The moment I walked in Emily was so welcoming at the reception desk. The nurses and x-ray technician were super detailed and sweet. My doctor Sam Dyer listened, examined and then talked me through what to expect about my knee. He was able to answer all of my questions. A truly top notch facility.

Dr. Merz rocks! I just passed my six-month check-up for a hip replacement with flying colors. Im back at the gym and pool six days a week, killing it for an old broad! The scar is minimal, although we discussed the possibility of disguising it with a clever tattoo like a zipper or needle and thread.

I am new to the area, and have been looking to establish with a new provider. I have visited other large groups and was dissatisfied. My wait time to see Dr. Marks in Chapel Hill was less than 10 minutes. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient. Instead of a Medical Assistant calling my name, Dr. Marks greeted me and escorted me to the room.Competency for a doctor with this specialty is a given. I was also looking for supportive, collaborative, and a provider who conveyed genuine concern. My search is over!Dr. Marks is the winner by a long shot - hes got it all!

EmergeOrtho is a professional and efficient practice. It was easy to schedule an appointment and it was the most productive doctors appointment Ive experienced. I had minimum waiting time in the lobby and examination room. I was in and out of there, even after getting x-rays, a cortisone shot and having all my questions answered by the doctor.

The x-ray technician was very helpful and had me back in the room quickly to meet with Dr. Viens. He went over my x-ray, explaining what had happened and what I could do to help alleviate the pain. I would not hesitate to schedule another appointment with Dr. Viens should the need arise.

I saw Dr. Marks recently, as a last gasp option for my lower back pain. PT and injections had not helped, and Im far too functional to consider surgery, so my ortho doctor referred me to Dr. Marks for pain management.I almost didnt keep the appt because I wondered what else he could suggest. But Im so glad I did. I had a late afternoon appt so figured hed be running late, but no - I barely sat down before he himself retrieved me from the waiting room. He was very casual in the room, taking so much time to ask questions, listen to me, and not just rely on reports he already had.He offered several suggestions, far more than I ever imagined, and the treatment we settled on to try first was done in the office. I can do that right now if you like. And I am already experiencing relief from my pain!! I cannot recommend Dr. Marks highly enough for his professionalism, his demeanor, his concern, and his open mind toward various options.

I wasted my time, a day from work-risking write up-my money, and wear and tear on my car plus gas money to come see the other Dr, just bc he had a faster opening. Wasnt worth it, unfortunately. Got no kind of help, and have to come right back next week to see the RIGHT Dr.-thats another 50 min drive, which is gas money, and another copay to be paid and still might not get the help I need... I guess well see. Other than that, office is clean, nicely put together, office staff very friendly, nothing wrong with the Dr I seen, except I wasnt his expertise. I was disappointed in Dr Benjamin Petty. My 5 year old daughter fractured her upper arm near her elbow. It was the first time for me and for her. He wasn’t sympathetic and didn’t make me feel at ease with what was happening. My daughter was made to go to x-rays twice because he didn’t relay to the nurses that he needed to compare the two little growing arms. Not just that, but I was called the next day and told I needed to come in ASAP to have the bone pushed into place - something that Dr Petty should have done the previous day. Finally, the way he talked to my daughter was horrible. Perhaps he doesn’t have kids but the last thing a 5 year old who is holding it together and not crying and being super tough while in great pain is to be talked to like she’s a baby. Dr Petty treated Caroline like a baby and me like I was ignorant. The only reason I’m giving two stars is because the ladies who did the x-rays and wrapped her splint were lovely and caring to both my daughter and me.

Will never refer anyone to this practice. Never have I felt like just a number when it came to my care. I have a herniated disc and was referred here by my doctor. After seeing my Ortho doctor for my initial consult for 10 minutes after waiting over 30 just to get into a room and wait another 30 minutes, I was given a standard treatment and shooed out the door. Not once did the doctor really try to understand me as a new patient or what had caused my injury. Just a bag me and tag me approach. And on my second visit to this doctor I was told to wait in the room and someone would come get me. After waiting for 45 minutes I came out and was told, oh we must have forgotten you were in there. Yeah. But, its such a large business in this area I decided to stick with it. Next was physical therapy, what a joke. My PT had at least 3 to 4 patients running at one time. She as constantly 15-20 minutes late to our sessions, handed me off to an intern, or was on her phone or talking about her upcoming vacation, but certainly not paying attention to me. I would spend 30 minutes of an hour session and to boot, after receiving my health insurance benefits I saw she was billing for a whole session. Wow! Then I was scheduled to receive the second steroid shot. After calling for a month while being in a huge amount of pain and being reassured I was in the system, I finally got someone who could schedule it after seeing I was not in the system and yep you guessed it, forgotten again, Last was the follow up visit for the shot. Hit two spots of really bad traffic and called 30 minutes ahead of my appointment to tell them I would be 10 minutes late. Yep, just told me to reschedule after taking the morning off. Needless to say I have never felt like there was any personalized care or that I was someone with a name, just a number. Wouldnt ever recommend this place.

