If you are looking to start here without insurance, and later have to get insurance for other treatments know that if its healthcare.gov insurance that makes it private, highland rivers will kick you to the curb with no warning because they cant serve those with private insurance.. I wish someone had explained this to me when I first signed up instead of letting me build a relationship with these people for almost a year now to be left with more stress because I have to start all over again... I was told to call the consumer ambassador to put in a complaint (after I asked for someone to highlight where in my signed paperwork it explained this policy) but they dont even care enough to return my 3 calls.... My depression is too severe to just be dumped off like this....

My husband has been going there for over 40 years. Everyone is always nice to him. They treat him with respect and makes sure he is on the correct meds for his illness. I credit them and me for doing as good as he is.

I am very grateful to the staff of Highland Rivers of Canton for saving my life. When I came in for my first appointment, I was nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs, but the smile of the receptionists, the calming voice of my case worker, Shelia, and the angelic bedside manner of nurse Gail have made me a believer that this is the best facility of its its kind in the world. Thank you, Highland Rivers, for all you have done for me and many others.

I was referred by Georgia highlands. This is one of the absolute worst places I have ever been to. The waiting room is terrifying, that receptionist does not belong. The doctor and therapist have said that not many people return. Its that grouchy receptionists fault. Shes ruining this place with her ugly attitude. Doctor was great, she gave great advice and was able to make me feel at peace with my condition. The therapist look as if she was only saying things because it was her job and not because she actually believed it herself. My opinion, pull the doctor out to a different location and shut this place down.

I hate to give this place two stars because my therapist , nurse and psychologist does a great job whenever I go but the receptionist is another story.I had to come in and see the psychologist for a very personal reason and the receptionist with the black hair and the tattoo on her left wrist. Wouldnt even try to schedule another appointment because I had seen the doctor a few days ago.First of all it is not up to her how many times I should be able to make an appointment and with who Im making the appointment with. She literally wouldnt even check to see if the doctor had any openings, I was so frustrated with her and all the circles that she was doing to even get her to CHECK for an opening.I ended up giving her a brief description and thats when she FINALLY CHECKED. In all honesty, no one should have to get to the point to where they have to go into any type to description just to get an appointment, let alone for them to even check if there is anything available. Once she finally checked, she gave me options to see the doctor. Not only did I feel bad that I had to explain to her why I wanted to see the doctor while people were in the lobby but I was embarrassed. And on a different occasion I had to be dropped off to my appointment and I had left my phone at home.I ended my session early and called my bf to pick me up. He showed up but I was still in the back and she was supposed to let him know that I was still in session. She was not nice at all! She gave him a nasty attitude, to the point where he got mad and hes level headed. She did so much that it deserves ANOTHER bad review. Also, whoever answer the phones to schedule people has a BAD attitude always sounds annoyed that youre even calling. She honestly should not be working there. With all that being said.. if you can afford to go else where, go. If you do not mind getting an attitude when trying to schedule an appointment, rescheduling, asking questions or for no apparent reason; this might be a good place.

You would think they would hire nice, welcoming people to work the front desk seeing as how this is a mental health clinic and I would assume you’d be dealing with a lot of emotional faces... But instead sits a lady who is so insanely rude it’s forced me to completely change locations to a hour further from home just so I don’t have to encounter this woman’s snarling, judge mental face ever again.I will say, the nurse and the doctor are the only ones with any social skills and kindness in the building (that I’ve come across). They are complete angels and for that I am sad to leave. Please reconsider your front desk help.

My soon to be adopted 7yo son was referred here by Medicaid. During intake (Dr S) I voiced my concerns about my son’s need for long term therapy and getting stuck in the cycle of a new therapist every few months. When bonding to a therapist is paramount to effective therapy, that whole cycle is a waste of everyone’s time. About 6mos in, my son had bonded nicely with his therapist and then I got the call and my son was reassigned. After a few visits with the new therapist, she determined my son’s needs were outside the scope of her abilities. For 2 months I tried to find another therapist. Then I get a call from a new hire telling me he “can” help my son. I voice all the same concerns to the new therapist. At the appointment, I learn that the therapist is not actually a full fledged therapist yet, but he insists on seeing my son. At this point some therapy is better than no therapy and my son likes him. After discussing education options with my son’s EBD teacher, my husband and I came to the conclusion it was time to start medication therapy. So we were referred to Dr S. We won’t be going back to see her. She is more concerned with typing than listening and then wants to put my child on medication she is unfamiliar with. I was told I could research it and get back with her. I then ask if the meds were covered by Medicaid and she didn’t know nor did she make any attempt to find out. Frustrated, I called the psychiatrist who did my son’s initial psychological evaluation almost a year ago and found out she had an opening and started taking Medicaid. I immediately made an appointment to go see her. She has someone she “coordinates” with for medication who also accepts Medicaid and is familiar with the medications they are prescribing as well as what Medicaid will and will not cover.I intentionally left out the names of the 3 therapists my son has seen in less than a year because this issue is not their doing. As I stated, some therapy is better than none. However, when putting a 7yo child on psychiatric medications, I want my child’s doctor to be educated on the medication. Knowledge of insurance coverage is also a must. How effective is medicinal therapy going to be if it’s not covered and cost more than I can afford? This tells me that Dr S is not the least bit concerned with providing her patients with with even mediocre care. So, definitely do go in expecting exceptional.

