If I could give ZERO stars I would. I was there this morning with a sever anxiety attack and received the literal BARE MINIMUM of care. My doctor barely acknowledged me and was rude. My nurse was the same, my nurse screamed at me at the top of her lungs for something my doctor gave me permission for. I’ve never been treated so poorly. No nurse and barely mine even gave me eye contact. But they were happy standing in their circle with their coffees laughing. I will NEVER return there god forbid I had something life threatening going on.

Other than that. they were very accommodating and aimed to please. Which is what you always want in customer service.

If you are looking for a great place to waste time during a pandemic this is the hospital for you! I had a 4:50pm appointment for an MRI and arrived to sign in at 4:15. I left angry at 7:30pm after asking several really nice staff members to inquire how much longer will I need to wait and kept being told 10 more minutes in half hour increments. I really dont feel confident in having surgery at this facility. It brings me back to 2009 when I arrived to this same hospital to visit my mother who recently had a minor stroke only to be met with a drug addict handcuffed to the bed facing the door with no underwear on and seeing her entire private area because no one bothered to wrap a sheet around her lower half.

I went in with a slipped disc and wasn’t taken seriously. I did hit my deductible and almost my out of pocket max in one trip though! I had been having extreme pain and limited range of motion in my back for over a week, and as it got worse I went to several medical professionals. Urgent care said it was just a pinched nerve and threw muscle relaxers at me. They didn’t help. I went to a chiropractor who did an X-ray and gave me a compression brace. He said my lower most vertebrae was compressed and possibly herniated. As it got worse, the pain because so great that I shouted and almost lost control of my bowels almost every time I stood up or sit down, and could only stand or walk with my spine curved several degrees to the side. Considering the pain was about as bad as when I had open knee surgery and that nobody was able to provide me a treatment plan or path to recovery I went in to the ER to see if I could get something for the pain until my primary care doctor could hopefully figure out what was wrong with me and what to do.As I approached the entrance someone got a wheelchair for me because of how I was struggling to walk. When the ER doctor saw me, he seemed to think it was theatrics, and when I told him of the x-ray the chiropractor did he chucked at me and said that sounded ridiculous. Yet he also said since the chiropractor took an x ray there was no need for him to do one. He threw a muscle relaxer and an NSAID at me and refused to give me a solid answer for what to do if I get worse. He insisted it was just a muscle spasm and that if I wait around and put heat on it it would get better. The pain ended up getting worse as I waited for an appointment with my primary care doctor. The pain and impact on my mobility made it so that even though I arrived at the parking lot on time, by the time I managed to enter the building I was 15 minutes late. Thankfully my doctor sent me to physical therapy, which has been incredibly helpful and has me almost fully recovered. The stretches and exercises given to me at physical therapy are what allowed me to finally stop getting worse and actually get better. For nearly $3,000 in out of pocket costs, I got a doctor who couldn’t even figure out to send me to physical therapy and only wanted to throw the same kind of pills at me that already hadn’t been working, and refused to advise me on what to do if my condition worsened (of course it did). The chuckling and comment about the interpretation of the x ray being ridiculous really didn’t help either. I regret going here and would advise others to avoid it unless they’re in the back of an ambulance.

Never go to their emergency room. They dont treat any situation like its urgent and they dont listen to what youre saying. I went in for pregnancy related issues on Saturday, waited 6 HOURS to be seen for maybe a total of 20mins, then was discharged with instructions to follow up with my primary care in a few days, so I scheduled an appt for Tuesday. I received a phonecall Monday night insisting I get my bloodwork done right away and couldnt wait til Monday. Why was this not in my discharge paperwork for Saturday? He also claimed I may have a negative blood type and had to get some medication, when come to find out if he had just asked or looked at my records and seen I already have one child, he wouldve known I didnt need that medication. I reluctantly went and waited in line for 20 minutes before anyone even took my information. There was zero urgency even when a woman came in crying in pain. I didnt feel like the guy was listening to my whole story. Obviously he wasnt because when they finally called my name they took me back to do an ultrasound. I just had an ultrasound on Saturday and was told not to redo for another 10 days so I declined because I didnt want to pay for that and thats not why I was there and had the lady bring me back to the waiting room. I was yelled at for saying I was going to leave and see my doctor in the morning and told I would be billed for being triaged when they hadnt done ANYTHING but take my blood pressure. Would not trust them in the future. Ill be making the 40 minute drive to Danbury instead.

The care he received from every doctor, nurse, tech, housekeeper, nutrition lady and discharge planner was phenomenal. Everyone was helpful and friendly and made him feel better being so far away from home and so scared as he fought Covid. Unfortunately on route to Griffin Hospital he did not make it. Once we arrived to the er, we were quickly allowed in after scanning and escorted to a room. Where we were let easy on the news. It was so sudden and shocking. Definitely was a sensitive situation. A Nurse aided in any questions we had. And we were allowed a significant amount of time to grieve by his bedside. My 15 year old daughter was given games, as well as coffee and muffins were provided. By far the best hospital service, ambulance, police service I or my family has ever experienced. I recently had a knee replacement at Griffin Hospital. My experience from the minute I walked into the hospital until I was wheeled out to go home was great. All the staff were friendly, helpful and personable. It was such a homey environment and the main hallway resembled a museum. There was a mix up the first night I was there not allowing me to use my CPAP machine. I wasn’t able to sleep at all that night and the nurse and CNA spent time talking to me to pass the time. The next day, several staff were apologetic a lot the mix up and resolved the situation. The nurse who handled patient experience, came back to my room later with a beautiful gift to express her apologies. During the two days I was there, two chaplains came to speak to me which I found very comforting. Also four volunteers came in with baked goods that they had just made in the hospital kitchen so they were still warm. Everyone was extremely nice and welcoming to my husband who stayed with me. It is evident that this hospital has worked hard to make a hospital stay as pleasant as possible. It is a very personable and smooth experience compared to the larger hospital feeling at Yale. One example is that when i was cleared to leave, my medications were waiting for me at the pharmacy downstairs and the volunteer arrived in my room with the wheelchair before my husband had my suitcase zippered. At Yale the wait time to leave after clearance is given can be a couple of hours. Thank you to the Griffin staff and volunteers for excellent patient care!