Went above and beyond describing the muscles, tendons and ligaments involved in my hip pointer contact injury. A bit tired, I provided some humor by referring to the IT Band muscles as KT Bands. :-) Glad to provide some levity as I was concerned about a possible labral injury. But Dr. Merz explained that there was nice socket spacing and ball joint shape appropriate to someone who had been athletically active. I really just needed PT to loosen the soft tissue as it healed. He nicely adapted his explanations to my level of knowledge, then added to that. Many thanks, because the pain level had me a bit concerned.

I had seen a good doctor at a local big hospital network who suggested a pretty big-time surgery after several unsuccessful treatments/approaches. It was significant enough to make me want to validate it with a second opinion. I had asked around and a friend had recommended EmergeOrtho (she had seen them for her shoulder injury). I also had a physical therapist friend who didnt work for them, but had also heard great things about their clinic and clinicians from within her healthcare circle of colleagues. I was able to get an appt with Dr. Mack Aldridge. He was incredible -- he patiently listened to me complain about my decreasing quality of life (seriously, Im only 32 y/o and I was losing my ability to use my left arm b/c of a worsening wrist injury). He keenly spotted a missing puzzle piece to my diagnosis and re-routed my treatment plan. He was compassionate and thorough in his investigation into my case, and worked with his extensive network of colleagues (throughout the southeast region) to help craft an appropriate and clear plan of action. He was equally transparent with me about the risks and possible outcomes of the suggested surgery. Come surgery day, the operation staff in Durham was amazing. From the check-in administrative staff, to the pre-op nursing and sedation staff, to the post-op nurses...they were all incredible in helping ease my nerves (I get the white-coat syndrome pretty easily!). They were diligent in checking up on me post-op to ensure I was recovering properly. When I returned to see Dr. Aldridge, he also lined me up with a PT at EmergeOrtho (Nancy!), who was wonderful in showing me how to appropriately time my recover exercises. The staff, from administration to PAs to PTs, theyre all wonderful and helped me solve my medical mystery with compassion, patience, and accuracy. They were a well-oiled machine and communicated very efficiently. If youre looking for ANY of the services EmergeOrtho offers, dont hesitate. Theyre offer a far, far better experience than those Ive had at the large networks in the Triangle area.

This struck me as questionable under HIPAA, but I nonetheless complied, providing substantial personally identifiable information and a detailed account of my medical issues. She requested records, so I attached what I had to the email and requested the fax number for the rest. Her emails and replies were always short and terse. She provided me with an incorrect/inoperable fax number. After my doctor was unable to send my records, I reached out again via email. In another short, terse email, she provided ANOTHER incorrect/inoperable fax number.I finally called and spoke to someone else at the office, politely mentioning my frustration with the experience. Only then did Wanda finally call me, apologizing for the fax mix up and offering information about how best to get in for an appointment once the records came through.I was able to get my doctor to provide the records via email, which I attached in a new email to Wanda on 12/5. She confirmed receipt and said she would send to the review team in order to schedule my appointment. Assuming my request was perhaps bogged down in the holiday shuffle, I waited.Today, I emailed again to ask on the status of my review. She responded that she never got my records; the records I sent myself, which were at the top of the same email thread. At this point, I gave up.TL/DR: I cant review the doctors at Emerge Ortho because the appointment coordinator, Wanda, is the most inept medical office staff member Ive had the misfortune of dealing with. Ive lost six weeks of time I could have been on a waiting list at another provider.EDIT: I got an email from Wanda apologizing and saying she never meant to upset me, but she never received/ was waiting on my blood work... except that the file the was waiting for was attached to the email thread in question. She also had apparently forgotten/never recorded our conversation in December about switching the provider I was going to see in order to get in before May. I dont blame the experience on her malice, just her ineptitude.

