Hoosier Heights Bloomington is Awesome! The staff are professional, helpful, and supportive of climbers of all levels of experience and the facility is amazing! Not only does it have an awesome roped climbing building where you can top-rope, auto-belay, and lead climb, but it has a separate chapel with a huge indoor boulder and training rooms, weight rooms and lounge in the basement, and a huge yoga space in the original chapel.

Friendly community, much more than just a gym/exercise facility. Always clean, good variety of routes and boulder problems. The boulder room is in the sanctuary (building used to be a church) and is absolutely beautiful.

It is one of the coolest setups Ive ever seen for a climbing gym. Separate bouldering, roped climbing, and yoga all in a B-town historical building. Routes are great, updated frequently, clean holds. Little pricey for a day pass ($25 is what youd pay in San Francisco), but worth it.

I think its a fun activity and the fact is ---there is not much to do in B-town. So this is just perfect. It does get a bit too hot in the summer, so I wish for a better AC but its a great workout. I love being a member---free yoga once a week is a nice perk.Overall, one happy climber.:)

Do some research into this climbing gym, until things change, until a light is shined onto some past experiences and continuous neglect and mistreatments of both employees and the community as a whole, I advise against this membership. Check Facebook tags for more

Lack of competition means Hoosier Heights Bloomington has little reason to prioritize the member experience and the business continues to make decisions that clearly communicates profit is more important than fostering a climbing community. The desk / climbing staff are wonderful, the setting is good, however, the management-level decisions make me wish I had another gym option in town. The Bloomington climbing community is massively friendly, welcoming, and stoked on climbing. On any given weekend at the Red youll see familiar faces from the gym. Hoosier Heights Bloomington has provided a space for this community to hangout, climb, train, and make friends, however, the gym itself is just a location, Hoosier Heights doesnt feelcommitted to strengthening the climbing community or invested in their members. One example... Hoosier Heights recently announced a number of membership price increases:- Monthly Auto-pay memberships increased from $59.00 to $64.00- Month-to-Month memberships increased from $74.00 to $89.00- Single membership start up fees have increased from $25 to $35- Family membership start up fees have increased from $50 to $65Along with the pricing changes the following changes are coming into affect as well:- Free friend friday (Members can bring a friend, for free, on that last friday of the month) will soon no longer be available. Members now get 5 free guest passes PER YEAR. (This info per a call to the desk staff at the gym)- Expanded hours - Open early a number of days a week. I am unsure on details.- Free first visit for a friend of member - Previously members could bring a friend (whos never been to Hoosier Heights before)for free. The Hoosier Heights site now indicates Additionally, members when climbing with first time friends are eligible to purchase a discounted day pass for their friend! I am unsure on the details of this change.Personally the price increases feel like a money grab. There are no notable improvements to the space or facility, no announcement of better wages for the staff, and no extended amenities. $89 is frankly ridiculous for a medium sized city in Indiana and prices out many IU students and community members who dont have much disposable income.Pros- Many free fitness and yoga classes. IF you are a user of this perk than the membership fee becomes more palatable when considering the cost of classes individually- Reciprocal memberships with Hoosier Heights Indy and Climb Nulu- Repurposed church is a really cool space to hangout / climb in- Community events are held occasionally (with food and drink) and are fun. One example was a fun costume-climbing night around Halloween- Louie, the cute gym cat that hangs around- Provides a physical space for the Bloomington climbing communityCons- No shower facilities- Very small gym / lifting area. Consists of a single squat rack (1 barbell), two benches, a rack of dumbbells (up to about 50lbs),and a set of kettlebells. The space is suitable for 2 or 3 people at a time (depending on what exercises they are doing), but no more.- High price, particulary for month-to-month memberships- Minimal perks / benefits related to introducing friends and family to climbing, or bringing a friend who likes to climb, but cannot afford a membership

Been climbing at HH for years. The most comfortable and welcoming atmosphere of any gym Ive been to. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, they all show a passion and love for climbing. Its a great place for ever level of experience.Great place for a weekend fun, or you can get your kids involved in the climbing clubs competitions or trips. The only cons are probable the heating cooling, it can get pretty bad. And could use a little more cleaning here and there, but it adds to the vibe... if youre into that sort of thing.

I just renewed my membership and Im super hyped to start climbing regularly again. I went to 3 different places while I was living in Orlando this past semester...none of those came close to Hoosier Heights. I climb on my own for my daily workout so top-roping isnt an option and Id rather eat my knee caps than boulder..so im pumped that that you have multiple walls with auto belays. They change it up and add new routes pretty frequently..and the crazier the route name, the better. Im pretty sure my kid brother only visits me in B-town because he knows Ill take him climbing. I took advantage of the bring-a-buddy promotion they had a while back and my roommate and I had a blast. I purchased all my climbing gear at Hoosier Heights..so they have everything you need to go from absolute beginner to climbing enthusiast. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and always keep the gym safe and looking fresh. The atmosphere is chill. The pandora station is fire. I have nothing but great things to say.

Yesterday was the second time ever taking my son Matthew and some of his friends (16 &15yr olds), once again they had an absolute blast! Not only do they learn planning and patience, this place also unknowingly teaches them trust, humility, and social interaction with every generation/type of person in a safe and supportive environment!!! Excellent staff, very laid-back, but with a sharp eye for safety!Everyone should try this at least once! I was living vicariously through Matthew the whole time from a distance due to all my old injuries from car accidents, fibromyalgia, and recent surgeries on my arm/hand. Man, I wish I was able to climb right beside him!

This is my favorite place in Bloomington. With the friendly workers and the great route setting, this gym provides a great community to get to know other climbers. It may not be the biggest climbing gym ever, but it is for sure cozy. In addition to being a great place for returning climbers, Hoosier Heights Bloomington provides a great first-time experience for people who want to try climbing out. 6/5 stars from me.

Not a good gym to stop at on a road trip:So this is a little petty, but i stopped by this gym while on a road trip and they wanted me to pay full first timer price. Thats 140% of the day pass price, even though i had all my own gear, have hundreds of hours of climbing experience, and was only going to auto belay. It is a little frustrating to me because most gyms ive been to only charge that price to first time climbers as a deal to get them climbing without having to break the bank with renting all the equipment. Its for people who need basic rope training and gear.i.e. not me, or so has been my general experience in the South-East USA.I dont know if this is a fair assessment, but this gym really felt like they cared more about money than building relationships in the climbing community.I hope im wrong, but i will look for other places to climb when driving through Indy.It looked cool though, so thats an extra star.

Superb. This was my first climbing gym, and honestly I thought all climbing gyms were like this BOY was a wrong! Top rope room is huge and way more exciting than bouldering imo, auto-bulaze(?) and partner climbing available. PLUS ROUTES RESET ALL THE TIME. Gotta climb everything while its there!! but if you cant wait a month and theyll be things you might be able to climb and explore more. Members get free shoe rentals on Tuesday Thursday, I think the visitors get free shoe day on Tuesday?? not sure but hey lots of cool stuff! Membership here is costly but covers other gyms (even one in Kentucky) so go ask around!

Way over priced 25 dollars for yeah smallest selection of bouldering/ top rope Ive ever seen. Staff was rude. Started to bleed while I was climbing, asked atafs for a band aid or gaus. Was told that they didnt have any first aid equipment, and that they werent allowed to give any first aid, and that I shouldnt climb anymore. Then staff member turned their back on me and started to discuss her weekend plans.