Im giving this 2 stars because Tammy (the NP) and the counselors I have seen have been awesome. The receptionist with the black hair is a whole different story. She is terrible and should be fired immediately. She has no business working in a facility that deals directly with patient care. She is rude, judgmental and uncaring. On several occasions I have been unable to make an appointment because of her. Once I spoke to someone else I was able to make an appointment immediately.

This place is the worst. My wife went there for help. Me and her sat there for 3 hours just for intake. They set her an appointment for later that day. The psychiatrist was late to her appointment and within 15 minutes was informed that they were forcibly admitting her to the hospital. My wife found out from one of the staff that the doctor had filled it a 10-13 on her before they had even entered the room.Me being my wifes emergency contact never recieved any kind of contact from Highland Rivers about any of this luckily my wife was able to get a single text out informing a friend before the police arrived to escort her to the hospital.Oddly enough all of the doctors at the hospital were clueless on why they sent my wife to them.My opinion is that you should never bring anyone to this facility and that they should be investigated for improper treatment of patients

Dont take your loved ones here. We got no help, the psychiatrist wouldnt listen to us and tried to put my daughter on medication that cost over $600. When we had to go to a different facility for help and came back they blamed everything on me even though my child had an extra diagnosis that is genetic. The counselor (Christine) also lied to my face and told me my daughter would never get better with group therapy, when in fact she had over a month and a half of it at Lakeview and it saved her life.

The receptionist had zero customer service skills. She couldnt answer any questions and she was rude and obnoxious. We waited from 2 pm until after 5 pm before my supposedly suicidal son who was referred from another Agency could see a doctor for a diagnosis. I really felt like we were being held against our will. I wanted to leave but was told if I came back later in the week there was no way wed have less of a wait. It was an absolute nightmare.

This place is such a joke. I really wish that there was quality care for people who have a low income or are on medicaid. They treat you as if you are drug seeking no matter what you are there for. Long waits & the run around. I have just experienced a major lack of compassion from some of the staff here. I refuse to return.

Ive spent more time in this awful place waiting around for my son to be seen and jumping through hoops just so they would accept him as a patient than any other doctor or therapist Ive ever been to! The only reason I took my son here was because of its proximity to our home, but the service is terrible, and the building is rundown. They seem to have an excess of patients, so they could care less about individuals and make that very plain. Im done. Ill drive to Roswell again over this stupidity.

Do not take your child here, do whatever you can to get a private doctor. They 10-13 my daughter with no history of attempted suicide, and no intent. She had a long history of cutting and was under the care of a therapist and we were referred for her to get on antidepressants. Now my child sits in an inpatient facility for no reason and all the other doctors she has seen in the last 24 hours agree that the highland rivers doctor was negligent and has caused more harm than good. She looks at check lists and doesn’t pay attention to the situation. This doctor has legally kidnapped my child and my child and our entire family is now suffering. We will never trust another mental health professional again after this. The employees at this facility warned me before we even saw the doctor, which by the way was 7 hours after we arrived in the office. Zero stars wasn’ t an option!

Dr. S is pointless to see she doesnt care to even attempt help my son all she wants to do is shove more pills down his throat. When you tell her whats going on she just ignores the problem. I have a hard time believing she got her degree anywhere other than the bottom of a cereal box. I wish I could give them negative stars.

Im given incorrect info too many times with no regard for my inconvenience. I had my last two appts. cancelled due to Dr. S. (Whom I like a lot) being sick & having family matters. I had an appt. with my therapist, Stephanie (shes the best!) on the days I had appts. with Dr. S (the appts. that were cancelled by Highland Rivers) I was told by Heather that there was no need for me to worry about being kicked out of the system because I had until June. It has already happened to me once so I was sure to verify I was not in jeopardy of having it happen again. I called a couple of weeks ago to reschedule ( you have a one week window to make an appt.) and was told I was kicked out of the system. This being after I was told by Highland Rivers personnel I had until June to make appts. with Stephanie, as well, as Dr. S.! Now Im told I have to come in and sit waiting for an opening. This is not right. They should consider the MANY times we are told incorrect info. This is not the first time Ive been misled concerning their protocols. They have one group giving specific days for walk ins & then theres the answering service who gives totally different days!!! Just one of many descrepancies. Since the government has implemented this new care system it has been a circus of sorts. Im having to cut my meds into half dosages due to all of this. Fyi, Im disabled, have worked my entire life up until 2009. Ive paid in to this system only to be treated like a bother. Btw, it is not free. I pay the portion MY insurance does not pay. They dont have a problem with putting you on the back burner, so to speak. Very frustrating, to say the least. Renee has been my last contact with Highland today. She sees no reason to work with me due to the lack of training/knowledge/info the employees are giving out.
