I read the reviews for the hospital and couldn’t believe the experiences were as bad as what people said. Unfortunately, it is. It begins with finding a park. Challenging at times d/t construction. Next, waiting in line at the door to find out where you are suppose to go. Once you arrive at your destination it’s the “waiting game.” Waiting for this, waiting for that. I dread coming here, and anticipate the day I will no longer.

I usually have very good service here but today it was nerve wrecking. I arrived at valet parking and saw three guest service workers and they just walked off before we got registered. Then we sit there for over 30 minutes waiting for transport to get in the hospital. We finally get in and make it to registration at 1:55 and then we waited for thirty minutes for a transport but no one came. Two wonderful people from the desk came and took us up to the Transplant Clinic and I want to give a big shout out to Zakiya REDD and AYANNA HARRIS for going above and beyond for us.

UNC billing department repeatedly double bills me for payments made on the date of service for a reoccurring medical treatment, and then includes legitimate bills for other services added to the already paid bill, so I am unable to break out and pay the legitimate bills and have payments earmarked for the legitimate date of services. When I tried calling UNC billing on 9/27/21 and explained this problem, I was rudely hung up on, and I know I was hung up on because billing never called me back to resolve. I have mailed a letter to the presidents office that was ignored; I filed a complaint with the NC Attorney Generals office. I would go to another doctors office to avoid UNCs terribly unprofessional and incompetent billing department but the treatments are from a specialist only accessible through UNC in this part of the state. Also, the doctor and staff are excellent, it is too bad they have to work with UNC billing. UNC will reply with: We are sorry that anyone has had a less than ideal experience with us, please contact Patient Relations. I have a BETTER idea, just FIX THE PROBLEM, and instruct your unprofessional billing staff NOT TO HANG UP ON PATIENTS!

Impressive your hospital just fails when your IT department shuts the bed. Glad to see myself and many others not get surgery we needed because you didn’t have internet. Let’s not forget the hours wasted driving and waiting around and child care. Let’s not forget to the weeks and months of waiting for another surgery opening where people can literally die in the mean time because you have no back up like pen and paper if your internet goes down. I don’t know what’s going on… I normally come to this hospital when needed. Luckily it has been about a year since I’ve came and today I brought my mom being that she felt sick to the ER. We came in around 2:30pm and wasn’t called in until 10:30pm. Ridiculous!! I understand we are in the middle of a global pandemic, but there are several people waiting in the waiting room. It needs to be more organized. When we were finally called in it was another matter of wait time & who knows for how long. We are still waiting for a dr. to come speak with her. At least one of the house keeping ladies was honest with us and told us that they don’t have many drs. Available cause they’ve been quitting due to Covid. This is crazy. Idk if I’ll ever come back again being that I live in Greensboro.

Every time I’ve had a question or concern it’s disregarded and not take care of the way it should be.My labor experience was HORRIBLE… I would never have had another child if this would have been my experience the first time. Then we will 3 hours away and when I was discharged was told to attempt to take my meds every 8 hours. Thats been impossible and I will run out of meds in the middle of the weekend. I have never felt so disregarded and brushed off before and this my 17th surgery, bad car accident. I understand covid has made health care workers more difficult but this is not the patients fault.

Im at first time mother, in all honesty it was probably a 3.6 or 4 star review but I gave it a 5 base off my first OBGYN doctor and all of the nurses and doctors in the labor and delivery section, I also appreciated a few of the nurses in the postpartum aftercare department I was taken to. Lexi and i believe the other nurses name was Carissa in labor and delivery were outstanding. Excellent role model nurses and they made my experience so much more comforting than I thought it would be. The attitudes in the nurses I was given in the postpartum department kind of paled in comparison but I do still appreciate them being there. All of the nurses and doctors I met in labor and delivery is what cemented a great first time birthing experience for me. I had another nurse and Im sorry I forgot her name but I was to give the Labor and Delivery a special thank you for their professionalism and cheerful presence!!! 10/10 for them. My daughter had an Neuro eye surgery. She had follow up appointments. UNC didnt bill our insurance for a year later. Our insurance rejected it because it needed a request for more treatments from the surgeon. The surgeon had left UNC and we had to pay the bill. On another occasion my daughter was sent to a UNC Neurologist who sent her for an MRI. They bever coordinated with our institutions. We had to fight this for over 2 years for them to coordinate with her PCP who would send to insurance. They sent it to collections. Our insurance was willing to pat. UNC wouldnt coordinate the paperwork. As I write this today UNC called me for another procedure needed for my daughter. They told me to call her pefiatrian to put on the consult. I informed them that O wasnt the doctor and that it is their job to coordinate with her pediatrician!

Theyre suppose to be the best hospital in NC, but cant find a way to give tube feeding etc to someone who doesnt want to eat, that is getting weaker by not eating. Only to instead send them back to their home town to go to hospice. Then my grandfather mysteriously passes after I get into it with them over the phone.

