I arrived a little early. The staff at the reception desk were courteous and friendly. My wait time was maybe five minutes. The person that performed my Mammogram made me feel very comfortable. During the mammogram she took the pictures as quickly as possible so I wouldn’t be squeezed for longer than necessary.Overall I was happy with the experience. However I was also happy when it was over. Now I’m off the hook for a year.

Maury Regional saved my husband’s life when he had a heart attack. I called and said I’m on my way with him; they met us at the door with 12 staff members ready to take care of him! Staff was wonderful, hospital is clean. Hospital food was very good. I’m eternally thankful and grateful for them!

I had a mammogram, bone density and 3 MRIs the same day 4-27. Both techs were excellent and treated me in a very caring manner. I had to return a week later for a different mammogram on the right breast- then followed by an ultrasound. The techs were awesome- showed me the area of concern from first mammogram. The radiologist came in after the ultrasound and talked to me, explaining the results. They all showed genuine care towards me as a person. It was more than just a job to do the tests for them… they went above and beyond in human compassion. I wasn’t just a number to them.. awesome.

I arrived early for my mammogram and bone density tests. I was greeted by a sweet person behind the desk and then called up for my check in. She was very pleasant and professional. When I was called back for my tests the lady completing my test made the experience an easy and comfortable one. I very much appreciate having all my medical services at MRMC. The staff, ease of service and the wonderful atmosphere portrayed through the cleanliness and professionalism of everyone and everything I came into contact with made my day shorter and I left feeling better than when I arrived.

This review is for the BILLING office only. Had testing done in August, received bill in October-made payment arrangments. Did NOT receive a November statement, when I called in December asking about the statement I was told they had switched over their billing system u0026 I would be getting one soon. In January I made 2 payment that each were double the payment arrangement. February they turned me over to collections. When I called them about this they said they had NO idea why, since they saw my payments--I was promised my account would be escalated and a supervisor would call me back. In April still no call back from anyone even though I called every week u0026 was promised a resolution. In April they called wanting my co-pay of $69.00 for an MRI I was about to have, which I paid over the phone. The MRI ended up getting cancelled. When I tried getting my $69.00 back they said since I had an outstanding bill they had to apply the money to my bill--which I was fine with. Just got my June Statement--my $69.00 from April is no where to be found. Just hung up with billing, getting the same story--someone will call you back these people are either liars or incredibly incompetent.Take your money to a hospital that wont mishandle funds...

Why is this even considered a hospital? They cant even take care of an aspirated lung. What is the point of going to this place, Williamson Medical center had no problems taking care of it only an hour after leaving this place. They really just want to scan you make some money and avoid the rest of the work. This facility needs new staff from the ground up. I’ve been in hospitals where 4 bowls water (metal) placed on the ankles and wrists accompanied by electrified bracelets were used to take an ecg of, me and next to me in an open bay a man was dying of lord knows what, directly across they are doing surgery, some real third world stuff, and they put this place to shame. When moving back everyone told me how horrible this place was, and you say to yourself “they are doctors, they can’t be that incompetent, right?”.They are that incompetent, don’t second guess yourself. If it’s really bad, find a rope and a rafter that will support your weight, it will be cheaper, faster, less to deal with later because of them. It’s incredible, who contracts these doctors? Fire them, please.

Very 1st time at Maury Regional for a CT scan of my lungs/chest on 3/27/22 and was told by receptionist/intake woman I needed to pay $91, my fault for not questioning why!! This is a food order for many struggling people today. I question how this amount was figured, especially if they called my insurance to verify benefits (which evidently wasn’t done) incompetence.I have a Medicare Replacement Plan and they paid EVERYTHING, my portion -0-.My neighbor informed me that I will be lucky if Maury Regional refund’s MY money they owe me. I have called, spoke with a woman in billing who stated it would be looked into. Very dishonorable, deceptive, disgraceful and illegal practices as well as taking advantage of many people in my opinion. I have worked in the credit department of a hospital in another state and this would never, ever be allowed. This has put much distrust in Maury Regional Health Center!!

