I misplaced my dog and she was taken to the Humane Society by a kind individual. I got her back quickly and easily and we were both pleased by the caring treatment and efficient service. Thanks CMHS

This place is amazing! Once a month they offer a vaccination, microchip, spay and neuter clinic with very affordable prices. In addition, to other programs you can pull-up one a month and they will give you a very large bag of dry dog food (all brands, depending on donations) and upon request and availability moist canned food. I have only received dog food, but Im guessing they do it for cats as well.

Scheduled an appoint for the next day to meet this handsome guy and about 30 minutes later i paid 30 bucks, thanks to their block head block party special discount, they handed me a bag of food his medicine for the next few days, his chip info, and a pamphlet for signing up for insurance and sent me on my way. This big guy is enjoying his home so far. Hes well mannered and just what i need at this point in time in my life right now. Thank you so much guys!!

Adopted this silly girl (Luna Bean) from CMHS in July and could not have asked for a more seamless process. When the time comes, I will definitely adopt from them again!

We had to take our fur baby girl in to get fixed and all the bells and whistles. She is not a very socialized girl so she was not very happy our friendly to the guy who was there working. He was supper friendly and did a great job making friends with her. He realized how afraid she was and knew allot was from the dogs barking and had us move around to the back where it wasnt as noisy. We all had concerns about her behavior and he did everything to help us all threw the ordeal. She got to have her procedure and all is well. Its been a few days and shes doing well. I got my dog spayed told them she was in heat they went ahead with surgery took her home the next day she couldn’t walk brought her back in told me her temperature had dropped I needed to take her home put heating pads on her never once checked to make sure she wasn’t bleeding inside. Got home with her something didn’t seem right called my vet took her in to my vet he found she was bleeding inside had emergency surgery. Humane Society had caused this and just wanted me to put it off on someone else . Come to find out you shouldn’t get your dog spayed while in heat due to the complications and bleeding if I would of waited until to morning my baby girl wouldn’t be here .... I do not recommend getting your dog fixed with humane Society they don’t take owner ship when a mistake has happened take your pet to your vet these people do not care

I have gotten 2 of my fur babies here and had the neutering for my other two done here as well. The staff show great concern for the animals. I will always come here for adoptions and to get my pets fixed.

Stephanie the manager there was very unkind and unprofessional. She told me she would be taking the cat back because I set up an appointment and they couldn’t do it today and they would call animal control on me. Tired of the bs service. Don’t go here. Worst customer service by Stephanie.

We adopted our dog bodhi from the central missouri humane society and they were super helpful and nice. However, when I specifically asked if bodhi had any medical problems, they said not that they know of, but after going through the adoption process they sent us his records and we come to find out he has a chronic fractured incisor and kennel cough. We were aware they sell dogs with some health issues, but still disappointing that we asked multiple times, they said he didnt, but it was in the papers that they specifically had that he did.

Great place filled with great people taking care of animals trying to help them find a good home! Very comfortable atmosphere ended up adopting a pair of cats that day. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable even the volunteers.Please dont forget to donate food when you can to your local animal shelter.

The way you got our dog was not only strong arm robbery but also extortion....not only are we in the middle of a world wide pandemic, but stealing from the disabled is not the way things should be done! Very disappointed, because not only was I stuck here during the shut down, but shots lapsed because of lack of services available....but, hey, you got your money...$58...which is not what your website stated, either...lies, robbery, and extortion....BEWARE PUBLIC OF COLUMBIA...they will take your dog and then charge for the return! Nicely done!

The staff seem to truly enjoy the animals and want them to have a great place to live out their lives. I love that they send you home with a sample bag of the food your new pet has been eating, as well as a voucher for a free vet visit from a large variety of local veterinary clinics. The fee you pay for your pet includes vaccinations, a spay or neuter, and a microchip. A true bargain price for your new furry family member!

The humane society does amazing work bringing in cats and dogs to provide them with a loving home.I adopted Benny on MLK day of 2019 and adopting him has been the second greatest decision if my life. Nearly every dog comes micro-chipped, spayed/neutered, and with a beginning supply of dog food!Everyone should get their dog for the humane society. It will change your life and theirs!

I just adopted a dog in January. He is very high energy, and needed a buddy. The sraff was very accommodating. Even though short staffed, they were happy to provide a large pen with a staff member, where Rocky could meet and great his prospective buddy, to make sure they were compatible.It worked beautifully, and now we have Rocky and Woody. They get along like two peas in a pod.I have adopted dogs from them in the past before, too (Im old). You can see and spend time with several prospects to see if the dog (or cat) is right for you.

