I had gone to Franciscan Chesterton because of a severe, localized reaction to a bee sting. A nurse took me in, and she was very nice. However, the doctor soon entered my room, took a look at my arm, and then told me I would need to take antibiotics. I thought that this wasn’t right because antibiotics would take quite some time to begin working. Honestly, I think he was too interested in chatting with the doctor next to him at the nurses’ station to be bothered by dealing with a bee sting.In the meantime, my hand was still swollen, and I was still in pain. Since my hand wasn’t getting any better, my husband took me to Northwest Porter ER. Upon entering the ER patient room, the nurse took a look at my arm and immediately began starting an IV. She told me that I would need to be hospitalized because of the severe reaction. A couple minutes later a doctor from Northwest Porter took a look at my arm, and he said he was going to admit me. They swiftly began treatment. I spent 3 days in the hospital due to this severe allergic reaction to a bee sting. I can’t believe the difference in the care, and the competency of the ER doctors, when comparing Northwest Porter and Franciscan Chesterton. Never ever while I go to Franciscan in Chesterton for any type of medical care again.

Physician bill 339.00Urgent care bill 394.00In case anyone wants to know what this Urgent care facility bills with nothing but a 15 second conversation.Very frustrating and a short version.All to walk in your room and say I am not confident in doing that procedure here is a recommendation of a physician who does the procedure in office..Unreal to even receive a bill let alone this much for a 15 second conversation. Called and was told thats just what we charge, to bad!

My G.I. is on the top floor and the office is always clean with very, very nice staff. The ladies at the front desk are so fun to chat with. Ive never waited a long time to be seen either which is a plus.

Unnecessary test before seeing anyone. If you go to urgent care, they will automatically tell that this is an ER matter... without anything being different, still in the same room. I ask the question, whats the difference? Only difference is how much youre pay, cost more. That was answered by their staff.

Always friendly and fast service

My family and I have gone here separately throughout the past few years and each of us have had terrible experiences. While the nursing staff is incredible, the doctors on staff have terrible beside manor. If you have a serious medical concern, I would recommend driving the extra 15 minutes to Porter Hospital.

I was seen by a doctor very quickly. I was in and out in under an hour. The whole staff was super nice and everyone was helpful and cared. I would come back here again and suggest them to my friends and family.

I’ve come here for physical, chronic, and mental health. I’m quite experienced going here, unfortunately. I’d say 95% of the time I’m always helped as best as I can possibly be. Most everyone is incredibly nice. And I am thankful for them. I would NEVER go to porter hospital. They would kill me before giving me help.

Not going to say everyone was rude but it’s honestly like this place didn’t have any compassion. Felt like no one actually cared how much pain my sister was feeling they honestly treated her like an other file. Thought it would be a good idea coming here but no. Don’t do it, waste of time. Are all hospital like this does no one show compassion anymore? On top of that they left her pee in the room the whole 3 hours we were there?

Sometimes youll get in fast, sometimes it may take a while. The first time I went, I was in and out with a script in less than an hour. The second time it was pretty busy, my husband and I waited 2.5 hours to get called back(they go in order of severity of emergencies.) Other than the wait time, the staff is very friendly. Some doctors are better than others, but Id rather come here than most surrounding urgent cares.

The lady at the front desk was very rude. I was trying to laugh a little and make conversation but apparently she wasnt in the mood and she showed it. I really wish I couldve gotten her name. I gave two stars because the doctor I saw and the RN I had were very pleasant. They almost made me forget about the rude experience before. I love Franciscan Physician Network and usually never have any issues.

We just moved was looking for new family doc. Called made appointments for my entire family that mind you took a little over a month to get in. So today I take my daughter was suppose to be seen by Doc Rachel Kalter at 3:40 today, we wait an hour just to be told doc refuses to see us because we do not vaccinate. Which I told them when calling around for new doc, and was told would not be a problem. I could understand this if this was just her practice,however its not. And my family has been using Franciscan since birth. Well they just lost all 5 of us. I love how doctors think you work for them.