I want EVERYONE to know of the amazing care, and loving staff they have here at Maury Regional! I had surgery one that I was pretty nervous about, and was referred to Dr Oxley from my primary care doctor.Well let me start off IF you need ANY SURGERY Please do yourself a favor and just go straight to Dr. Oxley at Columbia Surgical Partners in Columbia Tn, he is AMAZING! He explains everything in a way that I not only learned many new things, but I understood what was happening and what needed to be done.NOW For the staff at the hospital, you could not ask for a more caring, loving truly compassionate staff of ladies and gentlemen.I fell in love with everyone there, everyone was so upbeat and smiling, and you could tell they truly care for you. I got many hugs from my nurses that were caring for me, and just loved and really appreciated everything they did for me.NOW lets talk food, and yes I know you hear all the stories of hospital food, but whoever the chef is here I stand to applaud him, I felt like I was at a 5 star hotel, from the beautiful room to the wonderful caring staff and the amazing FOOD, omg they MAKE not store bought they MAKE scratch biscuits and they are better than Cracker barrels biscuits the veggies were all fresh and I even got strawberry shortcake for dessert and it had fresh strawberries, I know you do not go to the hospital for the food, but let me tell you with the excellent care, and loving staff and then to put amazing food on top of that, I was in no hurry to leave :)I know there are always those that stop to leave bad comments, but please I hope that people read mine, because you will be treated with the most love and respect here. They have angels on their staff, and it shows!

Insurance fraud!!!Two years ago I went in for a Covid Test. I was told that I could use my insurance or pay out of pocket. Out of pocket was 50 dollars. The test was free, and the 50 dollars covered the physician visit AND the labs. This is what I was told.A few weeks later, I received a bill for around 12 dollars. I called and inquired about it and was told it was an additonal phyiscian fee, but that if I paid it, my DEBTS WERE PAID OFF.A few months later, Maury Regional started billing my parents insurance for hundreds of dollars. But I didnt give them that info. And I dont know how they got it. And they couldnt even bill them right. They billed the insurance and listed my dad as the patient, but it was my birth year listed. Then they billed the insurance and had me as the patient but it was my dads birth year. Again, I DID NOT GIVE THEM THIS INFO.My parents insurance obviously got involved and said they would cover everything. And they did. Until the hospital sent them more bills. And more bills to me. And my parents. This has dragged on for two years. Every agent for Maury Regional that I, my mom, and her insurance have spoken to have had a different story and have assured us I dont actually owe anything. And then today, they turned me over to debt collections, who I called to dispute this matter, only for them to hang up on me three times, so Ive no choice but to pay a bill that I dont actually owe. This is insurance fruad at its finest.I will be contacting whoever I have to so that this does not go unnoticed. This hospital is dishonest, offers very poor care, and apparently likes to illegally gather and use private information.

Do not go here!!!! When I was having bad pains during pregnancy they told me it could be abnormal or early pregnancy and that they are not going to give me an ultrasound. Then when things got worse I had to go back and found out I had an eptopic pregnancy and the baby damaged my right fallopian tube. If they would’ve gave me the ultrasound when I was first having these problems surgery could’ve been avoided and on top of that when I told them I was going to go somewhere else and get a second opinion the doctor told me if I was to get in a car accident or get stopped by traffic that it would be death for me. That’s exactly why I didn’t trust him with my life and went somewhere else.

My latest experience with this hospital was terrible. I had a serious surgery and should have been kept longer. The discharge nurses were terrible. I was sent home with a catheter and was given zero instruction on how to care for it, how to care for myself. They didn’t tell me any lifting limits, things I could do or not do. They basically throw you out as soon as they can. I didn’t know anything when I left there on what I could or couldn’t do. I had to google any questions I had. Very unprofessional. 2 days later had to go back to the ER, another mistake I made. This hospital has declined drastically and people would be better off going somewhere else. I ended up at the ER twice and in the hospital twice within 1 1/2 weeks. I’m starting week 3 and having major complications still. I called my Dr. On call number and they were less helpful that a complete stranger would have been. Stay away from here.

