Do not see this man. When I met him first time, I got all of my procedure to plug my tear bag by a doctor who was working for him. Dr. Cowden came in once and he didnt even check how other doctor did. Luckily he did just fine. Several months later, I needed to do the same procedure because I had a temporary plug. I told Dr. Cowden I had a temporary plug once and he brought a permanent one without asking me any questions. (According to the doctor did the procedure, each patient must try at lease a few time with temporary plug and then you take the semi-permanent plug to be sure.) When his student came in, I told her about what I knew about the protocol to have at lease one more temporary plug was needed and I asked her to double check with him. He never answered the question nor any explanation about this procedure. He kept talking to the student and no explanation to me (he almost faced at the student whole time except when he examined me physically). He was telling her how the plug sticks out.My eyes were irritated because the plugs were sticking out. Because he sounded like it was the correct way, I thought this may get better tomorrow. But next morning, I sensed sharp pain and my both eyes were red around the plugs were. I decided to go back to the office again and luckily he was working at the different office so I had a different doctor. He told me of course it hurts because it is sticking out and touching my eye. He pushed them in a bit and no more pain. Even the nurse saw it and wondered why it was sticking out.I cant believe he is teaching incorrect way of the procedure to the student and he is still practicing the medicine. I still have a pain in my eye and hopefully I get heal but I cant imagine what if I didnt go soon enough...Do not see this doctor. You will get worse than what you have now.

My son got Pseudomonas (bacteria) and a Staff Infection in one eye after sleeping with his contacts. It happened QUICKLY And it was treated QUICKLY.His was lucky, he had a Great physician Dr. John Cowden and he got his sight back, we decided to wait a year for his body to heal its self then we did a partial cornea transplant to improve his vision. He was lucky again...It’s been 12years since that happened and he is doing fine... Several years ago I had a cornea transplant with Dr. Cowden when he was at Kresge Eye Institute. He is a god awful man. He has a horrible bedside manor, no compassion, and totally heartless. I have had nightmares over this man for years. I was allergic to the preseratives in the eye drops and was in constant, horrible, excruciating pain. Every time I took an eye drop it felt like I was dropping pins in my eye. I went back to him over and over and over due to the horrible pain I was in and he just considered me a pain in the neck. He acted like it was all in my head. He ignored my pain and did nothing for me. I am a photographer and was unable to work for months. I finally contacted the pharmaceutical company ( Allergan ) myself. It wasnt until Allergan contacted Dr. Cowden that he finally took it serious. It was so awful going to a Doctor for help feeling desperate from pain and he wants nothing to do with you. Basically acting like it was in my head. I will never ever forget what this man did to me. Every time I went into the office his staff even acted like it was in my head. Every time I would see him, he would write notes and draw a picture of my eye, showing all these abrasions on my cornea but did nothing to try to figure out why I kept getting more and more of these corneal abrasions. I wish I would of sued the bastard for what he put me through. Do not ever go to the man. Spare yourself.
