This office is highly discriminatory. I was told that I could not be seen for a broke ankle because I was a “Total Access Urgent Care” patient….despite the fact that my primary care physician, hematologist and Ov are all at St. Luke’s. Three generations of woman in my family have received their primary healthcare and Dr. Scortino refused to see me. When I expressed how I felt about being discriminated against…I was given a simple, nonchalant…”ok” response. No apology at all….I would never refer anyone…in fact my Mother’s care from the office is being withdrawn. People should not be treated this way.

My elderly mother had a left hip replacement and pinned right hip performed by Dr. Sciortino within four months. He did a wonderful job on both hips and was able to interact with my feisty mother in a pleasant and professional manner. A good friend had both hips replaced by Dr. S and says she will sing his praises forever. Should I have any orthopedic problems, my first call will be to Robert Sciortino. Peggy Lewis

Dr Sciortino has treated or done surgery on three friends with another in line for hip replacement. ALL are thrilled with his skill and professionalism and most of all their results! I know him personally and all I can say to the guy who is complaining about the shot in his mothers knee is that Dr Sciortino is pragmatic and practical. You oughta be glad he alleviated your mothers pain. You can still get an MRI but why let her suffer in the interim? When its time for my hip to be replaced hell be the one to do it!

I would add 100 STARS if I could! I had my left hip replaced 6 weeks ago by Dr. Scirotina using the SUPERPATH method of surgery. In my opinion, it should be the ONLY acceptable method. We no longer remove the gall bladder the old way. Why would anyone prefer to have their stomachs cut open instead of 3 tiny holes?. In much the same way, what patient needing a new hip would say, no thank you, doctor, I prefer you also cut my muscles and dislocate my hip so it takes longer to heal. I am 64 years old and ashamed to say overweight. I worried about an extra slow recovery because of my size. But, I did ALL my pre and post operative exercises and my recovery has been amazing! By the second week, I was walking 1 mile each day without cane or walker! I havent been able to do that for a year! The only problem I had was stomach upset from the paid meds. I quit the pain meds when I got home and really did not feel that I needed any. I am so happy and pain-free!!

I had never had surgery before, so I had no idea what to expect -- would I be flat on my back for two weeks with my husband bringing me soup? I had used glucosamine to cope with hip pain since 2005, but had reached the point of diminishing return. Dr. Sciortinos x-ray showed that my hip joint was bone against bone -- cartilage was gone. I knew PT wasnt going to regrow the cartilage and neither were cortisone shots. My health was good, but I had started cutting my walks shorter and shorter, which meant probable weight gain and, consequently, the threat of diabetes that is so prominent in my family. So I asked the doctor for his next available Superpath hip replacement appointment (about 90 days away). About a month before surgery, I attended the Stride for Success preparation session, which was enormously helpful -- SO MUCH EYE-OPENING INFORMATION -- dont miss it. I did the pre-surgery exercises diligently, and boy did it pay off. Surgery went without a hitch. I had an epidural plus propofol, so it wore off quickly after surgery with no long-term fogginess. I was very paranoid about opioid addiction, but I did take oxycodone for 24 hours, which allowed me to get some much-needed rest. I took one dose of hydrocodone the second day, but it didnt agree with me, so I didnt fill that prescription. I had some Tramadol at home from dental surgery and I used exactly four pills total that week to sleep. Beyond that, I took Tylenol and Celebrex for six weeks, plus daily aspirin for blood thinning. Was I totally pain free? No, but I could cope comfortably. The day after surgery, I was able to navigate down to physical therapy using a walker and I was able to climb stairs just fine. Honestly, I had no pain in the hip joint at all following surgery -- it was fixed. But with Superpath, the muscles, tendons and nerves get stretched out of the way during surgery (but not cut!!), so it felt like a BIG, DEEP bruise on my hip. Naturally, the incision was tender. I went home to my two-story house the day after surgery, using a walker (for walking) and a cane (for stairs). I went to PT five days after surgery (without the walker) and the therapist couldnt believe how mobile I was -- watching me walk, he said it was hard to tell which hip had had surgery. I did my PT exercises diligently and was able to stop PT after about 2 weeks, although Im still doing the exercises. Six days after surgery, I went downtown for a video edit session that required me to climb a flight of industrial-height stairs (using the cane). The next day I only used the cane on the climb up. The third day I just used the handrail. Its now been two months since surgery. The incision is healed, but still tender. I have my stamina back for long dog walks and cant believe how incredibly well things have gone. Everything Dr. Sciortino told me beforehand was exactly how it turned out. I cant tell you how many times I told people that I was going to have hip replacement and they said, wait, dont do it until you talk to this surgeon I know. Hes the best. 100% of the time their surgeon turned out to be Dr. Sciortino. One more thing that my PT told me on my second visit, If I were your surgeon, I would march you through the waiting room of other orthopedic surgeons saying this could be you one week after surgery. Im sure this therapist has seen a lot of recoveries, so this made me feel like mine was going about as well as could be. If I ever need another surgery, I will definitely go to Dr. Sciortino. Im thrilled with my results.

Dr. Sciortino performed an arthroscopic surgery on my knee about 2 weeks ago after diagnosing a meniscus tear, small fracture, and osteonecrosis of my femoral condyle. Dr. Sciortino persevered in diagnosing the cause of the ongoing pain and inflammation after his conservative treatment involving a steroid injection into the knee. Dr. Sciortino was available to answer all of my questions related to medication and post operative care. I highly recommend Dr. Sciortino, he is an outstanding surgeon, excellent in the area of patient education and care.

Dr. Sciortino replaced my right hip in November using the Superpath method. I was walking the same day and back at work in 3 weeks. I need my other hip replaced and will be returning to Dr. Sciortino.

My Mother, NEVER having any issues in her 77 yrs of life, had major knee pain for about 5 days and couldnt walk or put any pressure on the knee. She was scared so we took her the ER.. she was afraid it might be a blood clot or a meniscus tear… The ER talked to the Drs office and they ( the dr.) said to bring her right into the office and shell be seen by her dr…. Her Doctor was in surgery so they had Dr Sciortino see her…. We asked him why an MRI couldnt be ordered. We also added, wouldnt that tell whats going on in the knee? He quickly and, to me, in a sarcastic voice says so you want her to be in pain and schedule an MRI at a later date, maybe she cant even get in right away OR do you want a shot now and hopefully see if it goes away?? Well …. smarta&&, Id like the MRI done and then WELL ALL know what is REALLY going on in her knee! Thats all.. He put a cortisone shot in the knee and had her go home…..As soon as he walked out of the room my mom said to me… Well, I surely didnt like him at all… I hope I dont have to see him ever again.… He seems like he doesnt like his job at all.You all may like him but we had a terrible First experience with him!!!

I had surgery for a right hip replacement 13 days ago. I am walking over a mile a day, and walking normal for the first time in over a year. The recovery has been short and hoping to get back to spinning class when PT says I can. Dr S does not say a lot, but results speak volumes!
