Melissa, the front desk associate has no concept of customer service. We brought our daughter here for the first time a day ago. I emailed them Thursday, records and X-rays from We Make Kids Smile (BEST PEDIATRIC DENTIST). At that time, I also asked to be sent a pretreatment payment so I would be aware of the cost.Upon arrival, on Monday they couldn’t find the email, until my spouse sent it over. Then they discovered mine. I was under the impression my daughter was seeing Dr. Thrower as she’s the only dentist listed under her practice via Cigna app. However, we were seen by someone else, who is OUT OF NETWORK! Which was communicated to the insurance and not my spouse. The cost Melissa quoted seemed outrageous. So, we asked for a treatment plan to be emailed which wasn’t until the insurance company called. Additionally, Melissa gave the insurance company misinformation because she didn’t review my daughters chart prior to releasing her information.I asked to speak with the owner…I am still waiting!

They always do a nice job with my kids and always make sure my kids are comfortable and safe while being worked on. They accept most insurance. I have amerigroup and now i have carefirst so that is very helpful. My kids love it here and they are also open on Saturday’s. If you do come on a Saturday just know that is when they are super busy and have a-lot of clients because everyone makes appointments for that day. But even though busy they always try there best to keep up with the set appointments.

My son’s cap came off his top tooth for the second time from no fault of his own. I called to schedule an appointment so he can be seen because this same tooth lost its cap in September. Trying to call is always a task because half the time there’s no answer, and their online appointment setup is even worse. Finally got through and the earliest he could be seen was in a week, that’s fine no problem. I explained to whomever answered the phone that he was there in September for the same problem and it’s the same tooth. We get to his appointment and the doctor comes in and she said they would have to see if our insurance would cover it again even though it’s “MEDICALLY NECESSARY”. Hmm...but okay. I don’t understand why that wasn’t disclosed prior to his appointment!! So she leaves and the dental asst. comes in and starts to prep my son. She stated “I’m just gonna get him prepped” and then she steps out to talk to someone only to come back and say we’re going to have to come back on the next available day which happens to be at the end of November. A complete waste of my time when the procedure could’ve been handled right then and there. But the real issue is if you have Medicaid they dgaf about you.

Dr. Throwers office came highly recommended and I was excited for my son to see her but that quickly went away. My appt was for 2pm we followed the directions to call and check in but after calling for 10mins no one answers the phone. We get to the office door and it’s line of people who are waiting for their 2pm too and no one was answering the office phone. 2:15pm someone comes and takes a family in and we continue to wait until 2:40 when I have to bang on the door and tell them we are leaving. All of sudden we can be seen and from that point everything was horrible the only ppl who had good customer service was the dental assistant. The examine was rushed and then I was handed paper work to fill out and said oh let’s make an appt for 6 months. I’m not sure if we will be returning because this was a horrible experience for my sons very first dental appt. I didn’t feel like enough care was taken nor enough engagement with my son. I hope 6 months is enough time for this practice to get things together

Excellent Customer Service for our Sons Visit During this Pandemic - I was a bit apprehensive at the thought of bringing my son in for assessment of his teeth due to the coronavirus …. However upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised at the protocol (coordination, temp checks, verification check-in on number of patients in the office, etc) upon entrance into the main lobby that was put in place to ensure the care and safety of all patients. Once we received the green light to go up to the office, we were greeted by the front desk staff. I then observed the way the staff, assistants, doctors triaged all patients in and out with care. Shortly thereafter, we were called to the back to be seen and the doctor and assistants were phenomenal! I was there for my son and they observed that I also had my daughter (in her stroller) and offered ways to keep us all comfortable as our son was being seen keeping everyone safe. Their bedside manners, efficiency and effectiveness in assessing our sons teeth to include the recommendations provided were top notch to say the least. And while the recommendations themselves were to be expected, it was the way the staff made me/us feel during this appt that I had to write about. Apprehension of patients at dentists is pretty normally and truly during this pandemic heightens how we feel overall and I wanted to ensure I wrote my first google review for Bright Starr Pediatric Dentistry for keeping this all in mind when seeing all patients. Amazing Job Staff - We Truly Appreciate You!!!

