our first conversation with Rob, we were so excited and confident in his skills. So, we traveled all the way from our hometown Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Rob in Mebane, North Carolina to have Pua get started on her lodge and learn! Our first session we already noticed a difference in her walking after only being there for 4 days. Now after graduating, she is incredible at walking on a leash, is much more calm, and does not jump on people! Rob was also great with communication and so flexible with his schedule. He was wonderful at answering any questions we had and still have. We cannot wait for our sweet Pua girl to meet our baby boy now that we have a calm dog in our house. We HIGHLY recommend Dogs Listen To Us to anyone who is looking for dog training. Even if you are hours away, make the trip. It is so worth it. Thank you so much Rob for everything!! You truly are amazing at what you do!!!!

My wife and I just got our 6 month old doberman back from board and train with Rob and we are extremely happy with the results. Rob is professional, responsive, and most importantly an effective dog trainer. If you have any hesitancy about e-collar training just have a conversation with Rob about his training practices and you will immediately be put at ease. Our dog is so much more engaged and obedient and still has the same great personality as when we dropped him off. Could not recommend highly enough.

When I got my dog at the beginning of 2020, I never imagined all of my plans for my pup would be derailed. From puppy training classes to even just going on strolls through the park. No one could anticipate a pandemic putting a stop to everything accept a growing puppy. I initially hoped I could pick up the slack and train her myself after her puppy obedience classes were cancelled indefinitely, but boy was I wrong. While Id done extensive research on the Doberman breed and their attributes I was not prepared for the sweet sweet monster Id raised. My girl Friday was definitely the queen of the house. And her lack of manners from jumping on me, to dragging me on walks and just over all ignoring me was becoming increasingly more & more overwhelming. I knew I needed help as Id made a promise to her and myself that if I was going to get a puppy I was going to be all in when it came to her care and we both needed help. After relocating to Raleigh shortly after getting her I began researching different types of training in person and boarding. I spoke with quite a few companies but what really stuck out to we with Rob at Dogs Listen to Us is that he didnt just try to sell me throughout the call. He listened to all of my concerns and my goals for not just my dog but for myself. ( I definitely needed just as much if not more training). He even gave me some tips that I could start implementing on my own with her which I truly appreciate because I immediately noticed an improvement in certain areas. Shortly after our first conversation I asked for references and Rob sent over a few and then sent over more per my request. A consistent across my conversations with all of his clients were that Rob is very direct & straight to the point hes training you as hes training your pet and that it was the best decision theyd ever made. I liked that everyone I spoke with stated that their dogs personality was exactly the same even though they were like a new dog. After speaking with his references I scheduled an in home consultation with Rob. First, plus upon meeting him in person was that he correctly guessed why Id chosen the name I did for my dog. ( literally no one before or since has correctly gotten it). Second plus was that in the short hour or so we talked he began training my girl to stay in place. She clearly picked up that he was the real deal. Seeing her beginning to fall in line in such a short period of time really gave me hope. That final meeting was the confirmation that I needed that I wanted to move forward. I felt comfortable with him based on our conversations over the phone, In person and per his references and most importantly my dog felt comfortable. On the day she left for training. Ill admit it was hard seeing her drive away with Rob as wed never been apart but I knew it was a good thing. Almost every week Rob and I would meet and practice what hes been teaching her. And each week I could see the difference and her improvement. Rob kept her for a little longer than a month because he wanted to work with her a little longer and though the time apart was difficult when I got her back seeing how much shed improved was so worth it. Everywhere I went people complimented me on how well behaved she was. Being able to finally work without her jumping on me or roaming around because she now stays in place or come when I call her has been such a huge relief because it was so hard especially working remotely from home. This training is definitely an investment that is worth it and Im so grateful to have discovered Rob. Even though I missed her terribly while she was gone I definitely slept comfortably because I knew she was in good hands and being take care of. Honestly the day he dropped her back off to me I think she was a bit depressed that he was gone and at our first follow up visit she was so excited to see him. Rob is an amazing trainer. Your dog will be in wonderful hands and he will help you and your dog build a better relationship. He definitely helped me so much!!!

Rob helped give structure and discipline to my dear, active, crazy little pup who needed a little bit of reform school. He gave me the tools to train my dog to be obedient, well mannered and to listen to me. As a sometimes soft spoken person, it was helpful to see my dog respond to Robs authoritative tone and to learn from Rob. Its definitely been a huge game changer. I went from walks around the block with my dog where Id come back frustrated and demoralized that the tips and tricks Id tried to learn from Youtube werent working very well and sometimes there just werent enough hotdog bits to make my dog do what I needed him to do. The end product is that my dog walks like a champ on a loose lead or off lead when I ask him to, ignores squirrels, other dogs and the things that go zoom that used to get him very excited. I can take him for walks in the woods off leash, knowing that all I need to do is tell him heel once to have him sitting by my ankles looking up at me in five seconds. Anyway, Rob is very good at what he does, you should call him if you need a dog trainer.

