Pleasant visit, the office staff was nice. I was seen in a timely manner and I was happy with service. Dr. Rick explained everything upfront. I will be back and will recommend.

Ive recommended Rick to several friends and family and Im very pleased with the clinical services I get for my annual skin cancer screening. Hes knowledgeable, professional, and easy-going. On the management side, Id love to see more transparency on billing. Ive never once received an itemized bill from the office; they require you keep a credit card on file and the office simply bills to the card without sending any sort of invoice or itemized billing codes. This feels sneaky. I have to track down what additional treatments were added to my bill for a screening since the invoice never makes its way to me- just the charge to my credit card.

Great dermatologist whom weve been seeing for years. She is thorough in her examination and answers any questions you may have. She always asks first if you have any areas you are concerned about so she can be sure to check those.

Dr Rick was so knowledgeable and amazing. I didn’t expect him to have so much auto immune knowledge. Really helpful. Also the technician helping me talked to me about similarities with us and really made me feel less crazy. She was amazing and lovely.

I absolutely HATE this dermatology office. Ive only been 3 or 4 times over the past few years when I needed more immediate treatment for my hormonal acne and every time I come here I regret it! The entire staff is rude and whoever answers their phone is completely clueless! I called because I was having a strange reaction to one of the treatments I got done here and she assured me someone would call me back by the end of the day. No one called. I called back the next day and she promised me someone would call me back by the end of the day, no one called. Someone eventually called me 4 days after my initial call which at that point I no longer needed their help. I called their office today because my pharmacy told me the doctor was not responding to approve a refill for a medication they prescribed me. (I have to take this medication at least 6 weeks to see results and I am currently at 4 weeks) The clueless woman who answers the phone once again assured me someone would call me back and of course no one did. Now the office is closed for the weekend so I have no way of getting in contact with them and the prescription I was taking this past month is now completely pointless because I wont be able to take it for the next 3 days! This office is very quick to take your money but does not even want to provide basic service/consideration for their patients! Please do not waste your time here.

Made appt for my daughter. She was seen by the PA, not the doc. I had insurance plus paid 150$ for them to tell her to wash with 2 store products. Her followup was scheduled the first day of school so I called to cancel it. Person said ok. No mention of a canx fee because I only called 24 hours in advance. I got a confirmation email later in the day so I called again to verify it was cancelled. So yes it was cancelled, for a 50$ fee, but I had to ask if there was a fee because she made a comment that we were considered a no-show. Otherwise they were just going to charge my card without telling me. I get they are a business, but i dont feel like my daughter got anything out of it. For her to say she wasnt interested in going back, thats pretty big. Do i want to reschedule? No thanks..

No matter which day your appointment is and for whatever reason youre seeing the good doctor doesnt matter, each patient is treated with the same respect and care by Dr. Kates and her professional staff for both a critical visit or a routine visit. I have never been more satisfied with a physician and her staff as I am with Dr. Kates.

I had a appointment about a spot on me face. This was my first appointment and I found the staff to be very nice and friendly. The PA Rick was very kind and took his time to explain everything. His assistant was also very kind and pleasant.

The people at Lisa Kates were all pleasant and kind. I did wait 45 minutes for my appointment and the prescription prescribed was over $1,000 which my insurance only covered $800.. so my copay was $200.. that much money for an ointment to treat a small infection on my nose seemed really expensive.

I had my first treatment with Dr. Kates yesterday. I found her offices to be very comfortable and her staff extremely competent, caring and professional. Dr. Kates was very thorough in her consultation and explained all options that were available to my particular desires. Two things impresses my on my first visit to see Dr. Kates. In the first instance, she was incredibly prompt - right on time; none of the waiting for the doctor will be with you in a moment stuff. Secondly, she was most professional in her approach to my skin issues, asking good questions and giving understandable responses. Im pleased with her practice and the care that I was given.

