Horrible selection of womens high ankle boots and almost no sizes available for mens. That would have been fine but the staff is what really tipped this over to 1 star. We were told by the shoe guy that if we sign up for rewards you pay $20 but then immediately get a $20 gift card and 10% off. We thought thats great, we will just order from the front since they didnt have our size and get the rewards. We got upfront and no one knew how to order the shoes so we had to wait for this woman who seemed to be the only one who could do it. We asked to sign up for the rewards, she does it and then hands us the card and says it will be active after midnight. We explained to her that we were told it was immediate and she said no thats not how it works. She then spent 5 minutes trying to push us into still getting it. We told her what felt like 100 times that we would most likely not be able to use the card in the timeframe so if she could cancel our order and she just would not stop trying to push us into it, it was insanely uncomfortable. We ended up buying the shoes direct from the manufacturer for $60 less per pair.

Went in today looking for specific items. Everyone from the store greeter (who directed me to the right area) to the cashier (who was polite and courteous) were wonderful. I got exceptional service from Regan who helped me find just what I needed. She knew her inventory and was nearby to swap out sizes as I tried on the items. She made me feel as though I was the only customer there and was happy to help me. She is a treasure of an employee!! Great experience today! Kudos REI!

REI is always a fun place to look around. They have very up to date clothing for the out doors with all the special fabric you could think of. The bike section usually has a good selection of clothing and even has a PARK tools section when you need that special bike tool. The staff has always been really friendly and knowledgeable about the products they sale. The premium products do come with a premium price. I guess most people do realize that. I have been a Co-op member for a long time but this was the first time I have had to return a faulty product and have learned that their legendary return policy isnt all its cracked up to be. I purchased an inflatable kayak and one side was loosing air so I took it back for an exchange 2 weeks later and after 1 use. I was told that it had a $100 price increase the week after I purchased it and that if I wanted to exchange it I would need to pay the $100 difference. Apparently I can have a brand new defective product for $100 less or I can pay a $100 premium to have one that actually works as intended. From now on I will buy from a mom and pop shop and pay the premium to support locals or buy from Backcountry. All I wanted was a working kayak but apparently that costs extra.

I just read through a number of recent reviews. Most of those that are 1 star complain about REIs mask policy at the time. Those reviewers seem to think theyre so very special, that the rules dont apply to them. How selfish! How childish! The rules were simple and rational. They were in place to keep us all safe.Im so very sorry that the employees of REI were subjected to such abuse. The good people of Nashville (and I do believe that were the majority) happily followed the rules.

Worst experience ever! If you are looking to be intimidated and harassed for wearing a mask 1mm under your nose, this is the place to go! Today I shopped and was asked to wear a mask which I did. I had two managers get within 6 feet of me and tell me I had to leave if I didn’t put the mask over my nose. They followed me around the store constantly as I shopped, and they told me I can leave and shop online even though I was wearing a mask! Completely unprofessional and I felt very discriminated against. This isn’t California, this is Williamson County and our mask mandate has been lifted. I honestly think they are just looking for people to attack. If they were truly bothered with me having the mask under my nose they would not have come within 6 feet of me, 2 vs 1, telling me to pull my mask up 1mm for fear I would breath the virus out of my nose! Rei, do better! I will be spending my money elsewhere!

Terrible experience. My husband and I were shopping here to use a large gift card. I was approached by an employee to pull my mask up higher to my eyes... let me be clear, I had a mask on and it was covering my nose... but apparently that wasn’t acceptable to them. So I asked if he was serious? Thinking it was a joke. He proceeded to back away from me and call his manager on his ear piece! So I said I guess I’ll just leave. And we walked out before we were harassed by a manager. It was quite unbelievable. We will never shop there again. Also, a friend with a young child was rejected from coming in without the child wearing a mask. This is utter none sense and child abuse. At this point they are making up rules.PLUS notice the sudden 5 star reviews trying to drone out real customer complaints... it’s awfully suspicious.

Really disappointed that I drove an hour only to find such horrible selection in womens hiking shoes. I doubt its due to supply issues, since the men had about 25 different types of hiking shoes vs 12 for the women. To top if off, I had incredibly rude service from the man working the shoe section. Blondish hair with gel tips. No greeting, ignored me for quite a while and when I spoke to him just to make sure he knew I wasnt just looking, he was rude. Later was Condescending, more rude, and then mansplained to me (a full-time trip leader) the difference between waterproof and not waterproof. Ha. Gave me a hard time for asking to try on both since they were the same shoe and then brought me a larger size in the waterproof one, saying they run large. Wonderful customer service!I joined as a member waaaay back in college, and had forgotten that membership is for life. A few weeks ago, I bought some wool socks and the cashier found me in the computer pretty easily, even though it’s been YEARS since I’ve bought anything. (Because quality products last for years, right?) Then, when I had to go back and exchange the socks for a smaller size, there was no problem. I stopped at customer service first, then went back to footwear, and a very nice employee helped me figure out what I needed, even allowing me to try them on! Wish I’d done that the first visit.Other people’s recent complaints about mask requirements are ridiculous. This company is doing their best to help the community stay safe. Sanitizing and providing masks is going above and beyond! Do you think any grocery stores sanitize between every customer? And don’t forget where the first COVID case in TN was...Williamson County may have lifted the mask mandate, but private businesses have every right to require a mask for everyone’s protection. *steps down off soapbox*Anyway, great experience! Will be back, toting along my masked mom to buy her a new waterproof jacket!

