Excellent small museum with some wonderful Native American artwork. The artworkIs housed in a fabulous space! It was greatly organized and put together. The quick scavenger hunt did a great job to engage myKids! The small gift shop was good. They have some wonderful gifts! I definitely recommend this place to visit!!
Small museum in historic section of Corning. If you think this is a museum about Norman Rockwell, then you are in for a big disappointment. This is a Rockwell, Robert Rockwell, an owner of a prominent gift shop in Corning who donated his store to the city, and it was turned into a museum.Dont get me wrong here. They did try to make a museum out of what was the collection that Mr. Rockwell left behind. It has some artifacts of Native Americans. Some art works of American west. Its affiliation with Smithsonian allows it to borrow some works from Smithsonian to make its traveling exhibit interesting. The time we visited, there was an exhibit of National Geographic Photographer Nathan Benn, and pictures from the local photographer Chris Walters.Over all, it is a very small museum. Most people stopped in, did so after doing some shopping from the district or holding a combo ticket with the Corning Glass museum up the road. The staff was very nice and helpful. The admission is steep for what it offers.
This museum is amazing! All time that Ive gone to Corning Museum of Glass, I never knew that The Rockwell Museum was around the corner! Its very quaint and almost private. You really understand that culture and the people are wonderful to talk with. I met a woman named Pam who really showed me around being that it was my first time. They have any exhibit dedicated to some of the people that actually live there! It was totally worth the 108 mile drive!Today they had The Day of the Dead event. It was awesome! They even had an exhibit to honor that! I will definitely come back! It is also great for children and they have the Rockwell Kids Art Museum that is around the corner. I didnt get a chance to go this time, but thats our next stop when we come back to Corning! Go, go! I promise youll enjoy it!
We purchased tickets for both Rockwell Museum and Corning but ran out of time so we only visited the Corning. However, we did visit with the gift shop of the Rockwell Museum and made a few purchases...including our masquerade masks!! Tickets are good for one year, well be back. Ill update the review then!
Offers discounts for locals...great place for area residents to visit often! They have an awesome permanent collection of Western artwork, sculptures, Native American works and beautiful nature inspired paintings. Wonderful gift shop too (that you can shop at without paying the museums admission). Plus, they also offer an array of changing exhibitions. I especially like their annual Gingerbread Competition.
Our visit was a lunch pit stop on a road trip. This is a small museum with large over priced gift shop. We stopped here intending to eat our lunch on their balcony. The lady said no food was allowed in the museum. She directed us to a park nearby. When we went back to explore the museum, l was surprised we couldnt use the balcony. It was all set up with tables, chairs and trash cans. I understand about no food in the museum, but we had everything stowed in a backpack.Anyway, they have one upper floor with interesting Indian western era paintings and artifacts. I did enjoy those paintings from the 1800s. They are well preserved and capture the Indian way of life. Corning is a cute town. This museum is worth it as freebie option with other museum ticket or reciprocal membership. The only good value in the gift shop were the buffalo wood carvings and a metal native American on horseback on sale for $19:99.
Nice small museum of mostly western art. A nice variety of painting, sculpture and photography.
So glad I finally kept my next time Im in Corning promise and visited the Rockwell Museum. After the wonderful hometown welcome from the friendly staff while buying my ticket, I was blown away by the quality and range of art displayed. I was also happy to find a great array of science-inspired activity gifts for kids in one corner of the gift shop. The annex with hands-on art projects for children was another delightful discovery. My experience took me from next time to every time. Cant wait to go back.
Lovely location, beautiful building, staff very sweet. Art is displayed in a way to easily see and the flow is easy to follow. However, this is not Norman Rockwell. The style of the art wasnt exactly our cup of tea but I will say the 3rd floor Native American exhibit was worth the visit. We did the combination admission for the Corning Glass Museum + the Rockwell Museum. Both had free parking.