Front desk lady is not friendly at all. Did not feel welcomed at all until I was in the back. Ive never been in any doctors office where they “required” a physical copy of my insurance card (which I don’t have,) and after emailing the office - my card to them, front and back, sitting there filling out my paperwork listening to the front desk complain about “Now I have to print out all this extra stuff since he doesn’t have his card, we shouldn’t even take emails for this.” Like I’m not 4 feet away from you....... matter of fact I was close to leaving my paperwork on the chair and leaving lol.The staff in the back are very nice. The doctor was very pleasant and listened to everything. Helped me get a diagnosis.

I went here during COVID, and the office was COVID conscious in a way that was safe but did not interfere with the quality of care. The front desk personnel were very polite and helpful. Rick Brown and Colleen helped me during a routine appointment today and were both very personable and professional. They addressed all of my concerns and explained things every step of the way. I had to get some things checked and removed and it was completely painless. The appointment was on time and they did everything in a prompt manner (I didn’t have to wait at all to get seen). I didn’t feel rushed at all and they took time to discuss the process and aftercare with me. I couldn’t recommend them more!

Ive been going to Dr. Kates practice for 9 years and have recommended her and her staff to friends and family. All of us have had good experiences. Always prompt, always helpful, good and careful skin checks. Book those skin checks way ahead by the way, but for urgent things - changes in skin, bad poison ivy, etc - theyll get you in asap!

Foul play. Bait and switch. That was my experience with my first appointment at Dr Lisa Kate’s office. I was refused service because I did not wish to provide a credit card to be retained on file. “Sheila”, the Practice Administrator, told me that unless I provided a card, I could not see a doctor, as their policy “recently changed within the last two weeks.” No options were discussed. This policy is not on their website. The financial policy I received was revised 1/2020 (printed on the form!), and clearly states “Patients may choose not to have a credit card on file, however, there will be an administration fee applied to every billing statement”. I would expect a policy change to be communicated at the time when an appointment is made. And I would expect a written policy to be honored! Privacy and credit card security are paramount for me. I will take my money and insurance elsewhere where I will be treated with dignity and respect for my choice and my time.

Dr. Kates is very thorough. She and her staff are personable and provide a safe, welcoming atmosphere.

Rick Brown PA provides my medical dermatology care (annual skin cancer check) and my cosmetic services (laser). He takes the time to listen to my concerns, explain things, and consider my preferences when discussing treatment options. Rick is very skilled and highly professional. He makes sure that I do not have any further questions before leaving the exam room.

Wonderful experience at this office. Everyone’s been really nice and the nurse I’ve been working with, Sheila, is wonderful. We’ve got a plan mapped out to combat my melasma and I feel confident we will make progress. Gave 4 stars because I haven’t had any interactions with Dr. Kates personally, yet. I went in to have a cyst removed from my eyebrow. Dr. Kates explained the procedure in details as she was performing it. I had no pain at all, and I was so relieved. I cant even see where the cyst was. Im very happy with my outcome.

I recently saw Dr. Rick at Lisa Gates office. I have been seeing him for several years now for hair loss. My hair has gotten thinner as I get older and I am constantly worried about it as both my Mother and Grandmother lost all their hair. Dr. Rick has me on a treatment to help my hair loss and he checks me every six months. During these visits I am extremely anxious as I am afraid he will tell me my hair is getting worse and their is nothing he can do. Each time, Dr. Rick listens to my concerns and then reassures me that I am doing okay after examining me. He knows how I feel and makes it a point to reassure me - taking the time needed to prove to me that I am doing okay. After these visits, I always feel much better and relax a bit about my hair loss -Dr. Rick not only uses words to reassure me, but pictures, and data comparing visits both then and now. I have great faith in Dr. Rick always being honest with me about my hair loss - he is one person I can count on to tell me the truth on whether my hair loss is the same, getting better, or getting worse. I have moved this past year, and I still travel 45 minutes to an hour to see Dr. Rick for my hair loss. He is awesome!Bonnie Krum

