My dog passed away today. Groveway hospital has been seeing her however in an emergency situation where she needed to see a neurologist (recommended by Groveway) they could not set an appointment for her knowing her situation was very severe and also stated that they couldn’t do anything about it because it’s out of their hands (she needed to see a neurologist). I’ve called all the neurologists in the Bay Area and they are all fully booked until November. My dog didn’t have until November. Groveway hospital should have set up an appointment for us because they have the connections given her condition. Because of their ignorance, my dog is in heaven now. Groveway will be hearing from my lawyers.

I adopt older animals with known compromise. Before the pandemic this vet provided great care, however, since the pandemic they’re totally non responsive. I had a vet emergency for a compromised pet and they rudely told me I could wait 3 weeks or find another facility.Additionally the one time I did get an appointment they took my cat in and delivered him back to my car bleeding from the rectum.I decided to take their advice and find another veterinarian and I am glad I did.Take your animals here at your own risk

Sadly this place has gone downhill. I only started going there after the owner closed Hills. It’s been issue after issue after issue. One of the bigger ones being told one of my cats “might” have feline Leukemia at 10 months old. Blood work done before his neuter revealed. So additional blood work was done. I waited and waited. No one called or returned my calls or messages. They still performed the neuter without telling me anything. Then what I thought was a call about this was actually post op appointment. I visibly cried on the zoom when I said no one had gotten back to me. And yet never to this day have I received a call. All I got was oh he doesn’t have feline Leukemia. No idea why his blood work was off. Never found out. This is far from the only incident. It’s just the worst. And all they ever say is they are short staffed. They had several vets leave the practice and it’s all very revealing. I was with Hills for well over a decade and very loyal. But I’m leaving the practice now. I hope they figure it out. But not the place if your looking for anyone to care at all about your pets now sadly. Somehow they are too short staffed to make any calls back or 7 days later. Yet they have time to respond to every review.

I love Groveway. I found them in 2015 when my friend needed help choosing a vet to take her senior cat to say goodbye. I had never been in the room for a euthanasia before and I was very nervous, but needed to be there to support my friend. The entire staff was so compassionate and empathetic. They gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye. They really created a peaceful environment and they handled everything with so much grace that it really felt very beautiful. I have been taking my own pets there ever since. They also helped me have a peaceful goodbye with my first dog, what could otherwise have been a dark experience, was handled with such care. They even created a paw impression for us, which was very special. I have been taking all my animals to Groveway since 2015. My two cats and my other senior dog that has major oral surgery with them as well. I could not give Groveway and their staff higher praise or recommendation. Their new veterinary, Dr. Sip, is wonderful. And crazy enough, she specialized in exotics, which saved my friends chinchilla who really was on the brink. Everyone at this hospital is incredible, your pets will be in the best hands. 🐾

My boyfriend and I have 2 green anoles and when one of them stopped eating, we weren’t sure what we were going to do. He was able to call Groveway and get a same day appointment, and the entire staff was extremely helpful! The vet gave us so much helpful and informative advice, and everything was fairly affordable. We continued to go back for followup care, and we so appreciate everything Groveway has done for us :)

Horrible experience. Arraigned appointment, walk-ins received priority service, politely inquired, waited 30 minutes to receive a bold face lie that I made derogatory comments to a young aide lacking people skills. I waited patiently only to receive a bias report from a doctor who relayed the outrageous report and declined to see my dog who was bleeding around the neck! I plan to heighten this report since the Vet manager never contacted me, pursuant to a promise from the doctor. Do NOT take your pet to this terrible place of business.

Scheduled appointment 2+ weeks out. Received no confirmation.1 week out received confirmation that the scheduled appointment was cancelled.Rescheduled the appointment for 2+ weeks further out.Received phone confirmation of appointment 24 hours prior.Arrived to office 20 minutes early to appointment.Dropped off my cat with the receptionist. Receptionist informed me the appointment would take approximately 30 minutes to one hour.Received a phone call 30 minutes later saying we cannot see your pet today despite having already dropped off my cat for an appointment.Phone receptionist stated the vet was running behind and there was no time for my appointment.I rode my bike a few miles to get here, only to find out my confirmed appointment could not be honored.I am not sure what they did to my cat while he was in their possession, but I am concerned it was not for his well-being as hes been irritated and stressed since returning home. My cat experienced unnecessary trauma during this visit and travel.Customer service on the phone is incredibly unprofessional and rude. They refused to listen and understand my situation of not being able to easily access the office. Online scheduling application is awful– the times shown on the calendar are not available and will get cancelled or pushed back. The vet should honor all appointments that are scheduled and that THEY themselves confirm. Incredibly appalled and disappointed with the lack of service, empathy, and compassion of this business. If you have a confirmed appointment and arrive early, that appointment should be guaranteed. They said they would contact me to follow up and never did so. Instead they blacklisted me from their online portal. Really disappointed to have left my loved pet in their care for such a duration and unsure of what they could have done to him, considering they were too busy for my appointment. They cant seem to event have a shred of courtesy to follow up post-care. They only value repeat clients who give them money on a regular basis. Shockingly, my cat now has fur missing and lesions. Really perturbed as to how this has occurred. Please seek care elsewhere if you are concerned about your pets well-being. There are plenty of competent veterinarians in the area– this is not one of them.