Because of these experiences they practically just sent her home to die. I took her to Griffin and it was like an oasis of help and support. The doctors went above and beyond to look for answers and do what they could to help her and the nurses were kind and helpful. Unfortunately they said it was too late and she wouldnt last long weeks, months, but something that should have been done in the previous hospitals and wasnt dimmed her chances. I didnt know they had a hospice unit. I didnt want to face it but I had to. They helped me in every way possible and made Moms last days here better than I could have at home. We were treated us so good I felt I was the patient. I always think to write a letter to thank them for being there when no one else was. They reminded me of the way things use to be years ago when people cared more and did their jobs. They made a difference in our lives and I thank them.

I have to say I used to love this place. My wife gave birth to my son at Griffin and the whole experience was awesome! Therefore, when I fractured my right hip on February 21 in an atv accident I had no issues with going to Griffin ER. After x-rays and cat scans I was admitted and received surgery on February 22 at Griffin Hospital. Post surgery I was informed that I could not wear my insulin pump to manage my diabetes. Apparently this is hospital policy. I have had diabetes since I was 5 and have been on an insulin pump for 6 years! Instead, I was put on a sliding scale according to their endocrinologist recommendations. Needless to say, my blood sugars ran high , which does not promote optimal healing and leads to dehydration. In addition, they gave me IV fluids with sugar to hydrate me. Sugar increases blood sugar and leads to dehydration! I had to tell them to take me off the IV in order to lower my blood sugars. I asked on several occasions if the nurse could call the endocrinologist in order to approve me taking more insulin in order to lower my blood sugar. This request was followed through by one nurse and ignored by the rest. Most simply waited until the next meal in order to give me more insulin. The final straw came when I was released from the hospital and received at home physical therapy for the first two weeks of my recovery. Turns out I was not supposed to receive any physical therapy for the first 6 weeks! Therefore, someone at Griffin approved me getting physical therapy, which went against my doctors instructions. Needless to say, next time I will go to Yale.

As a veteran of many orthopedic operations I have stayed in a lot of hospitals, and Griffin Hospital in Derby is my new favorite, although I can speak only for the ease of checking in and my entirely positive experience as an orthopedic patient. It’s pretty small, but well-equipped, and patients don’t get lost in the shuffle. The nurses are wonderfully friendly and professional, as are the doctors and physicians assistants, physical therapists, and other staff. The food is remarkably good, including very tasty brick-oven pizza (crust a little thick, but the pepperoni, mushroom, and onion topping with cheese and tomato sauce was outstanding). At no point during my stay in the hospital did I feel neglected, something I dont think I can say about any other hospital that I have stayed in. I had a hip revision performed by Dr. Philip Minotti, who is an excellent surgeon, not only in my opinion but in that of many others with whom I have spoken. Dr. Minotti replaced my knee seven years ago, and it has been trouble free ever since. He uses an anterior approach to hip surgery that avoid cutting muscle and gets the patient out of the hospital and healing much faster than the old approach, and he has created his own ideal workspace and caring and professional team at the hospital. Although Griffin Hospital probably isn’t the place you want to go for something like major heart surgery, if you need a hip or a knee replaced by a friendly, thorough, first-rate surgeon in a great environment, I highly recommend it.

I went as my surgeon told me to due to having stage 4 endometriosis Ive been out of work over a week the dr did no testing on me and then told me that I should be getting pain meds from my surgeon them says follow up with my Dr I have appointments scheduled already so I now have to live in miserable unbearable pain until surgery on 9-1-2016 because the Dr here said he would not give me anything for pain let alone a medication to help me stop throwing up as well....Its not right how they can play with your life based on how they see fit

Hands down worst hospital ever to go to. Literally come here to be slaved if your a worker. All the people of this place care for is there money. They literally have one person to clean all the surgical rooms, deliever and pick the laundry, and trash. Come here if youd like to have a lackluster experience

Very poor knowledge of knowing what blood work they can do and what they can’t. Supervisor is there for nothing basically. I had to come back multiple times so they figure out they can’t take my blood work because they don’t know how to do that. Very dissatisfied with there service. Will never go back to this “hospital” again.

This is quite an unfriendly service point particularly, for non-US citizens who requires medicare while in the CT area, and have to pay out of pocket. Use alternatives like Yale primary care center, etc.

This is the WORST hospital ever. I was in terrible pain and they made me wait 3 hours in the ER. Didn’t even give me a room I was in the hallway, did not see the doctor kept forgetting I was there. Charged me thousands for horrible service.

When you walk into an ER with a pain level of over 10 , 10 being the highest I dont understand why it takes over 2 hours to be treated. My first time there I waited 14 hours before they would see me because I was uninsured. My appendix nearly burst in the waiting room. This time I waited 2 hours to be seen and another 10 before I was admitted to a room. my appendix surgery was 14 years ago the reason I was back this time and a few time before is because they botched it up the first time.beware
