Open bottles of people’s urine sitting on the counters in the bathroom for hrs with out anyone cleaning it up. Trash and open food containers left in the waiting room for hrs. People’s dirty clothes laying on the floor. People waiting 12 hrs in the waiting room. Elderly people who need assistance to the bathroom being left for over 30 mins in the bathroom after being done before anyone went back and got them. Curtains in the er room have been left up for over a year when on the tag says only good for 6months with blood on them, trash left on the floor from other patients before us, blood left on the wall from other patients and never cleaned. Unc has went down hill. It looks like a homeless shelter not a hospital. very disappointed

I had a bad experience my last visit here on October 15/16 2021. The care was not adequate and I was not hooked to any monitors or had any real test performed. Its been 3 days since my visit and I feel worse and was not prescribed any medication to take home. Only headache meds and Benadryl at hospital that just made me sleep. I think I need antibiotics due to chest congestion and phlegm. The doctor did not even listen to my lungs with the stethoscope. I thought that was usually mandatory at hospitals. Furthermore, Ive always been seen by two doctors at the ER. The head doctor did not even see me. My wife was present and she feels the same as I do about the level of care that I received.

I would do 0 stars if I could.Don’t come here or you’ll end up waiting for hours in here. Currently waiting since 1pm and it’s 8pm now. Came in because my tongue was swollen and had a hard time breathing. I understand I had to wait for the people that came before me but, it when it came to my turn they skipped me. Service here is awful. Everyone in here is with a attitude. People that came after me (1pm) all left and none of them got attended to. Horrible. I felt so bad for them. Walking out.

Find another ER/crisis center to go to.I am diabetic, and I was there for 6 hours, hadnt eaten anything that day, and didnt get fed the entire time I was there.A nurse named Billy gave me a lot of mouth while I was there. I work as an intake coordinator for a mental health clinic. If I spoke to a patient the way I was spoken to yesterday, I would lose my job.Do better UNC Chapel Hill. Short staffed, long wait times. For the thousands of dollars they will bill my insurance, they can really improve service. Of course we understand that lacerations are not at the top of their priorities but doesn’t need to be run this way. Please Hire more people. The emergency personnel needs the right amount of assistance and resources and the patient deserves the best care for their situation. If you have other choices, avoid this place at all cost

We pulled in while my partner was in severe pain and having a panic attack. The parking attendant was not making an effort to come to the car. I called out to him and asked if we just left the keys and went in and he said “nah you need to check in” to which I replied “ok well can you make it quick we have an emergency”. He signed me in and I had to park myself leaving my partner alone on the bench outside. Got in and went right to triage who said someone would be coming momentarily to get some pain management for my partner. Nobody ever came. We were originally told it would be about an hour to an hour and a half before we saw the doctor. After three I went to ask where we were in line and they told us it would be another 4 or 5 hours. Left and went to Duke. Will not be retuning if we don’t have to.

Horrible experience, waited all night to see a doctor in the morning. Poor assessments were made. Reviewed my own medical records and found that many warning signs were ignored (left shift, bands, neutrophils, elevated WBC, low RBC, elevated liver enzymes, elevated lipase, syncope, fainting, tachycardia, infection, shortness of breath, recent allergic reaction to blood transfusion). No care received. Waste of time. I will never step foot in here again. Gone is my trust for the medical system. Not sure if I will ever seek medical care in a hospital ever again, regardless of the situation, unless it is a different hospital.

