When I first called Stangel Functional Neurology, I was greeted by Erin, who was encouraging, oh-so-helpful, and competent. She set up the initial interview and evaluation.At that first appointment Dr. Stangel guided me with his questions, listened intently to random pieces of my history, and considered each bit of information, no matter how small. Along the way, nothing I said was ever dismissed. He took the pieces of a complicated puzzle and put them together into a plan that responded to my specific and ever-evolving needs.I travel a great distance to receive care from Dr. Stangel, and it is worth every mile. I do not know where I would be today if both my nurse practitioner and my former chiropractor had not recommended him. He is a physician of the highest caliber and the deepest calling. His great passion for his profession and the patients he serves is evidenced by his relentless pursuit of ongoing education.Every time I walk into his office I feel fortunate to be there. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity to heal. I could not hope for any better treatment than what I have received under Dr. Stangel’s care. If I could give 10 stars I would. I was in bad shape when I first came to see him from past concussions. I had been to every doctor and even big name hospitals for my symptoms. Symptoms including dizziness, balance issues, vertigo, bad vision problems, lightheaded, paranoia, anxiety, fear etc from head trauma. I was greeted with comfort and Compassion the moment I got in contact with them. After a very very thorough exam and questioning me I came back the next day. He said “ just know that you are going to be ok” He gave me a 1-4 month time frame to get me to 100%. I was hopeful but a little skeptical that he could do it that quick because of how bad I had been for 2 years. He has been spot on with everything he has told me. He gave me funny little exercises to do at home that sometimes I would think surely this couldn’t be helping anything lol. It took a while and sometimes my symptoms got worse and I was afraid i was a lost cause. He kept reassuring me to just follow the process and I did. I am a little over 2 months in and he has literally given me my life back. If I have come this far only half way through, I think he will have me at the finish line even sooner than expected. He is a tremendous Doctor and a tremendous person. He has listened to my worries and treated my problems like they were his own. His knowledge on how the brain works is unbelievable. He has fixed things I didn’t even know that were wrong. He is the man. If you are having any problems and you are wondering if he can help. Listen when I tell you he can. Make sure to just stick with what he says and it will work.

I was not sure where to turn after 3 years with a “good” orthopedist but no answers to my feet pain. My chiropractor recommended Dr. Stangel. I’m just through my first 2 weeks of therapy with him so it is too early to tell whether this will be the answer to resolving my pain but absolutely everything about both Dr. Stangel and his wife, Erin have impressed me. I live an hour & a half away but am committing to therapy 3x a week for a time with the hopes of resolving my issues without surgery. He has the perfect combination of being extremely (off the charts) knowledgeable about how our brains work but he also has the gifts of being caring, friendly, personable and able to communicate on a level I can understand. In my opinion that is a rare gift!

Dr. Stangel is very knowledgeable about the workings of the brain. He and his wife, Erin, are professional, helpful and friendly. I have always suffered from motion sickness and Ive experienced episodes of extreme vertigo that left me sick in bed for days. Since beginning treatment in June, I feel so much better. I didnt realize how much the dizziness was effecting my posture and balance.By working through Dr. Stangels treatment plan of adjustments and simple at home exercises, my back and ribs no longer hurt, Im walking straight and tall, and Im not dizzy anymore.His office is 2.5 hours away from me but with these amazing results I am committed to finishing my treatment and looking forward to a pain-free and vertigo-free life!!Thank you, Dr. Stangel and Erin. Professional staff (Erin is an excellent and caring executive assistant); very comfortable environment; Dr. Stangel is extremely knowledgeable and an invaluable resource for anyone with concussion or brain related or affected injuries. His evaluation was thorough. His explanation of his findings of that evaluation was thorough and his detailed plan of how to move forward with treatment (if you so desire, which I recommend). I have been going to him for only a very brief time now and have already seen noticeable improvement. He won’t sugar coat things but will also encourage you when he sees progress in things that he has special expertise and ability in. If he asks you to do a simple exercise or therapy, do it. It may seem silly but there is a method to what he is doing and it works. This is not a one size fits all treatment type of doctor. He will listen to and understand your individual patient needs and concerns and factor them into what he does in treating you. He is the type of doctor you can tell that cares. I have been to many doctors, taken many medications, done many therapies/treatments for my medical consition(s) in the past. Most of those things failed at least in the intermediate and long term. Dr. Stangel explains why this was the case. Now I still do have to take some medications for symptoms that I hope gradually wean off of but I expect that I will continue to see significant improvement from Dr Stangel, and we have only scraped the surface of my healing after years of suffering and being on both military Veterans’s disability and Social Security Disability because my diagnosis (es) and prognosis was so bleak.

Dr. Stangel was the first chiropractor I had ever seen which was 16 years ago. I saw him after I had been in a car accident. Not only did I get relief from the accident by his adjustments, he gave me a set of exercises to do and my back was 100 times better. Dr Stangel and wife Erin run this practice of Functional Neurology. Dr Stangel is highly motivated, well educated and dauntless. His chiropractic adjustments are very gentle. My chronic pain and migraines have been present for decades, and unsuccessfully helped by traditional medicine, other chiropractors or pain management. Though we’ve been working together with my complicated issues for 6 months, he helps me to persevere and remain hopeful through the challenges of chronic pain.

Dr. Stangel is a great addition to our concussion healing team. We are currently doing neuro-rehab therapy and see progress with each session. Its so important to wake up the brain and regain function after a traumatic brain injury, and Dr. Stangel is helping us to do just that. Where other neurologists would just prescribe medications for anxiety and headaches to address the symptoms, Dr. Stangel is helping us get to the root of the problem to heal the brain for the longterm. He has given us hope that the headaches, trouble with focus and reading, and moodiness resulting from a concussion will soon all be in the past. I highly recommend this office.