REI is one of those fun places to walk around and see what they have to offer. You can find all sorts of neat gadgets.Pros: The employees are very knowledgeable, the products are high quality, REI repairs their brand products if they break from normal use, members get a dividend at the end of their reporting year.Cons: Generally expensive, thus not really a place for the casual camper/hiker/outdoorsman. Most customers are dedicated to the outdoors or are yuppies who like to wear outdoor brands for name recognition only (probably not many of the latter in reality). If I were more of an outdoorsman, this would receive 5 stars.

Well...I will never shop here again. Today, my husband and I went in to look at gloves. We were greeted with three bouncers to make sure we were “masked” to their satisfaction, and also asking if we were trying on shoes. Unsure why, but later learned that this is because there is - for some reason- the need for a lengthy and insane process to slide shoes around and avoid just handing them to people. We tried to comply with the odd, excessive, utterly unnecessary policies posted quite literally everywhere, but a female employee felt that she needed to chastise me by saying, “MA’AM, that mask needs to be ALL THE WAY over your nose.” While we respect a business’ right to make policies, being muzzled, chased around, micromanaged and harassed is unacceptable. I don’t understand how someone could support a business who implements these invasive policies.

PRICE GOUGINGMy husband and I visited the store in Brentwood twice shopping for 2 - 9.5 ft kayaks. Both visits the same kayaks we looked at were $399. Today we went back to actually purchase them. REI had increased the price to $439. Online they were still $399. The manager told me they could not do anything about it. They priced them as though they were the 11.5 ft same model kayaks. I stepped over to myself to make a phone call to check this information. When the lady on the other end could not understand me, I pulled my mask down so she could understand me. I was completely alone near no one. A worker put herself in my face and told me to put my mask on. I was pulling it up and down so the dealer could hear me. I had my back to the floor area. So, the price gouging and hysterical rude employee who put herself in my face costed REI $1000 sale and a regular customer. I will drive to Cincinnati or Chattanooga REI before I will deal with these horrible people again.———-UPDATE———-I called back to discuss the price increase at this store only. I spoke to a different manager who let me have the kayaks at the price listed on the website. I paid for them and requested curbside pickup. I was glad they did the right thing. I still will not visit their store in person anymore due to hysterical employee who harassed me over my mask (that I was wearing). After reading other reviews - sounds like a trend.

Most horrible shopping experience I have had since this pandemic started. Williamson county does NOT have a current mask mandate and I personally witnessed multiple people being harassed by employees at this store. I witnessed an employee trying to get an approximately 3-4 year old child to wear a mask before allowing them into the store. The mother was obviously frustrated but just tried to comply so she could shop. As far as I know, We NEVER had a mandate for children that young. A young daughter of a close friend was also harassed by an employee and made to pull her mask up higher even though she was wearing it. They literally have a person at the front door acting as a bouncer of sorts trying to force customers into wearing a mask, even though it is no longer required by our county. I will never shop at this location again or bring family and friends near this place. Wish I could leave a ZERO star review!!!

If you think its OK to put children in face masks, then skip this review.I understand if you disagree. This is important to me.Most retail places ask that masks are worn by adults and are ok with parents deciding if their children wear a mask.Since March 2020, Ive worked hard to make sure my daughter doesnt have to wear a mask up to and including homeschooling her instead of asking her to participate in this ritual virtue signaling.I went to REI looking to return a pair of shoes. I was denied entry and asked to put a mask on my child.I understand that this is the choice of private business. But its my choice to speak out against this level of tyranny.People are not asymptomatic, theyre healthy. If a healthy human being is out walking around, they shouldnt have to wear a piece of fabric on their face to signal how good they are and appease the germaphobes. Its enough that I have to participate in this facade to buy a pair of shoes, Im not putting my kid through it just because REI wants to be EXTRA compliant.I understand that most people wont get it. Thats fine. But for those of you who do understand what Im saying... Im going to be taking my business somewhere that still cares about logic and prefers not to live in fascist state.Update: it took over 6 months to complete my return properly through the mail. They’re still virtue signaling fascists with policy over logic approach.REI sucks. I’ve found much better high quality equipment elsewhere with people who aren’t ridiculous about Covid safety policy.