This museum, affiliated with the Smithsonian, is a real gem. Exquisite western art on the third floor including two Remington bronzes and a painting, other lovely bronzes, a very large Albert Bierstadt, and many other paintings of equal quality. The second floor had some very interesting works of native Americans and Hispanics including baskets, pottery and beadwork. There was a beautiful stylized totem. I would highly recommend spending time here.
An absolute gem of a little museum. Excellent collection of Western US art, with the highlight being a number of Remington and Russell original paintings and sculptures. A beautiful, spacious, comfortable building rounds out the experience. Its not overwhelming, so it can be covered easily in an afternoon. Located only a block off of Market Street, its certainly worth a short detour!
A lovely meuseum with a wide range of art on display. Most displays are surrounded by additional information on artist or style choices. We learned a good bit about loavl and Native American art during our short visit. The facilities are clean and well kept. There is a large wooden staircase to traverse the three floors...however I did see an elevator if needed. Benches and seating throughout for those of us who need frequent rest.A small and interesting gift shop with some unique related items greets you at the entrance and exit.BONUS: a cool terrace on the top floor with seating and tables for a quick skyline view of Corning NY.
Some really exquisite pieces in the collection, and an engaging scavenger hunt for our kids. Our kids also loved the makers space they had set up around the corner. I especially loved the local photography exhibit. Very beautiful , and friendly staff.
Just to be clear, this is not a Norman Rockwell museum, but rather Bob Rockwell and his wife and their collection of American art. It is a nice place and some wonderful works and if you can, check it out.
Very interesting museum displaying American paintings. Native subjects are predominant, with some native artists and craftsmanship on display. Very nice gift shop too.
Its a small museum with some wonderful art. Our small family went on a weekday at just about 4pm and we were able to just about take it all in before 5pm. I would recommend anyone going to give it about two hours at the least to really give it the time it deserves however. Our young son loved the scavenger hunt activity! We plan on going again whenever possible.
Great art collection for a small city. Many big name artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. And, they have the good sense to leave their best works on display all the time, unlike the museum in Elmira. Highly recommended.
A great selection of western and Native American art hidden in a great museum in upstate New York!
Great museum! We thought we were going to the Norman Rockwell museum. 😂😂 Pleasantly surprised by the eclectic and marvelous Rockwell collection. Its a fascinating place with an active connection to local art and education. Had a fun and interesting visit.
Fantastic collection of Native American art and artifacts from the American West. A mix of paintings, sculptures and photographs. The museum felt family-friendly and theres a dedicated childrens area. Enough to see to keep you preoccupied for several hours while visiting Corning. Time your visit for summer when their rooftop sometimes hosts Music & Margaritas evenings.
I went here on a school field trip. The guided tour is nice and informative. I personally prefer just walking around and observing all the unique features in the museum. Theres parking across the street in the bus station lot if you are wondering. After taking a walk around this wonderful museum, head out to the gaffer district for some excellent local cuisine. Stop by some shops and get a taste of this wonderful town.
So funny thought I was going to see some Norman Rockwell stuff. Turned out great though, really very nice museum.
Called in for some general questions about the museum and Ned ended up setting up a perfect date night idea for my wife and I. While I haven’t been there yet, if the staff is HALF as helpful and friendly as Ned, the place must be amazing.
This is a very nice collection of art. There are no Norman Rockwell a here, but lots of Western Art and some nice modern art too. There is a shuttle to the Corning Museum of Glass and a duo price break too.
On loan from the Smithsonian, Yousuf Karsh’s portraits of twentieth century’s most influential in all walks of American life, like Grace Kelly was incredible. Loved the permanent collection of including native north american Indian tribes and early America. I encourage any visitors of the glass museum to also stop at the Rockwell. Nice eats nearby.
I always enjoy visiting this museum. Their current photography exhibit is very nice.
If you feel a tour of those addicted to wealth and power is in order, this is your museum.
Wide variety of art, much more than I anticipated.
It is a lovely museum exhibiting a small but interesting collection of American Art. The building is beautiful itself. I highly recommend to get a ticket to both Corning Museum and Rockwell Museum since the former is huge and requires a lot of time, and the latter is small and can be an icing on the cake.