This is my first time ever posting to a review. I’m a lifelong Columbia, TN resident born at MRMC.After a recent visit to the ER on 01/05/2021, I was discouraged at the lack of compassion, sometimes lack of knowledge, and general apathy toward patients I experienced from many employees. I left feeling worse than when I went in. And unfortunately this is becoming the normal workforce everywhere……most (not all) simply have no drive to serve. Hospital leadership please take note to this trend, and actively work to improve the services at MRMC.

Can be slow. Staff is nice and attentive however billing can be pushy. They are never slow to come get money. The billing I was told is directed that VA is always secondary which means they will not pay so bill comes back to you. So if you use VA and have any other insurance go somewhere else. Good luck trying to get resolved with billing later. So I guess that is way the hospital director at Maury says thank you for your service. If not a vet and have no insurance good news as signs everywhere you are treated for free! Again to the hospital director who I was told is the one directing this policy your welcome....

My dad has received excellent care there so far. The nursing staff has been very thorough in reviewing the plan of treatment with us and we received a phone call at home from the doctor reviewing his case. The covid visitor protocol there seems to be structured around common sense by being as cautious as possible where necessary but also by allowing minimal visitors when possible. Im particular about the care of my loved ones and I have been in healthcare for many years so I know how to recognize good care. I was impressed by how well they are coping during this covid surge without patient care suffering. Great job Maury Regional Staff! I also want to say...when reading the comments...please keep in mind that there are times that negative reviews will be posted but a hospital cannot reply due to HIPAA laws so they cannot defend themselves against the negative posts. There may be a good reason that someone had a 3 hour ER wait time...they may have came in for something that was not a true emergency and the staff had other TRUE emergencies to deal with such as heart attacks, etc. Not judging any reviews previously posted just saying keep this in mind when reading publicly posted reviews of any healthcare facility.

My Mom, age 80 was taken to the hospital last night 10/20/21 by ambulance. She has COPD, an ulcer and an aneurysm. She arrived at the hospital complaining that her stomach was hurting, taken to triage and the PA in emergency told her she was not an emergency plus told my Mom that the primary care she had listed was not her primary and sent her home without an examination. This is crazy. so, I guess now unless you have COVID-19 or Heart attack you are no longer worth the time and effort it takes to complete a full examination. I realize the hospital is full and the staff is overworked. But this lady begged family to call 911 and take the ride from Hohenwald to Columbia in the middle of the night. I should have just dealt with it myself or driven to Williamson County. One hour in the ER included 2 minutes with the attending physician, an XRay, and ace bandages applied by the nurse which apparently costs almost $2K. I finally paid off the first $1500 bill after being told by billing that I would go to collections if I applied for financial aid and that my option for a payment plan was at least $119 a month, no less.. then I get slapped with a $400 bill for those 2 minutes with the attending physician the DAY after I pay off the $1500. No explanation, nothing. This was the only way she was able to get updates, changes in health stability and changes and probably medication as well. She is unable to get in contact with the doctors. I had inpatient surgery a couple of years ago and everything was perfect from start to finish and I wrote a glowing review. However, yesterday I had outpatient surgery and it was the worst medical experience in my life. Everything was perfectly fine until I was brought to my recovery room. Then everything went downhill. I was told I would be released when I was able to drink, eat, and urinate. I was unable to do the latter. I drank several soft drinks, water, coffee, IV, and felt like I was going to burst my bladder but I was unable to urinate. I tried walking up and down the hall, poured warm water on my privates, held my hand in warm water but nothing worked. With my bladder about to burst, my nurse decided to call my doctor after I threatened to leave. He refused to leave me because it was too dangerous. He instructed the nurse to insert a catheter. Another nurse said she was going to let my nurse perform the procedure because she hadnt done one in a while and needed the experience experience. She began jabbing the tube within me and I began to feel immense pain. I yelled and screamed for her to stop and withdraw the tube. She finally did. The doctor still refused to release me. I was ready to leave and if I was unable to urinate at home Id go to the ER. He said it was too dangerous. I dont know why the more experienced nurse didnt attempt the procedure. Fortunately an OR nurse was on his way home and they stopped him and asked him to assist them. He applied a cream and comforted me. Although it was uncomfortable he was able to insert the tube painlessly. I still have pain and bleeding from the first attempt. I was told I would go home with the catheter a few days and to have my Urologist take it out. I spent 7 hours in recovery and was only given pain medication when I first entered the room. I said I was in pain. I had a large incision on my abdomen and was only given more medication 7 hours later. My BP, Pulse Rate, Oxygen, and Temp was taken only once when I came into recovery. No one told me what was discovered in my exploratory surgery or my condition. I was anxious, fearful, and angry because no one would explain anything to me. I was worried about my kidneys. When I was sent home I didnt sign any discharge papers. I wasnt told how to care for my incisions or what activities I could or couldnt perform. Ive had a dozen surgeries and as many hospital stays. This was by far my worst medical experience ever. After this, I am very hesitant of having another outpatient surgery performed at Maury Regional. This is the first time Ive had to write a bad report and regret having to do so.

