I completely agree with the review that Rhonda left. I was very uncomfortable being asked the same questions multiple times. Every time I asked to see a dog, I was told that we were not compatible. That I did not understand! The staff only let me interact with a dog that was only up for fostering, which is not what I was looking for and I did disclose that I was looking to adopt not foster. If I could Ill give Paws Chicago a Big Fat Zero! No stars at all! I wanted to adopt a cat from Paws Chicago and was denied because I receive unemployment and have an un-neutered dog at home. I believe these organizations are petty and being discriminatory on people base on economics status. It doesnt take much to love on a kitty during a pandemic. I am disappointed in Paws Chicago! Ill definitely get me a kitty kitty base on love and compassion and not on conditions and circumstances! I just wanted to share my experience with love and light!

It took paws 1.6 months to respond to an adoption inquery and tell me that the cat I inquired about is no longer available. I am devastated. There is no justification for taking this long to tell me or anyone else, I’ve been thinking about and waiting on this particular cat this entire time. They make it actually impossible to talk to a human at their company about the status of your application the entire time, and then have the gall to encourage you to apply again.I would highly recommend going through a different adoption agency like the anti cruelty society, where they treat people like people instead of tertiary fodder.

I previously adopted 2 adorable kittens (Milo and Sherlock) from PAWS in 2017. My experience was good and I would have recommended it to others. Well in 2019 that is no longer the case. This afternoon I went into PAWS to adopt a puppy I had fallen in love with. I began the adoption process. I was asked if the other person listed on the lease was still living with me (which they are not). I explained the situation of tenancy, we got clearance from my landlord and all was fine.A few minutes later their employee Deborah came from the hallway and said your dad just busted you buddy. She then went on to accuse me of lying about my living situation because my dad (whom I dont even speak to and Im 26...) said I live with another person. The fact that she directly referred to me as a liar and said I was making insinuating and false claims is completely inappropriate, inaccurate, and very offensive.Deborah prevented a 2 month old female puppy from going to a great loving home and owner while also completely ruining my perception and view of PAWS and their employees.I understand that not all PAWS employees lack professionalism or integrity, but Deborah was enough to make me never step foot into another PAWS again.I would like to thank Deborah for sending me to Chicago Canine Rescue because without that I would have never ended up adopting my new family member, a 3 month old Shepherd named Orbit who is a perfect dog.

I recently reached out to PAWS Chicago. I would honestly give them a half of a star. I reached out to them in regards to rehoming my dog. I had been told about them from a few friends who are very familiar with my situation. Long story short I recently had a career change that requires me to travel and Im not able to provide her (my dog) with the quality of life she deserves and just dont have the reliable help that I need. My friends encouraged me to reach out to PAWS as they heard their organization was amazing. I reached out to PAWS out of desperation and with hope that they could really help me with rehoming my pet. Long story short I filled out their pet survey form that ask questions about your pet. They wanted me to clarify and elaborate on a few things about my Pet. I did. They eventually emailed med back saying that my dog wasnt a goof fit for their program for reasonsI didnt understand. They didnt even invite my dog in for a full evaluation to confirm if she was or wasnt a good fit for their program. They told me no and then sent me a 2 page list of other shelters and organizations I could use. I just think they can t truly 100 % stand behind their so called mission & purpose of saving pets and caring so much.

This place needs to make accommodations because this system simply isn’t working. I’ve done an application on line as well as the Pet Compatibility and applied for almost each puppy. No response. No call I then sent an email out and received a response “oh the puppy has been adopted” I check the site daily I figured that out 2 weeks agoThis place is simply hindering good people from adopting and using the pandemic as an excuse. Why does it take 3-4 weeks after an animal gets adopted for you to send out the email letting those who inquired that that animal is no longer available. I’ve adopted from the Humane Society in Muster Indiana and it’s much smoother that PAWS Chicago you guys are horrible I wish I could give no star.

After two years of visits to Paws, my husband and I finally agreed to let our daughter adopt a dog. Unfortunately this coincided with the Covid virus pandemic. Essentially PAWS no longer allowed any people into the facility and she was made to put in online applications and eventually after several months got a call about a puppy for her. She was not allowed to see any of the other dogs to ensure that she had picked the right animal for her. When we went into the center for a visit, we spent less than half an hour with the dog and ended up walking out with it. For an organization that wants to ensure it’s got the best home for every dog, this strategy even in the face of a pandemic seems shortsighted. It is no surprise that the dog that we adopted, although supposedly crate and toilet trained, was neither. In addition, the dog had Giardia and infected our five-year-old Dane. We spent a ton of $$ getting them both treated. The dog also has significant anxiety which manifested on Day 1 and we had quite specifically stated that we could not have a dog with even mild signs of anxiety given that our Great Dane has significant psychiatric issues. It’s been a few months now and Pepper has become a part of our life. But we will never adopt again. The entire experience has been extraordinarily negative. None of it is Peppers fault so we intend to be the best home that he can get for as long as we can.

