Other than the hospital room being rather small, the service was outstanding. The nursing staff was outstanding. I showed both professionalism and a caring service. The meals served were the best I’ve ever seen in any hospital stay. Facilities were well cared for and clean. I would recommend San Juan Mercy hospital to anyone.

Every person that I met was kind and courteous. The ER waiting area is WAY TOO SMALL. I waited there for eight hours. The Discharge Planner went home without completing my transfer. I had to spend the night on an uncomfortable gurney in ER. An unnecessary expense and inconvenience. The only person (voice) that I disliked was the woman who answered the ER phone early AM on 10/6. The call light in my room was broken. I called the operator and asked to be transferred to ER. The woman who answered rudely said “You need to call your nurse” and hung up on me twice.

The doctor, nurses and assistants in the Mercy San Juan Emergency Room are very devoted to the care and well being of their patients. They contacted the hospital’s ophthalmologist and got an appointment for me for the next day! The ER doctor wrote a prescription for antibiotic drops to immediately begin protecting my eye. Every person I came in contact with from the moment I walked in to the ED was amazing. I ended up being admitted and the staff who took care of me could not have been any better. I felt heard and safe and comfortable. I left there knowing they had exhausted all efforts. Even the nurse who called to check on me once I was home was so thoughtful and kind! I will forever choose Mercy San Juan for my hospital needs. One last thing…..buy them all tacos and give them a raise!

Long story short, I went to Sutter ER because I was having trouble breathing. Without doing a single thing, the Dr said I was too young and should go home. I refused and demanded blood work which they did and it came back normal. I was then sent home. 4 days later I couldnt catch my breath and went to Mercy ER and was IMMEDIATELY taken back for an EKG, blood work and CT scan where the Dr found I had pleurisy and the inflammation around my lungs was causing my pain and shortness of breath. The Dr and nurses that worked with me were all SO patient and kind. The Dr took his time to hear me out when I told him something was wrong, instead of brushing me off because I was too young to be having chest pains. I will never go anywhere else again. Mercy delivered both of my boys as well and the only reason I went to Sutter in the first place was because it was closer to me and I was in pain. Wont make that mistake again ❤️

A big problem with people on or in the past, being on opiods. Not everyone on them has a problem with them. I used to be a doctor chaser. However Im not one now. Id really appreciate it next time if there is ever is one to not get treated as such. I try very hard. Notto go!! The last time I went my doctor sent me over to see if had a blood clot in my leg. Its ridiculous to see that such rude and disgusting people still get to work in this medical center as professionals when they clearly are not and dont act like it. No person needs to have personal annoyances taken out on them or need to be told that they are only getting good services because of how they are feeling at the moment or for the day. You cant do your job properly or want to help a patient with troubles have someone else help or force yourself to actually do your job in a kindly manner its not so difficult. Help in any way you can or just dont be in that profession at all. We are in serious need of help from nurses and doctors not rude and disgusting services and that goes for the so called nurse named Kirsten Gunderson.

DO NOT GIVE BIRTH HERE. The post care after birth was the worst care I have ever received at any healthy facility I have ever been to. Get locked up in a womens prison you might get better care. Each nurse progressively worse than the last and judgmental. The cherry on top was the incompetent nurse Gladys. I remember her most because when I was doubled over in pain unable to hold my newborn son in fear of dropping him I was told in a get over it tone that its normal. It was push to get discharged on time a orderly fashion because she kept messing up paperwork, medications and appointments. I had to point out at least six different issues, mistakes and still ended up get the wrong appt time when arriving at appts for care at the same hospital. No one offered any care with our newborn. Interrupted sleep ever 15 mins and we left there three days sleep deprived. Long story short, anywhere but here.