On April 21st I was rushed to MRH by ambulance. Blood pressure was over 200. I along with my husband told the e.r. doctor that it felt like my leg was being squeezed off inch by inch. She kept giving me pain meds that never touched the pain. We told her that the meds was doing nothing each and every time. We asked if it could be a blood clot but she said I was too young and refused to go any further with it but made sure she kept giving me pain meds . 7 hours later after my leg was turning purple a new doctor came in and rushed me to get a ultrasound for leg. The ultrasound tech was the one that found the arterial blood clot. The surgeon said he would probably have to amputate my leg because it had been without blood flow for so long. Thankfully he didnt have to amputate but he did have to cut my leg open on both sides so it could swell. There was absolutely no reason why the e.r doctor left me for 7 hours and did nothing. I do not recommend the doctor in the e.r. Once out of the e.r and after surgery everyone else was absolutely amazing.

ER nurses are rude!! After being told by my doctor to get to the closest ER as fast as possible, I ended up, against my better judgment, at Maury Regional. I was hemorrhaging and losing a lot of blood. I sat in the waiting room in pain that had me doubled over and barely able to walk. I was not offered a wheelchair or help walking back and forth to the restroom every 10-15 (no exaggeration). I sat in front of the unit secretary crying due to the immense pain for over 4 hours. When I asked if she could give me an idea of how long it would take to even be triaged, I was told they were busy and would get to me when they could (meanwhile I am losing a lot of blood and can no longer stand upright due to the pain). Finally a charge nurse came out and told me “we are taking the people who don’t really have anything wrong with them in first so we can clear the board, but people like you who are really sick are having to wait because we don’t have room for you. It could be another 4-6 hours before we can see you”. It was at this time that I left, had my father drive me to Williamson Medical Center. I was greeted with a smile, triaged within 5 minutes and in an exam room within 15. This doctor got in contact with my primary physician and I was stabilized, set up with an appointment for the next morning. And my pain was stabilized as well. All of this, including drive time from Columbia, took just under 2 hours!! Amazing!!!! Dr. Andy Russell deserves major praise.

They need to be reminded, if youre going to service your community in such a small town, word spreads quickly. Im spreading that word. The hospital is filthy dirty. Jails Ive worked are cleaner. If you love yourself and family, drive the extra distance north to Williamson or Nashville. Go to this dump, your loved one will end up dead. Ive noticed in other reviews similar complaints. Nursing care is below standard. Everyone plays on their phone, waited two hours for crackers for my son being told a dinner tray was ordered. 4 hours later he got a soggy something. Ive also noticed the responses other reviews have gotten are only to those who, for some miraculous reason, didnt review anything negative. How about responding and acknowledging those who received substandard care?