Purchased a Groupon for a wellness exam and some labs. The staff wanted to charge me for things included in the groupon even though I warned them that I purchased it. I constantly had to tell them, here, this is supposed to be included, they would then very unwillingly go and remove items from the bill. It felt like they were trying to include it and see if I would notice. If they do not wish their customers to use groupons, then they should not advertise themselves on the website. The wait was extremely long, the staff did not want to work with my anxious dog and I suspect that most likely it was because I had a groupon. They refused to work with the dog and prescribed anxiety meds for us to come in on a different date. Apparently, they messed up the dosage and when we came in the second time, the pills did not work at all (thank goodness it was not the other way around). The staff said that we should increase the dosage and refused to work with my dog once again. I never came back and went to a different vet that was able to work with my dog with no medication, just some patience. The staff at this facility needs patience, my experience made me feel as they were just trying to overcharge you and get you off their hands.

Manager and owner wouldn’t own up to mistake. In response to owner:I arrived 10 minutes late for my 4:30pm appointment for my sick animal and I called ahead to inform the clinic. When reflecting this to owner, he claimed that the 15 minute grace period policy can be changed at their discretion. This is a demonstration of how the clinic doesn’t own up to mistakes and twists policy as they will.

Being new pet parents, we wanted to give our kitty the best life possible and we wanted him to be taken care of. I looked up many vets with good reviews and stumbled on this place. However we were very disappointed from our first appointment to what will be our last. We’ve come to understand that FIP is a difficult diagnosis. The vet we spoke to said this was a critical case but it was not treated as such. We constantly had to contact the clinic to get updates just to hear the vet techs say “let me ask my lead” or “the doctor that manages your case will have to read you the results”. Every single encounter we had with this place was terrible. No communication from the staff, as I mentioned, we had to literally call all day to be able to speak to a doctor. From the first appointment being rescheduled to a lame apology from vets who are not there for your pet’s best interest. My first appointment was canceled because they took down the wrong phone number and didn’t have enough staffing that day. I was unaware because they couldn’t reach out to me even though they had my email address. However, my kitten was seen much later in the evening. The last appointment was when we found out our kitten most likely has FIP. We took him in Wednesday and their internet was down. I had to make multiple trips with and without my kitten. My kitten was uncomfortable and the fluid build up around his lungs made it hard for him to breathe. They finally got him in in Wednesday and x-rayed him and removed the liquid. The vet examined the liquid and ruled out an infection. They sent the liquid out to get tested for FIP. Fast forward to Friday two days later and no word from anyone on the status of our cat. We called and were told no doctor was available to read us the results. Monday comes around and still no call or email. We called relentlessly and were told the same story that only a doctor could read us the results and no doctor was available. Finally Monday night right before closing we call and get through to a doctor who explains the results are not definitive but they do show all the signs of FIP. We are heart broken and so sad. We are moving forward and trying to find the best care and solution for our kitten. Very frustrated with how much time was wasted at this hospital. The lack of care and concern for our kitten is very disheartening.

Really cool place to bring your pet. Groupon friendly. COVID-19 procedure in place, no one enters the facility, wait in car, check in and communicate via phone. They come to take your pet inside for exams and consults through phone. I think they should do the exam and consult via live streaming (Facetime) so we can see our pets. Otherwise the visit was pleasant. Enough parking spaces but limited shaded spots, it can get really hot. But once they take your pet inside, ask them for ETA, so you can go get coffee or grocery shopping at Trader Joes across the street.