All of the Emerge Ortho physicians that I have seen, Dr. Petty, Dr. Eisinger and Dr. Kalman, have been excellent, thorough, caring physicians.

You can go in and get schedule for the next visit... Thats it. I would recommend other PT places with more professional therapists.

I read the negative reviews and was apprehensive as my daughter had fallen and thought she had broken her hand. I live in Charlotte so I was not able to help much. She went here and was immediately seen, had xrays and diagnosed. I know if she had gone into the emergency dept. at a large hospital she would still be waiting to be seen. So I am very thankful for the quick service this facility provided.

I am a year round swimmer for 8 years and visited 3 different therapists for ongoing shoulder problems (last 2 years). the first therapist was OK at best, he was very arrogant and seemed like he came to conclusions really fast to get me out of the way. Fast forward about 3 months and I sneezed, feels like I pinched a nerve in my left shoulder and have had pain ranging from 3-4 all day, sometimes spiking to 6. Also my collar bone is about half an inch protruding out compared to my right side. Despite all of this my last therapist I saw did not consider this a problem and actually told me to focus on my lower back. 2 weeks went by and my shoulder hurts a lot more, more constantly, and my lower back hasnt gotten any better. Since I cant go visit (out of town for a business trip 3-4 days) I called in to speak to my therapist. they said they would call me back in 24 hours.. (I thought okay, theyre just saying 24 hours for liability reasons or whatever) have not received a call back from my therapist yet and it has been longer than 24 hours. 27 to be exact. is it really that hard to be a decent therapist and at least put the effort fourth? That being said Sam dyre is a great doctor and so is dr. Takanaga. I hope you guys keep up the good work and shape up the rest of the practice.

It turns out that I have probably had childhood arthritis since I was around 16, and also PCOS from the same age. Both lead to chronic lifelong pain. There are other things that gave me lasting pain such as lung damage which reached the pleural envelope and I can feel it still. I am now in my 40s and have maintained with pain prevention and relief medications for over 10 years. This is about the 6th pain center I have worked with. I see Dr. Mali who is an excellent doctor. For evaluation of rheumatic problems I saw Dr. Whitt and I cant say enough things that are positive about her. She is super professional. She said at one point I dont want to interrupt you, go ahead, I want to hear the story in your words because the diagnosis can be wrong if I try to hurry you or control the communication. Can you imagine? In todays hurry up world? Dr. Mali is much the same, he pays attention and is very professional. Sometimes it can be hard to get messages to him in between visits, so just be patient if you are a new patient and you have a lot to talk about. Once the treatment plan was all set up, it was less stressful, but at first, it was very crazy and I thought maybe the nurse wasnt giving him messages. I avoided becoming accusatory though. Like I said, this isnt the firs time Ive been around this block. They have asked for a urine sample every time I have gone in for a visit so far, so it may be SOP for them, but I think the law only requires it about 4x a year, their staff may just be very uptight. Since my out of pocket costs are around $1.50, I dont care. They also have CBT training and PT available. Ive had tons of PT before but I will definitely go for the CBT as soon as I get everything sorted out as a new patient. Previously I went to Atlantic Pain Consultants (Now Atl Spine and Pain or something like that), but when Dr. Harrell(?) retired I decided to look for another place. I really didnt like Duke, they treated me like I had never been to a pain center before or something. They claimed I had fibro, and since then, 4 other doctors have said I do not. I think they were looking for an excuse to deny me pain meds. So since Im not faking it, Ill avoid Duke. I hope eventually Dr. Mali will also give me the xray guided cortisone injections in my back I was getting from Dr. Harrell, but we will see. I am still having trouble bending down, but otherwise my quality of life has improved and I can do housework and am looking for a job again. Thank you so much for giving me my life back! I cant say enough about how important pain control centers are for me. I couldnt contribute to our society without them. Its unfortunate that there is such a stigma about this. The opposite of the stigma is true. On these drugs, I am a functioning and contributing and cheerful person. Without them, I am grumpy and irritable and in pain, unwilling to lift a finger to help anyone because I hurt too much. Check out the arthritis foundation... I used to be like they describe: I used to do too much, force myself to lift things, to be so active I was reinjuring myself daily. Every doctor would look at me and say youre too young, or Id say you have some kind of arthritis. Funny thing... I did.
