The office is clean, the staff is friendly, there is ample parking on site, the location is easy to access, but the real reason to visit is the doctors.I saw Dr Kaz - he is phenomenal. I have very high standards for my medical care, and he exceeded all of my expectations. His assistant Amanda is one of the nicest people Ive met in a medical office. They really are a great care team.So, if they have doctors that treat your ailment, I would highly recommend this IBJI location.

Dr Chen told me how badly I had hurt my hand, showed and explained the X-rays and laid out surgery, treatment and what to expect. He took the time I needed to understand. He was right on everything. Straightforward, personable and highly skilled, he would be my first recommendation for hand surgery.

This is a very efficiently run office with very personable staff. The doctor explained plainly what the problem was and what my alternatives were. I was back at work a few minutes ahead of schedule and with relief of my pain.

Dr. Kaz made my life so much easier!!! I would recommend him for any of your surgery needs! I fell over a holiday weekend, broke my fibula & 5th metatarsal. Due to the holiday, I went to an urgent care and needed to see an orthopedic surgeon within 48 hours. Dr. Kaz saw me within 24 hours, went over all my options with me and recommended surgery the same week BUT I am not from Chicago so follow up with Dr. Kaz would not be possible. Orthopedic surgeons in other states will not take you for follow up if they do not do the surgery. I was stuck! Dr. Kaz made a phone call to a surgeon in my home state and made the impossible happen. I traveled home after the surgery and received follow up care from the other surgeon. Dr. Kaz and his entire office at Illinois Bone & Joint Institute went above the normal service for me and I appreciate it immensely. Dr. Kaz made me feel at ease and answered every question I had. The surgery went excellent and I am walking on the foot again!

I am so grateful to Dr. Ackerman and his team to make my total hip replacement journey easy. I suffered for over a year with chronic pain before finding Dr Ackerman and Illinois Bone & Joint Institute. He clearly explained the procedure beforehand and his team guided me through the process before and after surgery with ease. I was in very good hands! Three weeks out from surgery, I am comfortably walking, driving and starting physical therapy. I highly recommend Dr Ackerman!

Very good experience. I have seen Dr. Rubinstein for knee surgery years ago, and everything has been fine. This time I have been having issues with my right hand, and Dr. Rubinstein made a meaningful diagnosis, and made good recommendations to solve the trigger finger issue.

I really enjoy my interaction with Dr. Westin. All the staff are professional and courteous.

Dr. Chen was knowledgeable, considerate, and professional. He walked me through not only my injury, x-rays and treatment, but also broke down the financials as well. He even went as far to get my dad on the phone to explain the situation, so all parties were up to date. An awesome doctor that kept me in the loop and gave me the best treatment I’ve experienced in a long time, and trust me I’ve had more injuries than I care to admit!

Although, I believe the treatments given are standard of care the attitude of reception and the docs is poor.

Dr Chen was very informative and explained everything about my x-rays. The paperwork was exhausting and took 45 min.

The wait was longer than I expected. But once I saw the Dr. He was very thorough. He offered three options for my issue and checked with my insurance before providing equipment to make sure I wasnt charged.

After a nasty ankle break up came to Doctor D’silva ti get all fixed up. He did surgery in my fibula and took care of me throughout healing, he did a absolutely fantastic job. He has great bedside manner and explained everything to me so thoroughly. He gave me options and talked me through everything making me feel very comfortable. After surgery I began doing physical therapy with Claire who is also awesome!! I couldn’t recommend them more

Efficient and Covid safe check in process.Dr Ackerman was great. Answered all my questions and explained everything thoroughly.

Dr Chen was extremely good, explaining everything to me and giving me my options. He took into account my arthritis problem also and besides getting casted for a broken wrist, he ordered some cream for my thumb which has really relieved my discomfort in the cast I would highly recommend him.

I recently had a full hip replacement done with Dr. Ackerman which I am now fully recovered from. I had several consultations with other surgeons from NW and Rush, but they did not give off the same impression Dr. Ackerman did and were not as confident in that work. Not only did I need a full replacement, but I also had a leg length differential that needed to be addressed as part of the operation. Dr. Ackerman assured me he would be able to add the length where as the NW and Rush surgeons were hesitant. I am now feeling better than I ever have in my life with the new hip and have no limitations just 7 months after my surgery. If you are considering a replacement, please skip the time and aggravation dealing with a huge hospital and instead head here. Surgery was performed at Illinois Masonic hospital and every staff member was extremely kind and helpful.