Note: This is not a review of the practitioners at UNC Hospital, but their bloodwork and lab department, as well as the people who handle registration and scheduling.I had to get testing to be seen by UNC Pulmonology, so they scheduled me to have the lab work done at their main hospital. Once I arrive the receptionist doesnt seem to understand how to fill out the paperwork and has to get another employee to even call out of the building. Finally Im told the testing wont be covered by my insurance and I should go home. I wasted an entire afternoon between traveling there and waiting for over an hour in the hospital. I end up calling back and forth repeatedly to try sorting the issue out. My doctor has to submit the referral again for some reason. UNC also told me that theyd only schedule the lab work again if my insurance covers it. Eventually Im contacted and told to make another lab appointment. After a month I finally end up going to get the testing done. Im informed at the desk yet again that insurance wont cover it, even though I was assured that the referral had the necessary information and they would not schedule me until then. I didnt want to drive all that way for nothing again so I said Id pay. I was quoted $200. When I finally do get the bill its far higher than that. I end up calling their billing department only to find out that nobody bothered to contact the insurance company in the first place; there was no record that they submitted the bill to begin with and sent it to me instead. I am extremely disappointed and had to deal with multiple UNC employees who never got the problem straightened out, and I still havent even seen the pulmonologist.

There was a nurse named Katherine who treated me awful. I came out of surgery and was screaming in pain because my cast needed to be opened due to pressure , they stopped giving me the medication I needed so I was literally laying there suffering in pain. Screaming for at least an hour. I had to call my family to get them to get me some help. I had nobody to advocate for me and was tortured by this nurse literally. I have seen really bad nursing homes treat people better than I was treated. I will be writing lots of letters and turning this nurse in. 90% of my experience with this hospital was so bad no human should ever have to experience the things I did. I am now just dealing with orthopedics which Ive had more issues with another Nurse over there. My surgeon and the resident I had have been the only saving grace. These nurses need to retire if they are so miserable with what they do or get another job. UNC Chapel Hill Hospital is the most abusive system. They are a bunch of liars. This includes from nurses, doctors, managers, patients relation and hospital policemen. They accused me of not wearing mask when I wear mask every single time I visited. They accused me of sneaking into the hospital without registering with the front desk attendants when there is no way to enter the hospital without going through the registration process. They are maliciously making up any reasonings to take my rights away as they want. One may thought this doesn’t happen in America. I am shocked, it’s the truth and it happened to me. They robbed my visitation with my daughter. They infringed my right by accused me of having medical problems and brought me into theirs hospital without my permission and didn’t matter how I rejected the hospital police strangled me down to do whatever they wanted and billed around $10,0000 of medical bills as result of theirs examinations and tests. As of the doctors, Dr. Hays, who is a surgeon told me on videos conference, which it called family meeting that children who was born with “Giant Omphalocele defects” have 65% of mortality rate.

WORST EXPERIENCE I have EVER had at any hospital. I came all the way from Benson to drop off some clothes, food, and baby food/Gerber for my 1 1/2 year old niece, who has been hospitalized here since Friday of last week. However, one of the ladies (she said her name is Ann) working at the front lobby of the Women’s Health entrance greeted me with an attitude from the time she saw me walking in with the bags. She quickly told me that if I was dropping off food, they would not take it because it was past 9:00pm. I tried explaining to her the situation and where I was coming from and explained that I didn’t only have food, but other things for my niece As well. However, she still refused to take it. I asked her to please call her supervisor to see if they could make an exception (since she said that they had just received the email with this policy today) at least with the baby stuff, which were some of my niece’s favorite fruits and Gerber. While on the phone with me RN, she told her that it was food and did not bother specifying that it was baby food sealed and that would not go bad in a matter of mins or hrs. and when I asked her to please specify what type of food it was, she just hung up and said that the RN had said “No”. Yo make matters worse, she said that if they wanted fruit, they could get fruit or food from the hospital cafeteria. I got to the point, where I got a teary eye and I could feel my voice getting a little hoarse while begging her to please just take my niece’s stuff and seeing her lack of empathy. My question is, how can someone so uncompassionate and inhumane be working here??

The doctors and nurses are highly skilled; the nurse assigned to me after my surgery recognized something was wrong with me before *I* did (and after almost 2 decades of experience with my illness -- including 3 surgeries -- thats saying something), starting a process which saved my life. A nurses intuition is incredible. In addition to the world-class health professionals, the other staff (janitorial, room service, etc.) are incredibly kind. The food is delicious and is made-to-order, so people with low-salt or other restrictions can easily find things to eat.The rooms themselves are surprisingly nice, and most rooms have a place for overnight visitors to sleep (couches that turn into beds, recliners that lie flat after hitting a button, etc.). Theres also nourishment rooms on most floors, which contain snacks and a coffee machine. Its available for both patients and for visitors.I could ramble on for quite some time with a hundred more reasons why UNC is amazing. Hopefully you never need a hospital, but if you do, this is the one to visit. There are hospitals where people go to die in a dimly lit overcrowded nightmare-land, and there are hospitals where people go to heal and the staff cares about you like youre family. This is the latter -- a hospital where you go to rest, heal, and actually improve your health.

