Awful experience- would give 0 stars if possible. The counselor I saw liked talking more about himself and his experiences than engaging with myself. I attended 1 session feeling worse when i left then when i entered. The counselor told me I did not need to come back, and seemed to rush me out of the office. I would NOT recommend to anyone- use your own insurance if possible to see a private provider.

Several months ago I was going through a rough patch in my life and I decided to seek counseling to help me cope. I had the good fortune of being assigned Shawn Meier as my counselor. Ms. Meier helped me to see my problems in a different light and it is no exaggeration to say that she probably saved my life. Ms. Meiers counseling skills and professionalism are unsurpassed. In addition, she is a very kind human being. Thank you, Ms. Meier, for all you do. Please know that you are making a difference in peoples lives.

The two negative reviews are not fair and say a lot about the people who posted them. I was at the presentation a year ago, it was fun and was an informal educational presentation on signs and symptoms of using drugs or alcohol in the workplace, asking her about trauma was not the time or place to do it. As far as her using stories and being judgmental makes no sense so it’s made up. Shawn Meier is my daughter’s counselor and I am very thankful for Shawn. I also have a friend who saw another counselor at CHI and she had a great experience there too. We both refer everyone we know there. People who read reviews should not take one or two person’s hurtful comments to heart. Posting hate on the internet based on a one hour preconceived notion to blast someone and having no clue as to the purpose of the information should not be allowed.

EAP staff make the counseling experience very comfortable and I would encourage anyone who is wanting help to go. I did EMDR therapy and my counselor taught me more than I thought was possible.

I just listened to a presentation by Shawn Meier, a counselor from CHI, on substance abuse. Based on the presentation, I would never send anyone to this facility. This presenter was extremely judgmental with terrible anecdotal stories. She displayed zero knowledge on being trauma informed and when asked specific questions on being trauma informed her answer completely missed the mark. She appeared to have no clue on what being trauma informed entails.

Shawn Meier presented at our staff and faculty In-Service at Sitting Bull College on the Standing Rock Reservation. Despite this fact, her presentation on substance abuse was not conductive on our reservation needs. Shawn seemed to have a difficult time separating her personal opinion on substance abuse with her actual role in CHI St. Alexis. She was asked if CHI St. Alexis is a trauma informed facility and failed to acknowledge whether or not she is either ill informed or knowledgeable. She was very whiny about the topic and situation itself and seemed unable to see she was presenting to a large room predominantly populated Native American. With our course in history, we natives now suffer ongoing traumas within our homes. Shawn neglected to use any information geared toward actual solutions in depleting addiction and instead applied her own opinion to her presentation’s entirety on each substance further using her own clients as the butt of her jokes. I would not recommend Shawn as a presenter, nor the CHI St. Alexis Employee Assistance Program if all presenters apply the same ill mannered behavior.