Last year, my wife was having chest pain and difficulty breathing. I brought her here to the emergency room, and she got a chest x-ray. They found that she has asthma, and gave her a steroid, inhalers, and a prescription for inhalers. Thankfully, she had MediCal at the time. However, we later got a statement that the amount charged for her service was over $8,000. Thats right, not $80, not $800, but around eight and a half thousand dollars. This was charged to MediCal, so it was paid for by the government. This is one of the reasons why the government has so much debt, why health insurance is so unaffordable, and why people are afraid to go to the hospital because of the bills that come afterwards. I am thankful that they saved my wifes life, but I think they should reconsider their pricing for an emergency asthma treatment, and for all of their services.

The 2 physical therapists were very patient to assure that I was able to ambulate/stepping using my operated leg/foot with my walker! I was overjoyed to be able to be discharged home rather than be admitted overnight!I knew of what to be expected the day of surgery! Most patients do not know!! There should had been written forms of explaining the process of being admitted at business office, transported to prepop surgery area to be seen by RN for OR gown,IV & antibiotics and EMR charting, transport to holding area in OR and be seen by RNs & MDs (surgeons & anesthesiologist), transport to OR for surgery, postop anesthesia care unit to care for patient that takes 1-2 hrs and lastly to postop care unit to be discharged home or transferred to hospital room bed if needed for continual clinical care until ready to be discharged home! I just had heart surgery there 10 days ago. I was in intensive care for four days in recovery. And four days after intensive care. In a room in the cardiac telemetry unit. From start to finish I felt like I was in good hands. People who knew what the hell they were doing. And they were doing it well. Words wont convey the care I received from the nursing staff. This would be my first and last time ever coming here, it was literally a waste of time being seen and discharged while told there was nothing wrong and given advice that I was already doing to begin with to take care of myself. The unprofessionalism in all departments is very heartbreaking to see, especially in the ER. I had a RN joke sarcastically in a rude way about leaving and the registration lady give me attitude and sighed when I was trying to have her fix an issue on my paperwork.I ended up coming back to get a new doctor’s note after receiving a call from the doctor that saw me earlier that I tested positive for Covid-19 and the nurse that helped me at the front desk was the worst. She was very disrespectful and would talk over me repeatedly saying “I’m only giving you a note for 3 days” whenever I tried to explain that the doctor informed me over the phone it needed to be 10 days. Who in their right mind gives someone who has been diagnosed with Covid a 3 days notice to return back to work when it goes against CDC guidelines, especially a healthcare professional? She continued to argue with me and didn’t care when I informed her about my results or the fact that I had told her the doctor from the hospital called me when she asked if someone reached out to me (she obviously wasn’t listening or ignored me when I first told her) and still wrote me a note for 3 days. I asked her for a copy of my results to be printed and she ended up stating that I “caught her on a good day” and went on rambling and talking to herself that I was the first person she was “nice to” due to the fact that her car wasn’t as hot to get into and she didn’t have to take it out on anyone. Regardless of her pointless rambling none of what she was saying should be a reason to take it out on a patient. So what if your car is hot to get into? We’re in the middle of summer what do you expect. To conclude, there was no point in me coming back to get a note that had the same amount of time written on it as the note that was given to me prior before I was diagnosed with covid alongside with the rudeness and carelessness that these people who call themselves “professionals” who work here have. After the experience with the nurse I was in distraught and ended up breaking down in my car after how hurt and disrespected I felt throughout the encounter. Rude people should not be in professional settings especially with people who come in already vulnerable. Highly do not recommend.