This is the best Dermatology practice in the Annapolis area! I have gone to two other practices in the area, one of which was allegedly “the best”. I have to say, maybe the other practices were “the best” but this practice has it all over them! Not only did I get “THE BEST” attention, but the staff is very friendly and very attentive! No “stuffiness” in this practice! Just awesome service and care! I ended up in this practice because I could not be seen for 10 days at the practice that I was a patient at for many years! I had something on my face that needed immediate attention. This office squeezed me in. The PA was very knowledgeable and explained everything to me. Also had a few other things taken care of that were not part of the appointment! Very satisfied!

I would highly recommend the practice of Lisa Kates, MD. I have only been there once so far but I was made to feel they had all the time in the world for me. They were very informative. They answered all my questions. They didnt try to sell me any products. They dealt with the issues I made the appointment for and that was it. It was a great experience!

I have been a patient of Dr Kates for almost 20 years. She is conservative in caring for my skin and vigilant in examining for and preventing skin cancers. I trust her and everyone else in her office, including Rick and her admin and tech staff. Wait times are generally nil unless there is an emergency. The atmosphere in her waiting room and exam rooms is relaxing and pleasant.

As a new patient to this practice I was asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to my appointment. I dreaded this request because I felt like this would double (if not more) my waiting time. I am pleased to say, I was so wrong and had a wonderful experience! I arrived at 10:59AM for my 11:30AM appointment with my new patient forms already completed (as requested when I scheduled the appointment). I was greeted as soon as I arrived and each of the remaining new patient requests were fully explained to me. I sat down thinking here comes the waiting game. The medical assistant came to get me (early) at 11:19AM and brought me to the exam room. She identified who she was and went over what my visit was for. She left the room to get Rick (the Physicians Assistant) ... Again I figured, here comes the wait time. Nope, I was wrong again. Less than 5 minutes, Rick and the Medical Assistant were back. Super friendly. Knew exactly what my issue was, explained exactly how the issue would be taken care of. Unfortunately because I am pregnant I have to wait to proceed with what needs to be done (authorization is needed from my OB). But Rick is on it! He called the OB office and even called me later in the afternoon to inform me of his efforts. I am so impressed with this practice and am so pleased that I chose Center For Dermatology for my skin care needs :)

He spent a good amount of time with me and was eager to show me the regime for my eczema. I felt like he really cared. My eczema cleared up in 2 days, 1 day faster thanbhe predicted!

Disappointing experience trying to schedule an appointment. I was scheduled for an appointment in the afternoon, but the office called me the day before to cancel or reschedule. Apparently they didnt have enough patients scheduled in the afternoon so they wanted me to come in earlier (which I couldnt because of work) I guess they want back to back clients or its not worth seeing someone. I was hoping to find a good dermatologist near my house, but I guess Ill have to keep looking...

This is my first treatment with Dr. Kate for filler and botox. First, the time she took with me was fantastic. We went over all my concerns (I had a long list) and I never felt rushed. She was very understanding and helpful. Then the treatments...Ive had several botox and filler treatments with plastic surgeons that ranged from fair to good. Dr. Kates were better than good. She is magic with a needle, I had no numbing nor did I need it. It was painless! I didnt bruise as I usually do because of her gentle, precise technique. The result was terrific. I will never go anywhere else. I cant say enough. Im totally thrilled I found her. I feel so lucky and also relieved to have a go-to Doctor to make me look better when I need that. I have other treatments planned now that I know what she is capable of.Shes just the best!

Extremely expensive for the most basic treatment, even if you have good insurance, and they will try to keep you coming back even if they know you cant afford it. Blue cross blue shield, paid $176 for my first appointment, then another hundred for the second, even though it was for the same treatment. They tried to convince me to come back a third time even after the treatment was over, but Im glad I didnt unknowingly waste another hundred dollars.

