I sent an email about my interest in medication management via Psychology Today. In that email introduction I noted my primary reason for wanting to be seen and briefly mentioned my history.I did not receive an actual response back but was sent a barrage of paperwork in two separate emails. Not exactly a humanistic approach but I appreciated their prompt response. The issue is that when I called the office, the staff was curt, a bit too casual and did not answer my question regarding insurance. Not only that, they didnt seem to care that I can only afford to be a patient if I am covered by insurance. After some back and forth, I emailed the office with specifics. That was a several days ago and nothing since.Seems there is a focus on the business part and not so much the mental health CARE part.

I have had a difficult time with the administrative staff ever since I started. I suppose some people would have taken it as a sign to go elsewhere but I genuinely needed help and liked my psychiatrist. Now I am trying to get my records and cancel my appointment as I found a new place that has it more together and doesn’t consistently drop the ball. But it appears no one is ever available to talk to me or return a phone call. Surprising since they say they will get back to you in 24 hours. Just not the case.. I’d recommend elsewhere since you are likely already stressed out and overwhelmed if you are looking for services and this place just makes it worse.

Cognitive handled my husband’s psych care for several years relatively well. Recently I needed a new doctor for medication management. I looked to Cognitive since my spouse had a positive experience with them before. I filled out the forms and did an hour long initial consult during which I was told they were happy to have me and would have me set up with a doctor and have my medication sorted out within the week. Great! I was leaving one physician for Cognitive and was already on several medications including one that would make me very sick if I ran out of it so I was happy that the process with switching my care to Cognitive was seemingly going so smoothly and there wouldn’t be any interruption or issue with my meds. I fired my previous doctor as I was again told during my intake that Cognitive would take me. That was week 1. Again, consult practitioner told me he had a staff meeting the same afternoon as my consult and would be speaking to the doctor and getting me on his schedule for the following week. Week 2 comes and I hear nothing. No follow up other than to ask for a release form I had already submitted the week before. I email at the end of Week 2 and politely ask for an update on the scheduling and make sure there were no issues and got no response. Week 3 is again more of the same. Finally after emailing twice at the end of Week 3 I am finally told the doctor “doesn’t have time for me after all” and basically told to go elsewhere with no apology or further explanation. Literally one sentence response after 3 weeks of waiting. Silly me I assumed they would’ve ensured there was room in their practice for me *before* having me go through all the intake and wasting my time. I could’ve been looking for another doctor had they just answered my emails week 2 and let me know it wouldn’t work out after all! Instead I am left in the lurch after being guaranteed a spot and running out of all my psych meds while I scramble to find another doctor to go through all the intake at another practice yet again. Ugh. Very unprofessional and highly dangerous to string patients along and ignore requests for a simple update. It’s annoying enough that they didn’t ensure there was space first off but why did it take 3 weeks (2 of which I was ignored) to simply inform me of the situation so I could continue my search for care?

EDIT: Becca no longer works here, I still go here for Jennie Byrne, however. I still think this place is awesome. I love that they print on both sides of the paper. The office is very very friendly.I love my therapist, Becca Powell, so much that I drive 2 hours each direction from Virginia for her appointments. She always makes me feel welcome and wont fight with me on certain things, I have a very argumentative attitude sometimes and she recognizes it. She tells me if I dont want to get anything from therapy then theres no point to do it. I felt glad I wasnt being pressured, like at other establishments. So after being told that, I started liking it and calming down. I think Ive seen her 6 times now, I LOVE it. I think talking with her has helped more than any other thing.

I absolutely love this place!! Very calming atmosphere. I drive an hour and a half one way, a total of 3 hours once a month, and its worth every minute. I am a busy woman, wife and mother, and also a full time nursing student. Cognitive Psychiatry has always been willing to help accommodate my needs based on my schedule. Office personell and Physicians are wonderful here, and never once have they treated me any less than that. I have been cared for by a few of the doctors here, and all of them have treated me with their up most respect. I have to leave this business for insurance purposes only, but I would highly recommend any of the doctors available at Cognitive Psychiatry. Sincerely, K. Jenkins

I am a physician who has suffered endogenous depression for more than 50 years. Dr. Byrne assumed my care when i moved to the area in 2015. I have been very happy with her attentive and compassionate care. She is very well trained, and has a very rigorous scientific and research background. My only complaint is that the treatment is expensive, and CPCH does not particpate in insurance. I am well off financially and able to afford it, but this practice--which is common among psychiatrists today--makes CPCH (and most Board certified Psychiatrists) unaffordable for a lot of people, I am sure. Obviously this is not illegal., but as a physician, I am not entirely sure this is in keeping with the ethical underpinnings of American Medicine.