Even if you pay them diligently every month, they will still turn you over to collections. They fail to communicate this to you and you will end up getting demands from more than one collector with no idea which one is legit and who is the scammer and how did they get this information? Writing Maury does no good. They ignore you.

I had to go to the emergency room on February 28. I thought my wait was a little too long, but once I was moved to the back, I could not have asked for better care. My nurse was Eddie, and he was great! I cant remember my techs name (Holly??), but she was really sweet. I appreciate how quickly the staff worked to diagnose my condition and make sure that I was comfortable. Biggest complaint has nothing to do with the quality of care: My bill was outrageous!!! I am thankful that I have decent insurance.

I have read many of the comments posted about Maury Regional. Most of it is financial based. I understand the frustration that some people may feel when they get a $40,000 or $100,000 bill for having your life saved. It can be an unobtainable goal to pay those sorts of debts off without insurance, uninsurable, or various other issues that people deal with day to day. I can tell you we as a country will figure out that problem sooner than later. There are so many smart people and minds thinking about that issue than people know. Obamacare was a failed start to the problem. But what do we learn from ... Our failures. The fact that the president of this great country and yes even Hillary were paying attention to the issue means we have a problem. Much like we have COVID-19 now. The problem and brains are at work. I have front line experience on this matter.Back to Maury Regional. They have the best nursing staff you can ever imagine. They work so hard, are incredibly intelligent and deal with really hard and sometimes very difficult issues that the human body can produce. They handle it with grace, respect, and make you comfortable in sometimes very hard and humbling times in your life.Doctors are a different breed of person, butI can tell you I know several of them personally and there are some very gifted and kind Doctors at Maury Regional. Dr. Choksi comes to mind. Brilliant man and a bedside manner that is so good considering the amount of pressure these doctors endure everyday.Sorry for the long post.... I call them brain dumps. If you have a nurse in your life, or blessed enough to be married to one, give them a hug or a kiss and respect these angels on earth.

My step daughter was in CCU for a few days because of a very sensitive issue. The nurse Jean that shes had on day shift the last 2 days is terrible. Our family had to speak with the charge nurse about switching nurses after my child on a ventilator vommitted on herself nurse Jean did not try to clean her up, left her sitting in her vomit stating it happens. The first thing my daughter wrote on paper when she woke up was that her nurse is so rude to her. Her heart rate jumped sky high every time that woman walked in the room. This is after she was rude to our family in the room and to me on the phone. Needless to say they didnt change nurses, or speak to her about her attitude, she was rude on the phone again when I called today. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately for them, I am in Texas so theres not much I could do from here. The nursing staff is my only way of checking on my child, they are my lifeline to her. I am a nurse myself and understand the struggles of patient care and family dynamics. But theres no excuse for this behavior, and shame on the charge for not recognizing and not doing something about it when it was brought to her attention. Im not happy at all do not send your loved ones here.

I would say that after watching some of the nurses and techs on the Orthopedic floor give care to my grandmother who had just had a hip replacement that they could really use classes/training on compassion/empathy, or just being kind to the patient and families. The physical therapy department and surgeon were the only people that we had a good experience with. Most of the techs we encountered seemed to be in a rush, wouldnt answer questions, were rough when assisting her out of bed. You would assume that they were very busy but when I stepped into the hall, one that had been very rude to us was now sitting at the desk on her phone. When we called for pain medication and it had been 35 minutes we asked the tech if she happened to know if the nurse got our message and she replied I dont know, I think shes busy, shes probably in another room. Whereas she could have easily said, hang on I will go find out for you and get you some help. It also took 45 minutes to receive anti nausea medicine after vomiting. I know nurses and staff are busy and if I thought that was the case I wouldnt be writing this review, but I honestly felt with their terrible attitudes that they may need to find a job where they are not directly giving patient care. Patients are there because of surgery, or being sick, etc, the last thing they need are rude caregivers. I would recommend in the future to family and friends if they need to be inpatient at a hospital to please travel further north for their care.

