I have gone through a lot of doctors over the last few years looking for someone like Dr. Paulsen that takes the appropriate time for each pt. She definitely works with the pt in developing a care plan involving input from the pt. Hard to find that these days unfortunately.

I moved to Chesapeake in 2016 and started looking for a new primary care Dr. I happened to select Dr Paulsen since shes close to my house. Since Ive started going to her, I have nothing but positive things to say about her and the staff at Tidewater Family Clinic. In my experience, shes VERY thorough, very proactive in my care, and calls back with test/XRay results as required (unless I already have a follow up appt scheduled in which she reviews the results there). Im seen on time for my appointments, and rarely spend time sitting around the exam room waiting for her to examine me. In addition, shes very in tune with my family history of medical issues and proactive in her approach with me as my health relates to those issues.

Dr. Paulsen has been wonderful. She never appears rushed and is always attentive to whats going on with my health. I feel confident in her opinions and suggestions and that is important to me.

I’ve been going to Dr. Paulsen since 2010 and she’s been a terrific caring doctor. I’ve been through gall bladder surgery and non-hodgkins lymphoma issues and she has been spot on in diagnosing these issues early on. She has a great funny personality and I like the idea that it’s a family practice.

I was a patient of Dr paulsens for a few years but recently left the practice. I felt like she had me go in way to frequently for no reason but to get money from co payments and lab work. I take BP medicine and protonix ( heartburn) and normally a yearly check and prescription renewal was sufficient. Not for this office every 3-4 months and if not she literally would cancel prescriptions from my online service. I went back to at least get my prescriptions approved and they charged me $35 for a missed appt that I never booked or knew I had. I had a valid prescription until dec 2019 and she has canceled again - I would think that should be illegal.

I wish I could give a 0 rating. She doesnt call to let you test or xray results even if there is nothing wrong. A call would be appreciated one way or another. She says the xray shows nothing but its obvious that there is something wrong with my shoulder if it werent it wouldnt hurt as bad as it does. Cancelled all future appts with her. So I guess its back to the drawing board to find a Dr that cares.

I came to Dr. Paulsen over 7 years ago because I wanted someone to be my general practitioner and my health manager. I fell in love with the whole practice. She continues to give me her full un-rushed attention. Definitely worth the wait! She sees the importance in bloodwork and isnt too quick to prescribe medications. She respects our families less is more approach. She now sees 3 generations of my family and countless referral patients. I wouldnt trust my overall family wellness to anyone else!

Be careful, this family practice has some unusual financial practices. If you use a credit card to pay your co-pay they will charge you an additional fee of $2.00. As a business owner myself I find this unacceptable to pass this fee to the consumer, its a business cost for the business to pay. If you misplace, lose, or cant find a written prescription and your pharmacy has to call the doctor for their approval you can expect to pay an additional charge of $10.00 for this service. The reason they give is that it takes the doctor time to approve the phone request. Well what about the time I (we) spend waiting in the little private room for the doctor. I dont charge Dr. Paulsen for my wait time which has been as long as an half an hour to a full hour without anyone coming in to update me on the wait. Yet Im charged for the time it takes to okay a script. Is her time more important than my time? This is the first and only time that I have misplaced a script. I have been a patient for 1 year and have an appointment every 2-3 months. I have been a good patient, listening to her advice, taking my meds, and paying my bills on time. Dr. Paulsen is a good doctor that I liked enough to refer her to family and friends but as of today I must fire her as my doctor. Something is not right at this business; they seem overly interested in finding unique and unheard of ways to get money from their patients. My doctor friends were shocked and confirmed that they have never heard of either of these practices. Its sad that some doctors are more interested in money than helping their patients. Also, the office manager that resides in a glass box off of the check in/check out area is close minded, unprofessional and basically talks without saying anything. She needs to stay in her glass box and not speak. So beware as I dont want any other consumers to be taken advantage of. If you feel you are being wrongly charged for services dont be afraid to speak out, we do not have to put up with this kind of treatment.