Adopted a FABULOUS dog on 5/8/15. Staff was very helpful in helping me choose a dog that would fit in with our needs and lifestyle. It is very apparent the staff has a lot of experience and really cares about the welfare of each animal and wants to find each one the perfect home. I never felt any pressure about a decision, everyone was very understanding of my situation. I worked with Kelley and she was very helpful and answered all my questions. And I had a lot! For surrendered dogs, they obtain information about the dogs temperament and physical issues to help the adopter. The dogs get a complete physical, including blood work, so they can detect problems that may not be immediately apparent. I was very impressed with the staffs professionalism and obvious dedication. I believe this is the key to how successful they are - their people!One word of warning, dont go there unless you are ready to come home with a FABULOUS new family member! I highly recommend! I went to bring a dog here that was abandoned at my house and i had left my wallet at home. I told the lady i was going to go check my truck to see if it was in there, but on my way to the truck this guy covered in tattoos comes out screaming profanities at me about how I cant abandon the dog there, and threatening to call the cops. Total jerk and very unprofessional. The director lady already knew I was coming out to look for my wallet and the guy just made assumptions and accusations that I was some horrible animal abuser and was abandoning the dog. Screw that guy. There are many people who would love to work there, and would be a little more professional and courteous.

They are doing hard work here and always represent their animals well and answer every question. By their application and the questions they ask back, you can tell they truly care that the animals end up in a good home.

Theyre great. What really sets them apart is that they dont refuse any animals, unlike some other shelters. The dogs and cats here are super sweet and friendly, and its also really easy to volunteer here and make a difference in the animals lives. I was a volunteer photographer here and I just absolutely adored the dogs I got to interact with (I shared a few pictures of dogs that have since been adopted), but theyre given space and they are well loved, even if they always act attention starved. The volunteers and staff really care about the well-being of the animals here.

The Central Missouri Humane Society is a truly amazing organization. The staff is friendly and professional, and you can tell how deeply they care for every animal in their facility.I adopted my cat from there 3 and a half years ago and my dog 2 years ago, and everyone was so helpful and excited in helping me find the perfect pets for my life. The adoption fees are great considering all of the vetting they come with, and as someone with a major weakness for senior dogs, I really appreciate the reduced fees on older pets.CMHS is a wonderful organization staffed by people who are incredibly passionate about what they do. Thank you all for your years of hard work and for the stellar jobs you do each and every day!

They provide personalized care for each animals need to be sure they will be a great addition to their new forever home. They are a no kill facility so some will be place with an animal rescue if not adoptable. Columbia has a great animal shelter.

I had to put down my senior 15 year old dog I had for 9 1/2 years. I went on CMHs website and saw a dog I was interested in. Visited the dog, liked him, filled out app. Was approved and and now have a wonderful dog that I named Duke. We are acclimating fine together, and this shelter gave him all his shots, neutered him, and provided me with lots of coupons, and free vet visit for adopting. My previous dog was a rescue.They both are well trained animals. This shelter does a great job. Thank you CMH, my heart is healing from the loss of other dog.

Great experience, came home with a new furever four footer.. They told me exactly what paperwork I needed to bring, when I called ahead. They also gave me a chance to meet and greet without any hassle. They sent medication home for her to finish, and they helped me pick the dog up because she was scared to get into vehicle. Watch for specials, on reduced adoption fees when shelter gets filled up.

I tried to get a sweet chihuahua and the process was very reasonable. Because I lived outside of the county, they would call my countys assessors office and give me a call when they had proof I owned a home. She got adopted by the time they could call the assessors office. I appreciated that they made sure she had a respective home.

They helped me get a feral cat spayed that was too wild for a regular vet to handle!

Really appreciate what theyre doing for the community. I wish more people would look at the animals they have in there before they get a puppy or kitten. They also provide great services for pets.

They are always there for us. They take in lost animals. Fix them, make sure they get healthy, so they can go home to a nice home. The people working there are caring. That means alot to us.

I applied for a pet online and was called about my application within two hours! Unfortunately that was the best part of my experience, the employee who called me needed permission to bring the dog onto my property (as she was a foster dog not staying at the facility) from the owner of my property, since I could not give that permission immediately because of extenuating circumstances the employee said that we couldnt start the application process till they had permission, but I was the FIRST applicant, and curtly ended the conversation as it was a weekend and they were understandably busy.After I thought about it I called them back and had to leave a message asking if I could first meet the dog at the humane society, NO one called me back. Then when they obtained permission from the owner over the phone the employee informed said property owner that my application still needed to be approved (four days after I sent it in) but still implied that someone would call me the next day to set up a meeting!So the next day my sister was at the humane society looking for a second dog for her family and noticed that someone was meeting with the dog I applied for at the humane society, an option NOT given to me. The dog was adopted a day after I was informed I could meet her. They took her off the adoptable dogs page of the site and I never received any phone calls, not in response to my message, and not the call to meet the dog.I am very happy that the dog has a home but not over-joyed in the way I was strung along, being told I was the first applicant, then being told I could meet the dog when clearly another appointment had been set up. Information that was neve supplied to me by the humane society, I only know about all of this by chance.

