The drive-through blood testing lab is excellent: I had non-fasting blood test orders from my doctor in the system, and just drove up to the lab tent. I was immediately checked in, and then drove through the large tent to an adjacent parking space. The phlebotomist came out of the tent, masked and gloved, with a rolling cart with all equipment necessary for a blood draw: 1, 2, 3 and I was on my way home. I never had to leave my car. This drive-through lab for blood tests is a terrific idea! Kudos to whoever thought of doing it!

Im only posting this review on the laboratory page because Memorial doesnt seem to have a general hospital review page on Google. On September 21st, my mother was rushed into emergency surgery to have 2 feet of her colon removed at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. The surgery went well and she went on to recovery. However, because has documented PTSD and anxiety (especially involving hospitals), my father wanted to stay the night with her to help keep her calm. Memorial Hospitalโ€™s visitation policies state that visitation hours are from 8a-8p, but exceptions can be made by the house supervisor nurse for end-of-life situations, and patients suffering from mental illness. With my mom having a diagnosed mental illness, my father requested an exception from the head supervisor nurse to stay overnight with my mother. When my father met with the house supervisor nurse, he explained the situation that my mother had documented PTSD, to which the house supervisor nurse replied โ€œYeah, well that doesnโ€™t count. Our rules cannot be adjusted whatsoverโ€. He then asked who was in charge of the policies and exceptions, to which she played dumb and said โ€œI have no ideaโ€ and then refused to let my father stay with her and refused to escalate the situation any further.Later that day, one of the nurses went into my motherโ€™s room and asked if she had any suicidal thoughts. Her exact words โ€œYou can tell me, itโ€™s just between usโ€. Because of previous medical issues, she said she had in the past. The charge nurse (who was secretly waiting outside the door) immediately removed all her belongings (including her phone she had been using to call my father for support, which they ripped out of her hand) and stripped her down to be in a special gown and put her on suicide protocol. She then had a panic attack because of the PTSD and they were not accommodating. The next day, my motherโ€™s psychiatrist said that he would be willing to contact the house supervisor about my motherโ€™s PTSD, but she then relayed through her nursing staff โ€œDonโ€™t even bother. It wonโ€™t make a differenceโ€ and refused to take the call. He has said that this experience has set her back at least 6 months in her mental health recovery.I then filed a complaint with the patient representative. This person told me they put her on suicide protocol because she had told the nursing staff if they didnt let my dad stay overnight, she would kill herself. My mother denies this. And the next day when my father talked to the patient rep, they claimed they never said that to me. We have a recording of this. Once the patient representative was told she was being recorded, she turned hostile and said โ€œWell, ya know, I donโ€™t even need to be hereโ€ and her demeanor remained defensive and conflicting for the remainder of the entire conversation. My mom told her entire story to the patient representative and she basically said โ€œWell, we donโ€™t careโ€This was escalated to the hospital senior staff (who I was told were very busy working on their Joint Commission accreditation, which is up for renewal this week) and they still declined my fatherโ€™s request to stay. This is after they had seen my mom have PTSD episodes the night before. There were no mental health experts on the review board who declined. Basically, my dad provided a solution to help my mother AND the hospital staff, they denied it, and it inflicted further mental trauma on my mother. No one from the hospital has apologized or said anything other than that they decline the exception.

The man who drew my blood yesterday was very nice and didnt cause any excess pain. Its hard to find my veins, I stop bleeding, and I have lots of scar tissue from IVs and blood draws. So as you can guess Im always a little hesitant when it comes to lab work,he did a great job.