Expensive but worth it. The process of finding a therapist, scheduling that first appointment, waiting what seems like an eternity, and finally being seen and hopefully getting some relief for whatever your mental health concerns are can be a very stressful experience. CPCH removes this stress every step of the way so the patient can focus on what they came there for - to start feeling better. I called and was offered an intake appointment the very next day. Highly recommend.

5 stars to Dr. Rogers, however she left CPCH.Dr. Hairston took over my sons treatment and dropped him like a hot potato when things got rough. He is 15 and suffers from depression and anxiety. Instead of working with him during his rough times, she recommended a residential facility. He was doing good with Dr. Rogers and positively reaching out to his therapist. Sadly, Dr. Hairston is not here to engage and help our high-risk teens. She will quickly shuffle them off to other facilities.

Wonderful and helpful staff, beautiful office. Very accommodating, always ask if I would like water, tea, or coffee. Doctor has been the best psychiatrist Ive ever had (out of maybe 7 previous docs). Hes stuck with me through so many bumps and rough times and has always clearly had my best interest at heart. Honestly cant think of a single complaint except for the fact that they dont accept my insurance. All around best psychiatrist experience Ive had. Would highly recommend.By the way, I see Dr. Bader and Im on buprenorphine maintenance and he manages my other medications as well.

Save yourself the administrative trouble, do not go here! Genuinely they try to up-sell you at every turn, I dont like being treated like a stock option. I have a three strikes and youre out policy, before I quit doing business with someone.First, they increasin the prices. Second, my original doctor left and did not give me any notice, and then third with my new doctor they keep trying to make me pay for more than what I need. Also, I tried to change my schedule due to my work, they wont accommodate!Recently the staff of the front office are soooooooooooooooooooo rude, they treat you like you dont matter! Im going to a different doctors office now.Seriously, as a business owner let me give you a little piece of advice: DO NOT allow your front office staff to give your patients sour attitude if your mission and economic model is based upon helping people!! I would fire any employee who treated my customers that way!! That is sincerely disngenuine!I did like to go in here for a little while, however, enough is enough, moving on to a far better, less drama filled, and significantly more professional practice now. Have a nice day.

Avoid! Paid $400 out of pocket to be pitched MLM pyramid scheme essential oils and supplements as a cure for my anxiety. The FDA has stated multiple times that making such claims is illegal. Dr. Hairston tried to pressure and manipulate me to buy them on the spot from her after I told her about my deepest fears and worries. She also never disclosed that she would get a cut if I did! Stay away for your own sanity!

Sadly, I can only give this place 1 star. I went to get help for major anxiety and panic attacks. At almost $300 for 50 minutes of time, I expected the best. My appointment last week with Saramma Eappen was supposed to start at 2:00 and finish at 2:50. Saramma Eappen introduced herself to me in the lobby and took me back to her office around 1:56. At 2:38 she asked me if I needed anything else. I said, no? And then she took me to the front desk to schedule another appt with her. During the session, she made me very uncomfortable. For me, I felt judged by her. All she did was listen to my stories and say good job and that I may benefit from psychotherapy. I did at least 90% of the talking and she didn’t ask many questions to dive deeper. I told her that in the past I was prescribed Xanax for panic attacks and it helped me a lot on an as needed basis. Instead of prescribing that, she prescribed me an antihistamine. This antihistamine is also known to reduce anxiety and make a person sleepy. For me, it did the opposite. This practise charges $85 for a doctor to call in a different prescription or to get a doc to prescribe refills without coming in. $85 for what takes them all of 5 minutes to electronically prescribe. I’m not made of money so I’ll have to wait another month to get thebmeds I need for my panic attacks. I also have adhd, I fit that mold perfectly. In order to get the adhd meds I need, I was forced to take a test where I looked at circles and squares and had to hit the space bar any time a shape repeated itself. I asked the manager how much this teat costs and he said $100. I was blown away, not only was my appointment cut 10 minutes short, I was being asked to pay an additional $100 to take a 20 minutes computer test. I complained to the manager and he said I could take the test for free because of my experience with Saramma Eappen. But, without complaining, $100. During my session with Saramma Eappen, her phone rang three times during the session. First she would look at her Apple Watch to see her messages and then grabbed her phone from her desk and began looking at it.......THREE TIMES. This is the most unprofessional thing I’ve ever experienced in this environment. When paying almost $300 for 50 minutes of someone time, you expect their undivided atttention and for the appointment to last the full 50 minutes. I confided in Saramma Eappen about my previous usage of medical marijuana. I have been a resident of California and Colorado and have had medical prescriptions for it, to help with anxiety, pain and sleep. Once I passed the teat proving that I have the symptoms associated with adhd, she wrote a one month prescription. The office manager called me later informing me that I would need to take drug tests moving forward to stay on my medication. And of course would charge me extra for the drug test. That was the last straw. This place cares nothing about your well being. The only thing they care about in your wallet/purse. Stay away......much better doctors and practices out there.