They took my precious cats in from Pet Safe who, after signing a contract, would not keep them. Even though they were almost full, they were kind, endured my crying, and was very kind to me and Summer & Cassie. If I owned a home I would have adopted more pets from them! Great place!!!!!

1,688 miles and 26 hours of our time wasted.My friend found out about a Blue Heeler puppy that was available for adoption at the shelter. Even though it was so far away, she wanted to support a shelter dog instead of a puppy mill, so we set off for Missouri. She had been in communication with a worker at the shelter and was told that the puppy would be held for her. What they failed to mention was the small $25 dollar hold fee which she would have been glad to pay. So, we arrived at the shelter as soon as it opened only to find that the puppy had been adopted to someone else YESTERDAY. The worker knew how far we were driving and failed to even let us know that it had been adopted. My friend of course was devastated and I was pissed, not particularly at the shelter, but at the rude man she was dealing with. We tried to make the best of the situation and adopt another puppy, but since it could only be released the next day it was not possible. To say I am disappointed is an understatement in the least.I am still very pro shelter adoption, but please be careful if you are driving a distance.

Ok I have three cat from here so I’m giving it a 5 star bc I loveeeeeeee my fur babies thank you guys sooooo much I reallyyyyyy want one more her name is Snowy Owl I love her sooooo much she is 4 months old I can’t have her sadly....but hopefully I can visit her if she is still there I have no idea when I will be able to visit her but she is not in a foster home I sure do love the humain society

Decent facility for the animals, however, the workers/volunteers have no idea what they are doing. It is frustrating when you ask a question about a specific animals behaviors and they have no idea. I understand there are a lot of animals there, but at least know the animals you do have there. I also do not like that they willingly adopt animals out to anyone. They do not do home checks like most shelters do which I find alarming. The staff has zero patience and are very rude at the front desk.

It was a very high quality place! any animal would be lucky to stay there... I recently adopted a kitten from there and it was very tamed and sweet :)

Please do not bring your dogs here to be spayed/neutered. My poor pup came home with fleas AND kennel cough. I wasnt upset about the fleas at first because that could have come from another dog brought in that day; but to get kennel cough as well? They must not keep a clean facility.

My husband and I came in to adopt a dog. We were very serious about adopting, even bringing in our existing pup to meet and see if she could get along with anyone. The employee who was assisting people in the dog runs pointed out the faults of all the dogs we were interested in. When we were playing with a puppy she (the employee) got extremely aggressive and verbally abusive towards my husband and I about handling puppies. I left in tears.When I called later to talk to someone in authority about adopting the puppy, and to let someone know about the experience we had the person at the front desk was not helpful, nor sympathetic, or willing to correct the problem.If you would like to deal with people who are compassionate and kind and intrested in setting families up with fur babies, go elsewhere.

Absolutly horrible experience. Poor communication about adopting a dog. Was very set on adopting a certain dog from them. I asked to put her on hold and I would be back to get her the next day. She was not put on hold and she was adopted by someone else. Very rude when I asked to speak to a manager over the phone, got hung up on. I, nor anyone I know, will be returning to this shelter. Was a very stressful experience.

My granddaughter adopted a dog from CMHS, he was defiantly out of control. The next morning he attached her for no apparent reason. She thought he was going to break her wrist he had such a tight grip on it. She had scratches all up and down her arms .of course, she couldnt keep him so she took him back within twelve hours. They would not give her her money back, she could get another dog! They put the dog back on the floor for adoption while we were there. I guess he was adopted again and returned again, he appeared on the website twice after we took him back. Why wont give people back their money when the animal is out of control? She was treated rudely when we took him back, they acted like it was her fault. Shes been around dogs and cats since day one. Another friend adopted a dog from them, turned out he had parvovirus, they wouldnt let her get her money back either.

Great customer service. Our family adopted a dog from the CMHS. A few days later he began sneezing out huge green loogies. Their on-site vet was able to see us the next day, diagnosed him with kennel cough, and gave us medicine to cure him - for free.

Had two cats found and returned by this humane society. Also got them shots and micro chips thro cmhs for very low price next to nothing for the piece of mind. Thanks CMHS