I would give the largest negative number possible but since that’s no an option I had to give 1 star. We went there because they have it advertised on the web as a hospital that jumps on sepsis patients and does a code sepsis to get them treated as fast as possible. Well I was already diagnosed with sepsis and the receptionist didn’t know what it was or how to spell it. We had to wait for 3 more people to go ahead of me to be triaged. They took one lady straight back. Finally a totally clueless guy did my “triage”. He was asking questions about why I was there and how I knew I had sepsis and he kept cutting me off and I finally told him I was trying to tell him but he kept interrupting me. Then he told me to go wait in the waiting room and I asked for about how long and he said a while. Again I mentioned having sepsis and the code sepsis they were supposed to be known for to catch and treat sepsis. He knew nothing of that. I looked it up on the phone and went and showed him and he informed me there were 50-60 patients in the back. I told him I didn’t care how many patients were in the back but sepsis needed to be taken care of right away. Again he sent me to the waiting room. There was an elderly couple that we were talking to and the man’s doctor had called the hospital letting them know that they were sending him over. He had just gotten out of the hospital 6 days previous and they had been waiting 5 hours and he looked sick! I worked in the ICU and on the squad back home and there were several people who needed to go back. We left and went to a different UNC Campus and we had a great experience there. I wouldn’t bring my dog to you all. Especially being a “trauma center” who are supposed to be the best of the best. Not even close. The facility was also dirty. Definitely NOT RECOMMENDED.

I would like to give zero stars but it doesnt allow. my father had a stroke and we had this incredible nurse the first night so we thought it was going to be good but after the first day we stated to see the nurses and the nurse assistants treat my father poorly and they werent always there when they needed to be. Nurses Marie, Miranda and nurse assistant matt were never around when they need to be or gave us such attitude on the phone or even in person. I would as my father if he was showed or ate and he would tell me no and I asked the nurse assistant and he told me yes and then his nurse told me no so its like very unfortunate that a hospital like this has such poor staffing. Even the case worker named wes was pleasant at first but towards the end he turned into a total nightmare and always raised his voice at me and my sister which was very unprofessional

Amazing hospital, with great doctors and staff. Of course, there will always be “bad “people in a bunch of good people but, I am telling you that this hospital is outstanding. They even work with you if you aren’t able to pay right away, they won’t send you away. (Not everyone is able to be insured) The doctors usually work in teams, and discuss with each other the best plan of treatment for you. The hospitals all work together, (Cancer, Neurology etc.) They have taken great care of me AND my mom.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I had never been to the emergency room before I came here and I will never go again. My family (including myself) is full of healthcare professionals, so we know what should go on in the ED. When I first arrived, I was told I had a kidney stone. Then, they proceeded to do a pelvic exam and a CT with contrast neither of which are standard for diagnosing a kidney stone. By the time they did these, I was out of it from pain and meds or I would have declined. The contrast cost several hundred dollars that I should not have had to pay. The staff was nice enough, but when it came to paying the bill I have never been more frustrated. I was told to use their Access One vendor to set up a payment plan and they would not send my bill to collections. I did what I was told and then a week later got a call from a collections agency. I tried to settle with UNC and they refused. If they had not charged me for the UNNECESSARY contrast, my bill would already be paid in full. If you want to go to a hospital that does extra procedures to make more money and refuses to work with you when you are one of the few people who actually pays their ED bill then please feel free to go to UNC.

Many doctors take advantage of the loopholes in medical insurance to provide unnecessary services to patients, such as visits and condolences, and sometimes even requires patients to pay for themselves.

If you want to visit at this time you cannot because of covid. Ever if your husband been in the ICU for 32 day all alone. Doctors dont call and update. You get a different update everytime you call. If patient has been there a while its like they dont care anymore. My only hope is my Lord will heal my husband.your husband has been in ICU for 32 days. Dr

I had terrible experience here. You guys need to do a better job at evaluating your employees in addition to your patients. The lady Caitlin Turner was rude and I mean absolutely rude to us. Bad attitude, the other staff was ok but I am definitely going back to Duke.

Was skeptical at first due to all the negative reviews, but was pleasantly surprised my experience was completely different. My visit was for open heart surgery in January 2017. The entire staff was professional and friendly. Dr. Michael Mill performed my valve replacement surgery and was extremely knowledgeable - explaining each possible surgery option in detail. Post surgery care was phenomenal, nurses go out of their way to help and make sure you are comfortable at all times. Food wasnt gourmet, but cant complain, because it was as good as hospital food could be! Overall, I would highly recommend this hospital to family and friends.

