I went for my first appointment there yesterday and could not have felt better about it. I was seen quickly and felt genuinely cared about while I was there. To be completely honest, the reviews had me questioning if I should keep the appointment, but I am so glad that I did. I saw Colin Smith and he was truly wonderful and very personable. I will be happy to continue going here and being treated like a person instead of just another patient. Front desk staff is A+ and the nurse I saw was wonderful as well. Could not have had a better experience.

Trueman is terrible. I wont even call him doctor because he doesnt constitute one. My first visit he gave me an unrequested drug test and tried to charge me for it. It has been months and it still has not been resolved be him and his staff. Petty grab for cash. I brought a concern up to him that he had no interest in checking out. Complete sociopath and doesnt listen to the patient. He also refused to write me a prescription for my anti anxiety that I have been prescribed for years (that he previously prescribed me) because I had to miss an appointment. Petty little person. Petty little excuse for a doctor. Keep in mind, this was over a series of two visits. Save yourself some time.

DO NOT COME HERE! I went here for a few months, at first I loved it then I absolutely hated it. I’ve been in treatment for years and haven’t touched a thing since and he kept saying I never once passed my drug test when I know for a fact I did, he then says it’s either you’re not taking enough or too much which didn’t make sense. All they care about is money they don’t care about helping people and it’s ridiculous. WHATEVER YOU DO DONT COME HERE!

First off, I’d like to say that the office personnel is awesome! This review has nothing to do with them. I’d give them 5 stars if it was just them. Jess is an amazing counselor. She’s kind, understanding, and she really tries to connect with you and help you. Dr. Colin’s mother works in the building also and she’s wonderful. Mrs. Sam is the receptionist and she was always kind to me. My review is based on how I was personally treated by Dr. Colin Smith, Dr. Smiths son. I was a valid patient for almost a year and I went monthly. I believe my review has merit because I was there, had actual experiences with him, and tried my best to be a good patient. I actually agree with what everyone has said that’s given him a negative review. It has been my experience also. In my experience, Dr. Colin was nice at first. As time started to go by, I saw a completely different side of him month by month. He doesn’t listen and doesn’t let you talk. He will talk down to you and make you feel like he’s better than you. I think he honestly believes he’s always right and that he’s justified in yelling at you or talking to you however he wants because “he’s a doctor.” If you just so happen to need Subutex because you get pregnant, he gets very, very angry about it. He doesn’t allow for therapy to be any more than maybe 10 minutes once you’ve been there a few times. Every single time I ever saw him, he was only in the room with me for about five minutes. He’s always rushing you out like he has better things to do than deal with you. Even if you’re the only one in the office, he does this. It’s his attitude that’s the problem. There is hardly anything you can learn about someone and their situation or how they’re doing in five minutes. If you are not five minutes early, he considers you late and will reschedule you for days later...even if you’re going to be out of medication, which will make you sick. It doesn’t matter if you have a valid reason for being one minute late...he doesn’t care. He’s gets angry if you’re on time for your visit instead of early. If he doesn’t personally approve when you reschedule your visit with the front desk, he will allow you to come in for your rescheduled visit and then tell you to leave once you get there. Then, he’ll give you a day and time he allows that you can come back. This is also him knowing you will be out of medication, but he’ll do it anyways. He screamed at me and pitched a fit like a 3 year old child at my last visit there. It was completely unprofessional how he treated me. And his claims were completely not valid. And yes, the people that work with him know he’s like this. They walk on eggshells around him. I hope one day he learns sympathy and empathy and treats people the way he expects to be treated. I’m positive he’d never allow someone to treat him the way he treated me. This happened a little over a year and a half ago. I never said anything because the whole situation gave me anxiety...and you think it’s just you. But it’s not just me, it’s a lot of other people too. Choose your doctor wisely.

I was a paient there for years. When I started dr. Collin Smith was wonderful. I told everyone about him. As time went on things got bad. On one occasion the office staffed miss scheduled the type of appointment that I was there for and he refused to see me after I took time off work. Another time he had put me on blood pressure meds. I took them a few days go so sick that I was not able to stand up without passing out. I spoke with his nurse and was recommend to cut the dose in half. I was still sick so was told to have my pressure checked. It was bottoming out. The nurse told me to stop taking the meds and monitor my blood pressure three times or more a day. My next appointment Dr. Collin yelled at my said he was dropping me for non compliance. I tried asking him what I should have done but before I could even get the question out he walked out of the room. I was devastated. I had been a patient there for years. His nurse later called me and said that Dr. Collin had signed off on all his notes. I have since switched doctors and told my blood pressure is great. Guess its a good thing he did drop me or who knows what would have happened staying on that medicine.