I am typing this as I sit in an ER room with my wife. 3 minutes ago was the 5 hour mark from our arrival. She came by ambulance for a seizure that stopped her breathing twice. She returned to normal before the ambulance left our house, but we still wanted to see a doctor since this was unusual (no history of seizures). We are waiting (u003E2hours) for a neurologist to call over a webcam since they dont have one available in person. There are very few patients currently, and the staff have been socializing amongst themselves for the entire time, not medical related. We are getting no updates or being checked up on hardly at all. My entire family has had negative experiences with this place. I personally recommend Tri Star, as we have had overall better experiences. The staff seem nice in general, but that carries no weight over the amount of pointless waiting we have done. Go somewhere else unless you are literally dying fast and nowhere else is closer.

At first I was hesitant to take my mother to a regional hospital, but we were pleasantly surprised at the high level of care she received there. The nurses and aides were very attentive and supportive. The doctors were there each day, morning and night, to talk to us and their patient. Very clean facility and large private rooms. I would definitely go there myself and would recommend it to others.

I typically dont leave reviews either, because I know the circumstances people deal with in the service industry. However bringing my girlfriend to the ER was eye opening to how truly awful this place is. She passed out, and hit her head at home, potentially getting a concussion. She told them she was having issues breathing, seeing, difficulties all around. We were sent to a waiting room where we waited for two hours, then sent back to another waiting room where we waited for half an hour, then we were taken to a room finally(all of the rooms are opened and there were maaaybe four people in the waiting room). We get into our room, talk to a doctor. After an hour someone comes in to talk to us about a bill? Shouldnt we be discussing what has happened? If someone fell and hit their head and now they are dizzy and having issues seeing be looked into? Anyways this man comes in asking how we would like to pay, and after waiting another ten minutes, they finally send someone in. Its really made me realize why the health care industry needs to be shaken from the ground up. Theyre more concerned with racking up costs than serving the people in danger.

If I could give a -10 I would. I went to the ER after having dental work done and after a month, pain is unbearable and dentist continues to say that it is normal. I told them I felt like my jaw was broken or severely infected and told them I was dizzy and felt as though I was going to pass out. I was led to a room without a bed, it had a gynecology bed in it and it had blood all over it. Finally an NP came in with an attitude, I had to go through the same story for the 4th time and me in pain, after digging around in my mouth and me in severe pain, she tells me, “we’re not dentists, we don’t do anything involving teeth”. I told her I wasn’t there about my teeth, I was there about the jaw! I told her I needed to know if my jaw was broken or if I had an infection. She said, “I repeat, we’re not dentists”. I pointed out the blood on the chair they expected me to sit on and her reply was, “I’m not involved in housekeeping but her or the nurse either made an offer to contact housekeeping. I told her I wasn’t surprised at the nastiness after my husband spent 7 days there and his room was cleaned once and I walked out before I caught something. Stay away from this place!!

First time ever having a child out of state. Im from Michigan and the health care there is awesome so i know what to expect from doctors and nurses. Well i delivered a child on 8/28/18 at maury regional and the nurse and doctor staff is not what i expected. They are not attentive to you or the newborn. Even after a c section. My nurse staff only came in every 2 1/2 -3 hours to check on me and baby. After my c section i had to wait 24 hrs to showers of course. After me doing that i waited 7 hours for a nurse to ask me did i remove the dressing and to check my steri-strips for the sight. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. I think of it as a long stay urgent care. I really dislike that i feel this way about a place where is supposed to help and take care of you. Sad situation. They are only here for a check.