Went to the center on 10/18 to get treatment for my severe back pain. The care I received from Nurse Jen and Dr. Bell was outstanding. Very attentive and caring.I believe I found my new emergency services!But of course few and far visits.Thank you againExceptional service carried on at Franciscan hosp in Michigan city

I went in because I could not get into my regular doctor until the next day and clearly something was wrong. I was warned the Dr. might want to admit me to the ER when I checked in, by the first nurse and then again by an ER nurse that stopped in. This was very surprising since that seemed extreme. The doctor walked in and immediately said I needed a CT scan and bloodwork and would need to be admitted to the ER. I tried to reason with him. He literally crossed his arms and said he could not help me without tests. I declined and left feeling as they tried to take advantage by ordering tests that were not needed. I saw my regular Dr the next day. The diagnosis was STREP THROAT. It’s just infuriating that they would do something like this.

If I could give no stars I would. It took me 5 hour in the LOBBY in the Er to even get Tylenol for pain. The doctor refused to let any patients in the rooms. Then I make an appointment to see a normal doctor & the doctor calls off, they didn’t let me know until I was in the office. So I reschedule & they tell me the time, I have them send me a conformation, when I get here it was actually scheduled for an hour before I was told. This place is absolute trash. DO NOT GO HERE.

Always caring and nice especially when I have to bring my littles ones in.

Daughter woke up with a swollen eye. We went in, and the doctor told us it was some kind of rare infection and we needed to get her sent to a Chicago hospital; it was life or death. We got transferred to a different Indiana hospital, forced to take an ambulance for the 15 minute ride ($900), and when we talked to a doctor at the new hospital, he said the blood test results at Franciscan showed there was no infection at all. She had a bug bite and needed Benadryl. When I complained about this to Franciscan (not checking their own lab results before diagnosis), they claimed they followed best practices. Never go here.

Dr Cruz, is awesome he has done stitches and staples on me, and has patched up my son as well. Kala and Ashley are great nurses as well. My family doc is up stairs Dr. Alex Moline. He is also a great doctor. Very thoughtful and thorough.

Very fast & friendly! Amazing communication from the entire staff! They made me feel very welcome and they offered amazing resources for prescriptions.

Wife and I went in the non emergency section of this location for blood test, we were new in the area and thought it would be safe to trust the Franciscan name, since we used Franciscan facilities in the old neighborhood. Well let me tell you that both my wife and I were charged for emergency procedure and Im still paying for it two years later. I complained to the insurance co. and to Franciscan that this was a non- emergency procedure, but it was a one way conversation, and Im stuck with the bill. Staff are friendly, but I have found other friendly staff else where, at a fraction of the expense.

Had an allergic reaction and was having a hard time breathing. They got me in right away. They showed compassion and concern from the beginning and were so friendly and caring. God bless them!!

I think calling this place urgent care is misleading. We waited 3 hours (after being told it would only be a few more minutes) and finally gave up and left without being seen. From our experience this truly is an ER with ER wait times. You’re not seen based on the order you arrive like a typical urgent care, but based on what emergencies come through. And you sit in a different waiting area than the ER so you don’t really know how busy it is over there and that you’re in for a wait. That’s a big difference from what we’ve come to know as urgent care. I would have rather picked an actual urgent care facility where we had a chance of being seen. I guess I feel like if you are going to advertise it as urgent care, there should be a separate staff dedicated to seeing those patients.

Those who know me know I have a positive, optimistic outlook. To feel compelled to share this review demonstrates just how awful it was! Worst. Experience. Ever!!!!!!! Thank God I made it out of there to a competent doc and compassionate staff. Still on the mend. Hmmmm, didnt receive a follow up survey. I would really like to share suggestions.

An ambulance took my teenage son to the Chesterton Emergency Center. Their poor record keeping made it difficult to follow up with the medical insurance claim. In an effort to be sure they received payment, I request a bill to be sent to the listed address. Ann Martinez required me to come in to obtain a copy. Fortunately, another representative did assist. Ann Martinez was extremely rude and although she could help said she didnt feel like it and told me call someone else for assistance.

This is an very old Hospital building and no one cares to clean this up in a very long time.

The Dr. I was waiting on for 2 hours was not helpful or caring. Worst place for high rates and poor treatment.

