Thank you Chanute for providing free electricity and water for an overnight rest. We pulled into the pull through spot but soon noticed we would have traffic noise so we moved to the back in spots. Perfect. The spot was level. We were across from the bathhouse. All was well and we greatly appreciate your hospitality.

This campground provides water and 30/50 amp service with a dumpstation for two days FREE of charge. For that reason alone Im giving this place five stars. Also, you get free WiFi provided by the city (City Wireless is the name). There are bathrooms across from sites 1-10. There is also a power station for electric cars.Water is turned off from November 1 through April 1.Tent camping is allowed here and the sign states to camp in designated tent area, but there is nothing to indicate where the tent camping is allowed. I suspect the city doesnt really care as long as your tent is in a reasonable area.Trash cans are placed beside every other campsite, so you never have to walk more than a few feet to empty your trash cans. After two free days the rate is $10/nightly.This is our fourth trip to this place over the last eight years. Ive never been dissapointed. This is a no frills campground which suits us fine for a stopover.  There are no fire pits, picnic tables (except the one on the backside of the baseball diamon). The sites are double wide so you can park your vehicle right beside your camper. This gives you some separation from your neighbors as well. Sixteen sites at the intersection. All are pull through. On the other side of the baseball diamond there are eight back in sites and two more sites that are parallel sites (sites 9  and 10). There is a covered picnic table in this section.Yes, you are located right beside a busy highway, but traffic noise has never bothered us. If a car or two wakes you up at night think: FREE, then go back to sleep. If street sounds are a problem I would suggest parking in the back area across from the baseball diamon. This will be put you away from the main street.LOCATION: The Geo Coordinates are: 37.646287,-95.453132  The two street intersections are 190th road and South Santa Fe Avenue. The dumpstation is located opposite the main camping area across from the baseball diamond (See red mark on picture map Ive included). The sign (see picture) states that each power pedestal has a maximum power of 30 amps, but there is a 50 amp connector available, and I know from reading my panel that I was pulling more than 30 amps without tripping a breaker. Im not sure what that is about. But you do have 50 amp service regardless of what that sign states.

24 RV sites run by the city. Electric and water hook ups. Dump site available. A model for other cities to follow. First two nights are free. Then $10 a night up to 10 days. I’ve spent over $500 in this town during our four night stay.

$10 per night for water and electricity... what a bargain! They built a new shower house this spring but still need to put in an exhaust fan to clear out the humidity and heat from showering. No mirror or benches to put clothes on, so its a good start and hopefully the city of Chanute will finish this project to make it a class A shower house! Or better yet.... put sewer hookups to all the campsites!!😊

As far as an in town RV campground this one is pretty great. Sites are asphalt and level, the electricity is free, the water is at each site and free, and the dump station is free. I had great Verizon and AT&T LTE signals here. Its a great spot for an overnight or two.

This is a barebones campground, but it has the essentials. It has water, electric, showers, trash, and dump station. All this for 2 nights free, then $10 thereafter up to 10 days. There are no picnic tables or grills, but the area is clean. I spent more time exploring Chanute than I likely would have without this convenient little campground. Easy access to many things in town, even if you are driving an RV.

The scariest experience I have ever had at a campground in my life. Definitely not a woman-friendly campground, and as I found out the next day, the police like to harrass women as well. The city provides no security, and as a result, meth addicts and various hoodlums went around in cars all night playing Peeping Tom on the visitors. The park has three nice ponds, but these cannot be enjoyed because the anti-social, white trash, local citizenry engaging in hotwheeling and hog-riding races the whole night, all at eardrum-shattering noise levels. So much for enjoying the peace and quiet in rural America. The bathrooms were bug-ridden, boiling hot, and dirty. Free is not free.
