I have been a patient of Dr Shaws for 10 plus years. Today, I returned Kierstans call to schedule my yearly ultrasound and follow-up. Pam asked me what insurance I have. The end result is, after 2 calls, and being given 2 different reasons Dr Shaw doesnt take my secondary insurance ( first told she never took it and second I was told she just stopped) I now have to find an endocrinologist. I am very disappointed in the handling of this situation. And not sure why I wasnt offered to pay the difference after my primary insurance paid?

Office staff is completely unhelpful. Was referred here by Vanderbilt. They didnt want to use the recent results by vandy so my first trip to visit the doctor there was virtually pointless. Came back for lab work. Returned a third time to be told that i had marginal results and to wait. A third lab ran with the same results so no action was taken. Over a year passed with concerns over my thyroid and i wanted to get this checked again but they said they wouldnt see me without another referral???? This song and dance is purely for money. Dr shaw herself did not seem to have a course of action for my slightly abnormal results. Im not big on taking pills but the fatigue was and is not fun to deal with.

I have been a patient of Dr Shaws for almost 20 years. When I came to her, I was in bad shape...weight gain, hair falling out, depression. Classic signs of hypothyroidism, though no DR had diagnosed. She got me back on track immediately and I have felt good since. She is always on time and gives me the time that I need. I HIGHLY recommend her.

Dr. Shaw is very thorough in seeking answers to the medical problems I have. She is focused on getting all the information she needs so she can provide the best medical care. I have a doctor who is willing to take the time and put in the effort to understand my issues before launching into treatment.

One of the best physicians Ive ever had. Knows your history as soon as she walks in, follows up on my numbers and thoroughly knowledgeable in her practice areas. Over the years, I have seen very good resolution of several problems and I am healthier for it all. No issues with insurance or payments. Their office calls when Im due for appointments and shes always prompt. Couldnt ask for more.

Dr Shaw is very nice. I was referred to her when my TSH was out of range. Went to see her and my TSH was back in range, but I did test positive for Hashimoto antibodies. Her nurse told me to come back in three months for more blood work, but they would not prescribe my anything at this time. I asked what to do because of the overwhelming list of symptoms I am experiencing. I was told that because my levels were back in range (even though they were out of range two weeks prior), that my Hashimotos is not causing these symptoms and I should see my PCP.Based on everything I am researching and reading about, that is not true, and Im sad this was her answer. I am going to find functional medicine doctors to help fight through this. If you get this answer from a doctor, please know that you can feel terrible with normal TSH results. If someone who is specialized doesnt believe you, find someone who does. I have a good support system, but if I didnt this would have crushed me so much more than it did (and it did) and I would have felt like all of this was in my head because that was essentially what was implied to me.I dont think Dr Shaw is a bad person, but I believe she is hurting people by telling them their symptoms are not being caused by their diagnosed autoimmune disease. So if you get these response, please keep searching. Western medicine doesnt have an answer if they cannot prescribe a pill. Keep looking for diet modifications and people who will help you.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Shaw for years now and I have always been extremely satisfied with her knowledge, perspective, friendliness of the office staff (such a huge deal to me), and patience with any questions. I ask a lot of questions when it comes to my health and Dr. Shaw has never failed to take the time to explain and answer anything I ask and makes sure to ask every time I’m there if there’s anything else I was wondering about. To have a doctor that truly listens and cares about her patients gives me such peace of mind. I have referred multiple friends to her because I really do trust her that much.

In 2012 I had a complete thyroidectomy due to cancer. I was placed in Dr. Shaws care and according to my recent Physians who treat me now said I had troubles with hormone suppression. But while seeing Dr. Shaw she would tell me that she didnt know what was wrong with me, during tearful and painful visits, she would just suggest I go to my PCP and did not want to deal with the mental and physical issues I faced. I have worked Physicians for years as employment and had never faced such a wall. I just thank God I found Dr. Freeman but now he has moved from Tennessee. Very frustrating to struggle with cancer and hormone replacement.

Dr. Shaw saved my life (literally). I had thyroid cancer 10 years ago. She is very caring, listens to her patients, and works with me on health concerns.

I never write reviews but was so shocked to see these bad reviews for a doctor who I love and who saved my life during a high risk pregnancy. She was very thorough and compassionate. I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone who wants an ethical doctor who doesnt hand out pills to anyone who asks and actually treats the illness as it presents.

Never treats symptoms even when you’re in tears about the way you feel, she always says we will see what the lab work says. Then, I was discharged from her services because I had to keep re scheduling appointments until my insurance kicked in since I got a new job. Her response to this was that she understands the insurance situation but she could no longer keep me on as a patient. She knew my insurance would kick in after 90 days and said no problem I could be seen but then got a letter in the mail that I was discharged. I was also out of my medicine and do not have a thyroid and she refused to fill it. Do not recommend.

My husband had an appointment with this doctor last year, had blood tests done and never got the actual lab results from the office (like other doctors offices do). He got on a higher dosage for his hashimotos and was encouraged to schedule visits in the future. When we ran into financial troubles and cancelled his next appointment, they got extremely pushy. When his prescription ran out, he called in to get another refill (which other doctors have done with no question). They gave him the runaround, saying he was required to come in to get another prescription. When we told them we could not because of financial reasons, they agreed to fill the 30-day prescription but told us to look for another doctor, that they couldnt be our doctor without coming in. (CAN WE SAY MONEY-HUNGRY!!!)I understand going to get your blood checked/levels checked every once in a while, but this was just ridiculous! I highly suggest finding another doctor that isnt so restrictive. I should have trusted my gut when reading the other reviews about this doctor and her practice. I should have never gone there in the first place. STEER CLEAR!

My thyroid disorder was diagnosed in 1996 and since then Ive seen Endocrinologists for treatment. I have never had an Endocrinologist ask me to come back every 6-8 weeks for blood work like Dr. Shaw. Also, she asks for a visit with her each time--So every 6-8 weeks Im being charged over $200 a pop. She comes across as very friendly but Ive learned after 3 years of being her patient that my comments mean nothing and my blood levels are all she goes by. No Endocrinologist in my past has had a problem with seeing me once a year and giving me a years prescription for Synthroid so that tells me its not me or my thyroid disorder that has changed, its this doctor and her practice. The only thing good I can say is that the wait time was always short and she ran on time but to me, thats not worth the repeated appointments, blood work, and bills.

Refuses to treat the actual symptoms. Will only look at numbers and youre completely out of luck if you still have thyroid symptoms.

Went to Amy Shaw 3 yrs ago for thyroid Hashimotos. She refused to do a spit adrenal gland test, only worked with my labs and felt sorry for me when I told her about my gut issues and never looked any further into my issues with it. I repeatedly told her that I was dieting and exercising everyday, 7 days a week and was putting on around 5 lbs a month. Topped off at 195. She refused to prescribe armour or do a full labs test. She told me that maybe I should starve MY WEIGHT off????? I have since found a doctor that is compassionate and intelligent!!! My adrenal glands were shot! Found that out with the Sylvia spit test! I wasnt converting my t4 to t3 and had very little of reverse t3. Thank God for good doctors that have more intelligence than ego !! Im down to 155 and losing more! Feel better than ever before and got my adrenal glands to perform! Doctors like Shaw blame the patient for their own lack of being experienced with the whole complete understanding of thyroid and Hashimotos.... Shame on her!!!!!!!
