I am the mother of a 32 year old man who has realized great success with his sobriety , living in a By The Sea Recovery house. The support system there has been remarkable. We are so grateful that our son knows hes not unique to this disease. And we know that upon his re-entry in to his community at large hell have tools learned at By The Sea that are lasting. We are grateful beyond words for the support he has received while @ By The Sea. The management is outstanding. I cannot speak highly enough of this wonderful agency. Thank you By The Sea.

My personal experience dealing with Marc Gladden owner of “By the Sea Recovery” has been an absolute nightmare and left my life in complete chaos. In early May 2021, I first contacted Mark directly about moving into his Sober living home and attending the IOP (Intensive Out Patient) treatment classes that his facility offered. At that time, I had about 2 weeks left at “Cliffside” a well managed program in Malibu Ca.The most important factor in the move was making sure that I secured a Sober spot for myself and my service animal “Bear”.I began searching for living arrangements early, to ensure that I had no last minute mixups or anything falling through. I clarified with Mark that myself and my Service animal were approved and he went as far as to tell me that he even had a bed with my name on it. He said that As long as there were no problems with myself or the animal and as long as I treated the situation responsibly, I was cleared to move in. Yet Mark Gladden backpedaled on every promise that he made. The first day I moved in, I introduced my Service Animal to her pet golden retriever and he became aggressive and began growling at My dog Bear who remained calm. The house managers response was coldhearted and unreasonable to say the least and she insisted I left my dog in the car overnight. This violates my legal right of having my service animal Inhabit anywhere I live or travel. This contradicted every agreement He had made with me. I figured everything would be cleared up in the morning so I Venmo’d Mark $1000 which was 2/3’s of the monthly rent.. I spent two nights sleeping at the sober living facility while attending five hours of classes during the daytime. Classes that were in no way suitable for the level of treatment cost that Mark and Recovery by the Sea had advertised (and charged for).As opposed to having a large group setting with the bonding social interaction of a group dynamic which is what is to be expected, it was just myself, doing an hour zoom meeting with a psychiatrist staring at me through a computer screen while somewhere in the Midwest, which was uncomfortable non-professional and far from personable. Followed by four- hour long sessions back-to-back with only myself and the office facilitator. No camaraderie or support of a group setting, Just myself and the office girl who administered my evaluation and treatment plan although she self-admittedly let me know that she was not qualified to do a psychiatric evaluation. With the large amounts of money that my insurance company paid for my treatment, the nickel and dime operation that Mark was able to Mickey-Mouse together and just barely scrape by the minimum legal requirements yet rake in the same pay day. I tried keeping calm and passive about everything that I had seen, not to mention my money had already being paid to Mark. Yet On the morning of my third day on my way to classes I received a text message saying that I would be allowed to stay but Bear would not!? So because leaving my $6000 Service dog was obviously not an option I was literally left uprooted and scrambling without a place to live. All of my belongings, truck, toy Hauler and my dog were tossed out and Mark had just Taken the only money that I had at the time..Mark told me that he would refund my money which was the least he could do for putting me in such a difficult predicament. But soon learned the Despicable depth of Marks selfishness and greed.. When I received my refund check from Mark he only returned $500 of the thousand dollars that was given to him only 2 1/2 days before! I was in disbelief! I would’ve even understood a prorated rent for the two nights I was there but it is only his selfish corruption that could somehow justify keeping $500 of mine, knowing my life was already shaken by his instability. Seven years ago Mark Gladden was a scumbag drug addict low-life. No he’s a scumbag low-life that found out how to manipulate a $1 million industry. To this day Mark still has not returned my medications that I’ve requested multiple times to retrieve.

I own a Womens Sober Living Home next to Present Moments. One of my residents went there for out-patient and spoke very highly of their program. She would come home at night, excited about everything she learned. She said this was the first time she was able process her feelings in a group. She spoke very highly of the counselors their and was a changed women when she was finished. I appreciate the quality of treatment that Present Moment Recovery has to offer and will continue to refer my residents to them. From a friendly neighbor, Sober Living Today, LLC

I researched a number of sober living facilities in the area and found that By The Sea Recovery was absolutely the best. Mark Gladden is the owner and CEO of the facility and he runs a great program. He communicates very well and tells it like it is with no B.S. He is honest, fair and compassionate. He genuinely cares about the residents and does whatever he can to help ensure success. Debbie is the house manager and she is amazing. She runs a tight ship but also builds comarady among the residents. She knows when residents need privacy but also recognizes when someone is struggling and needs to talk. She is a great cook and her Chili Colorado is out of this world. I highly recommend By The Sea Recovery to anyone looking for a sober living facility.

My brother, we’ll call him James to protect his anonymity, came here after attending their detox and inpatient program. He’s had tremendous success and currently has over six months of sobriety!! James has attended other treatment facilities and sober living homes and liked this one the best. I was able to visit him here and was very impressed by their organization and structure. Very friendly staff and a great living facility. We highly recommend! Thank You Recovery By The Sea

We highly recommend Mark and his facility. We have dealt with a number of different sober living facilities over the years. This one is by far the most professional and helpful.Mark answered a cold call from us when we were confused and desperate trying to help our son. Six months later he is transitioning to living on his own and we are thankful for Mark and the By the Sea community. Thank you!

I spoke with Mark Gladden owner of by the sea recovery when I was looking for a place for my son. Over the phone Mark offered a very good overview of his sober living facility, made numerous promises. However once my son was checked in Mark was no where to be found, all of his promises never materialized. It was just all hot air to get the money, after that there was nothing. There are several sober living facilities in the area and Im sure you can find something much more suitable. BEWARE

I came in to By the Sea Recovery on January 17th of 2015. I came in as a resident to a loving and inspiring environment. The love that I experienced when I walked through the doors are above and beyond just any sober living. This is not your average sober living. This is a family and band of brothers who help each other every day in every aspect of life that goes beyond just recovery. The culture of the home cant really be put into words other than love and respect. My family has been reunited and we share a beautiful relationship today. By the Sea is the cornerstone of my recovery and I am forever grateful for the experience I have had with the people I consider my family. If you are looking for an inspiring and aesthetic environment where lives are transformed and families reunited through love and integrity then By the Sea is the place for you or your loved one. God bless.