You know someone has a great business when you leave a positive review for them without even officially working together. I reached out to Rob to get help for my adult dog that I just recently got. Hes otherwise quite obedient but had bad separation anxiety in the crate when left home alone (excessive nonstop barking). This was stressful for both my dog and I as I got some noise complaints and felt like I couldnt ever leave him alone. After understanding the specifics of my situation, Rob suggested that instead of enrolling in expensive training, I look into a $100 bark collar. He even made time to hop on the phone with me to explain his thoughts and answer my questions. Lo and behold, the collar is magical and my dogs crate barking has almost completely stopped in just 2 days. I really appreciate that he opted to give me the best / most efficient solution. Now I know exactly who I will go to for future training needs!

Spring 2020, like half of America we got a pandemic puppy, Jeff. About 4 weeks into our new life as dog owners, I was thinking it was probably the dumbest thing I had ever done. For anyone who knows me knows that that is saying a lot, but it seriously was. The dog was ruling our lives and we were miserable. Then, midsummer we contacted Rob. We were headed out of town for a few weeks, and Rob said if we get a few sessions in before the trip, youll have a much better time on vacation. It was the first of many wise suggestions we received from Rob. After our first hour of working with Rob, our lives as dog owners and Jeff’s life as a dog were forever changed. We quickly learned how to lead our dog and create situations for positive behaviors. Jeff was noticeably happier with our new approach. Each session was as much for training us as it was for Jeff. Rob did all the hardest work with the dog then mentored us on how to practice the skills and cement the training. Rob really trained our whole family. He showed an abundance of patience with us as we all learned to be dog owners together. We are now the happy dog owners of a happy dog. I highly recommend Rob.

There have been two very distinct phases in my relationship with my Aussie pup Forest: Before Rob and After Rob. It’s difficult to adequately explain just how much better and less stressful our lives are as a result of the Dogs Listen to Us training program, but here’s what I can say - Forest is far happier knowing what the rules are and I’m far happier being able to trust him. Knowing that he’s going to come to me when I call means that I can let him run free at the beach, his absolute favorite thing in the world. Knowing that he will get into his kennel and sit quietly when I tell him to means that I feel more comfortable having guests over. We have more fun playing and do it more often because now he actually drops the frisbee when I tell him to. We’re able to go on hikes off leash because I trust that if he strays too far from me he’ll come back to me as soon as I call him. Even just simple leashed walks around the neighborhood, which used to be a nightmare because of his pulling, are now this immensely enjoyable thing we do together everyday. Basically, both of our lives have improved in pretty significant ways. It might sound kind of counterintuitive that stricter rules and consequences would result in more free, joyful moments and an overall happier and active lifestyle, but it’s absolutely true. When Forest is under a command he knows exactly what is expected of him and happily behaves accordingly, and when he’s on ‘free’ mode I get to laugh at him zooming around being his wild wacky energetic affectionate self and acting like the lovable weirdo that he is.What made Lodge & Learn perfect for us was that Rob was able to really work with Forest one on one to establish a new set of basic rules for him and then reinforce them on a daily basis until they were consistently understood and followed. It’s like Rob poured the foundation and built the first story for me, and then taught me how to maintain the structure and build on top of it. That was exactly what I needed. Of course the training was not over when I picked up Forest from Lodge & Learn, there was and will continue to be work to be done on my part to sustain this good behavior. But with that foundation already solidly in place, that maintenance has been easy to manage.Rob’s training was truly life changing for us and I am SO glad we did it.

We were initially hesitant to consider formal dog training, because our dog wasnt terrible. He didnt bark much, he was (mostly) house trained, and, in general, well behaved. But he wasnt great in public spaces, pulled on the leash, and had no recall ability off-leash. So when we needed to board him for a few weeks, we decided to give Robs team a shot at helping us out. And boy are we happy we did!Its amazing how far our dog was able to improve. Off-leash ability, heel, and stay in place commands have become invaluable to our family. But beyond the specific commands he now knows (which have shown no signs of fatiguing 3 months removed from training), our dog is simply more attentive to our voice and body language than ever before. The overall improvement in communication has made both our lives and our dogs life so much more fun together! Finally, I have to say that Rob & his team are absolute professionals. Rob was flexible with tailoring his program to our needs, came to our house for training sessions and picking up/dropping off our dog, and kept us updated throughout the process. I will continue recommending Robs crew for my family and friends looking for top notch dog training experience and outcomes.

