Awful, disorganized and dishonest. I called months ago to get a counselor. I live in another city in california and they said there would be a wait as a result. I had to talk to various people to give them my information and it was stressful. I told them I didnt mind waiting because I feel the people in the city they are there for should be given priority versus outsiders. One of the women I told this to said she wished it wasnt that way but honestly I didnt mind.They didnt say anything at any point to indicate that they would ever call me up after waiting a long time and tell me to find another place but thats what happened. The woman who called me was really insensitive and it seemed she couldnt care less that I was never told that I could be dropped after a time of waiting. In fact I dont know why they told me to get counseling there and to go through the process when it would only end up like that. I told the lady that no one had told me this was a possibility and I already waited a long time and to just keep me on the list. But obviously since I havent heard one word after over 3 full months, she didnt keep me on the list or inform me that she wouldnt keep me on the list. She was completely indifferent and told me it was small place and they were limited etc. Ok fine, be as small as you want but dont encourage people to sign up for counseling.I wouldnt have consented to be on the waiting list without being informed of the possibility that they would do this. It tells me they know nothing about trauma because informing and preparation is the best way to deal with traumatized people. She acted like I had pressed them for some huge favor when they were the ones who offered the service. Just disgusting and shameful behavior by people who are supposed to know better. Learn the basics of communication and learn what the boundaries of your organization are before you disrupt someones healing with inept and insensitive handling of their situation when you are supposed to know better. There was nothing mentally healthy in the way they handled any of this with me but they are supposed to be able to help people with mental health? How?

I love this organization. I learned so much by working here. They truly care about everyone they work with and everyone who works for them. Their services are varied for the needs of their clients, so check them out if you or a loved one is in need to support related to sexual assault.
