My general experience was excellent. The valet parking and location of the Plaza Surgery Center made getting there a breeze. The ladies out front in registration and everyone in the surgical suite was top notch and made me glad I had chosen to have surgery there. In the OR the anesthesiologist, the surgeon, the nurses and techs were all caring, skilled, compassionate, and reassuring.My only issue at all was with a nurse named Teresa who took my history, administered some oral medication, and started my IV. She was not compassionate at all, and if she is hateful that early in the morning to her first patients of the day, how terribly must she act toward those unfortunate souls scheduled later? When taking my history she barked questions at me without looking at me, then would wheel around and stare at me as though incredulous at my answers, as if I had said the stupidest thing possible. On more than one occasion she said, “Well, your doctor may cancel your surgery because you did that!” even as I was trying to tell her that it was the surgeon who had instructed me to do exactly what I had done. She made up her mind and responded first without taking the time to listen to my response. It was demeaning and stressful without having to be. On a couple of responses she stormed out of the room and I could hear her, in a raised voice, saying, “Dr. So-and-so’s patient in room X did this!!! Should we call him and postpone her surgery?” She asked as though she thought I were stupid, and yelled it as though I could not hear her, sitting from 15 feet away. She never gave me any encouragement or offered any comfort or sympathy. I truly hope that she was just having a very bad day and that she doesn’t treat patients every day with the disdain and uncaring attitude with which she treated me.Everything else about my experience at the Plaza Surgical Center was excellent.