This was the worst experience Ive ever had. I went to the ER at 9:45 that morning and was taken back to a room at about 11:30 or so. Everything started out well and the nurses were very nice. I had a really bad stomach virus and was very dehydrated. They gave me a CT scan and and ultrasound to check and see if I was having gallbladder or appendix issues. After 9 hours of sitting in an ER room I finally saw my doctor who was just a nurse practitioner, who told me all my tests turned out fine and that I just had a stomach bug, but my blood pressure was a little low, (still in normal range it was 105/68), so she was going to admit me. Me, whom is usually a very calm understanding person, got extremely angry because not only had I been waiting 9 hours for 2 measly tests but I was being told I was GOING to be admitted by my doctor that I had only seen for a total of 30 seconds. I told her I was NOT staying another moment but then I was informed that if I signed out against doctors wishes that my insurance wouldnt cover the visit. So I asked her that if I was indeed dehydrated why I couldnt hydrate myself at home. To which she replied, yeah sure you could do it at home but it wouldnt work as fast So she wasnt going to sign for me to leave. So I was basically forced to stay against my will because I couldnt afford to pay a hospital bill. The care up stairs was very nice by the nurses once again, but by the time I was allowed to leave the next day at about 2 pm, they had given me 6 bags of iv fluid and my blood pressure still was the exact same and I literally was so over hydrated I tried to get up out of my bed after sleeping twice, and both times literally peed all over myself because I was so OVER hydrated and my body couldnt hold it in anymore. My blood pressure was obviously fine 105/68 is actually a great blood pressure but it was slightly below my normal which no one stopped to think about how it was maybe because I was sick and had been in bed all day. I will never go back to this hospital ever. If I had had a serious condtion it might have died because someone was so concerned about a 10 point difference in blood pressure. My time was completely wasted and the care by the ER nurse practitioner was unacceptable. I am in college to go into the medical field and this so so below standard of care.

Id like to preface this by saying I really dislike leaving negative reviews of places. Im only posting this because I think its important that people know about my experience.I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve, which eventually resulted in aortic stenosis. Additionally, until august 19th, I was pregnant (yes my name is really John no I am not male). In my second trimester it was determined by my cardiologist that my aortic stenosis had become extremely severe. The night of August 10th, I began to experience decently strong chest pains and tightness, as well as some difficulty breathing. I went to the Maury Regional ER and said, verbatim, I am 32 weeks pregnant, I have severe aortic stenosis, and I am experiencing chest pain.I was admitted with no sense of urgency. They did an EKG, blood work, and a CT scan (during which I nearly fainted within a minute of having to lay flat) but didnt find anything in particular. They came to the conclusion that my symptoms were regular pregnancy symptoms and sent me home after a roughly 3 hour visit with instructions to follow up with my OB. The diagnoses on my discharge papers were dyspnea (difficulty breathing) and pregnancy.I contacted my Vanderbilt cardiologist and let her know what happened, and she wanted to see me ASAP. By that Thursday, my symptoms had gotten progressively worse. Standing for more than a few minutes gave me chest tightness and mild pain, and I couldnt do anything close to exerting myself. When I talked to my cardiologist about it, she was alarmed that I had been sent home, and immediately sent me to the main Vanderbilt campus.Ultimately it was determined I needed a c-section as quickly as possible, that my symptoms were extremely troubling, and that there was a risk of death or emergency heart surgery with the procedure. I had my c-section on the 19th with not only the normal delivery team and anesthesiologists, but also a cardiology team on standby. Luckily it went well, but I also had to have a balloon valvuloplasty done slightly over a week later and spent a total of almost two weeks in the hospital overall.Had I trusted the emergency room staff and written off my symptoms as being pregnancy related, I likely would have been in an even riskier situation, if not possibly dead. I know that Im young and tend to mask pain well, but not being taken seriously at this hospital could have cost me my life. Im sure Maury Regional is capable of handling more minor cases, but if you think something may be seriously wrong, Id recommend going elsewhere.
