Highly do not recommend them! I scheduled an appointment for a neuter of my kitten. Paid the deposit to hold the appointment. Waited a month and a half. Dropped off my kitten on the appointment date only to be called and told I don’t have an appointment. No compassion or apologies! They said either I could reschedule for about another month and a half or get my deposit back. Very dissatisfied!

Ill admit, my dog is my pride and joy, but when my regular vet quoted a price of 700-900 for a simple neuter, my jaw dropped. A surgery I know as a prior vet tech to take only a few minutes. I was nervous and skeptical to take him to the Humane Society for a much more affordable neuter. I pictured a horrendous event in my own mind due to the desensitization of sheer number of procedures.Neutering also was not my choice due to its negative impacts on a dogs extended health, longevity, and systemic impacts. But since every puppy care and dog sport facility forces it for their own convenience, I knew I had no choice. But honestly, the experience has been a good one, considering my unwillingness. They were friendly, and at least in my view, caring. They used a scrotal incision rather than the pre-scrotal which seems to be both less stressful and quicker to heal for my pup. Were 4 days post op and things are well. Hes back to his normal self and his surgery site looks clean and well on its way to healed.

They did great on spaying my kitten, in all it was good. On the other hand they basically gave my cat fleas. We went in 8 days ago for her appointment. We come back and and a few days later she’s itching like crazy. Went a couple more days just to see fleas jumping off of her onto her blanket. We called and they said there’s nothing we can do except to come in a buy there flea prevention. Highly unsatisfied..

Very easy cat adoption. I think it is great that the adopted animals have been spayed or neutered. They have had full check ups, shots, vaccination, etc. Amazing staff, helpful and knowledgeable.

When I first moved to Virginia I was looking to adopt another cat and gave the Chesapeake Humane Society a try! The experience was phenomenal! The room that the cats are in allows you to interact with them and get to know them before making a decision. After successfully adopting one we ended up adopting another from them a year later. We even went on to foster through CHS which was a fantastic experience in itself! I highly recommend coming here if you are looking to adopt or if you are interested in fostering! I added pictures of my two babies formerly known as Lyric and Salazar, thank you to the fosters that took care of them until they came to their forever home!

My dog Maximus saw Dr Bagg today for his vaccines, bloodwork, and exam. While hes been going there all of his life, this was the first time hed met most of the new staff.He was very happy to see everyone and they were great with him. Hes been known to not the easiest to work with, but he took it all in stride today, never growled once.Well definitely come back to see Dr Bagg again!! 🙂(Photo of Maximus relaxing after his visit)

If you come to Chincoteague and miss staying at the Channel Bass Inn, you have really missed out. The lodgings are lovely. Many Antiques and beautiful English China. The food is spectacular. Breakfasts are a must. The main attraction is really the hospitality. Both Barbara and David go well out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable. We chose them because they are pet friendly and believe me they are. They doted on our new rescue, Layla. We enjoyed shopping, kayaking and biking on the island. We will certainly be back.

Our dog got spayed at the Chesapeake humane society last week and it went great. The staff were nice and reassuring. Her incision is healing well. But, A few days ago she came down with a cough, took her to the vet and turns out she has kennel cough. Assuming she picked it up here as she has not been out since way before her spay. Now all of our animals in the house have kennel cough. Cheers to another $200+ in vet bills and medicine!

Worst experience of my life. They abused my bunny, he hasnt been the same since he went there to get neutered. He is fearful and bites now. Thank you so much for RUINING my well behaved rabbit. Service was unprofessional and they most definitely man handled my bunny. He is a completely different rabbit and NOT for the better. I will be telling everyone my experience without remorse. Currently Grieving my once happy bunny. Dont go here, they barely even have room for DOGS let alone bunnies. im almost absolutely certain my bunny was left alone w larger animals. Im disgusted.

I email all of my dog vaccines record and now there dont have it. Drop off my dog this morning to be sprayer and not one person said anything about missing vaccine and then at 10 this morning I got a call from them saying record are missing. I also sent my income and there dont have it as well so now I have to pay full price Unbelievable.

I adopted a Great Pyrenees named Charles that I renamed to Sunny as he brings Sun to my life and my Service dog is named Daisy. He is an excellent and friendly boy that is fitting in well.

I adopted our new kitty, Harry from the Chesapeake Humane Society 5/22/19. Everyone was just terrific and friendly. We were able to go back and hang out with the kitties and interact with them while we were introduced to our Harry. The animals all looked happy and well taken care of. Thank you to the staff for making our adoption process easy and enjoyable!

I am skeptical of any veterinarian who is unknowledgeable about certain breeds of cats. I should have made sure she was familiar with my breed of cat before she butchered her and charged me for it. Take your animals to a reputable vet and pay the extra monies. She didnt give a darn about me or my pet. Dont waste your time. I will never use them for any services nor donate any more money.3/23/21 I left message with your front desk. I am thorough when it comes to the care of my kitten. I took her to the vet the day before the surgery where they recorded her weight. Your scale weighed her 1 pound heavier than their scale. They calibrate their scales regularly so there is no issues with their clients. I dont know if your equipment was faulty however you charged me for fees that werent warranted. I am moving on because to this day she hasnt gained anymore weight past their last findings. I stand by what I stated and I did have to take her to aftercare complications after her surgery. Thanks

I called around to a few vets to check on the prices of getting my dog spayed. They were able to get me in and at such an affordable rate! The employees had wonderful customer service and even called to follow up on Zoey the next day. They are really great and I will certainly be bringing my pups there for all future check ups!

