I do not recommend going to this office, Dr Jody Helms only spends like 5min or so with you and kind of dismisses your symptoms when you know or tried to explain what is going on. I took a family member there and she was crying after visit bc felt like not wanting to help her. Also the lady at check out is rude and would not make eye contact and very short speaking with us. the only nice person was the nurse that took us back to the exam room. Find another physican.

I know specialty and other doctors are few and far between in this area, and I know others seem to have a good experience with Dr. Helms, but I found him to be very condescending and unhelpful. I am very overweight and my weight is constantly up and down. Doctors seem to disagree whether or not I have a ruptured disc in my back. He said there is nothing he can do for me. Luckily, I have a chiropractor who helps me with the periformis muscle that goes across my sciatic nerve, tightening so much I can’t walk without assistance until it loosens up. That is something I think he could have told me. He just didn’t seem to have interest in helping me. I’m glad for the other patients who have had better luck, I think he just saw me as a fat person who needed to lose weight, which I do, but I am having nerve problems in my back that I need help with.

Dr. Helms may be one of the best neurosurgeon, however, the support staff (office) brings his ratings down to a 1 star. The the office/support staff are rude and very unprofessional. I called to request Dr.Helms or the assistant Chris Justus for my 2nd post surgery follow up and was past around to a few staff because of my request. At last, Valerie (dont know her title) insisted that I would see every was available. Had I known their unprofessional officee procedure, I would have. Gone with another provider that I interviewed for my surgery as I was told the same by the other 2 surgeons. I chose Bristol because that is where live and hospital is only 10 minutes from my home.

Staff was very uncourteous just completely down right rude even in the office but over the phone they were a**holes.😤 Trying to explain why I havent been in since my surgery and the guy on the phone acted like it had been months it was just a week over when I was supposed to come so there was no need for his smart a**ed words bc we had serious family members passed away and very sick all within about a week. So check around for your options bc I suffered more the last few weeks than I ever have my whole life wo pain meds I couldnt get up and do stuff so now I have pneumonia its tht coughing what every back patient needs after surgery 🙄😡 its to early to tell if the surgery has helped but since the surgery I had my left hand being numbing like its asleep well for one when I got outta surgery it felt like they tried to break my neck and I couldnt feel my hand for four days!! Like a string down my arm to my hand my neck and upper body was so sore omg I dont know wht they did but dang. He might be alright as a surgeon but Id def look into other options.
