Raquel is a nice person but working with her and this office is horrible. They sent over the wrong dosage of a medication and when I told the pharmacy that and they requested it from the office I then get a letter in the mail, not even a phone call telling me they are going to refer me, to a specialist for standard non narcotic medications I’ve had my pcp write for years. Raquel called me “ big boned” and said that’s just how I am and said I should go to a nutritionist to talk about weight. She will not write weight loss meds for you and when I asked her if there was a doctor she recommended to talk about weight loss she said no. Add this to her being an hour behind at my appointment and I’m just flat out frustrated with the experience. On another occasion my husband took my 4 year old in for a well check and they wouldn’t let him be seen because he had my 2 year old with us as well and because of covid they couldn’t. Covid has been going on for over a year and people are vaccinated and not everyone has options to have someone else watch their other kids for doctors appointments and If you are going to mandate that we can’t bring our other child then please tell me this on the phone when making my appointment. We live 40 min from their office so this was the final straw for us.

They are always friendly and very professional. Raquel and her staff are honestly the BEST!!! They definitely make you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. Always smiling! Excellent communication and once they have an idea of what your needs are they make you feel safe enough to know your needs will be met!

The worst experience I’ve ever had.Had to be seen for a referral to another doctors office-I’ve lived here a little over a year, I’ve been prescribed medication for my ADHD for the past 6 or so years. Went in for my first appointment and waited an hour in the waiting room, just to be seen for one minute and the first words out of the P.A’s mouth is “ADHD is misdiagnosed all the time for bipolar disorder.”Followed by questions on my previous doctors authority to prescribe such medication if he’s not a specialist.I placed a complaint the next day with the nurse and the issue was not resolved.I received my referral two weeks later in the mail and it has be seen for “bi polar/ ADHD” written on it after I filed my complaint. ?!If my actual doctor “doesn’t have authority” to diagnose ADHD- Can this ghetto business please explain how your joke of a P.A has the authority, let alone education to make these baseless claims based off of a brief, one minute conversation? What an embarrassment to the medical board.I will be following up my complaint with the doctors other office, its clear the actual doctor is never at the DHS location.Save yourself the trouble and be seen elsewhere. This place is extremely dirty, and unprofessional.

Im a 71 year old essential worker delivering food during the pandemic and I dont have a lot of time at home. I need medication for my claudication and high blood pressure: Cilostazol and Lisinopril. But they couldnt make me a phone appointment because I havent seen this doctor in 7 years. Understandable. So I waited until the appointment today with Dr. Kyaw. I showed up early but they had me wait 40 minutes in the waiting room. Then I saw Raquel but I didnt even get to see Richard Kyaw, who I made the appointment to see. Raquel ordered my lisinopril but didnt respond when I mentioned the claudication. They set me up for my annual physical at the end of the year. Then when I called in to make the earliest phone appointment they could give me, they said to wait for the annual check up in DECEMBER 2021 and told me I couldnt make any more appointments. Then they hung up on me and went to lunch at 11:55 when its supposed to be 12:30 to 2. They hung up on me before I could ask to maybe cancel that appointment and get something sooner than 9 months away. I need my medication now not in 9 months. I will have to change doctors because this was a horrible experience and the receptionist did not want to help me. Terrible receptionist.

At first when I started to go to this doctor I was like okay its easy and close to home. There came a couple of times that I would have to go back for test or some results and wait in the waiting room for about 30-45 min, and then an additional 10-15 min before I was seen. One appointment ran way too long to get in and when I was sitting in the room for the nurse practitioner to come in I had to get up and tell the girls at the desk that I could not wait anymore to be seen I had to go pick up my child at school. I had already been waiting 1hr and 30 min. This doctor was okay for location, but not on wait times. I understand that they are busy, but sometimes they take too many people at a time and then have long waits.

I would advise new patients considering selecting this practice for their primary care to look elsewhere. I have been with Dr. Richard Kyaw for over a year and a half and never actually meet the doctor. His wife, a physicians assistant, Raquel Medeiros, appears to actually run the practice and is the only doctor you will actually see. Note that all the comments here on Google Maps refer to Raquel and none mention seeing Dr. Richard Kyaw. I have had specialist I have seen refer to him as the mystery man. For the first year I was fine seeing Raquel. She is nice enough and generally answered my question though I always felt rushed. They sent me for referrals to several specialists to check up on several issues I was having and were good about filling needed prescriptions. That is until I developed a problem that need more immediate and ongoing attention. Now I have to fight to get appointments. Today I went in for test results and even Raquel would not see me to give me results and answer questions, only a nurse would speak with me. I have had to go through my insurance (IEHP) to force them to respond and give me an appointment. My impression is that now that I am a more complex (troublesome) patient that needs more attention than just a quick visit every 6 months, they dont want to service me any longer. It is probably because I am a MediCal patient and it is not cost effective for them to see me. It is very frustrating. Let me also caution you about positive reviews left here. During a office visit 6 months ago, before Raquel saw me, a nurse came in the room with a computer tablet and asked me to post a positive review online for them. I thought that very odd and felt I was being pressured to doing something that should be my choice to do on my own time. Against my better judgment I did as they asked, given my experience until than had been mostly positive. I really regret it now. So beware that some of the positive reviews may have similarly been un-professionally coerced in-office. One last thing, their phlebotomist are terrible! I would suggest that you have any blood work done at the LabCorp at Desert Aids Project in Palms Springs were the phlebotomist are well trained and professional. At Dr. Kyaw office several staff will come in and screw up and stick you in both arms until they final find a vein.