Nearly 4 hours and counting at the Chesterton urgent care. The swab for a rapid strep test was completed within 20 minutes of our arrival. Seriously??? Almost 4 hours just to hear the doctor speak a few words with the results of the test?!!

If I could give this place zero stars I would! I went there after cutting my finger on a tuna can and it did not stop bleeding after two hours. All they did was give me some gauze, a roll of tape, and a tetanus shot. I get my bill 1 month later and its $831!!!! Even though its advertised as an urgent care/Emergency room I have a charge on my bill for emergency room that costs $613. The average cost of an urgent care visit is $75-$150. I have called billing TWICE and they keep saying its my insurance companies fault because they billed it as urgent care. However, the bill is from Franciscan, not my insurance company! When I called my insurance company, they said it was billed as an urgent care and reimbursed as an urgent care so there shouldnt be an emergency room charge! Sounds like insurance fraud to me! Especially since there billing department said they get these complaints ALL THE TIME! Do not support this terrible health system. They are monopolizing this region and should really be put out of business for taking advantage of people that do not know any better! Most people would just pay the illegitimate charges this crooked company charged them, but I will continue to share my experience in hopes of it not happening to anyone else!

A Valuable Medical Facility to the Town. Good care, usually I dont wait too long at urgent care.

My husband came here after sitting in out local emergency room for 2 hours with no end in sight of when he would be called back. Within a couple mins of us being there . A nurse came out and got use and got use to triage and then a room. Shelly( nurse) came right in. She let us know there was several people ahead of use but doctor would be in as soo. As he can. I wish i remembered the doctor name. But he was amazing. Shelly came right in and got an iv going and got him meds. She came in several times to check on him. Start to finish we were there maybe 2 hours. Sent him with meds for home. We from here on out will drive the extra 10 mins and drive to chesterton.

I have always very good treatment, fast, you walk in and they are treating you before your even registered. Not like Porter where your going to be there for hours and get misdiagnosed. I had experience at porter where I took my 13 yr old to porter waited all night for them to misdiagnosed her with a uti infection. Needless to say the next morning I brought her to Franciscan where she was immediately diagnosed with kidney stones and sent to childrens memorial hospital in south bend. This experience was back in 2014.

This place worked hard at stabilizing my 9 day old baby who had RSV before she was rushed to south bend childrens memorial. I would recommend them to anyone. They have a great staff.

My experience was amazing. I was in and out and treated with the utmost respect and care. GWEN IS AMAZING!

I was recently in there with my friend. She was in sever pain because she thought she was having a miscarriage and they were taking their sweet time helping her. Didnt do any kind of exam until we had been there for an hour and a half. Then she had an ultrasound done and they waited another 30 minutes or so to give her the results. Turns out she has an ectopic pregnancy. They were still really slow at doing anything for her. Finally they decided to send her to another hospital to have emergency surgery. After waiting for almost 3 hours they want to rush and make sure she gets the care she needed. I will never go into that hospital.

Very unhappy with the care from ther dr. I would not recommend this facility.

I came here with my infant son when he was sick. I went to porter just a few days before with him and got sent home saying he just had a cold. Plus I waited 5 hours there! When he didnt get better I took him here. We were taken back to a private room with no wait and seen right away. We were checked up on often and the staff was very kind. They found out what was wrong and gave me everything I needed to take care of him. I have been back and still will in the future!

Great emergency hospital thats close to us cheese town people.

Everyone but the actual doctors do their jobs.. Hence the 3 stars..If youre in any real pain, youre better off just skipping the $1,500 bill and the script for ibuprofen and just staying home.

Very rude doctors don’t care about their patients at all. Came in with an ear infection awhile ago and a small cough. They prescribed me with a cough syrup and I ended up breaking out head to toe in hives. Then passing out cold in the middle of the night. My mother just went last night with an allergic reaction and could hardly breath because her throat was closing and they said she was fine and it wasn’t getting worse so they don’t need to treat it. But she told them multiple times that it WAS getting worse so they treated it anyways. There was also a nurse that came in and was throwing stuff around and asked what was wrong she said “ I just really do not wanna be here” yeah never going here ever again.

Terrible Experience! Checked 3 miserable kids in at 3pm, and we were to told 1hr wait which turned into 2.5hrs just to get into a room so we could wait an additional 30minutes before seeing a doctor.