My husband has been at MSJ 2x in the last few months. The staff are mostly amazing, so the ones that arent really stick out. For instance my husband was there longer than necessary cuz the Dr didnt listen when I said he wasnt giving him enough medication (a diuretic) though I was right and his PC Dr prescribed it. Hes a big guy. We had a physical therapy tech who didnt do the exercises my husband needed cuz she didnt read his chart then instead of helping him said he shouldnt be allowed to go home, we did and he was fine. On top of the my husband who had swollen, painful legs due to cellulitis was stuck for 24hrs in a bed that broke. He was in horrible pain. Our poor nurse felt so terribly that she got him moved to a bigger room but moving him was terribly painful too. There is no reason a patient should be stuck in a bed for 24 hrs. That was a big problem. However, the most glaring problem was the social worker who was supposed to get him a home health aide to take care of his midline. Its been 9 days, the midline comes out day after tomorrow and its never been changed because mercy dropped the ball. Though theyre prob not the only ones. Make sure you advocate for yourself and your family. There were some people that I feel were wonderful, Julie the rn from 4n went above and beyond, was kind, and patient and took impeccable care of my husband. Shes an excellent nurse. Stefanie and Kristy from physical therapy were awesome, and Dr. Robert Zimmerman, an infectious disease specialist, was so thorough, patiently explained everything and answered all my questions, and was so proficient that he really set my husband and I at ease. On top of that, walking around MSJ most of the staff would smile and say hello, people always made sure I wasnt lost, everyone from the Drs to the cafe staff, to the janitors were very kind. Hospitals can be sad places, but not MSJ because they seem to work at making it a positive environment for healing.

We ended up going to UC Davis as we had received any relief from the last 2 visits over the last 2 days at Mercy. 6 hours later and multiple tests later, they diagnosed her with a severe kidney infection. She was prescribed these monster pills for the infection due to the severity of it.Not only did Mercy not take care of my daughter and diagnosis the problem, but now I have a $3,500 in medical bills due to the 3 different trips including to UC Davis.I have called and emailed the hospital to ask for forgiveness on the San Juan bill as due to them not taking care of the issue, it creates a 3rd bill for 2k dollars. Theyre response has been that they have performed a service so I owe them the money, even though they got paid by insurance already as well. At what point was I suppose to keep giving them a try if they failed 2 times already only to have a little girl crying in pain?I dont have a problem with San Juans doctors and staff as I know they are doing g all they can with what they have. They had him sign paperwork he did not understand one being a DNR . Which I had to back off and told them to remove after speaking with my father and telling him what he signed. He wasn’t getting the needed care and I fought to get him into ICU where he finally was getting the needed attention and improving. Then after only 48 hours still on 98 % oxygen the doctor without ever contacting me transferred my father to a poor level of care that could not give him the care that he needed. The nurses only called me to complain about my fathers attitude and that they couldn’t deal with him and that they had kept the DNR I told them and my father told them to remove and they were going to put him on morphine and stop feeding him. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing !!!!! Basically, because my dad was confused alone and hard to deal with they were just going to drug him and let him die because the idiot nurses on this level couldn’t figure out how to take the time like ICU did how to touch and care for my father. Take in mind, that they literally gave up on my father once he was transferred only 45 minutes into theses doctors & nurses shifts. Then had the NERVE when I told then that ICU was able to handle him and that he should have never been transferred to tell me I needed to come down and basically be reprimanded for fighting for my dads life. I asked if there could now insure me and my husbands safety as you couldn’t and told me I would not be allowed to see him when he was admitted and the whole last 12 days due to him being in an active Covid ward. They said no of course we can’t insure your safety but you need to come here because we can’t deal with your dad and you need to understand that. Again, couldn’t believe what the hell I was hearing. As he should have never been pulled out of ICU!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because I did not have a signed power of attorney and now they knew that they TOLD me they were no longer going to try and help my dad and we’re now just going to put him in Comfort Care ( drugging him) and stop feeding him !!!!!!!!!!!!!! This hospital murdered my father!!!!!! Yes murdered my dad!!!!!! He should have never been removed out of ICU because he was a Medicare patient so you could make room for someone with more money better insurance. My father was treated and tortured and murdered by theses awful doctors & nurses!!!!! Do not take anyone you love for care here EVER and I mean EVER!!! It’s is a horrible hospital with horrible people not caring for the people that need them at their most vulnerable!!!! They took total advantage of Covid restrictions and that I could not be there in person to advocate my fathers care made unilateral decision without ever contacting me after I TOLD them over and over again to call me with any changes they are considering BEFORE they make them!!!!!!! They were awful and rude and horrible and my poor dad died in the care of these terrible people!!!!! I will never forgive what this hospital did to my father!!!!!Shameful how you treated my dad and I’m sure many others during the pandemic. I will do everything in my power for the rest of my days to tell anyone who will listen to save their family’s from this hospital!!!!!!!! Don’t ever ever ever use this horrid hospital. SAVE A LIFE DON’T USE MERCY SAN JUAN!!!!!!!⛑🚫🚫🚫🚫‼️