Nice museum after visiting the corning glass museum.
I’m a proud member of The Rockwell Museum! I visit frequently and enjoy the thoughtful programming they offer the community. The exhibits are beautifully curated, and provide a diverse view of American history. Bonus: their gift shop is awesome!
Wonderful collection. Beautiful landscapes and western sculptures.
Really insightful look at native America
Beautiful art. Well displayed
This museum was a great day with my children who are of teen years. They offer a scavenger hunt to win a prize. Great time for my family.
Very polite staff, beautiful gift shop and great collection of art. Great for kids in finding art within art with their I spy game while visiting.
It descirbed itself as a museum on the american exprience, but the museum felt very scattershot with the content. However, that is to be expected as the material in the museum was contributed by a couple who collected tidbits here and there. A large part of the museum is dedicated to native american history, but it felt off in the museum.
Nice Western Art museum.Good gift shop.Interesting building.I was surprised that it wasnt about Norman Rockwell.Only one of his paintings. It turns out that the name of the Museum comes from the prominent Corning family that donated their collection of Western art.Having said that, I wasnt disappointed at all. :)
The Rockwell Museum was wonderful. They scan your temperature and provide sanitizing stations throughout the building. The arrows on the ground direct you in an easy tour around the building. It was lovely, as always.
Not as big as I was expecting, but what they have is amazing and well worth seeing.
What ever happened to this once great museum? Apparently more administration than art.
A very unique at museum
A wonderful museum & a great experience. Loved the art & architecture. Great stuff! But unfortunately a bit expensive. We will come again. Maybe this time with a coupon.
Cute little art museum with lots of mediums historically represented.
We were impressed.
Was disappointed not what I thought it was going to be but they do have some very nice paintings and sculptures
Very nice small museum with American art of the West. About one hour long visit.
Great museum and amazing artwork.
One word describes this location BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Very friendly staff, everything is spaced out and good artwork displayed in the galleries
A lot more art than I was expecting for a smaller museum. The art finding game for the kids kept them engaged in looking at the art.
Very nice paintings and sculptures
There are a few interesting exhibits.
Very nice and educational museum that is also kid friendly too.
A few nice pieces. Quite small.
I grew up in the Corning, painted post area. During school they took us to the Rockwell every year. It used to have so much native American art they had bisons now its filled with pictures of corning incorporated workers. Its completely empty
Loved it had an amazing time and got to see my first Original Keith Harring painting !!!!!
This is a world class experience of America the Beautiful! From the Hudson River Painters to the Realism of the West, this beautifully curated collection is so incredible. The collection of Prints by Women really showcases the diversity of experience that women artists created and share with us.The beauty and simplicity of the building itself is elegant and comfortable. The gift shop is absolutely beautiful and the offerings are fabulously chosen. GO SEE THIS MUSEUM!
Great museum. They have a variety of different displays and you are able to learn a lot of different things. Plus my kids loved the free craft they gave them.
Small, quiet and friendly museum. Nice beadwork exhibit.
Beautiful presentation of art.
What once was a beautiful museum recognizing the American West and its history has now become a showroom for woke leftist propaganda and intersectionality. I cannot recommend this museum at this time.
The top floor has some great pieces. However the other floors were nice but small.
Beautiful pieces exploring the art and history of the American west. Logistics worked out great in terms of navigating the museum per covid guidelines
Wonderful staff, interesting art
Not Norman, thats for sure.
Small museum, has a lot of local content.
Very nice but staff was to busy being on their phones to help check out
An absolutely beautiful museum. Only costs about $12 per adult to get in and only takes an hour to walk through. Definitely consider stopping if you want a place to learn a little and stretch your legs. If have any questions the staff is very knowledgeable and will tell you almost anything you want to know!
I loved it cant wait to bring my grand children.
Some nice art pieces in the musuem. Not a very big museum though. Went through it in 30mins.
Really enjoy this museum went in for the ginger bread house competition
Beautiful art museum! Always something new to discover.