Would like to start this off by stating the security guard on duty (old man with glasses, claims is a retired police officer) is a douche and doesnt let anyone talk and wont give you any help, I had to get him worked up to make him call back to nurse stations to figure out if my mother had any bleeding on her head from a fall and what the situation is because the time frame I got was 30 mins and it took well over and hour and a half. They change their rules up on the spot, telling you 2 members of family can come back, but then when its time for that to happen, only one can all of a sudden. This place is terrible, if you have a scary serious situation going on and can possibly make it to Porter Regional or Michigan City hospital, I would strongly advise so. They will NOT give you updates on a mannerly time frame and will just leave you wondering in fear. I understand lots are going on with saving a life and getting things done, but they can at least give updates after things get done. And give more approximate time frames. As far as security guard being a huge jerk, they should retire him and get someone who can be more people friendly and understanding and need feed in to peoples anxiety and make situations worse. Screw this place, I hope it runs down to the ground.

Our experience was AWFUL, waiting and more waiting. Registration desk is a joke, extra papers and never took my co-pay even though I asked about it. Refused to give an approximate wait time. My children had to receive penicillin shots, these nurses handled it so poorly it was traumatizing. Never had a medical professional treat them this way or pull their clothes down them self. This place is mainly an ER and shouldnt be providing urgent care services until they have more staff and space to do so. This is by far the worst Fransiscan Health facility in the area

I was treated absolutely horribly by two nurses and a doctor who refused to believe something was wrong with my arm because they did not feel I was in enough pain. They repeatedly tried telling me I was wrong and did not want to do an x-ray. They finally did and my bone was actually out of place! They then barely mentioned this as they said past fractures were causing the pain, oh and your bones out of place. Then went back to past fractures. They treated me so badly I was crying! I will never go there again!

TERRIBLE. Spent almost five hours (most of it in waiting room) only to be told they didnt know what was going on. Prescribed me meds(not knowing what the problem was), gave me follow-up info, and sent me home. Follow-up info was wrong and the hospital wont take my calls or help clear it up saying they are too busy to help me. BTW while sitting forever in the waiting room, I checked what the Current ER wait time and it said 2 minutes. Yeah, right.

Do not go here! This facility is a stand-alone ER, which means they charge ER prices but have to ship you to a full hospital if you have a serious problem. We went to have my daughters eye, which was swollen shut, looked at. The doctor quickly diagnosed a serious infection and insisted on transferring my daughter to a nearby hospitals pediatric ward. When I arrived there, the hospital doctor said my daughter had an allergic reaction to a mosquito bite. He came to that conclusion based on blood work sent over by Chesterton Health that showed she had no infection. We ended up spending 36 hours in the hospital with multiple blood tests, antibiotics, a CT scan and an ambulance ride for something that cleared up after one dose of Benadryl. I brought the misdiagnosis to the attention of Chesterton Health and made it clear that the blood work at their facility showed no infection and yet the doctor diagnosed her with an infection anyway. I received a letter from Chesterton Health stating, “It has been determined that the standard of care was met based of signs and symptoms and test results.” If that visit met their standard of care, their standards are not high enough.

Second visit in a row sitting in little box of a room waiting for dr now for 45 min. Why make an appt and then wait an hour for service? Sounds like a scheduling disservice.

I just want to say that this urgent care was honestly the best care that I have had in northwest Indiana! I am burn and raised in this area and I am sooooooooo thankful that this place was as responsive and friendly as it was. I had an allergic reaction that could have taken my life. My throat was closing due to it and Gwen my nurse, whom was amazing and extremely friendly and caring, as well as Robert Sego saved my life! And they did it promptly and with smiles to make ME feel comfortable and calm! I thank them from the bottom of my heart and am so blessed to have had them to care for me! The check in Secretary that day was super friendly and greeted me with smiles as well...even though I had a huge weird eye! Haha haha! Thanks again to the wonderful staff here in Chesterton!! We are frequent flyers with three accident prone children.Every visit has been an excellent experience.

Not happy with inconclusive diagnosis of my 2-yr-old son. Left with no more information than I arrived with. Friendly staff, which is why I give two stars.