Terrible customer service with the front office staff! They mishandled several claims and have been rude in the process of trying to resolve them. While in person I notified them of my change in insurance but apparently my records were never updated because I received a call (April 15th) letting me know the claims were rejected. I provided the information again but on May 3rd I received another call and was told that the person in the office handling claims was no longer an employee there and apologetically she asked for my information yet again. I never received another call since yet I received invoices indicating a had a past due balance. I called today and was rudely told that they tried to contact me several times but my phone tracks all missed, outgoing and incoming calls from a specific number and thats how I remember the 2 dates Im listing here and have no other calls from them. I called Delta Dental myself and they called Bright Starr to fix the issue for me. Apparently Bright Starr was sending the claims electronically to the wrong department. I called them back to ask why they never called Delta Dental and they said they dont do that but other providers clearly do since the automated system for Delta Dental first asks if you are a provider or a subscriber. The office manager at Bright Starr still rudely claimed that they called me several times which is not true at all. Needless to say Ill be looking for a different pediatric dentist office for my kids as there are several out there who Im sure can provide better service. Its too bad because our experience with the dentist and back office staff has always been great and thats what kept me there but there have been too many negative experiences with the front office. Theres been a lot of turnover and I kept thinking it would get better but for some reason theyve all been rude in one way or another.

My son arrived early for his appointment. A week prior to his appointment, I called the office to see what the fee would be for a self pay patient. I was quoted a price and agreed to it. After his procedure, I was told the price would be twice the amount I was initially quoted because two teeth were filled instead of one. In trying to clear up the matter as to why I was not told the price had changed before the procedure was done, Jessica was EXTREMELY rude and blamed me and his orthodontist for the confusion. I was able to speak with someone else who reduced the bill by 15% and Dr. Thrower did call me back later to apologize for the miscommunication. She is a good dentist and my son loves her but her front staff should be replaced.

Im surprised that there are multiple negative reviews about the receptionist, but the doctor has done nothing to let her go.I scheduled an appointment for my three year old for Tuesday, 12:20PM. On arrival, me and my wife were greeted with the receptionist yelling at us You were supposed to come yesterday. When I told her that we were specifically told 12:20PM on Tuesday, she said that she has us in the system for 9AM Wednesday (WHAT???) and that she has no idea who I talked to on the phone.A few minutes later the doctor arrives and tries to rectify the situation. She asked the receptionist Are they existing patients or new. The receptionist rolled her eyes in a very rude manner, acknowledged that we were new patients, and pretended like she would try to fit us in. She called us back to the front desk a few minutes later and said that there was nothing she could do. By this time I had spent some time reading all the negative reviews about her. I told her how I had taken off from work on a Tuesday to be there. She made no effort to take any responsibility of the error and continued to say I did not schedule you for today. Apparently the customer is not always right. Also, there is a big sign outside the building that says Walk-ins welcome. Yeah not really. For now it seems like scheduled appointments are not welcomed either. One word to sum up our experience with the receptionist: Rude.To the doctor: Judging by the reviews, it seems like you are a great doctor. Please acknowledge that your receptionist is hurting your practice. The first impression is the last and unfortunately we wont be returning. Following are all the other reviews about your receptionist. Bumping them up.Unfortunately, her staff is incompetent. On too many occasions, after I had taken the day off from work, I would get to her office and the girl at the front would tell me that my daughter could not be seen.the staff were extremely rude to us and rushed us out of the building. Especially the woman running the front counter. To add injury to insult, instead of apologizing and acknowledging how I felt, I was told by the receptionist to never return.Very rude receptionist...They cancelled my appointment and when I called to reschedule, I was told well you know school is about to start. I rescheduled the appointment for the following month and when I asked whether any concessions would be made if our appointment was canceled again the receptionist asked me if concessions were made when you go to the grocery store and they are out of something? The things she was saying didnt even make sense. When I finally said to just cancel the appointment and that theyd lost me as a client, she said GOOD!