Dr. Jeff Ackerman is a skilled surgeon and overall great doc. I have seen him and his colleagues over the years for various orthopedic issues resulting from a fall down stairs 5-6 years ago.What I think sets him apart from other skilled surgeons is that he actually gets to the cause of even tricky problems BEFORE any surgery is considered.I had a hip bursectomy at a well known Chicago hospital and within a week the searing pain and limping remained. I took my old images to him and he said it looks like that full or partial tear in your glut med and glut min are the issue. Most surgeons don’t even want to touch that surgery. He did and thank goodness.The latest surgery was a knee replacement. I had other opinions. One doc said I could get away with a partial. Yay. One said, he would need to do the surgery in two stages: partial then sep knee cap. Less, yay. Dr. Ackerman said he would not, could not do a partial of any kind on my knee the way it was esp with my very bowed tibia. Boo. At the risk of losing a patient, he chose to be honest. Two weeks ago I had a full knee replacement and he straightened my tibia. It’s no fun esp the first 10 days. But I am already walking better.If you are looking for a doctor who has time to hear about your new dog or your daughter’s wedding before he gets down to the business of your ortho issue, not your guy. He is very nice but he is seeing you for a specific purpose. He doesn’t hurry through a visit but he is on a mission to figure out what’s wrong and if he can help.That said, he called me on a Sunday about a concern I had and replies to my e-mails. Bonus: his assistant Joy is a pleasure.

Absolutely awful communication across the board. I saw the same Dr. (Dr Fisher) on more than one occasion and he had no idea what my history was on the follow-up visit; I had to start from scratch. Our interactions have consistently given me the impression that he could care less about my condition, and he has also failed to follow through with the referrals for his “recommended treatments”.Additionally, getting ANY kind of records has been a complete nightmare with this facility. Records have never been completed in a timely fashion. After my initial visit, insurance contacted me over a week later saying they had issues getting the Dr.’s report due to it not being finished thereby postponing any authorizations on prescribed care. 2 weeks later when I called IBJI it was still not finished so they could not send it. I had to wait a month after the written referral to be able to start PT. To my knowledge (almost 3 months later), the record/report may still be pending. I went through all the hoops to request a complete copy of my 10 months worth of records with them and now, almost 8 weeks later; I still have no access to records (they gave me a 3 week ETA). I was told to check with their outsourced record-keeping which I did but also cannot get a response. I’ve also left voicemails for specific departments at the location and those were also all ignored. I’ve been flying blind for almost 3 months with IBJI Avondale. I DO NOT RECOMMENDSide note:The wait times are unacceptable (nearly an hr wait before the Dr came in at my last visit) and the billing dept seems incompetent. I thought I paid at the time of my appointment during my very first trip to this facility. 8 months went by and I never once received a bill. The first time I returned they made me feel like a criminal with an outstanding balance that I needed to pay before they would see me. Paying it wasn’t the issue, it was the element of surprise and the way they presented the information. I paid it and we proceeded toward the the next series of disappointments...

This place has good doctors, but their administrative staff is very unprofessional. They do not let you know what you need to bring to your appointments. The biggest problem is that they wait until you come in for an appointment to inform you that you need a referral before you can see yhe doctor. So, before you waste your trip here make sure that they have everything they need for you.

The overall experience left a lot to be desired. They had terrible Covid-19 practices by leaving patients waiting for over an hour in their waiting room without anything to enforce social distancing. Once taken to see the doctor, they were rushed and was given bad information that was not correct at all and could have lead to a worsening condition. I would not recommend going to IBJI.

Im currently a patient at this clinic, and my experience so far is not that good,I thought i was gonna being seeing by one Doctor his name is Dr.Pontinen,but I been seeing different doctor and I have only seeing Dr.Pontinen twice at all my visits, but the one Doctor Im very disappointed and lil bit angry is his assistant Dr.Angie she is very rude,very sarcastic and very unprofessional, when you try to explain her something about yourself that has changed or that happens to you she will cut you off with her sarcastic attitude and I dont think thats right of her to be acting or treating a patient like that and also the receptionist that they have at front desk when you call them to pass a message they act like if they have something against you and they always put me on hold for more than 20 minutes and last time I was supposed to have a phone meeting with my doctor and the doctor never called me but the receptionist did call me all late before they were gonna close, and they said I missed my phone call and that I need to reschedule my appointment it was a lie but ,after that being said I wouldnt recommend anyone this place look out for your options elsewhere. Doctor Pontinen and the other Doctors I have seen are very nice and very professional but I cant say the same about Doctor Angie very dissatisfied with her. Thank you for those Doctors that do there job professionally and have the heart to care for those who need there help.Thank you Doctors.