We’ve owned dogs in the past, and never had any significant issues until we got a Sheepadoodle puppy, Murphy, about 5 months ago. Although we had read great things about the breed, Murphy was an extremely challenging puppy. We’re used to puppies getting into things, but Murphy did this non-stop. He would also bark incessantly if he was in his kennel, so we had to keep him on a leash next to us at all times. He also had very strong guarding behavior, and would also regularly jump and bite at us and our kids. After trying to train Murphy on our own, we received a recommendation to a popular local trainer whose approach was positive reinforcement using treats. Although that method works with some dogs, it did very little to change Murphy’s behavior. After several expensive lessons and carrying treats around constantly for over a month, we decided we needed to try a different approach. We contacted several other well-known trainers in the area, but they also only used the treat method.Although we saw Rob was clearly one of the highest rated trainers across multiple sites (Yelp, Google, etc.), we hesitated at first. We weren’t sure if we would be comfortable using a prong collar and e-collar, and Rob’s training also required a decent financial commitment upfront. Rob spent over an hour over the phone two separate times to talk through our concerns. I was really surprised he was willing to take that much time without us committing, and even offered for us to walk away if we weren’t satisfied after the first session. Needless to say, we were quickly impressed by Rob’s approach and knowledge. By the second session, he had Murphy walking calmly next to us instead of constantly pulling on walks. By the third session, Murphy had learned to stay on his bed calmly as long as we needed him to.Rob has a very clear system to how he approaches different behavioral challenges, and he consistently delivered on the changes he said we could expect to see. He was very receptive to listening to our concerns, and the use of the prong or e-collar was always appropriate. We would highly recommend Rob, even if your dog doesn’t have significant behavioral issues. I wish our prior dogs had listened to us as well as Murphy does now!

** I WOULD GIVE ROB MORE THAN FIVE STARS IF I COULD!Our dog, Porter, has always been a sensitive dog, but things went really down hill after he was attacked at the dog park and then attacked by a dog in our apartment building within a two week period. He also had a time when he was only 2 months old that a skateboarder got really close to him on the sidewalk and freaked him out. After the dog attacked him in our building, he started becoming super reactive to other dogs on leash, skateboarders/bikes, and people on the street (mostly males). It became anxiety provoking to take him on any walks because he would literally freak out anytime we would see any of these things (we live in Portland, so its busy always). We tried a trainer who does only positive reinforcement which helped a little bit, but it didnt solve the problem and he continued to be reactive. It should be noted that Porter is also a very, very sweet dog who loves to cuddle and give his owners and friends kisses. He usually would get along with dogs at parks (unless a ball was taken from him) and my friends have dogs that he plays with all the time so it was mainly when he would see dogs on leash that he was unfamiliar with.In October, my husband was taking him outside and he bit another dog on the nose in our building after the dog entered the elevator due to being reactive. We were at a loss of what to do for him and I searched the best trainers in Portland for reactivity and found Rob. Rob did a free consult with us at our apartment building where he met Porter. We did three sessions with him. One was to learn how to use the prong collar on a walk, the second was to teach him place, and the third was to teach him down and stay. We noticed changes in our dogs behavior IMMEDIATELY after implementing these techniques. During his first session, Rob actually got our dog to sit a few feet away from a dog that he was being reactive too without anyone holding the leash! The third session, a dog that Porter is normally very reactive towards walked by when he was in down and he did not move. I was a little wary about using a prong collar at first, but it has helped me dog TREMENDOUSLY. He does not love the collar, of course, but it has helped decrease his overall anxiety when on walks and he rarely freaks out anymore. He is not perfect and still becomes reactive occasionally, but we feel like we finally have control over him and can help calm him down when he does get reactive. I now enjoy going on walks with my dog again thanks to Rob.Thank you for everything, Rob!! You really have made our dog so much better!! I would highly recommend him to anyone especially people who have dogs with reactivity problems on leash!!

Highly recommend - we had a great experience with Rob and our large-breed puppy in his 6-lesson off-leash package. Going into the training our dog had gone through basic puppy classes and was what Id call decent at walking on-leash but we had no confidence in recall/off-leash scenarios. After the first lesson with Rob, leash walking was completely different with no more pulling. At the end of our 6 lessons, we were completely confident in off-leash scenarios with our dog and we have been in the 6+ months since. This process was a complete game-changer for us and we highly recommend the training for others!