They provided great service for neutering and microchip. Technicians were very caring and helpful. Explained everything in detail. However, I was called to pickup my animals and had to wait about 25 minutes so dont get there before 3.

We utilize the vaccine clinics here and the staff is just amazing. Friendly!!! Appointment is required with Covid restrictions in place. They picked up my pups from the car, took them in and brought them back out to me. The pups were happy, my wallet was happy. Win, win.

Put in application to adopt and got no response. tried to call more than 6 times to get ahold of someone, no response. was really looking forward to setting up a meeting. the dogs are no longer available. we literally didn’t even get a response for our application like the website states. very sad. made sure to call during office hours soooo many times and nothing. :(

Have had several pets spayed/neutered at the humane society. They are phenomenal! Despite the wait to get an appointment sometimes, once you drove off your pet to be treated, they are kind, patient and very kind! Highly recommended !

They take excellent care of the animals. Mine went in for a dental cleaning this morning. They ran blood work prior to sedation and found elevated liver enzymes. Their going to do further testing prior to doing the procedure and will update me on her condition. I had no clue, checked into symptoms of this, she hasnt displayed any of them. Shes just a 7 year old pitbull, .very friendly and playful. I appreciate the care they take and for being kept in the loop of her progress throughout the day.

I foster kittens and deal mostly with Becky and Dyanna. They are both super and help me to take the best care I can of the foster kittens. Love them all at the humane society!

Super nice people. Went there to adopt a cat named snookems (now named gracie), after losing our 17yr old cat. Talked me right in to adopting a unique orange cat with a black spot on her head (now named chloe) since they were apparently friends. Real glad we did, they are great cats, well behaved, yet playful. Their cat room i very well maintained, clean, and the cats look very well cared for. As you can see from the pics, these 2 are quite at home here lol. Gave me a free xtra cat carrier, since we had only planned to get the grey one, to take the orange one, some xtra food as well. Highly recommend this place.

My puppy was spayed today at CHS. I have lived in Chesapeake for 15 years and have always been appreciative of the work done by the Chesapeake Humane Society. The staff is caring and works hard to offer affordable services to pet owners in our community. As of today, CHS has spayed four dogs and a cat in 15 years. I am happy to recommend and support this organization.

This place has a variety of animals in their cages.

This shelter claims to be a no kill shelter however that is completely false.we had to surrender our dog due to an incident with another one of our dogs.we specially chose them because we wanted her to have a chance.she was a very sweet non aggressive dog.we were assured they would try as hard as they could to find her a home.we called several times to get an update but no one ever answered.less than a week later a family friend went to check up out of curiosity and was told she was put down as wished by her owners.this organization lies and no longer has my trust or support.

Our rescue has been using Chesapeake Humane Society for all our spay/neuter/microchip/hernia repair/dental. As you can imagine, we have entire litters going in at once sometimes and the staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and work hard to get the animals in on a timely basis. In at 7:30 and we have been called as early as 11am to pick up our animals at 12:00 noon.We have never been treated with anything but respect and we have never seen an unhappy pet owner either.We have many choices of where we could take our animals and even though we are based out of North Carolina, we drive the 45 minutes because we trust Chesapeake Humane Society with our animals. We wholeheartedly recommend CHS to our family, friends and adopters and we take our own personal pets to them as well.If you care about the health and welfare of your animal(s), get your spay/neuter/microchip/dental and hernia repairs done by them. Need heart worm/flea/tick/parasite medications? They have them there. Need shots? Try one of their clinics. I know they have them on Friday and Saturdays for sure and possibly other days as well. Simply go online and check out their schedule.We wont ever go anywhere else.

Wow! This place has cheap shot for your animals less then half the price at a veterinarian, wait time a little long must get there early. They are very attentive the staff is great you can tell they care about your animal. The Service is wonderful must go for all your pets medical needs.

My corgi had surgery and extensive dental work done here and I couldnt be more pleased. The doctor and her staff are doing exceptional work and I am grateful for how they took care of my Buddy. Lastly and also important to mention is that their prices for services are significantly lower than all of the local veterinary businesses.

This place is terrible! Made an appointment to bring our Doberman there for neutering a week in advance, dropped him off early at 8am and at 12pm received a call saying they could not do the procedure because he needed a certain blood test done, but the test takes up to 3 days to get results, so they cannot do the procedure today. Went and picked him up and he was upbeat to see me. Get in the truck and it goes downhill. I see how lethargic he is and he starts to have diarrhea in my truck on my seats. A nasty clear mess that didnt even really smell. Long story, they started giving him the meds for surgery and they never told me so I took him to the vet and they were beside themselves that this was not disclosed. I highly recommend paying your vet full price, this place is incompetent to do the work they are doing. The staff could care less about the inconvenience they are causing. Yes maybe its the best for the dog they did not move forward but they should really pay attention to what they are doing and what type of animals they are working with so they know what may need to be done leading up to surgery. Its not all about the money, and they just want yours! Just PAY YOUR Vet and if you cant afford your vet maybe you shouldnt have a pet you can not afford. The people that love this place so much really just like the discount!