Drs, nurses and kitchen staff great, cleaning crew mean and did not clean the waiting area well. I wish I could think of hed name in the sick, I would call her out! If this helps though it was 02/27/20 at 7 am. She came in yelling telling us to get out so she can clean. It startled us. We were side tracked and forgot a much needed walker and wheel chair for the elder ones I was with. I tried to go in and get it along with my daughters money and bag she left but the lady had us locked out! One guest started to take her pillow out of its case, the cleaner said harshly to her to put it down, she will get it. I hope that lady reported her! We all were emotionally spent as is because of our loved ones being in the icu and sicu. She was horrible. I hope this review helps find her so some much needed discipline can take place! Do you need the room number of my loved one? Ill give it if it helps narrow her down

Had a serious emergency and they got us right in, all the staff in the ER were very helpful and pleasant, the intake staff was a little bit harsh. Discharge was fast and easy. The ER has parking but an attendant moves the cars for you, free parking while in ER if you are transfered to a hospital floor than you have to move your car and pay $10 a day . All in all was a good experience.

Three trips this year. Nursing, Housekeeping, and maintenance first class. Communication between Drs severely lacking. Finding procedures in chart not done, labs werent performed. Getting multiple emails about test results but nothing in MyChart. MyChart has disclaimer to notify them if email received in error but it is an email address that doesnt accept replies. Message to lab never gets a reply. Unable to contact my Dr that I have seen already because she is not listed as my Dr. They have many great people there but no one is looking at the day to day issues.

My care was wonderful. My issue is with coding and billing just like the lady who reviewed beneath me. I had an emergency surgery and coding thinks this is classified under maternity care because the emergency was with my fallopian tubes. No baby, no fetus, no maternity. It was a cyst. Insurance wont cover because I dont have maternity insurance. Theyve reviewed it and coding still thinks its maternity. I dont know what to do anymore. They wont let me speak to anyone over at coding. Ive got a pretty $16000 bill to pay all by myself.

This is a very nice hospital. The ER doctors are not as compassionate as they should be and the nurse arent either. However, I was admitted and the nurses were awesome. I started out on the bone marrow floor which my room was the size of a master room in a house. It had a daybed, mini fridge, game systems, DVD player with movies and a huge bathroom. They ended up getting a bone marrow patient in and I had to give up my room. I was transferred to the womens(six floor). I was upset at first but ALL the nurses were AWESOME. The room was a lot smaller and only had a smaller daybed. They did however have a pantry on the floor that is accessible to patients and their family. Last but not least, the food at this hospital is awesome. Ive been in and out the hospital all my life and Ive never been in a hospital whos menu is 10 pages long. They have all types of cuisines. There kitchen is also open 24 hrs/7 days a week. So if for any reason you have to be hospitalized, I would definitely push to be admitted to UNC. The friendliness, cleanliness and not to mention the food makes being hospitalized a little easier. I hope this helps someone. God bless you!!😜😎😉

Post hysterectomy, I must say the care I received at UNC Womens Oncology was superb! Beyond what I was expecting and a really good experience. Especially that I did not have to wait for pain medication, and the staff was quick to supply allergy meds when I had a reaction to a medication. Nurses and nurses aides, even the cleaning staff were all caring and patient oriented. I never had to eat jello, and the food service is set up as ordering take-out from menus. You call in to get food that you would like to eat. It is delivered by people dressed as wait staff. I was blown away-try the chicken noddle soup, excellent! Overall, they are doing their best to make the hospital stay as painless and pleasant as possible.

We walked up to reception office #6. Receiving office employee seemed annoyed and asked us to wait because she had a “patient”. We were within earshot. Employee was gossiping about personal garbage while we had to wait for them to finish. It turns out that the employee was not consulting with a patient but simply gossiping with a friend. UNC leadership needs to foster a more patient-friendly atmosphere and streamline this throughout the organization. One bad apple ruins the whole bunch.

I drive 3 hours to get to this hospital. Yesterday I left at 0845 and I got home at 2010. And all I got was a CT scan! I was treated like a nuisance instead of a human being. My scan was at 1230. My urology appt. was at 1345. The CT scan took almost 3 hours and they were not that busy. They made me late for my urologist. Made my way to urology in Memorial and the only person there was the receptionist. No patients anywhere. After sitting there for almost TWO HOURS, I left! Then I had to pay $7.50 to park for 5 hours! All I got was a CT scan? $30.00 in gas. What makes a hospital run like that? That is just inexcusable. Are these not professionals? You know if the tables were turned, that Dr. wouldnt want to go there either.
