Heres the updated review for the ones that read the last one, I want to give a shout out to my hairdresser Natasha for coming through with fixing and color correcting the first outcome. You can see the difference in the pictures from the first try to the second one. Shes also super friendly, nice and creative plus shes also great with haircuts. I got a super beautiful layered haircut that goes really well with the hidden color, forgot to take a picture of the whole hair but Im super happy with the end result. Thank you Natasha!

If you want a boring unfashionable hair cut, go to Bananas. The few times I have gotten a hair cut there, its been completely devoid of style, independently of what I have requested. They dont take into consideration how the cut might frame the face or how they might make it more interesting. Its always the same predictable layer cut. Both Katie and Kathleen will give you that cut, but from among the two, Katie is the better stylist. She does pay attention to how the cut might work with the face, and she knows how to cut bangs - if I were just reviewing her, four stars for her ability to at least give you a professional cut that works with your face. Kathleen cut my bangs much too wide, didnt feather them or cut them in a spiky manner. So in addition to the uninspiring layers, my bangs are like a blob of hair sitting onto of my forehead. The overall impression is one of helmet hair. A friend of mine said, quote, at least, its even.

Katie gave us a great outdoor pandemic childs haircut, which was awesome for my haircut-averse son and his Covid-averse mom. Scheduling was easy, Katie was kind and the haircut was great. She also supplied TWO lollipops to both the haircut kid and his little brother after she overheard them talking about it outside. Highly recommend both Bananas and Katie!

I have been going to Kathleen for forever. She is wonderful — super talented stylist who does expert cuts and color, but also extremely time efficient while never ever sacrificing the quality of your haircut!! Even did double masked outdoor cuts during the pandemic to keep us both safer! I don’t trust my pixie cut to just anyone!

Kathleen, thanks for the great cut! Every day I get compliments and even a couple, Whoa! reactions.I felt very safe with the social distancing measures in place. All staff wore masks and appointments were spaced apart in chairs.It was really nice to engage in a normal activity again - one I hadnt done in over a year!

Always a great hair cut or coloring

This is going to be a long review, but the short of it is that I came in for a natural blonde balayage and I got a poor dye job from a rude stylist with seemingly little knowledge on how to do the job. They were unwilling and/or unable to fix their mistakes, and told me there was nothing they could do for me after messing up my hair because they were no longer comfortable working on it. Do not book Caprice for a dye job. Attached are pictures from the night I got the hair done and the day after. Notice the extremely bright colors and the choppy dye job.I came in on Friday for a natural blonde balayage. I consulted with the stylist before and showed her a reference picture, and came in later for the appointment. During the dying, my hair started to turn orange from a previous semi-permanent pink dye from over a year ago. To clarify, my problem is NOT that my hair turned orange. I understand that hair can be unpredictable, and sometimes these things happen. My problem was with what came next. She bleached my hair for twice as long as she originally planned, turning my hair bleach blonde. Instead of a neutralizing blue-violet based toner, my stylist opted for a rose gold toner. Being my first time bleaching my hair, I didnt know better. The toner she chose only amplified the orange and added pink. This left my hair extremely over-bleached, with a streaky yellow/orange/pink mix. The top section was brown and then the bottom turned very bright. The job took longer than expected and towards the end she was rushing me out of the salon. She didnt even bother to blow dry my hair, and I didnt even see the full damage until I got home.The stylist told me if I didnt like what was done, I could come back and have it fixed for free. So on Monday, I called and made an appointment, and called out of work for the appointment. Later I received a phone call from the stylist herself. She was extremely rude and when I said I didnt like the bright, streaky dye job, she told me that if I wanted my hair a more natural color, I would be charged for it because it was another process. At this point I had requested a blue based neutralizing toner, which she told me I couldnt do because it would dye my hair blue (this is wrong, and any hair stylist should know how to use a neutralizing toner!) The stylist wanted to charge me MORE after messing up my hair. I eventually with the very nice assistant manager who told me they would fix my hair free of charge.An hour later, I receive another call from the stylist. She told me she was no longer comfortable working on my hair - the hair SHE messed up on. She refused to do my hair, cancelling the appointment I called out of work for, and told me to come in for a refund.I came in for my refund and the stylist saw me but immediately walked away. Another lady at the salon processed my refund, and told me that if I wanted my hair a more natural color, I would need to bleach it again or it wouldnt be fixed. I did get my money back, but I was left with awful hair and according to them, no easy way to fix it.But the kicker is that after a lot of research and contacting other hair stylists, I was able to tone out the orange myself with $8 worth of product and an hour of my time. My hair isnt what I wanted, but no thanks to my stylist, it is at least manageable. Apparently my stylist didnt know how to use a neutralizing toner (which, btw, did NOT turn my hair blue), or if she did, she flat out refused to even attempt to fix her mistakes.Overall, Im VERY disappointed with the level of incompetence and rudeness I experienced from my stylist. Im really disappointed because at first she seemed really nice and I was excited to have a new stylist close to school. Unfortunately, after my poor dye job, incorrect color correction, rudeness and a cancelled appointment, I have to give Bananas 1/5.To be fair, the other stylists seemed very nice. Everyone else I interacted with was kind, and would probably do a good job. My experience however, was awful.

