The concept is great, the community is nice, you can learn a lot, but often members dont take care of tools/equipment/workspaces which can cause more pain than its worth. If you want to DO something, bring your own tools. If you want to learn, then this place is awesome.

Great place to learn new trades and skills in a very friendly environment. Everyone there is happy to help one another out and share their experience and knowledge. Great place for inspiration as well, everyones doing their own thing there so you have a wide range of creative diversity. Its completely community run so Ive seen many issues with organization and maintenance but even with all that its an incredible makers space.

They have nice equipment. The equipment breaks often and since it’s all volunteers it doesn’t get fixed in a timely manor. They have lots of drama and clicks. It’s 40/month for 24 hour access. It’s a good deal and when the machines work it’s great. Just know at $40 a month you also have to deal with all types of people. After a year of sitting on this I think it is also important to bring up that they are really horrible to women in the organization. I worked on a committee to work on issues but it was unsuccessful. While I was a member there I had issues with theft, mental, and verbal abuse. I know there have also been other more serious issues against women. It’s a messy organization and while it’s a great learning environment it is also very abusive. The power goes to the heads of people elected and if you bring up issues or question them they target you and make up horrible accusations. I have experienced this. When I defended a person being blocked from the Google groups for asking a question about improper use of funds the attack was turned on me by the board in 2020.

One of the greatest places in Chicago where everyone can hack/build/contribute/learn/share on almost anything. They have lathes and bookbinding equipment, industrial machinery and micro-robotics. I think there is almost something for everyone, except geneticists. Seriously worth checking out the space. One of the greatest nerd havens of all times!

Come for the tools, stay for the community. Completely volunteer run and member driven. Great place to learn and experiment with all sorts of tools and processes - and get 24hr access. But the best part of all is getting to know the other members - where the real learning happens is the shared knowledge and passion. Stick around, talk to people, and youll certainly meet some interesting folks. Stop by for Open house Tuesday nights at 8pm.

An amazing space that allows hundred of creative people to express, build, and gather under one cozy roof. The people here are so polite, and Im always really inspired by the artists surrounding me. The $40 monthly fee is definitely worth it.

I wanted to make end engagement ring for my fiance. I didnt know how. People at pumping station one spent 6 months with me to teach me how. My wife is very happy. At pumping station one people freely share their knowledge. I never saw this in private sector.

Went to PS:ONE for the after party after day One at KiCon 2019. Great maker space. They have most of the usual stuff found at most maker spaces - 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC etc. But they also have more traditional machines like manual lathes, welding rigs etc. If I stayed in Chicago, Id definitely be a member at this amazing maker space.

I went here to seek help building a spooky tesla spirit radio. they were helpful. they were not helpful in my quest of wanting to build a water fuel cell though. no one here researches free energy devices. they are all kind of normys. its sad because the potential is so great with a place like this. they could all put their heads together and save the world. i never joined but if i had, i would have made sure to use the electron microscope.

Get thee to a hackerspace. This is the kind of place where youll see programmers making art and artists doing science. Youll learn a lot by hanging out here. The community of awesome and smart people is what makes this place really great, but when it comes to tools here are some of the highlights:laser cutter3D printerssmall CNC routervinyl cutterlarge format printerfull woodshop with nice table sawfull machine shop with nice lathesheet metal brake, shears, slip roller corner notchersmall propane forge and anvilwelders (both MIG and TIG)plasma torchvacuum formerindustrial sewing machine & sergerelectronic knitting machinescanning electron microscopefull electronics shop with scopes, meters, power supplies, irons and zillion components... this list goes on but I should probably stop here.Since joining a few years ago Ive learned to use all of the tools listed above, and also learned some math, basic computer science, and brewing/extracting. Its changed my life.Get thee to a hackerspace.