I have been going to this practice for about 3 years or so now. Dr. Starr/Thrower is awesome and very personable. My children love going to the dentist because of her. However, because of the experiences with the receptionist I am now looking for another practice. The receptionist is very rude and apparently enjoys chastising the parents in front of their children. Truly outside the building they have a sign that says walk-ins are welcomed but when you are a few minutes late, she cancels your appointment and tells you your business is not more important than her other clients.I have tried to overlook the receptionist behavior in the past because I so much enjoy Dr. Starr/Thrower and the other staff that work in the back office, but after this last experience I doubt I will be taking my children back there. I got berated by the receptionist, two of of my 4 children appoints cancelled and the two that got seen did not even see Dr. Starr/Thrower nor receive their little care packages. The place was so packed, people were sitting (literally) on top of each other. It appeared they tripled booked all the appointments and unfortunately everybody showed up and the result was pure chaos.

Dr. Thrower is great as a doctor, but she has to urgently fire her front office staff. When I came in for an appointment for my daughter, they checked my insurance and gave me a paper that said I was going to owe $190 for the treatment. Then they send me a $400 bill in the mail after I paid them the $190! If I knew they were going to charge so much, I would have never gone to them in the first place!!!!!! I attempted to speak with their office manager. She was extremely rude and basically laughed at me, said oh, we dont actually check the insurance. Great! On too many occasions, after I had taken the day off from work, I would get to her office and the girl at the front would tell me that my daughter could not be seen. Once because no one informed that my daughter could not eat before oral sedation, another time because the schedule was overbooked and the last time because whomever scheduled my appointment did not put that my daughter needed oral sedation and they only do that on Tuesdays and Fridays. Their excuse was that there was a new person doing the scheduling...IF YOU HIRE SOMEONE NEW TO HANDLE YOUR BOOKS.....T E A C H ..T H E M. There is no reason for these stupid mistakes. On top of that..I had to go the pharmacy to pick up the sedation medication and they would not give it back. I understand that it is a controlled substance etc. However, that was just an insult. Afterwards, the receptionist could not seem to spell and/or hear the spelling of my daughters name. Apparently frustrated, she put me on another hold. Once off hold, another person asked me for my daughters information to which I noted, I didn’t understand why this was so hard and taking so long, and she responded, “Because we’re busy that’s why? He unquestionably was not the easiest patient for Dr. Staff and yet, she was so patient and kind to him. Not once did she display any levels of frustration with my son and although he cried through quite a bit of his visit, it was due to him not wanting anyone messing with his mouth (same thing I go through at home) and not due to the gentle touch of Dr. Staff. After following HER instructions it did not work properly. I asked if there was anywhere to dump it. She didn’t respond and passed it over to her colleague (another receptionist I believe) as if she didn’t want to be bothered. I then explained to the nicer of the two that I did what was told. The very rude receptionist says to me “You don’t know to put the coffee pod in”. I CLEARLY asked her if I needed to put the pod in or if the pod was already in the machine (because this was my first time making coffee in their office and had no idea where the pods were stored as they were not out for me to see). I would advise the doctor to REALLY consider who’s representing her company. Her receptionist speaking to clients in a condescending manner will cause them to take their business elsewhere. In addition, we were not advised to have my daughter empty her bladder just before her procedure. She in turn had an accident (she informed them that she had to go but they proceeded to work on her). She was told before her procedure that she would receive her prize token but she never did. I will assume that the doctor was just busy and that it wasn’t done intentionally. Unfortunately we will not return and she will have the rest of her work done elsewhere.

Ive been at this location numerous times with Dr. Starr and other colleagues and everyone has been wonderful with my kids. However, I had the worst experience in the office recently. The Dentist that was available, was unprofessional and did not catered to my kids. She added fluoride all over their mouth and made them look so messy. To add injury to insult, instead of apologizing and acknowledging how I felt, I was told by the receptionist to never return. Really? I had no intentions of returning after being treated by an unprofessional dentist. Stay away from this location unless its Dr. Starr treating your kids.

