I went to Centerstone on and off as a child and then again as a teenager, seeing the same counselor. My experience and review are specific to my counselor, but address issues that I have had and that others I know and love have had with Centerstone. I have not been to their facility in several years though, so my experience may be outdated. I hope that their techniques have evolved and progressed over these last several years, but you will need to do your own research and due diligence in that regard. When I was a child, I considered talk therapy with my counselor at this facility to be semi-helpful in understanding how I felt about different trauma and experiences and in working through those emotions. However, I learned more helpful coping techniques as a child from the domestic violence shelters childrens program than from this facility. My counselor mostly focused on talk therapy and pointing out how different situations made me feel. When I went back as a teenager, I was put with the same counselor that I saw as a child. I felt resentful because she talked to me like I was still a child, and honestly, talk therapy is not what I needed at that time. My therapy during this time was also when I discovered that my mom had told my therapist about trauma that I had not personally opened up to my therapist about. That felt like a breach of trust and made me trust and respect my therapist even less. Seeing a different therapist as a teenager would have been much more beneficial. If you are looking for talk therapy, I would say that Centerstone does a decent job of this. If you are looking for specific techniques to work through your mental health needs, then I would recommend going somewhere else. Personally, I would look for a qualified provider with expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I feel like that kind of therapy is really beneficial in gaining necessary skills to work through emotions and other issues.

First I have an awesome counselor but as counselors are they can only be as good as you allow them to be. You have to help yourself too. The med nurse that I have leaves a lot to be desired. She wont take my list of current meds and she refuses to listen to me, plus she complains about the all the meds I have problems with. Shes very short with me too. It is her job to find meds that work not gripe about my issues with med interactions and that I have issues with too many meds. Guess she dont like a challenge.