After getting my dog Ole back from a board and train - I cannot recommend “Dogs listen to me” enough. I adopted a wonderful dog from a shelter, who unfortunately had some bad habits. After a few weeks with him I was feeling overwhelmed- he was barking and lunging at other dogs on the street - to the point I’d have to be constantly on the lookout. He failed two daycare evaluations, and I was told by another trainer that he may be untrainable. Taking him to the dog park was also impossible due him playing too aggressively not responding to his name.Feeling discouraged, I did some research on trainers in the area. After comparing a long (and confusing) list of various trainers – I found “Dogs listen to me”. The reviews seemed fantastic- and the offer of a free initial eval (compared to the ~$60 charged by other services) lead me to giving Rob a call.Rob’s methods are different from many others in the area as he doesn’t use just “reward based training”. I was initially apprehensive about his methods – but after meeting with him I was confident that he really knew what he was doing. His methods truly work – and last.I opted for the board & train due to my own time constraints, and my desire to get the best training possible. Rob and I worked out a schedule, and he would bring Ole home for training once a week. At each visit – the improvements were phenomenal. At the end, Rob even kept Ole abit longer, at no extra cost – to sharpen up the training to a point of perfection. Now when I take Ole out on walks I get comments about how well trained he is. I can take him to the dog park without a worry. He can interact with other dogs with ease. He continues to be the happy pup I initially adopted– but he is also much calmer (which is immensely helpful). I couldn’t be happier.I highly recommend any of the training through “Dogs listen to me” – but can especially speak to the board & train. While it is a high cost and time commitment – it’s absolutely worth it in the long run.

My girlfriend and I called on Rob to help us with our puppy Pug. We have a pug who was very stubborn and thought there was one way of doing things and that was his way. Rob was fast to rescue and taught us the tools we needed to correct the stubborn behavior and prepare us for whatever might happen next.We were seeking a trainer to help train our puppy but also get us in the correct mindset to train a puppy. Rob was perfect for this, he would walk us through the reasoning and logic of why something works this way and why another concept might not be the best strategy for something else. The prong collar was incredibly effective and efficient despite what some people think of them. Our Pug does not pull or misbehave when previously he would have been a wild banshee. There are no more walking protests and we now have the only Pug that I have seen heel.....Overall we were very satisfied with the training because Rob provided the tools we needed to continue to train our puppy as he grows. Rob was great with our puppy and it was pretty impressive how fast our dog responded to him. Within three sessions of leash training our Pug was trained and within five sessions Rob had my girlfriend and myself trained. Highly recommend Rob as Dogs truly do listen to him.

We recently used Rob for a board and train for our 18mo labradoodle. Our puppy has gone through numerous board and trains, and puppy classes since we brought him home at 3mo. While he has always been lovable, friendly, and VERY treat-oriented, we found that even in spite of all the training, we could not control his excitement when we had visitors or when we were out walking. After some deliberation and then some rave reviews by colleagues, we decided to use Rob. Since his training, our puppy has been wonderful! While he is still the same puppy (and that was one of my concerns), he listens to our commands (and not only when HE wants to, which is what we had been struggling with), he has much more self control, and I can even let my 7yo daughter walk him without worrying about him pulling. Now, he has much more freedom around the house and outdoors with his new training, and we are all happier as well. We could not have been happier with our decision to send him to Rob.

Robs training techniques give amazing results! He helped our new, young-ish dog Ollie learn on and off leash training, and his tips for success are easy to understand and implement long after the sessions are over. We especially appreciated how Rob took the time to explain how a dogs perception and reasoning dictates why they behave as they do, which helped the logic of the training stick. We often receive complements on Ollies good behavior--which is especially important, since where we live, you cant walk five feet without running into another dog. Thank you so much Rob!

A puppy unexpectedly found her way into our lives which suddenly put us in the position of pack leaders without much experience. Our family is so fortunate to have found Dogs Listen To Me, and worked with their trainers (Hillary, David, Rob) in a group class series. We received a wealth of beneficial guidance from these knowledgeable and experienced individuals. Hillary as our primary trainer was exceptional. She was always patient as we worked through our own limitations, and she offered insightful advice based upon keen observations of our skill level. Hillary is a balanced and natural leader in her relationship with dogs. Regardless of a vast range of divergent human opinions, Hillary is able to maintain a holistic approach directed at a dogs education and lifelong wellbeing. She is able to remain calm, assertive, compassionate and achieve results across varied conditions. Through all the challenges that come with learning anything new, our puppy concluded each class more focused, confident, fulfilled and talented! Each session reinforced overall obedience, and helped translate to a positive direction in our lives far beyond the classroom. We are so grateful for all the extra support and time Hillary extended. This extra guidance and attentiveness has made a profound impact. Dogs Listen To Me and Hillary have made such a positive contribution to our lives, and the continued happiness of our quickly growing puppy!

