I am so incredibly angry at Cigna Health Insurance company right now they promised they would cover my daughter’s appendectomy only to find out it was all lies. My insurance contract with Cigna Health Insurance company specifies in plain English: “coverage for appendectomy is considered medically necessary when criteria are met.” Doesn’t a three year old little girl writhing around in pain qualify as Cigna Health Insurance company’s definition of “medically necessary when criteria are met”, especially when she can’t eat or use the bathroom for almost 2 weeks prior to the surgery!??? Well, Cigna didn’t seem to think so they are not covering ANY PART WHATSOEVER of my daughter’s appendectomy surgery which she had to have done. At first, my wife and I thought it was just severe indigestion since we went out to an Italian restaurant the night before my daughter’s symptoms began. Nope, it was actually full blown appendicitis and our pediatrician even indicated that we were lucky enough to catch it in time before my daughter’s appendix could have burst. Our pediatrician was great, the hospital we went to was great and provided my toddler with exceptional care. Our insurance company Cigna Health Insurance however, was NOT great. They could not care less about the people (you and I) who feed their fat paychecks with their overpriced insurance premiums, so long as it doesn’t affect them directly. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out how Cigna Health Insurance company continues having successful quarters with record profits each year, it’s coming at the expense of you and I!!!! Or actually in this case, at the expense of vulnerable kids who don’t deserve to be exploited by Cigna Health Insurance and their greedy insurance denial techniques which they constantly use. So in conclusion, I am obviously VERY grateful that my daughter is making a full recovery, is active and playful, and is no longer in pain. The part which I’m obviously NOT at all grateful for though are all of the medical bills in excess of $84,000 which our family has now been stuck with due to Cigna Health’s spineless lack of honesty, integrity, and playing fair. And you know honestly, I wouldn’t even generalize these sentiments to the entire insurance industry, because I really don’t feel that it is. I’ve had other insurance companies before, both through my work, my wife’s job, and even as an individual insured. Cigna Health Insurance however, takes the top prize in terms of dishonesty, lack of morals, blatant lies and bait-and-switch tactics, and obviously sheer greediness!!!! Do not, I repeat DO NOT EVER sign up with Cigna Health Insurance company, you will be so incredibly sorry that you did. Believe me, I’m living through a total financial nightmare right now, realizing that our American Dream is probably going to go up in smoke and we will probably have to file for medical bankruptcy… and all because Cigna Health Insurance wants to selfishly, greedily, and spinelessly put their own corporate profits first and foremost ahead of the quality of care that an innocent three year old girl is entitled to. P.S. And oh yeah…. now watch some company representative or official try to explain all of this away with their standard clichés of: “We are sorry to hear about your experience, please contact us so we can ‘look into your account’ and see what’s going on……” My response of course would be: Cigna Healthcare, you already had countless opportunities to ‘look into my account’ to see what’s going on, and you still chose ruthless dishonesty and greed over a little girl’s health. That would be my response back to Cigna.