The care my 3 dogs have received at the Chesapeake Humane Society has been second to none! From the time we walk in the door until the time I walk out, I am treated with courtesy and respect and my 3 babies are treated with absolute love. They know me...and they know all of my dogs by name. I have been accused of being a bit overboard with my 3 little babies but none of the staff have acted like I am even a bit crazy over my dogs! They understand that I just want the absolute best care for them. They listen, intently, to my concerns and they actually care about everything I am saying. I have been coming here for years with many different dogs. The customer service is amazing and the vet techs/vet are wonderful.I have had three rescues over 15 years and they have received excellent care from day one.I read the other reviews and I understand their concerns about not being able to go back with their dogs when they are treated. That would be nice and at a regular vet where space is at a premium and you pay more to have that space singled out for you it is made available but in a setting where the entire city is being serviced it is not feasible to accommodate each owner and their emotional needs while providing a community service. The Vet Techs do try to reassure you. I know because I am a helicopter Pet Mom - Yup thats me.The services are amazing and the Vets that volunteer their time are tops in the HR area.Please come and use theur services and maybe contribute a few extra dollars to help a animal buddy receive medical treatment. Much Love!!!

It’s great they offer low cost vaccines, but they should really allow you to go back with your pets while they receive the vaccines. Most animals will feel anxiety and be scared going into a strange room without their owner... My dog did not want to follow the vet tech and then was scared once the restrained him and their response was to charge me an added $20 aggressive dog fee. Ive never had issues with my dog if I go to the exam room with him. They lack compassion and understanding for the dogs individual needs.

Last week I had the Good fortune of taking my Maltese to the Humane Society Clinic for a dental cleaning. From the first encounter I knew I was a Place that loved animals. The Place was spotless, and smelled fresh as a Daisy even with the free coming cat room. They took my little Guy back to surgery at 7:30 am and I had him back at 11:15 am. He had dad an extraction and they had even given him pain meds. The front Desk folks are so pleasant and welcoming they put me at ease right away.The day after the cleaning they even called to check on my Boy. I dont know what more any one could ask.I am so grateful that they offer quality care at a reasonable price as I am on a fixed income. Thank you Doesnt seem to be enough to say for their excellent care.I dont know where some of these people are going but it certainly is not this Humane Society. Thanks again for every thing to those who cared for Stanley.

I needed help with some kittens and their mother that my dog found under our shed. The staff told me what I should do, who I should contact to come pick them up, and even a couple of phone numbers to help me. By the way...no kittens or cat were harmed:)

Had dog & cats spayed/neutered & vaccinated there. Staff is nice & they keep it clean. They have seating outside & inside. A big potty area & a doggy doo clean up station. My only complaint, which isnt really on them, but the grass had a lot of stickers in it that hurt my puppys tender paws one time, so just be careful of that.

My 7 month old yellow lab was spayed here last week. They took such great care of her, and made a follow-up call the next day!! I highly recommend the Chesapeake Humane Society.

The veteran was good but the front desk wasnt prepared for owners picking up their animals. They had too many people at one time to pick up the pets.

Great place to get your animals taken care of. Weve had multiple spay/neuters done here and have never experienced nothing but great care.

We adopted our dog from a rural animal control facility. They do not vaccinate or spay/neuter before adopting pets out. A friend of mine referred me to the care clinic. She had her barn cats spayed/neutered. The clinic has been great. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. I had a surgical appointment within a week, the check in process was smooth, the surgical update and check out were just as easy. I am glad the clinic was available so that I may rescue a pet from a shelter, be a responsible pet owner and save a few dollars in the process. I recommend them to everyone!

Staff is friendly and very understanding!

The only problem was we called them after we left and no one answered the phone for over 2 hours and then when they opened back up we never got a call returning our voicemail until almost three days later. We ended up finding a cat from another shelter that worked well with our family due to lack of response.

The receptionists were so slow and so rude , it took 2 of them to check people in. And the receptionist to check out was even slower. Took over 10 minutes to log all of the dogs information in the computer, and even she wasnt the nicest person either. The vet @ one point came out and gave all of the ADULTS in the waiting room rules( i.e. being nice to the receptionists because it was vet tech appreciation week, and dont get up to ask how long the wait is going to be, etc) Will never take my dogs back their again, absolutely disappointed in the service and staff, we have always supported the humane society and will continue but definitely will not support the vet clinic

Wonderful facility. The staff is always helpful and friendly. We started bringing our Darla here after a neighbor recommended it. I have never had a problem.

This facility is an amazing place with a tremendous staff and unbeatable prices. We have had all of our pets treated here including vaccines, spaying/neutering and micro-chipping. If you dont mind waiting in line for vaccines, the price and the care provided cant be beat.