Rob for the win. Dogs Listen To Me is really a top flight service under cover of a beat up truck and a Midwesterner in a Redsox cap. Rob jumped right in taking charge and setting us straight. I say us because it’s really about getting trained to properly own your dog rather than him training your dog. You can opt for that service, full training without effort, but learning how to properly train your own dog (under his guidance) is priceless. Even though I paid for every lesson, I still felt (feel) guilty for not working harder between lessons. He really makes you want to be responsible for your pup and achieve results.

Since he left and weve stuck to his advice, Ive seen the problem disappearing quickly and my dog becoming all around more obedient.

We have a 9-month-old pug named Donut who is as stubborn as he is cute, and hes pretty damn cute. He refused to go down stairs, pulled on the leash, jumped on people, and generally ignored all of our attempts at basic obedience training. We sought out a trainer who could help us with these things, especially the stairs as hauling a 15-pound pug loaf who sheds down the steps gets old really fast. Rob was our guy and worth every penny. All it took was a prong collar and some leash pressure and Donut was going down steps like a PRO in the first 5 minutes with Rob. Throughout our 5 training sessions, Donut became an excellent walker who no longer pulls, he heals, and listens to down, sit, place, and no. These basic commands are so useful for being in control of your pup around other dogs and people, whenever the doorbell rings, or guests are in your home.Trust in Robs training methods, do the homework with your pup, and youll be happy with the results.

Rob helped with some of Tuckers worst habbits. Rob was clear , conscience and to the point. He was knowledgeable on the methods we used and now we have a brand new dog that is our old dog but now acts like a different dog ... Anyway Rob is your guy he layers the classes so they blend well from first class to the last class. Thanks again Rob you are the man

I highly recommend Rob Masters. I have a little Podengo, Tucker, and he only listened when he wanted to and that was frustrating as well as worried me about his safety. Rob taught us how to use an e-collar and it was just the tool we needed to help communicate with Tucker. I never thought I would have a dog that would happily walk right next to me off leash, but after three sessions, Tucker did just that. Rob did what I thought was impossible and I am grateful.

Rob taught us how to lead our dogs toward success. Before training we could not have guests without excessive barking and nipping and walks involved the dogs pulling on their leashes to the point of choking. Robs methods took our dogs from little terrors to wonderful companions. It really changed our lives and I am so glad we did it. Our friends and family cannot believe how much they have changed. It was one of the best decisions we have made!

Having a great time training my dog with Dogs Listen to Me/Rob Masters. Its really fun to see the dog learn, amazed at Robs knowledge of dog behavior and how to channel it to get the behavior you want. Considering how aggressive my dog was toward other dogs, I never would have guessed she could behave so well. Ive learned much from Rob about dogs also, what to expect, whats normal by instinct and understanding why a dogs behavior is what it is. Basically, dogs do what comes naturally, its the owner who need to be responsible and train and direct the dogs energy. Our dog has changed from challenging, unruly and bossy to a well balanced, well-behaved dog who is so much more fun to have in the home now. Would definitely recommend Dogs Listen to Me/Rob Masters if you are considering training. He comes to your home, which I think is important. I consider his training a great value for the results and education weve received.

Rob was AWESOME! My dog was extremely dog reactive, to the point where he would snarl and lunge at dogs on the leash that were across the street. It was stressful to go on walks and try to be on the constant lookout for even the hint of a dog. The final straw was a beach trip where my dog got into 2 dog fights. I searched online for a dog trainer and I knew a group session would not be a good fit for my dog. What initially drew me to Rob was the fact that he offers a free consultation. I had tried a dog trainer in the past and it didn’t work well so I wanted a chance to meet and talk with someone before committing money to working with someone. He came to my house met Leroy and listened to me when I was listing out the issues I have encountered and then talked about his training methods. I would say what sold me was his honest answers. He didn’t pitch me and tell me I can make your dog a SUPER dog. He told me straightforwardly that he can’t make my dog like dogs, but he can make it so he doesn’t react. I prefer honest expectations then being oversold just so I will buy into something. As we started working together it became apparent that he knew what he was talking about. On the first session Rob had Leroy not pulling on the leash! It was amazing to see the changes that came each week and the biggest change was I was searching out dogs in my neighborhood. I wanted to face the issues and handle them to help Leroy work through them. Rob built up my confidence, because he taught me how to handle the stressful situations. Something to keep in mind if you are considering a dog trainer: be willing to put in the work. Rob teaches you the tools needed, but YOU need to be the one to put in the time and be consistent with your dog. It isn’t easy to rebuild habits you have established with your dog, but it is worth the work in the end.