She is a very caring doctor with good bedside manner. Very capable.

Visited this office a little over a year ago with my Aetna insurance that they said they accepted after a few office visits they said they dont take my insurance? Then suggested if we come back that we can pay out of pocket? Why would I pay out of pocket if I have insurance?Long story short now they are trying to place me in collections for non payment...Bad bad business practices, Be careful doing business with this office!

Ive probably had 10 appointments with Dr. Kates so far, for a variety of medical and/or cosmetic reasons. I trust her judgment/diagnosis 100%. She treated my medical issues with utmost professional care. There is hardly any wait to be seen at the appointment time, and she is extremely gentle and has my comfort in mind. No one in her office has ever pushed a product or procedure; in fact, I had to initiate the conversation about additional treatment. I am so happy with her as my dermatologist that I referred my husband to her as well. We will both be patients of Dr. Kates as long as we live in the area.

I went to another dermatologist for over a year without any improvement for my psoriasis. I decided to try another practice and found Dr. Kates. Within 2 visits, I had a big improvement and for the first time since this issue began I have relief. While I have not had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Kates, I have seen her PA Rick Brown and he is absolutely delightful. He made me feel so comfortable and that he was actually interested in how my psoriasis began and the trouble I have had. He is just wonderful, kind and caring, as is the whole staff. I highly recommend Dr. Kates and her associates.

Rick performed a total body exam on me and found a few small actinic keratosis (pre-cancer) on my head and a growth on my back. He sprayed liquid nitrogen on the actinic keratosis. He cut off the growth and sent it to be tested for skin cancer (it came out negative). His Assistant put antibiotic ointment and a Band-Aid on the wound. Since I saw Rick, the actinic keratosis and the wound have healed. Overall, I was very pleased with Rick, his Assistant, and Dr. Kates and Staff.

In the beginning this seems like a wonder experience and a great place to be! I scheduled an appointment for the first time things were great I was told they were going to get to the bottom of my skin condition! I never saw Dr. Kates I saw the Nurse practioner who kept trying to treat me for one thing and kept telling me how I feel in which he was in correct I would later find out! My second visit I forgot my debit card at home and they told me that they couldnt see me because I couldnt pay my copay but my skin was acting up terribly I leave in tears because I felt physically bad because I itched! I rescheduled came back a third time and they told me I had to pay a co payment of about $90 because I was a no show for my appointment the second time but they were going to be generous and waive it just this time! I went through with the appointment and go a doctors note so that I could give it to my job because I have to leave work early because Dr. Kates office hours arent condusive to my work hours. So EVERYTIME I have to make an appointment with their office I have to leave work early! He also gave me an injection and told me that it would clear my sinuses up in which I didnt he went along to explain to me about how I would probably get hooked on this but he is only going to give it to me once. My fourth and FINAL time was a follow up appointment the little nurse. It walks in and says well why are you here.... so I replied well you told me to follow up and nothing as really changed and he proceeded to tell me well keep hydrating your skin as I asked u too and also look on the national ezema website and that should help! Soooo I asked for a doctors note so that I could return back to work. He proceeded say wow you need another one? I gave you one EVERYTIME you have been here and that this the very last that he is going to give me a doctors note because he is writing way to many and that if my job called hed have to lie and say that I wasnt there for an appointment and that he will not ever write me a doctors note again and if I have a skin flare up thats the only way he will do it. He then proceeded to lecture me as if I were lying saying a I needed a doctors note! What shocks me is that every other doctors that I have been to always gives me a doctors note to verify to my job the next day that I went to the doctors! And lastly the Nurse boy gave me the wrong diagnoses I went and got a second opinion and I am now feeling 100% better!!! I would not recommend this office to anybody they are about taking money and giving wrong diagnoses and being rude! Never in all my years had I felt so disrespected and talked to like I was a 3 year old taking advantage of the system. Dr. Kates you will never be able to get any of my money or services again!!!