They are really taking COVID seriously here. They will cut your hair outside, and the salon is clean, hand sanitizer available, and social distancing practiced. They are on time with your appointment. Katie is fantastic. She listens to you, really cares, and does a great job cutting thinning hair. Highly recommend!

Ive received several haircuts at Bananas at this point, and every time Ive taken the card of the hairdresser. Even though the timing of my appointments meant I always got a new one, Ive never left disappointed in the cut, despite my hair being a bit difficult, so I highly recommend giving them a try!

I had a wonderful experience at Bananas! My stylist Katie was phenomenal! She was so kind, and worked a miracle on my damaged hair. Kaite was able to turn my at home bleached hair into a beautiful white blonde color, and gave a great haircut as well! 5/5 stars!

Great staff and knowledgeable abaut hair

This place what can I say it took literally a year to fix my hair. I went in for a color and came out with less hair and damage hair I honestly didn’t had the strength to argue with anyone I just took my losses and grew my hair back out never in my life will go back to this place again. People trying to get color, highlights please seek a professional who know and who is certify to do a proper job. I still have a long way to go to get my hair looking and feeling better big lesson learn only professional next time. If I decide to. God bless!

Caprice is amazing! I hate getting my haircut yet she never makes me feel bad for neglecting my hair. She also has experience with dry curly/frizzy hair so I implicitly trusted her as she put highlights in...my first time getting highlights!

Caprice (spelling?) is amazing & has done an incredible job on my partners hair as well as mine! She got very dark hair dyed into a gorgeous silver with a fancy curl. The cuts were perfect, she listens & is very helpful and kind. Additionally, as a transgender person, the staff there did an excellent job respecting our pronouns.

Doing their very best during this pandemic. Kathleen is terrific!

Been going to Katie Dice for over 4 years now. I have lots of baby fine hair and she is really skilled at maximizing volume. I dont always love how she styles it at the salon (Im not big on product), but I always love it immediately after I put my own spin on it. She is also the sweetest. Highly recommend her!!

Poor reception... poor customer service... unclean areas... couldnt do difficult hair... if you have easy hair and just need a quick wash and dry then go for it otherwise not worth it... you will just need to redo your hair at home

HORRIBLE.Maybe if you dont have kinky or natural hair, then youre fine. First off - awkward setting to walk into if youre a colored person. They look at you and treat you differently. Secondly - I was rushed off the chair for the next customer even when I told her ahead of time how I wanted my hair. I went in for a simple deep condition wash, trim, and style. I received a wash, blow dry, and trim. I left with my hair flat and boring and still paid full price for lame service. I didnt even get a goodbye. She just walked off and told me to pay up front. On top of that - she opened her drawer and alcohol bottles fell out. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!

I scheduled an appointment for myself and my daughter, they only scheduled one appointment. Next time I scheduled again for us both and even though we both checked in they no showed me for my appointment WHILE I WAS SITTING IN THE SALON! Im done! Their customer service sucks and for what I pay for a haircut the least they can do is actually cut it. I will never go back!

I got the worst haircut of my entire life. I asked for shoulder length with layers and received a blunt cut that varies up to an inch in length very abruptly. I am disappointed in myself that I even paid for the service and now (as a college student with no job) need to go to another salon, spend money I don’t have, and have my hair 4-5 inches shorter than I originally wanted to fix this cut. The stylist asked what side I parted my hair on and I said left then proceeded to cut it with a middle part (unevenly) and when I asked she stated that she does not know her right from her left (I am not joking she actually did not know). I also was given a different stylist than I booked with.

Hit or miss on the quality of the stylist. If you find a stylist you like, stick with them, not all are trained the same.

They advertise that wash and blow dry for kids is $18-25, but after my daughters hair was done the owner quoted $40 because it took longer than 30 minutes. I have no problem with paying for a service but you should state $18-40. I called before hand and specified my daughters hair type. Not once was I told it was considered extra. This to me is a very poor business practice and false advertising. Basically if you have ethnic hair, you pay double. Not the best option for kids either.

Ive been going to Kay for about 8 years. At first it was because I worked at UMD and could go for a quick cut during my lunch break. It wasnt long before Kay convinced me to try blonde highlights and I was hooked! It takes too long for a lunch break (more like 90 minutes), and costs a bit more than just a haircut, but shes so great at making them look natural and stylish. Shes also easy to talk to. I never had a relationship with a stylist before, and I feel more like shes a member of my extended family now. Sometimes I really need to cut costs and I skip a few months, or switch to box dye and cuts at the haircuttery, but eventually I return and when I do I look in the mirror and just say, Ahhh!!! because once shes done, I finally look like myself again.
