I scheduled a new patient appointment with Dr. Braun at the Speer location that was a little over a month away due to the practices availability. The office called me prior to the appointment for a reminder, and they stated in the voicemail they wouldnt be doing a physical on the first visit. I called the office back to clarify, and they specifically told me SEVERAL TIMES I was not going to get a blood test on the first visit so I did not need to fast. I was told the first appointment was similar to a meet and greet with the doctor. Ive never never of this type of appointment before, but I agreed because I had already waited nearly a month for my appointment.Once at the appointment and in the exam room with the nurse, I said Id like to establish myself as a patient to keep an eye on a health condition (which I do not have) that is very prevalent in my family, and I provided additional details regarding my family history and that condition. I emphasized several times that I do not have the condition, I am simply concerned because two members of my immediate family have it (one of whom is younger than I am).Once Dr. Braun came in, she asked me about the condition and my family history and I repeated the same information. Then she asked me how long I had been on medication for the condition, and I said that I do not have it, but members of my family have it. At this point I figured it was a miscommunication between the nurse and doctor. Then the doctor said I was low risk and I shouldnt be concerned (I knew this and repeated this several times, emphasizing that I simply wanted to keep an eye on risk factors associated with the condition). She then said we would do the blood test. I told her that her office staff specifically told me I wouldnt be doing the blood test today, and I had eaten breakfast about an hour before my appointment so the results wouldnt be accurate. She gave me orders for a blood test. She left and said a nurse will bring the orders.After waiting 20 minutes, the nurse walks in with the blood test kit. I told her I was just waiting for blood work orders and I couldnt do the blood test because I had eaten breakfast. She apologized and returned with the orders.Finally, I was checking out and wanted to make my next appointment for the physical and to review the results of my blood work. The receptionist said she would schedule me to return for blood work. Again, I told her I already had orders and the doctor would already have the results by the time I returned.Honestly, this experience was extremely off-putting. Clearly there is a lack of communication between staff, and the visit wasted my entire morning when I should have been at work. To add insult to injury, I also received a bill for a long office visit. I spent my entire visit (minus about five minutes) waiting for people who clearly didnt even speak to each other about me and my concerns and reasons for being there. They also qualified it as an office visit instead of a wellness check presumably because I couldnt do the blood test (based on information from THEIR OFFICE), and thus my claim was not covered by insurance because my deductible hasnt been met. This whole experience has been utterly ridiculous. I would not recommend this practice in any capacity as there are serious communication issues that ultimately wasted my time and cost me money.