My fiancé and I recently acquired a second rescue dog. Our two dogs did not get along their first encounter resulted in a bloody fight. Rob came to the rescue! We started our leash training with Rob. Within three meetings with Rob and consistent practice, about 45 minutes per day, we had two dogs who now get along no fighting they walk on their leashes without pulling and we can bring them in public and enjoy ourselves without worrying what may happen. Rob is efficient great at what he does and most importantly honest. We would highly recommend Rob to anyone looking to train their dogs to be able to enjoy any situation with any crowd. Thanks Rob

We loved working with Rob! We started working with Rob when our pup was 7 months old. We have a giant breed/large breed dog that was already coming into the training with no aggression problems or anxiety issues. Our objective was to remove worry when it came to getting our dog to come on command - the first time we ask! Our dog not only heels on command, but from a distance, every time, and is the best dog he can be.Working with Rob is like buying insurance for yourself and your dog. When there are moments urgency when we’ve really needed our dog to pay attention and listen (cars, kids, elderly), our dog does and we thank Rob for giving us the process and system to put in place. It was a game changer for us! And not to forget, Rob is a great guy!

Tucker was 7 months old when he was introduced to Rob. We had not done any training previous to Dogs listen to me and I was not sure what to expect, all I knew was that we needed help.Rob assessed, identified clear objectives, and delivered. Always punctual, and responsive to questions with spot on answers; and felt like having an old friend stop to lend a hand. He also went above and beyond with phone calls and texts during the week when I had a question in regards to what we were working on.Tucker was a very hyper dog that could not chill. Rob listened, watched and gave Tucker and I the knowledge and practice we needed. Tucker has officially graduated and now knows commands, he listens to me, I am no longer nervous when we have people coming over, it is so nice to have our dog as part of the family - we can go on walks and just relax together.Rob delivered success!I was a “no-way” e-collar client, but I would say now_ just stay open. When I first decided to do the training I was still unsure if we would do the second session which included the e-collar, I am so glad we did!

THE best training I have found for my dog. She had the usual symptoms of being an unruly dog that was uninterested in treats or positive reinforcement to get her to behave. The first trainer I used was completely ineffective and by the time I found Rob, my dog was 2 years old and a whacko. Within the first few training sessions she was following commands and eager to learn. Rob took the time to explain to me how I needed to change my habits, as well, which made all the difference; going so far as to elaborate on why I needed to do certain things and why/how she would respond. I can not recommend him highly enough. I can now walk my dog without a leash!!!

Rob took our pit bull puppy and turned her into the most well behaved dog on the block! Before we worked with Rob, it was stressful taking Nama most places. She was territorial, skittish, and aggressive. We saw what a sweet girl she could be at home, but for some reason couldnt get that to translate out in the world. In just 7 weeks Rob took Nama and turned her into a dog we can take ANYWHERE. She has never been so well behaved, and is extremely responsive to the training. We cant thank you enough Rob!!

I cant say enough good things about Rob and his training methods. Our 3 year old keeshond, Bodhi was a terror - he literally ran the household. From ruining our front door with his jumping to barking incessantly, he was exhausting. The last straw was when he snapped at me when I was grooming him. It became obvious that the reward method of training was not going to work with him. Enter Rob and his board and train program. Within a week Bodhi was responding to commands and listening and obeying. We just got him back today and I can safely say hes a completely different dog from the one we sent off a month ago. In addition to the changes he brought about in Bodhi, Rob was very responsive to owner questions and was so patient when he was teaching us how to work with Bodhi. I appreciated that we met once a week for training so we were well versed in what to do when Bodhi came home. Rob has been great through the whole training process and I highly recommend him!

Absolutely the best investment we could have made for our dog.We adopted a 2 year old pit mix and spent 6 weeks going to basics classes at the humane society. We learned to sit and thats about it. Walks were tough, to say the least, with our pup lunging at everything--including concrete statues. After one lesson, the lunging was gone. After a few more lessons, we got to the point where we can walk off leash in our neighborhood without any worry. We can recall our dog from a full sprint from across the dog park. If you havent taken lessons from Rob, you dont understand how great it is to have a well trained dog.

We have 3 dogs, all rescues that were under 18 months old, and they each have different problems. One is stubborn, one was showing aggression towards people and one behaved similar to a feral and feared everything.I contacted Dogs Listen to Me and Rob designed a program to make me a better pack leader. My dogs are a work in progress as we are still working with Rob but with the tools and knowledge that we have been given, people have noticed a difference in their behavior. Our stubborn dog is responding quicker to commands and has learned who is in charge. Our fear aggressive dog has become the best walker and remains focused on me, not his surroundings. Our feral dog now prances like a doe, holds her head high and her tail is no longer tucked between her legs when she leaves the house. There is more structure and order. We still have a way to go and more time to work on them but we are very pleased with their progress and we look forward to the end result-3 well behaved, well mannered dogs and less chaos in the house.