I got really first rate care here! Everyone was really nice & very professional. The food is still yummy! They give big portions. I couldnt finish my meals. Almost 40 yrs ago I was here for a couple of days & the food was really good then too. That was when you could smoke in your room! I dont care about that now because I finally quit! One nurse in recovery was a little bit bossy. I had just woke up after surgery. She gave me a tiny cup of ice. Then I needed more. If she had brought a larger container it would have lasted longer. I had a couple of questions here & there. She kept saying these things werent important during the several hours I was there...??? It was weird that she couldnt take a moment to get ice which was just steps from my bed or to answer my questions. She didnt know if they were important. They were obviously important enough for me to ask. Neither would take long. It is part of my care. My mouth was so dry. It had been 15 hrs since I had to stop food & drink before surgery. I wasnt demanding it that second. She could take a moment to get it. She did take the time to tell me that asking for ice or trying to ask questions just wasnt important while she was standing there not doing anything except taking the time to tell me this. She wasnt rude in her tone though. I needed blood. What they brought wasnt my type. Even tough it was compatible I felt they could bring my exact type. I refused that one so they needed to get my A-neg type. So for more than an hour she kept wandering around carrying the blood like she didnt know what to do w/ it. I know because there were 2 clocks in front of me. She made some calls then would wander around some more. The other nurses would ask her what was going on w/ the blood. I couldnt hear much but I heard a little plus I could see their mannerisms. Blood is supposed to remain at a certain temp. I hope they tossed it after that! The recovery room isnt that big so I could see what she was doing. I never did get to ask her my questions. She was calm but seemed a little bit stressed out or like she could only concentrate or focus on on thing at a time. She wasnt mean & bossy isnt exactly the right word. Its just they way her brain works. She did take care of me & was polite. This is a really good hospital. Thanks for the supreme care from really good nurses & all of the other great staff & really tasty food!!

I had a wound on my right leg that just would not heal. My doctor had tried everything and I asked if a wound care clinic would be my best option. I was looking for a wound clinic and was so lucky to have found Mercy San Juan Outpatient Wound Clinic. I asked that my doctor refer me to them, which they did, and I was scheduled within a couple of days. The doctor and the nurses were so helpful and educated me on what I should be doing. We tried various ointments, dressings, and wraps, and now my leg is healed! I highly recommend this wound care center because they care about their patients and really want them to get better! Bravo!

Sounds like everyone in this hospital has attitude! My father is in the hospital the nurses hung up on me 2 times . Then said he’s not their. Then when I said the room number they said he’s on the phone. It’s been complete disrespect and attitude for each phone call I receive!!

My wife was brought in last year after we’d been hit by a car. I was thankfully sent to a different hospital because her experience was horrific. One doctor...literally in front on my brother in law and my wife..declared that she wanted my wife out of the ICU because she’s a Medi-cal patient. She was given a CT scan and told that she was badly bruised on her right side...but what they missed were three broken ribs. She complained of pain in her feet but they ignored that and now...a year later...her recovery will be even longer. They ignored her brain trauma which delayed her recovery from a bad concussion. Honestly the list just goes on. If you have a choice I would advise you stay FAR from this hospital. They abused my wife and sadly there isn’t any recourse for her.

Above and beyond services rendered by staff.. Thankful and grateful for bringing my baby out to this world and take good care of me after my C-Section delivery.. We have smooth transition from admission, operation/surgery, healing/postpartum, lactation, discharge and even after discharge follow up care.. Special thanks to Dr. Zielinsky and crew during my operation, Postpartum RN staff (Lorie, Olga and Gladys) and Lactation gurus..

The RN was very good at explaining what she was going to be doing while collecting the sample. Even when she was moving the swab deeper into my nose for a better collection. I appreciate it.