Dont waste your time. I came because I was in a lot of pain and couldnt straighten my arm out. I havent been sleeping and its seriously affecting my work and home life. First I was seen by a student who suggested multiple things like imagery and some medications that could help. Then a PA showed up and took my current arm pain from a 2-3 and increased it to a 10 by doing her examination which is totally understandable. She also mentioned a medication specify for nerves, a muscle relaxer (non-narcotic), and a different kind of anti inflammatory than what I was taking. She diagnosed me with golfers elbow and wrote me a prescription for the anti inflammatory but absolutely nothing for the pain. These people at these hospitals set on their high horses assuming people who come in with pain are just seeking drugs. I dont go to the doctor for drugs. I can get better drugs with one phone call. I went to the doctor for help and received none as far as Im concerned. Since my visit my arm has gotten worse, my pain has gotten worse, and my sleep is almost non existent. They did not care about my situation, my pain, or my injury. The PA that saw me even mentioned how she just recently had a similar problem but hers was treated way different than she treated mine. I get everyone is different and every injury is different. My issues is based off what they told me they wanted to do they did the absolute bare minimum and of course Im the one that suffers. The only reason I didnt give one star is because the front desk staff and triage staff were amazing! I would have been better off not going at all.

I have never experienced such a high level of care! The residents and attending physicians are extremely well trained, the front staff are extremely efficient, and everyone was kind. The only people I came into contact with that weren’t necessarily kind (but not super unkind either) were two of the nurses, but the level of care I received made up for that. Went in with a significant amount of pain from an unknown issue, and left knowing exactly what was wrong, prescription in hand, and peace of mind. I spend maybe 4 hours there total on a Sunday night and everyone was very attentive the entire time. The bad reviews are from people who don’t understand that an ED sees the critical patients first. When someone else is literally dying beside you, you don’t mind waiting an extra 30 minutes to see the doctor.Wonderful hospital, wonderful experience.

The UNC Health Emergency Department is a top notch facility with an amazing team of providers. They see multiple thousands of patients every week with life ending traumas. I can’t imagine what a typical day would look like for the staff. One minute they are performing open chest CPR on a patient and then the next minute having to refill a prescription for a patient that uses the Emergency Department like a doctors office. If people would use their doctors office or urgent care for non-emergencies the Emergency Department would be able to treat real emergencies faster. Oh, and when you have been waiting for a long time and you hear noisy helicopters constantly landing on the roof or dozens of ambulances backing up to the building, the fact is that there are life or death issues being addressed that might just suddenly be of a higher priority than your issue.Thank you UNC Health ED staff for doing what you do regardless of the gratitude of the patient.

Everyone that cared for me the night I went in was extremely pleasant. No one wants to be in the ER, so its really important that the staff can remain upbeat despite the trying conditions. The only real complaint I have is that I dont honestly know how the setup isnt a privacy violation. For seven hours I was in a bed in a hallway where the only separation between me and other patients was a small curtain. And if you walked in the hallway, you could clearly see everyone around you. My fiance and I were able to hear the names and ailments of everyone around us, and I was able to hear one mans entire social security number (I tried not to). I dont fully understand how this is legal?

Neurological Issues Beware. I went to the ER for arm pain and weakness on my left side in mid-June. I was hoping to receive an MRI and a referral to a Neurologist. I spent 5 hours in a hallway and explained my symptoms over and over again to multiple residents and then finally the chief resident. I was refused the MRI and was told they could not refer me to the neurology department, because THERE IS A WALL BETWEEN THE ER AND THE NEUROLOGY DEPARTMENT. Do not visit the ER in the attempt to schedule a neurology appointment. The doc told me he is sorry about this and that sometime the medical system fails you. I spent my whole day there and received no help and was charged $600 after insurance. I have since found out that I have a ruptured disc that has been causing the nerve damage. This could have been caught in a simple MRI in mid-June as would have saved me permanent nerve damage on my left side.

I am not an addict and have never abused any medication. But they said that there was no other choice. I talked to many doctors and they said UNC was WRONG. In the two hours that I sat in the waiting room of the emergency department in excruciating pain from an IUD displacement, one person was called back to be seen. One person in two hours? There were three people in the waiting room. Three. Does it really take that long to call the person back who is in excruciating pain and who could be in danger of the effects of an IUD displacement? Doesn’t seem like a great hospital to me. The staff was incredibly rude and could not provide me with a wait time. I won’t get a chance to comment on the doctors because I didn’t even get a chance to see one.