If you have a dog you should train them with a professional like Rob. Reaching out to Rob has been one of the best decisions we have ever made. Our newly adopted dog was leash aggressive and a lunger. It was getting to the point where I dreaded taking her on walks because it was getting so difficult to calm her down and I was worried about her hurting my arm. After just one session with Rob she was walking right next to me and her lunging was no longer a concern. Life changing. We continued our lessons and now our pup can walk off leash, be around other dogs, and recall from across the park or wherever!Rob is also really easily to work with—very responsive and flexible.

Rob trained our dog Chosey through his board and train program. He is a miracle worker. I cannot speaking positively enough about the transformation in Chosey’s behavior and equally importantly how Rob shared very clear methods and practices we could use on or own to continue his training and ensurer his behavior stays on track. One other thing that is great about Rob is that he is willing to come meet you and can be very accommodating of your schedule which is a huge benefit if you work full time.We also board both of our dogs (Chosey and Willie) with Rob when we go out of town. In the past, we would get nervous about our dogs staying in a kennel or with a stranger, but now we have total peace of mind when they stay with Rob.He is a true professional and if you are in the Portland area, I 100% suggest choosing Rob.

Rob is absolutely amazing! My KD (1.5 y.o German Shepard) was abandon and scared. My step dad found Rob and he started the training shortly after meeting her. Under very special cirumstances he was able to bring KD down to San Diego where shell live with me. She is soo well behaved and trained. She was obedient and receptive to the training. He spent some time with us showing me how to continue the training and she listened to me very quickly. Ive never had a dog both run andwalk as good both on and off leash. In addition, sit, place, and down are the most incredible commands. The teaching never stops but I cant image where KD would be without Rob. Thanks again, Rob! Youre the best!

Im pretty darn glad I signed up with Rob at Dogs Listen To Me. Unlike the other few businesses I contacted, Rob responded promptly to my inquiry and offered a free consultation-- this sealed the deal. In that meeting, Rob shared his training ideology and was able to analyze which nuts and bolts were missing from my command over Wiley-- my young cattle-dog mix.Wiley, already (relatively) well-trained, was starting to become fetch-possessive with other dogs. Not anymore! Working with Rob solidified my command-response, strengthened my recall, and set me up to continue Wileys training on my own, for years to come. In fact, as soon as training started, all sorts of good behavior simply started falling into place-- Wiley stopped barking at the door, even when my roommates dog would go nutso. I think this speaks to Robs understanding of dog *and human* psychology. He really knows the ins and outs of how dogs and owners communicate with each other. Thanks to Dogs Listen To Me, Wiley primarily responds to ME before his environment, and his super sweet and playful personality is still intact.Robs pricing is fair. He offers a 20% student discount. After the 4th session, Wiley had already learned all of the foundational training (including the off leash turn-and-heel) and Rob was willing to refund my 5th lesson. Every dog is different, and Rob accommodates accordingly. He also respected my own training preferences-- using my preferred command words instead of his usual prescribed words (place versus go to your room, etc). If you opt out of using e-collar or prong collar devices, Rob can definitely work with that.I would definitely recommend going the E-collar route, but be warned that this is a separate cost on top of training. Rob gets a professional quality collar, with some small add-ons that are specifically intended for your dogs comfort. This is GOOD. You could certainly get yourself a cheaper model, but why would you want to skimp on this part? Its an incredibly effective tool, which should only ever be used properly. Essentially, Robs sessions were actually training ME how to use it correctly, as well as how to issue commands without it. Most importantly, the first few weeks are spent training your dog without the E-collar, establishing your dogs rules and teaching you, The Owner, how to properly communicate and give commands. Rob stresses how important it is to be fair to your dog. And once your dog figures out the DOs and DONTS, youll find that you hardly have to use it.Im not the first to say this... but it all comes down to bad owners, not bad dogs. The success of Robs training is proof. I would recommend Dogs Listen To Me to any dog owner, for all levels of domestic behavioral issues. Check em out.