I have been to IBJI a number of times and have always been satisfied with the service, friendliness, and professionalism of those I encountered.

I had two occasions in the last two years where I needed to avail myself of the services at the Illinois bone and Joint Institute. Both times I interacted with Dr. Jeffrey Ackerman. Dr. Ackerman, his assistant Joy and the entire staff are very professional. All of my questions were answered completely by Dr. Ackerman and his assistant Joy helped me with my insurance and FMLA paperwork so that everything went smoothly. I give them my highest recommendations.

I spent 5 minutes talking to a doctor on my first visit, they billed me $247 for this. Insane. I went for PT and when I arrived the receptionist told me my insurance didnt cover it and it would be $174. I reluctantly agreed and said I would just learn some exercises and do it from home after that. Just got a bill for $301!!! For 1 hour of PT! I also would have NEVER agreed to pay this and would have walked right out. I just called customer service, who rudely said ok Ill notate your account but you still have to pay then hung up on me!! HUNG. UP. How unprofessional. I would take your business to a better, more prestigious institute, with people who do not lie about their services and what they cost and folks who dont hang up on you. Ill never be back and I wouldnt refer a soul to this place.

Sadly I am the exception, Dr. Scott Ackerman who upon meeting and having subsequent conversations re: my desperately needed knee replacement, I felt confident as we seemed to be on the same page. If I sound like a know-it-all it is because I have a total of five, yes five joint replacements and I will need a redo on the knee Ackerman performed, and a complex revision on my hip(which was done by another doctor at a different hospital with another highly regarded surgeon) Dr. Ackerman used the wrong prosthetic for my knee, I cannot kneel at all because of the protruding component that acts as kneecap is tapers to what is similar in shape to the keel of a boat. Post surgically as in days 2-10 he was indifferent to my pain to the point that I had to literally plead my case tearfully to the various residents and I am no wimp.P.S. I teach ballet ans can no longer do so since the surgery, needless to say I am without work as well as joy.

Saw Dr Chen for wrist condition. He was great and and explained my condition band how it would require surgery. I am giving a three star because his assistant was rude and could care less about my need to complete STD paperwork. I left several messages with questions I had for a scheduled surgery and she did not return my call. I did not go forth with my surgery as my primary doctor advised me to see another hand specialist. Why? Until now I still have pain on my wrist and the other doctor has be taking OT which is not helping. I should have used my own judgment as stuck with Dr Chen

So far, so good! This was my first visit today, and my Dr. was Charles Slack. The staff was nice. I got called to my appointment before I was even able to finish my paperwork. Dr. Slack was very nice and knowledgeable, he explained my MRI images to me in detail and made me feel confident that I could be fixed! I have been dealing with back pain for 4 years and am looking forward to being pain free and back to an active lifestyle. Dr. Slack really listened to everything I said and has a good plan of action.

Ive been going to different doctors here over the last 4 or 5 years since they opened— Dr. Newman for my knee and ankle injuries, Dr. Vora for my ankle reconstruction surgery and Dr. Wetters for my husbands shoulder injuries. I cant rate or recommend this practice high enough. Every experience Ive had, from consultations to xrays to MRIs to surgery, was met with such care, kindness and knowledge from all involved. I love this place and trust that Im in excellent hands. They take time out to explain everything and they do not rush you in any way. Theyre happy to answer and explain anything you have questions about. The nurses and assistants are all friendly and knowledgable as well. I couldnt be happier with my experience here.

Have been going there for two years has always had a wonderful experience staff is always polite and helpful and my doctor (Dr. Kaz) is great always a smile and very attentive to my needs and he got my surgery did and stayed on me about taking care of myself and he was very honest with me and he helped me to stop smoking so that is tops with me I thank God I was sent to this office.

I have had a good experience. Doctor stayed late to see me as I came from urgent care. My wait for my follow up appointment was reasonable. The doctor (dr. Jax) and staff were attentive and helpful.

I had mri’s taken june 14th was told I will receive the results in up to 48 hours, it is now august 7th and a paid medical bill later that I have still not received them. No sense of care at all. I have called once a week to no avail of receiving any information just to be redirected or told I am put on a “priority list”. As my neck and lower back pain continues a mystery maybe I will receive my results one day.

Dr. Kaz was amazing during the entire process from Surgery up until recovery. Highly recommend him.

