I looked at several options when considering a new home for my Mother 4 years ago. Mom has stated on numerous occasions that she feels like shes at home in Primrose. The entire staff adores Mom and has her set up on an activity schedule that she has chosen herself. The activities encourage socialization and build self-esteem and cognition. I am most amazed with the continued improvement in her mood, balance, and the fact that her cognitive abilities have increased three-fold. I can honestly say shes back to her ole happy self again. Their restaurant has great food which is unheard of in assisted living with sugar free deserts that Mom enjoys. Mom has made friends with whom she plays cards and yatzee with daily. The Executive Director Leslie Strohl is a rare jewel and keeps this ship running smoothly. She is always courteous and professional with family and Mom. Since I live out of State, knowing that Mom is safe and happy is of utmost importance to my family and I. I would highly recommend Primrose without hesitation as a new home for your loved ones.

My mom has been at Primrose for over 3 years and I couldn’t be happier with the care she is receiving! She has Alzheimer’s and always feels loved and cared for by the staff. I have relied on them more to keep her happy and safe during this unusual Covid year and they have done a fabulous job! Yesterday, they thanked me and other families and friends with some cocoa, cookies and a Santa and Grinch visit! They deserve the Thanks! ❤️

Ive had a long professional relationship with this Community. It is a gorgeous campus with great staff. My favorite part of this campus is its large dining area, I always feel like Im walking onto an outdoor patio.

When searching for an Assisted Living for your loved one it is important to do your research on what potentially will be their new home.As I look at previous reviews I can appreciate what other healthcare professionals have to say but I am more interested in what people who have their loved one at Primrose have to say, people like myself, who are in my shoes, who I can relate to, I want to know their experiences. This is my experience as a family member. I recently spoke with the Executive Director, Leslie Strohl, or should I say, tried to speak with her. my encounter was less than enthusiastic. In fact I was hung up on twice and than again by the receptionist when I asked for the Regional Director of Operations phone number. This behavior is not only unacceptable but also appalling, to know that healthcare professionals who are in charge of lives, and manage, those very people whom are directly caring for my loved one.On the occasions I have visited everyone has been very nice and my loved one always looks well put together.I am giving a 1 star to Primrose of Decatur because the Executive Director has horrible customer service abilities. This is based off of my experience with the leader of Primrose of Decatur

I normally don’t participate in social media or provide online customer reviews, but my family and I have been so impressed with the staff at the Primrose Retirement Community in Decatur, IL that I felt compelled to put this in writing since it’s currently not possible to see and tell them in person, due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. When it became evident to my mother two years ago that it was no longer practical for her to stay in her home, she remembered visiting friends who lived at Primrose and was impressed with the entire facility: the apartments, the grounds, the dining, the friendliness of the staff and all of the amenities. Since it had been a few years since her last visit, she asked my sister and me to tour the property to see if it was all she remembered and to consider it as an option for her new home. While we liked the other retirement communities we reviewed, we were most impressed with Primrose and it was clear Mom’s positive memories of her prior visits were clearly well deserved. Though it’s expected during a tour for the staff to highlight positives, which were many, we made a point to ask residents about their experiences and opinions. We were glad to hear their unanimous, effusive compliments about the property and staff which made the decision easy.Mom initially moved into an Independent Living apartment, which was warm, comfortable and had everything she needed for her safety and peace of mind. As we approached her first anniversary of residence it became evident to our family and the staff that Mom’s ability to attend to her daily needs had diminished sufficiently to the point that it made sense for her to transition to the Assisted Living option at Primrose. With the help of the staff, the transition was seamless and Mom is very happy, comfortable and content. Finally, I want to thank Leslie Strohl, Keli Causey and the entire staff of the Primrose Retirement Community for the great care they have provided my mother and the other residents, keeping them safe during this pandemic that, hopefully, will be ending soon. While they’ve worked countless extra hours responding to the needs and requests of the residents and their families, like mine, they have always been patient and accommodating. Thank you, hang in there, stay safe and keep up the great work!Tony Mormino

Mom, now 96, has been at Primrose close to 3 years. Of the few places we looked at, I know we made the right decision especially since Covid. I just hope when Moms time comes, her health doesnt require a move to a skilled nursing care facility first and just peaceful passes in her sleep in a place I know she is very much liked/loved by staff.  Though Covid has very much limited access to the facility, I feel more and more closer to the staff I had gotten to know over the years.  They have helped me solve problems by phone and via messaging. They also send me pictures/videos of the fun times where Mom is involved. One thing I have told people, there is little turn over in staff. I know many younger are in school, and move on to further their careers such as going from CNAs to LPN/RN.  But they seem to leave happy, starting a better job. I see alot of the same food service people too outside delivering or coming and going.  I guess that also indicate the mangers are good folks too, making for a good work environment. My interaction with management has been very good too. When the Covid thing started and lock down etc,  I had some concerns because Moms dementia. The executive director listen to me, and pretty much adjusted routines for Mom and others like her.I was recently allowed a special access to Moms apartment. The place was very clean, and the plants still very healthy looking. I know it wasnt Mom. It was the dedicated CNAs and Housekeepers.Cant wait till we can get back to family and friend activities. I miss the residents I use to socialize with pre Covid. I bet the first event will be a great time with great food. Thanks Decatur Primrose for everything!

I had a wonderful tour of your facility. The facility not only had ample support for aging loved ones in the form of care but in quality of life as well. The facility was clean and the people that I met had a pride in their homes. I was happy with all the various activities. I was impressed with the variety of things to do from an ice cream shop to a movie theater.

My wifes parents are in independent living at Primrose. The experience has been inspiring; beyond our high expectations. They are treated with respect and it seems that every effort is made to keep them active and engaged. We could not be more pleased.

My mother has been staying at Primrose as a respite patient since she fell in December. She has been recovering nicely due to the care and attention that she has received at Primrose. All of the staff are so pleasant and friendly. Their positive attitude is infectious and my mother has enjoyed the social contact as much as the physical attention that has been shown to her. I would recommend this facility highly because the environment is beautiful, well kept, and offers many amenities. Meals are well planned, offering good variety and very tasty. An overall great place to be!!!

I have visited Primrose several times because my parents live there. The staff is always pleasant, professional, and helpful. Everything is clean and well-maintained. There are several activity rooms with different decor and different choices. There are many planned activities both on and off the property. The residents are treated with the utmost respect, and it is easy to choose independence for those who want it.

The Primrose is the one of the most beautiful, well managed communities for both active folks, and those who benefit from varying degrees of assistance. My parents are enjoying a wonderful quality of life at the Decatur, IL Primrose. They moved back to Decatur from where we (daughter and son-in-law) live in Madison, WI, because there was no community that came close to the quality that Primrose offers. So thankful, and feel totally confident that if my folks need anything, the staff will be there to support them! Wish there was a Primrose in Madison, WI!