What can I say about Dogs Listen to Me and our trainer, Rob Masters...our dog Pete sure does listen to Rob and now us too! The change we have seen in our dog is incredible. We signed up for 10 private lessons and completed in 9 for basic off-leash training! He went from being a fearful-maniac on a walk, to a confident dog, who can ignore distractions and is a delight to walk. Petes improvement has not only improved our lives, but his as well. The techniques brought results and when we had any issues, Rob was able to coach us to success. Dog training is equal parts human training - I feel that after working with DLTM, we now have the skill set to maintain Petes new behavior and to skillfully face any new challenges with him. We have had an amazing experience with Rob at Dogs Listen to Me. Our 2 year old dog, Sammy, was having progressive problems with leash aggression and growling/barking at new people coming into our house and we needed some major help. The first lesson focused on the leash aggression and how to walk properly. I couldn’t believe it but after that one lesson Sammy was already 90% better on a leash. At the end of the session I was able to walk Sammy right past another dog with zero reaction. After 2 years of struggling to take Sammy for walks he was a different dog in less than an hour! The second and third lessons focused on on new commands and was truly shocked to see how Sammy now responds and actually listens to us - the stress of taking him for a walk and having new people come into our house is totally gone! The tips and tactics that Rob has shown us are so easy to implement on our own, and I couldn’t be happier with the dog Sammy is becoming. If you’re having any issues with your dog, Rob is your guy!

We first used Robert with Dogs Listen to Me for private lessons. Nucky, our 2-year old Goldendoodle, needed some refresher courses in basic commands. I also learned that being dragged down the street by a 10 pound puppy is much different than being dragged by an 80 pound dog. By the time our lessons were complete Nucky had conquered all of his commands and walked like a Show Dog! It is such a pleasure to walk with him in general but icing on the cake when we receive compliments from all our neighbors about his behavior. Like many others I was hesitant about the prong collar in the beginning. I listenedand understood the logic but wanted to see the impact on Nucky. When he hears the metal clink of the collar, he is like a freight train coming for his leash! Robert is a very patient and confident teacher. I especially liked that he explained many of Nuckys behaviors. You can tell right away his love for dogs and that dogs love him.The second time we contacted Robert was for Lodge and Learn. Nucky had been a high anxiety dog since we got him. We were not looking forward to being separated fromhim but very hopeful that Robert could help alleviate some of his separation anxiety, digestive, and chewing issues. We were very impressed with the updates, Roberteven sent pictures and posted on Facebook about Nuckys progress. We also had training sessions with his E-Collar. Amazingly, Nucky came back to us much calmer andhe no longer had separation anxiety that resulted in digestive issues. He now only chews on appropriate toys as well. As a bonus he can walk off leash! I really feel likeNucky is a much happier and more confident dog now. I also feel like we are more happy and confident dog owners. I wholeheartedly recommend Robert and Dogs Listen to Me!

When Nadia joined our family 6 years ago we went through dog training and she did well. She learned commands and did great through training (with the excepting of staying put; we never mastered that one). She played well with other dogs at first but over the years began to have some aggression issues; however, never hurt another dog. Unfortunately, recently our painter accidentally left our backyard gate open and she got loose; my daughter and I realized quickly and ran after her. She had found another dog being walked and at first was playing with the dog but as we ran to her she began fighting with the dog. I cant describe how scary it was. The other dog was injured in 3 areas. We cared for getting the hurt dog to the vet, vet bills and were very grateful the dogs injuries werent worse. The other family was gracious and let us visit their dog when he was healing and doing well. We love Nadia dearly and wanted to do whatever we needed to do to keep Nadia and other dogs safe but didnt know what to do. We were referred to Rob Masters with Dogs Listen to Me by our Vet, Dr. Guglielmino, at Dearborn Animal Clinic, who we have a very long history with and trust. In speaking with Rob I immediately felt relief and that he could help us. We sent Nadia to his Lodge & Learn program and she was with him over a month. We spent time with her during weekly visits when Rob would bring her home for training with our family. Sometimes he brought his dog Jarvis, who also did a fabulous job of training Nadia. We found Rob to be patient, consistent and committed to helping us. The outcome has been more than we ever dreamed it would be. Rob relieved Nadia of aggression issues with other dogs and trained our family to reinforce to Nadia shes safe with us and doesnt have to make decisions to keep us safe. Furthermore, he trained Nadia on a plethora of other behaviors that we didnt even think were possible. We were told with her being a husky, due to her nature to a sled dog, she would always pull when walked. Not so, she now walks in heal with no pulling (its amazing). Although she didnt jump on people; she would get crazy excited when visitors arrived; she now lays in her place until we free her and her excitement level has lowered. She stays in sit or down for as long as wed like her to until we free her. We also learned better feeding habits for our family to practice with her. I could go on and on. The time that Rob spent training her was more than we ever could have. Although we missed her terribly during her month away, I always loved that when she left our home with Rob she was happy and wagging her tail; she clearly was happy being in his care and trusted him. Rob visited us yesterday for a follow up session with Jarvis, and we had our friends dog come over. They all 3 did great and we learned even more from Rob. I cant speak highly enough of Rob and his team at Dogs Listen to Me. Robs training with Nadia has changed our familys life.