We recently moved to the Hayward area and were recommended to this hospital by friends. I called for an appointment and the very nice Cindy was able to squeeze me in at our preferred time after work. We saw Dr Leaper who was very thorough and friendly. We only waited about 2 minutes before being seen. The technicians, I think Jennifer and Denise, we kind and gentle to our little dog and explained all medications and recommendations. We were checked out promptly by Amanda, the Client Service Manager. She too was bubbly and informative. All in all a great experience. The front of the building is a little old and run down, but the place is bright and clean inside and the people were great. Apparently she doesn’t usually do the opening shift, and had never handled a cremation before (she’s fairly new). She tried a few different things on the computer, found a reasonable solution, and got me out of there so my son would not be late for school. They like to recommend a lot of optional procedures to rise the cost of the visit and on their forms even ask you for your occupation and employer.I agree with another reviewer that Groveway just tries to squeeze as much money from you as possible, but I dont see this as something particularly bad, as long as its done through painless additional procedures recommendations. The fact that they totally failed to diagnose deadly disease, WHILE recommending this nonsense is absolutely another story. Will never use Groveways services again...

Spent nearly a thousand dollars here only for the vet to tell me he didnt find anything with the ultrasound, nor the follow up ultrasound under sedation. I understand the limitations of detecting issues with this method, but I wish he had recommended seeing an ultrasound specialist after our first visit, and before taking my money a second time. The repeat visit provided zero answers or clarity to my dogs condition. Also, gave my dog the worst razor burn after shaving his belly for the initial ultrasound. It was so bad it ended up getting infected he was scratching so crazy despite putting creams and wraps around his midsection. The razor burn was still an issue though not as bad the second time, but this was likely a response to me pointing out how bad it was the first time.

Short, sweet and honest. Voted the BEST for ten consecutive years;enough said. However, just in case you want a bit more information, I will gladly expound my opinion.Theodore, my lovable labradoodle had an ear infection :( and frankly, my current vet has been frustrating me for quite sometime, so I decided to contact Hills Veterinary Hospital based on a good friends referral. I was initially concerned because Theodores records would have to be transferred to Hills Veterinary Hospital, but when I called they were happy to contact Theos vet and have all the records transferred to them; problem solved. Hills Veterinary Hospital immediately scheduled an appointment for Theo with Dr.Kestler and since I was a first-time customer, they sent me a coupon for $10 off my first visit. I arrived early, but did not have to wait long at all. They examined him thoroughly and were very friendly andprofessional. They scheduled a follow-up appointment to recheck the ear. A couple days after, they followed up just to see how Theo was feeling, which I thought was great customer service...my other vet rarely made that call. My follow-up appointment was with Dr. Hill, which solidified my future loyalty with Hills Veterinary Hospital. He was great with Theo and explained, in detail what caused the infection and showed me the inside of Theos ear with this amazing camera scope. I walked away with valuable information and a sense of confidence knowing that Theo was and will always be in good paws when he visits Hills Veterinary Hospital in the future. BTW... you can go to their website and request an appointment which I find very convenient and so 21st century. Give them a call, you will glad you did!Ruff,Michael

Then putting him on medication and denying the side effects, when I looked up the medications and the side effects; the doctor had lied. then had the nerve to say my puppy needed to be put to sleep 4 times in less than a minuet, and compared him to a gun toting child killer and all hunting breeds should have to wear muzzles 24 hours a day 7days a week. No one should take their pets to a vet who has their own agenda, making decisions for you without consulting you. When I called other vets they even implied that my puppies ear could have been cut off before the anesthesia has taken affect, by the way my puppy reacted to that doctor on the check up. Im disgusted on how a vet could treat any animal in this manor. I could never tell anyone to ever use this vet ever again! All of the hard work and devotion to animals that Russ Hackler was known for, is gone.

I live in San Francisco and dont have a car, but I still come all the way to Groveway Veterinary for my ferrets care. Their prices are better than any SF vets Ive been to, and their care is top-notch. Dr. Andrew Moffett is one of the most generous and caring doctors Ive ever met, and hes extremely knowledgeable about ferrets. My little girl ferret Daphne passed away due to adrenal gland cancer a couple of years ago. Dr. Moffett didnt see her until she was too far gone to be helped much because we started out at a different vet, but he was very kind & gave accurate advice as to her treatment. I then took her brother Max to be seen for the same illness, and come to find out poor Max has a second, pancreatic cancer, as well. Luckily we caught his illness much earlier and hes had a mostly healthy year with Dr. Moffetts help. Hes now 7 years old and still plays with his newer ferret friend Buddy, who is 3.One final story: There were a couple of weeks where I thought we were going to lose Max: He stopped eating, lost over half his body weight, and seemed listless and uninterested in life. Dr. Moffett was so concerned that he actually met me on a street corner to pick up Max and take him over to the clinic himself, when I couldnt get out of work to do it. Then he returned Max to me later that night after blood work & testing, we updated his medicines and he started eating again. I cant think of any other doctor who would provide that kind of caring, beyond-the-call-of-duty service, and Im so grateful to know Dr. Moffett and Groveway Veterinary Clinic are here for us.