Go somewhere else.My initial visit, a PA was sent in and I wasnt given the option to see the doctor. When I questioned it, the doctor shook my hand as I walked out thinking this was enough. The PA was incredibly arrogant and unhelpful and I was charged double the regular amount for this ridiculous visit.Ive had chronic back issues for years and this time it got really bad. They wanted x-rays done and I said I would rather have an MRI because 6 months prior the x-ray wasnt enough to show anything. They insisted to have x-rays before the MRI and I kept fighting it up until I was about to be x-rayed. I put my foot down and said absolutely not. I have patient rights. They finally said an MRI was ok. It showed 4 herniated discs. I know my body.When I went back to talk with them about the results, no suggestions were made as to how to help my pain and discomfort besides, wait it out. I had done some research online and asked about stretches and anti-inflammatories. The Dr. said oh yeah, that might help. I asked about physical therapy and he said sure if you want. I felt like I was doing all the work myself. When I asked what could have caused this he said trauma or it could be hereditary. After giving them information about myself and family, neither of these were really an option, but I also dont expect the Dr. to be magic and know exactly how everything happens. I just expected them to be present, helpful, and use the information they have to make educated assumptions.Maybe not all the doctors here are this negligent, but I would highly suggest not seeing Dr. Fisher or his arrogant PA Ben if you do decide to go to this office.

This review is for Dr. Dennis Mess only, other than that I do enjoy coming here. It is very clean and efficient.Request Dr. Kevin Chen if you are in need of an Orthopedic Surgen.When I had my first visit with Dr. Dennis Mess at the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, it was just that, a Mess. He was huffy and puffy coming in and the nurse that put me in the room was obviously irritated with him. I had just broken my elbow the day before and brought my xrays from the emergency clinic to him. When looking at my file he said, Dont tell me, I bet there was alcohol involved. One, how rude and unprofessional and two, if im here paying you money to see and treat me do not disrespect me. Then proceeded to tell me I could go straight back to work, I am a hairstylist so I use my arms in different elevations and positions all day long. The doctor I saw at the emergency clinic insisted I wait at least 6 weeks due to my profession. Also, I couldnt even lift my arm up over my head as well as extend it out. He asked if I wanted to do therapy for my arm and I asked what he thought I should do. He briefly showed me some stretches and said that Im an adult so I should be able to handle it. In the later weeks, my follow up got transferred to Dr. Chen, Dr. Mess had an unexpected surgery. I was told by Dr. Chen to do therapy as my arm was not progressing with its extension. When I talked with my physical therapist, she thought it was odd that Dr. Mess didnt recommend or push for therapy.Long story short, whenever Dr. Mess name is mentioned in that place to other people, there is a silent look that comes across on their faces. I am a patient and understanding person, but do not get mislead by Dr. Mess.

Currently in the room waiting to get a rolled ankle looked at on a return check up. This is my second appointment with this office and I have waited a minimum of 40 minutes for the doctor to show up. My first appointment I waited an hour for the doctor, who then rushed through my appointment after declaring that my ankle was not broken. I am now back for my month after check up and my wait time in the patient room is approaching an hour with no doctor contact. I wrote this entire review while waiting for the doctor.Long story short, do not come to this office if you have a day job or real life requilrements. This office has been very poor and maintaining a professional relationship with me and I would not recommend using their services. If you can find another office that is suitable for you, I would suggest doing so.I dont write Yelp reviews or google reviews, but this place has caused me to miss two days of work, so I felt it necessary to warn the public. Do not use this place if you enjoy medical facilities that function swiftly and are accomadatng to your time as a patient.

Absolute waste of time and money, plus their billing department is incompetent.I went here to get a wrist injury looked at. Not only did it take 3 appointments and an MRI to find nothing wrong despite constant pain and an obvious visible deformation, they incorrectly labeled it at a pre-existing injury so my (admittedly less than stellar) insurance wouldnt cover it. Argue for a while, get nowhere, set up a payment plan, and resign myself to paying for it for 18 months.Nearly 2 years later I get a call from a collection agent about it. Turns out they cancelled my payment plan for no discernable reason, didnt contact me to fix it or even inform me, and just sent me into collections.Youd be better off just buying a thousand dollars worth of scratch-off lottery tickets, and just throwing them directly in the trash.

Due to the fact that the scheduling receptionist did not tell me I had to be there 15 minutes prior to my appointment time, they turned me away for my MRI. If they want patients there at a certain time and not a second later, they should mention this over the phone at the time of scheduling. What a waste of time. Will be going somewhere else.

I would not be able to walk if not for Il Bone and Joint . Sometimes the OV wait time is long but that is because the physicians take time with the patients.

Staff was fine BUT waiting 90+ minutes and still waiting PAST the appointment time is ridiculous!I have been to 3 of their other offices for numerous appts and never waited longer than 20 min past regardless how busy.
