The staff aren’t exactly polite, I’ve bever been greeted at this place nor said bye too as leaving which isn’t a major deal but still weird their staff can’t say hi or welcome or bye. They also have some kind of kids camp but rather than have employees watch the kids they allow the kids to run around unsupervised throughout the day. They scream and run all over the gym while the employees sit up front not greeting paying guests. Not exactly sure what the employees actually do.Weird place.. I like the routes though. Just hard to climb around the unsupervised kids running under you.

When I first moved to Durango I was looking for ways to meet people. The Rock Lounge was having an adult Conditioning class and I joined on a whim - I am SO glad I did! It is a small gym at the moment, but the staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. There are classes for adults and kids, morning workouts to help you build strength, and outdoor clinics to help you take your skills further. Routes are changing with enough frequency to keep things interesting. Marcus Garcia does an excellent job of working with you no matter your age or ability. The Rock Lounge is a lot more than just a gym - its an awesome community within Durango that you should definitely be part of!

Its been a great place to work out my frustrations of being unemployed in Durango! I only climb V2-V3 outside so theres plenty of routes for me to work on and work up to. I dig it.

While Ill throw them a couple stars for being the only gym in town, its exactly that. The gym feels like someones garage training cave, low awkwardly designed walls, dated holds, and setting that feels like the middle school climbing team put up the routes. Compared to other gyms on the western slope like Grand Valley Climbing in GJ or Monkeyhouse in Carbondale, it just feels unprofessional. Id imagine a town like Durango could easily support a much nicer space, and based on my conversations in town, many people would throw down for a membership if the product were a bit better. Hope they step it up, Id happily get a membership

I have visited the rock lounge years ago, and I was very disappointed with my last visit. Most of the walls lacked interesting routes and problems, it was very confusing with the boulder problems in particular. There is just so much going on its hard to work something without scraping a knee or elbow, or in my case, my face. I assume that the route setters want to jam as much boulder problems in the gym knowing that the rock lounge is a small gym. Although I argue that it may be more effective if they focused on the quality of the problems rather than quantity. With the amount of unfinshed/refined problems, I just felt so cluttered climbing in the room on the main floor. ;(

We recently visited Durango as tourists escaping the Texas heat. As newbie rock climbers / boulderers, my family stopped in at The Rock Lounge to learn more about climbing. What an awesome experience!! They have great walls to climb and contrary to the strip-mall architecture of the building, they boast several walls that look to be 30 plus! Automatic beleys are available for novice climbers, which is wonderful because you can climb quite high as a beginner without having to manage ropes and youre totally safe. My 3.5-year-old son enjoyed climbing repeatedly to about 6 and then jumping from the wall to have the beley slowly lower him to safety. All gear is available for rental at reasonable prices. Staff is very friendly and experienced. They also offer guided tours of regional climbing features. While in Durango for a week, we stopped in at the Rock Lounge twice. It was one of the stand-out experiences of our trip.