Ive never seen any doctor whos received so many terrible reviews!Ive been a stable suboxone patient for 6 years and a few months ago I decided to find a doctor here in Cookeville. They have a lot of very rigid rules that are in place for people new to recovery and I assumed long term stable patients would be treated with basic human dignity, I was wrong! In 6 years Ive never failed a drug screen or broke any program rule yet over one ideological disagreement that had nothing to do with recovery, or this provider he starts basically telling me if I dont agree with his ideas then hes going to punish me by making me come back every 2 weeks instead of monthly and he cut my dose in half! Simply because of a disagreement about something that has nothing to do with my treatment! This guy has a serious power trip and is threatening my stability and life! This doctor is young and his lack of emotional maturity is a serious liability to anyone in recovery. I hope he reads this and takes this to heart. As for me my sobriety is too important to play his foolish mind games.

My second annual visit he entered the room angry because I was non compliant and discharged me on the spot, no exam. Left me crying in the room. I have no idea what happened, he must have mixed me up with someone else. Very shocking and traumatic! I hope hes OK, because something is definitely wrong with him. The staff seemed like they wanted to hug me or help me but couldnt for some reason. Weird!

Dr. Colin Smith showed his true colors at my last visit. He had no compassion and his ego was more important to him than providing medical care. His behavior was shockingly hostile and unprofessional. Im glad I wasnt alone when it happened. You are supposed to be able to trust your doctor. They arent supposed to cause you intentional emotional harm. Awful. Just awful. He has four less patients because of how he acted.

My wife and I switched from a family doctor in Sparta, where we live, to use Colin and Trueman having been told they take Tri-care for military patients, unlike many doctors in the area. Ive been told Tri-care doesnt always payout for clinical care as your commercial payers do so in some instances I can understand why most clinics dont take it but the fact that Father & Son does was huge for us. I truly feel like that selflessness alone allows them to focus on treating patients and not making money. Never had a bad experience with Father & Son and cant imagine there ever being one. Always able to take us in, even on short notice, and never have to sit around wondering why we are not being seen with an empty waiting area and no one ever leaving their own visit. Think about it. Please keep up the good work because its hard to find a good doctor now days. Thanks guys!

(Edited at bottom in response from owner)this Office had to delete their Facebook because all of their terrible reviews.Dr. Colin Smith is an evil man that will degrade you and will call you names. He called me a liar and a fraud. He made me feel very uncomfortable in his office while he yelled at me (in front of my three month old baby) and then told me I’d never get medical care from his office and to get out. I left his office in tears and absolutely humiliated. I begged him to just listen to me and to let me talk and he told me he had no reason to listen to a liar and there was nothing I could do to change his mind. I asked him to call my pcp and he told me he’d never talk to them nor would he ever answer their call. I plan on reporting him to the medical board and I hope he gets the mental help that he needs. He abuses his power as your doctor and even his own sister(works in the practice) is terrified of him and said that other patients were as well. Check out his google reviews if you don’t believe me. He’s a disgusting man on a power trip and it’s terrifying when you are on the other end of his wrathEdit: I left this office because of the way I was treated.. being yelled at and called a liar and a fraud and many other names (whilst I was breastfeeding my 3 month old). I’m not going to continue to see a Doctor that yells and bullies his patients even if it means losing $225. And I reported you to the medical board. Good luck with your office.

I once was a patient of this practice. One year ago. I see alot of reviews that have somehow (they were negative experiences) disappeared since last Ive seen this. I am now saved by another provider that truly care about their patients lives. This one...does not. Although it has been a year, after being emotionally negleted and left without a dr, I didnt write a review back then but I see there are some who have had to endure the same unpredictable, unprofessional treatment. I hate it that others went through the same disguisting behavior I also had to. At first everything was great. He was sweet nice and caring. But each week slowly the mask was peeling off and his true colors shined bright. He is a great actor. He reminds me of Jekyll and Heid. Ive never met his father but im sure he is much more professional than his son. The staff is absolutely delighful. The counselor whom just so happens to be his sister is even afraid of him. She stated he acts this way sll the time. I told her im afraid of him. She whispers quietly. so am I. The sessions only lasted 5 minutes with her tho. No offense toward her because she is a sweetheart but that is not a sufficient enough time for addiction treatment. Dr. Collins is a scary person and its frightening that he has the position of power that he has. Instead of helping his patients. He is causing further damage to them. As each week went by I was getting depressed/felt helpless and after leaving my appointments I came out worse and feeling like a horrible person and a garbage of a human being for having a problem (I suffer from PTSD hence why I had an addiction issue) Please find another place for addiction treatment. There are better options out there. To reduce money, time, and save emotional well being. Find another place. Im suprised to see that he is still a specialist. My heart goes out to anyone who has been treated horribly by this dr. Ill never forget the way I was treated and what was said to me.