From day one, Dr. Starr was the best thing for my Little Miss. All the apprehension and nervousness went away from my little one. I wish many years ago I had a pediatric dentist like her! Customer service is excellent from the front door receptionist to the dental assistant to Dr. Starr herself. Its the best atmosphere for any child to be in when they have to go to the dentist.

Took both of my children to see her. At first everything seemed perfect. Clean environment, friendly staff, etc. She told me that both of my kids mouths had several cavities (I am aware that is my fault) and she wanted to do an outpatient procedure to take care of all of them at once. I was thrilled and ready to get their teeth fixed. Several days before the procedure I received 3 different calls from staff getting information for the visit. An hour before we were supposed to leave they called asking if we could come in early and said that they had been trying to reach us for days needing us there earlier than planned. Didnt receive any calls about that only the 3 asking for the information and they didnt mention it then. We got there and she took myself and my daughter back to get her prepped. She kept repeating herself saying that if she had to remove teeth while she was in there that she couldnt ask my permission and would have to just do it. I told her that was understandable since she said that they only had cavities. After she finished with my daughter she came out to tell me that she HAD to remove all 4 of her front teeth. She didnt say anything about her front teeth even having issues when we discussed her mouth. My daughter was 4 at the time, thats a really long time to go without her front teeth. Completely devastated for my daughter, I asked her what we could do to make it easier on her until her adult teeth came in. She said that we could look into Pedi-partials but she would have to discuss it with us at her office. She took my son back, said all the same things that she said to me about my daughter EXCEPT that she wouldnt be able to talk to me if she needed to remove teeth. I found it strange that it wasnt necessary to mention that before taking him back but she said it at least 4 times before taking my daughter back. Anyways, fast forward two weeks after the procedure we take them back for a check up and she tells me that they can do partial for her and gives me a price. She said that she wasnt going to run it through our insurance because most of the time they dont pay for it. She was ready to put everything into motion until we asked her to go ahead and run it through just in case they do approve it to save us some money since our daughters birthday was coming up. After that her and the staff were extremely rude to us and rushed us out of the building. Especially the woman running the front counter. Since then we have only received 1 email stating that the insurance had denied it. That was 4 months ago. We have tried multiple times to reach them and have left several messages with no response. My daughter has already starting complaining about the teeth she fixed hurting her and half of the cap on my sons front tooth has fallen off exposing rot behind it. (In case you are wondering yes they have been properly taking care of their teeth since the procedure.) I have appointments for both of my children to be seen by another dentist for a second opinion. I would not recommend this dentist to anyone, even if it was a last resort. I fully believe she removed my daughters front teeth only to get money from us. If not, then she either missed a really serious problem with her front teeth the first time we talked about her mouth or was deceiving me and knew they would have to be removed. Whatever the reason is the lack of communication, actually, the entire situation is unacceptable. Please consider taking your children somewhere else. Its not worth even a small chance that this wont happen to your children too.

While I enjoyed taking my child to this dentist office, it is absolutely ridiculous to charge a $60 fee to cancel an Monday appointment on a Friday. Especially when this office offers Saturday hours. Therefore it is still a 48 hour notification. I will take my business elsewhere.

My 2yr old daughter had to be seen by a pediatric dentist as soon as possible which is why we went all the way to bright starr in Bowie, MD. Her tooth had abscesses and swelled on the right side of her lower jaw. They did a visual exam and determined she needed it pulled (no brainer). Well they gave me a copay fee of $100 and said thats a low ball fee and that it could be more, all for a visual exam!! No X-rays, no teeth cleaning, nothing. Just simply looking at the tooth that abscessed. Now I wake up to a bill in the mail from this company for $450. The day before my daughters scheduled appointment I had to call in and let them know she had bronchitis and was in the hospital (they had already told me I needed to call in and let them know if she is sick because theyll need to reschedule her and if I dont call in and let them know Ill have to face a $200 cancellation fee. So it cant be part of that $450. Not to mention they accept my insurance! They overcharged and lied on my bill. Ill be seeing bright starr in court if my insurance company cant handle this.