My girlfriend and I were looking to rescue a third dog. We filled out the necessary paperwork and finally got a response back after three days. Fortunately for us, I had a friend who worked there who helped get the ball rolling otherwise we could have been waiting for up to two weeks for a response or none at all according to the lady we spoke to at the front desk when we called. The process is completely backwards and they blamed covid for it. I get it, but the pandemic has been going on for over a year now and yet they are unable to make the proper adjustments to make the experience smoother. After filling out the adoption form and pet comPETibility quiz it was on then to call us. When they did, the man we spoke to was unable to answer vaccinations questions and had no idea about electric fences or how they operated so I had to explain it to him. Then he set up a slot for a second phone call to discuss how to take care of animals (still had to complete while owning two dogs) and a slot to have a meet and greet with the dog we were interested in and then adopt. We planned the meet and greet for Thursday yet when he sent the email he had booked if for Friday so we called to fix their error. We did not have much of an issue during the planned second call. We spoke with a Diane during this portion the process. She was nice enough but still was unable to answer vaccinations questions and admitted to not being able to pull up the dog’s profile. At this point in time we had spent roughly an hour and a half on the process. When we arrived, we were placed in a room with dried up poop in the corner and pee in the ground that was never cleaned up while we were there. We spent about 15 minutes alone in the room at which time I was trying to calm my two dogs who were just in the car for about an hour while they had to hear the shelter dogs barking. My well mannered dog was never able to fully relax and the younger, more energetic dog really had a hard time being back inside a shelter. Then walked in Joan, their “behavioral expert.” I can only wonder how they came up with that title for this lady. She came in the room, said her name, and just sat on the table facing away from us and never even asked my dogs names. I was trying to get my dogs to stop barking which would have been easier if this “behavioral expert” was prepare with treats and actually introduced herself to my dogs. After a few minutes she did just that, left the room and came back with treats and my dogs started to calm down a little. We spoke for a bit and she went to get the dog we were interested in.When she returned, again my dogs started barking after seeing the dog she was with. I did my best to calm them back down but they weren’t having it, they were more interested in the third dog in the room. Just from judging the body language of Joan, I determined she had already made up her mind from the very first exchange we had when she walked into the room alone and that was we were not getting the dog. As a “behavioral expert” I would have expected her to actually have a plan of how to introduce two dogs to a puppy but that was not the case. She just held the puppy in her arms for a few minutes and told me that it was not going to be a good fit. I then suggested separating my two dogs so they didn’t have a pack mentality and she allowed it. My girlfriend took one of my dogs into a separate room and I kept the other one. My dogs attitude completely shifted after his brother left. My dog was highly curious with the puppy and wanted to smell him. Joan approved of this meeting as far as I could tell. Then we switched my for my more anxious dog. He wasn’t having any of it at first but then started to relax enough to get closer to the dog at which point Joan said it wasn’t a fit and we were not getting the dog. I tried to explain that it just takes time for him to warm up to new people, let alone animas since he’s been in the system before but in less than 10 minutes, the “behavioral expert” deemed it not a match. I thanked her for wasting 4 hours of my time.

We were a little uncertain about the process since we wouldnt be able to meet dogs before putting applications in, but PAWS made the process incredibly easy. We decided what we wanted in a dog (social, good with kids, and able to be home on their own for a few hours at a time) and put in applications on all the dogs that fit our wants. We had to wait a few weeks, but then we got the call about our boy. From there it was a quick, easy process. We were asked to come in and meet him and we absolutely fell in love. All of the staff members and volunteers at PAWS have been absolutely wonderful throughout the process, from starting our applications through the post-adoption check-ins. Initially I went there looking for just one kitten but after spending some time with the volunteers they convinced me how much better is to adopt two instead of just one. I am so glad that I listened to their advise and went home with two. The kittens are super fun and bring so much of joy into my home. I live by myself and they are already my very loved family members. The adoption process was very smooth and everyone was very informative. I feel happy with my fur kids!

They do wonderful work here and have so many sweet animals looking for homes (foster or adoption) with you. They offer great support for their foster parents and animals. Come by, find a new friend. Or just say hi and drop off a little donation.

Yeah so i been waiting for a response about a dog for over 2 weeks. They should at least have someone calling to update people. Im still gonna give em 4 stars cause they help animals.

I CAME IN WIT MY SON .I CALLED AHEAD AN I HAD LOOKED ON THE WEB SITE AN SAW 2 DIFFERENT KITTENS THAT MY SON LIKED AN WANTED .WHEN WE GOT THERE THEY TOLD ME THAT THE KITTENS WE LIKED WERE TAKEN SO WE WENT HOME AN 3 MONTHS WENT PAST WE WENT BACK TO THE SAME PLACE AN YES THE SAME KITTENS WERE THERE SO I ASK THEM HOW WAS THAT AN NOT 1 PERSON HAD A ANSWER FOR ME ..SO NO I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK .WHY PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT U DONT WANT .AN WHY DID THEY OUT RIGHT LIE ABOUT THE KITTENS. I HATE TO SAY IT BUT I THINK MY SKIN COLOR REALLY HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT.AN ITS SAD CAUSE IT WAS FOR MY CHILD...I MEAN I LOOKED UP THE KITTENS AN THEY WERE THERE LIKE ALMOST A YEAR AN I HAD BEEN THERE TWICE TO GET ONE AN ITS NOT FAIR .BUT I WILL NOT SPEND ANY MONEY WERE I OR MY CHILD IS TREATED UNFAIRLY JUST OVER OUR SKIN COLOR AN THE ONLY REASON I GAVE 1 STAR IS SO I CAN POST ON HERE. I HOPE EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD SEE THIS..I WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN AN I WILL TELL ALL MY FRIENDS AN FAMILY NOT TO GO THERE AN HAVE THERE FRIENDS TELL THEY FRIENDS..ITS UNFAIR