Beware! I switched to Dr. Colin Smith in 2015 because he was listed under Family Medicine in Livingston, TN. Our last visit was in November of 2015 after he accused me of unethically requesting for him to refill a prescription (Pramipexole) needed for Restless Leg Syndrome. Every doctor that Ive had and the one I have now prescribes six refills on this medicine. It is not addictive, but without it, Im in twitchy-climbing-the-wall agony. When he refused, I was told by office staff that I must come in and see him even though I worked in Nashville (80 miles from Cookville, 101 miles from my home). I was forced to leave work to see him and then was told (by him), Im your doctor. You do what I say. I called him arrogant. He said, See ya, and walked out. That was the end of it. Turns out, Ive had symptoms of the onset of Crohns disease (which landed me in the hospital for eight days in mid-2016). In 2017, I had a few mini-strokes and was told that Id endured several mini strokes in all (CT scans showed them). Maybe if someone had knocked the ADDICTIVE ego out of his ears, I would have been helped sooner. So why am I leaving this review in 2018? I seriously doubted this man would still be seeing patients. To clarify here--he is an addiction specialist, which I really wish Id have known before I listed him as my family physician (which many websites list him as). I obviously do not recommend his family physician services.

I read the nasty things online about Dr. Colin Smith and thought that these were probably people who just didn’t get their way but after a few visits, he showed me just how nasty he could be. I had been doing so well and was very proud myself, I was actually looking forward to my visit. However, he burst through the door and started shouting at me, at first, I just assumed he was looking at someone else’s chart. He called me names and accused me of doing things I hadn’t done. He told me that the DEA was going to have him put me in rehab. He told me that if I would admit my wrongdoings he would let me stay but I refused. I expressed how upset I was to his counselor Jesica and she reassured me that this was just regular behavior for him and that I wasn’t being kicked out. I made and appointment for two weeks but I never went back. I actually worry that he has such personal information about me such as my SS number and address. And why does Family Wellness Pharmacy only fill prescriptions for Suboxone for Dr. Smith’s patients only?? That’s not right. Thankfully, Walgreens will fill a legitimate on time Rx for anyone with proper ID and will allow you to use discounts, and it’s a fraction of the price from the other pharmacy. I’ve been to meetings here as well as several other counties and it seems that everyone knows about Dr. Smith. If you are reading this Dr. Smith, I know I told you I wouldn’t per your request write anything online about you but that was before you turned on me and treated me like garbage.

Great staff terrible doctor. I had been going here for 6 months and found out I was pregnant they were very nice in the beginning and changed my medicine which was fine they told me my insurance wouldn’t cover it. Well when I went to the pharmacy I found out that my insurance would in fact pay for it considering it was 112$ a week I really needed Help so I contacted my insurance (tenncare united health care) they also said they would in fact pay well Collin refused to sign the preauthorization even after my insurance contacted him saying yes they would. 2 weeks went by and I was barely affording my medication so I found a dr who specializes in pregnant women in this medication and asked if they would send my paperwork over and the new Dr can’t get me in until 2 weeks. So I called the office back and let them know my appointment coming up in 2 days would be my last they refused to see my and was very childish saying I needed to take him off as my primary care also. I have never seen such terrible practice in my life also with him knowing that I could have a miscarriage without my medication. The staff is great so is the therapist but the Doctor is very childish and spiteful. Please don’t listen to everything they tel you it may be a lie. My new doctor and also my insurance said they have never seen a doctor be so ridiculous as to just signing a preauthorization and acting like he knew everything. Please contact your insurance and find a doctor that actually cares for you and your well being because if he doesn’t care enough to put and unborn child at risk he doesn’t care about you !

I have known the Smiths for twenty years--or more, and for that time, Truman has been my doctor. I grew up with his kids, and I even babysat his kids a time or two (one of whom is Dr. Collin Smith, who practices in the same office as his dad now.) I see Truman every three months and have since 2009. Everytime I go in, I get treated by the staff as if Im family. I used to see Trumans daughter at the front desk, and often saw his wife. Im sure Im a little biased because Ive known them so long, but Ive never seen anyone be treated any less than I. Good people. Good doctors. (Ive only been seen by Collin once, but he was roommates with my brother in college, and I know hes smart and caring. )Edit: If you review this practice because you didnt get your fix, you are wrong. Ive never been a patient of Collins--although I was on subutex for ten years, and during some of that time I was and am being treated by the elder Smith for alcoholism. This should be a five-star-rated practice. Im a recovering drug addict and alcoholic. Elder Dr. Smith stuck it out with me, and he saved my life (dependant alcoholic here). I know what its like to detox on opiates--but you wont die.Stop leaving bad reviews because you didnt get what you wanted. In the end, theres a reason why they are the doctors. *Sighs