My parents were being treated by a doctor in Palm Springs that almost killed both of them by ignoring conditions and not doing referrals. They found Raquel and got the best service ever plus it is close to home. My dad was recently hospitalized where the doctor and the nurses all raved about Dr. Kyaw and Raquel. Highly recommend this office.

After having no insurance for almost a year, I was very excited to be getting my physical and starting treatment again with this new doctor. I have been out some of the medications that I need for a while and was looking so forward to beginning to feel better again. On appointment day, I was called back to an open desk area by a medical assistant to complete paperwork and to answer questions BEFORE triage or seeing the doctor. As I was filling out papers, I came to a disclosure that asked me to sign underneath a paragraph stating that Id agree not to yell, curse, break or throw things. I mentioned that Id never seen a disclosure like that, while signing it, because of course I wont behave that way, and the assistant said well this IS Desert Hot Springs and we get a lot of different types here. I was disturbed at this comment and the boldness with which it was made. To my face. My thoughts were wow, I live here and that doctor CHOSE to open a practice here and Ill assume the assistant CHOSE to work here, too.A few pages later, I happened upon a disclosure stating that the Dr. does not treat conditions or prescribe medication for sleeplessness, pain, anxiety or depression. I said that Id never seen a disclosure like that and that these are symptoms of several conditions that a G. P. ought to see frequently as well as treat! I explained that with fibromyalgia, oneof the medications I need is an antidepressant and that its a standard treatment for it, not because of depression but because of how it works on nerve pain and the brain for muscle pain. She AGAIN disparaged the community and the people of Desert Hot Springs by saying around here we dont know who might be just trying to get drugs so the doctor wont treat that type of person. Excuse me? Wow.Every doctor in every town will come across people who are addicted to something. But a good doctor knows the right questions to ask and knows how to verify a history. And a good doctor and his staff know better than to disparage the very community in which he serves.I stopped filling out the papers, as badly as I needed to see a doctor, because I was fighting back tears. I felt insulted and ashamed and let her know that I would never want to trust my health or care to a doctor with such blatant disrespect and apathy for patients because of where we live or the fact that people may have conditions with symptoms that are erroneously associated with shame. I wont defend my town because I shouldnt have to. Ill only say that there are many good people here from all walks of life will deserve to be treated if theyre sick, regardless of their income or history. A good doctor should have some background in the human condition and be able to discern and treat all types of people. If he wants to treat only a certain demographic, he should specialize in plastic surgery. They hand out pain meds and valium aplenty to the wealthiest of us.

70 percent of the stuff give you the feeling they are something better then you and they have an arrogant appearance. More then once they set me up with a future appointment for a physical exam without even asking me if i am ok with the date. They called me prior when the appointment was coming up. I declined saying im busy and i know my body very well not seing a need to come... Later on,(more then once) when i was really sick coming in, they didnt want to treat me without catching up on my missing physical exam. Ridiculous. i told them i am feeling bad and need help, not feeling well for an exam i didnt come for but they were just stubbern.- also once they sent me home on a Wednesday i think it was, because this day is an appointment day which i didnt have(didnt know that and i was coming in badly sick);they just opened and wanted me to come back later to see if they evtl. could fit me in IF approved... In that discussion i had to find out myself that i could also go straight to an group immidiate care instead of what they suggested (going home, come back and have hope to get in).UNPROFESSIONAL. - rachquel is ok btw,the doc himself i never had a chance to talk to him, also sad for never get treated by the actual doc.

Ive been to Dr. Kyaws office several times. His PA Raquel has treated me for asthma and other conditions and my experience has been consistently excellent. I cannot imagine that the earlier negative review was about the same doctors office that I go to: Dr. Richard Kyaw.PS: This is not a planted review. Im not family or friends with anyone in Dr. Kyaws office, merely a very happy client.

I DO NOT like this office due to the fact that they have not once helped me with any of my problems I go into the office and they send me home and tell me they will call me with a referral and they never call. And when I call them they say they sent it to the other doctors office so I call the other doctor and they say they never received it. It is a joke and I cant believe I have been with them for a year and have not been able to get not one referral to actually go through. All they ever say is that theyll call me!!!!!

I do not recommend this place to you, my child ended up in the hospital with asthma because here they never detected anything, they always told me that he was fine and always had a constant cough, until one day I took him to the hospital because of the cough already I could not breathe and there they detected asthma, in the clinic they did not even detect bronchitis that could have prevented me from getting asthma. Now I have to take my child to a specialist every 6 months to control his asthma and of course change his doctor.
