I just want comment on my last visit to U.A.B. Highlands. Im restricted to a walker and cant go very far without it. I asked for a escort to get me to my appointment. A young man from transportation came with a wheelchair. I will call his name because he went the extra mile to help me. Not only was he polite and curtious, he stayed at my side my whole visit because I had no one to push me to the rest room. His name is Carlos Binder. U A.B. can be proud to know that they have a dedicated employee like that. GOD BLESS YOU CARLOS 🙏 I hope you go far with U.A B.

I had an appointment today 6/24/21, started off good however that quickly changed. The young lady at the boots took my temp and asked where was my appointment. After which I asked for a wheelchair, instead of sending me to the front desk. She informed that she could request escort there on her portable computer. Then I was told to sat in the lobby and somebody would come and take to sports medicine. After waiting in the lobby for 45 minute or more, the young lady rolled up assisted to get in the wheelchair. I was amazed that she had a personal call on her cell the entire time. She never stop talking once to acknowledged me the patient. Very rude and inconsiderate. Dr McCollugh and his staff were very professional and accommodating.

The ER and ICU staff are amazing!! I went to the ER around midnight on a Monday. I was having difficulty breathing. I was in an exam room in no time with a team of folks working to help me. I later woke up in the ICU. The doctors, nurses, technicians, and everyone else done everything possible to keep me comfortable and informed. They took the time to answer all my daughters questions as well. She lives out of state, but was still able to call the staff daily for updates. Once I was moved to a regular room, the staff rotated more often, so it was hard to get to know them like I did in the ICU. They all did a great job and the physical therapist was exceptional.

They transported us to their highland location after waiting 5 HOURS in the hallway on a bed just to transfer us to a different location 🤦🏾‍♀️.. weve been here at Highland for 3 days now; our heat went out in the room now its 68 degrees, Ive ordered breakfast 30 minutes ago by the way is a clear liquid diet and my boyfriend still havent eaten!!! I had hip replacement surgery. Surgery was a success. My lower rating has nothing to do with the surgery itself but the aftermath. The nurses were great. Dr. Naranje did a great job. My problem lies with the social worker. Im not going to name the person but her conduct was shameful. She didnt want to give up the in home walker or the bed side commode. She told me that I had to pay for them. My wife called our health care provider and explained the problem. He then placed a call to her. Her staff wouldnt put the call through. He told us he had to call her 5 or 6 additional times before he could talk with her. Even though those 2 devices were covered, she was still hesitant. Only after threatening to go above her head did she comply. If this is what UAB calls health care, well look elsewhere. My wife and I are changing primary care physicians. But thats another matter.

Alyssa Chapman Rice has the WORST bedside manner and will over talk you when you are trying to explain what the issues are. I don’t want to hear nothing about it’s because she’s pregnant that has nothing to do with her patients healthcare. The very first time we saw her she spent all of 6 minutes in the room referred us to physical therapy and told us what apparatus to purchase for the diagnosis of “tennis elbow”. So many nurse practitioners are quick to dismiss how the patient is feeling and not taking the time to listen. That was the LAST time she will see us. And I’m making sure that I let our primary care Neurosurgeon know that we will NOT be going back to her. I don’t know what is going on with this younger generation of health care providers but they better understand that the patients do pay attention to what type of care they receive and will let other’s know.

*Review for Business Manager of the Geriatric Clinic*This business manager called the police on me for sitting in the waiting room. What was I doing? WAITING for a family member to finish seeing the doctor. At no point did any staff ask me if I was with someone. Instead, they called the police, embarrassed me, and then offered no apology. Ive sat in that room 10 times in the past four months and have never seen an officer do a walk through or have had the police called on me. I hope there was no bias behind the call--there definitely wasnt any any professionalism.

After I was admitted to the CCU on May 22, I was transferred to UAB Highlands when the doctors felt I was able to go to a regular room. Upon arriving in the room, I was greeted by LaTonya with a bag of ice water. ( I have never had that happen before, I thought water was supposed to come either in a cup or a bottle.) She asked me if I new what I wanted to eat? I replied that I needed a diabetic menu. She in-turn said that she would bring one back to me. Vital signs were taken by Angelique, and when I asked her about the menu since it had been over an hour since LaTonya had left, and not returned with the menu; I asked her if she could bring me one. Angeliques response was, I dont know what that is, I have never heard of that. (that was the second sign that things were about to go wrong, the bag of water was the first.) I explained to her that it was a menu to watch carbs. She said that she would look for one that she can print out. When Antwenette came in to draw blood, I told her that she would have to render it from my IV because I was dehydrated and this is how they have been drawing it over the weekend. Her response was, so you are saying no? Then Jessie comes in and says, we dont do that here. All my pcts do is stick, and I could loose my job, so, you have to let her stick you. I ask again, can you not get it from the IV? Jessie replied no. Someone came in and turned the volume down on my pump and said I can hear that all the way to the nurses station, so I am gonna put it on low so only you can hear it. But the worst nurse of them all was Carol. After finally giving my antibiotics, I waited an hour and a half for her to unhook the IV, I asked her dont you need to flush the IV line? her response was, nah, you will be alright. And walked out of the room. They say if you need anything, just let us know, but when you press the call button, the lady on the other end acts if though she cant hear you. My legs were very unsteady, and I needed assistance going to the restroom that I never got from any of the staff. Carol placed a fall risk on my arm when the physical therapist came in to the room. And when it was time for me to be discharged, even though I did not think I was ready because I still had headaches, dizziness, numbness of the feet and legs, Carol said, well I dont have nothing to do with that. And proceeded to take out my IV, I jumped because my skin was tender and she was very rough, she then asked my If I wanted to take out my own IV? There is so much more I can say about the horrible experience I had at the Highlands, but; I wont. I will say this, if you have to go to UAB Highlands for healthcare, I suggest you go home and self medicate, or find another hospital altogether, because I had a dreadful experience with this staff. Plus, I never saw a doctor there either, and I asked about getting prescriptions filled, and Carol said get them filled at your pharmacy. Thank God for Ms. Camellia, she made everything Okay. She helped me get the medicinces I needed, and gave me contact information for assistance also. Thank you again Ms. Camellia.

Waited over 4 hours in the emergency room while my husband was bleeding. The entire waiting room was filled up with only 2 or 3 seats left out of the whole room. Everyone arrived after my husband, but he was the last one called. I understand ppl in more critical care should be seen more immediately, but considering hes been bleeding, a wait that long is ridiculous especially when others arrive after him and leave before he is even called back. We will never come here for care again and we will never suggest anyone ever come here either.

My husband had an appointment this week. We were asked to arrive 40 minutes early to fill out new patient paperwork. We waited almost 4 hours total for the orthopedic doctor to walk in and spend literally 3 minutes with us and then set a surgery date without explaining what my husband needed done or asking if we wanted him to do the surgery. It looks like from reading other reviews that wait times are a big problem. This orthopedic doctor may be a great physician but he has a pitiful bedside manner and zero compassion. I just cannot imagine a patient with a post op appointment from a knee or hip replacement, waiting in those waiting room chairs for 4 hours waiting to see the doctor.

In the Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities they provide you during your visit #4 states To receive care in a safe environment free from all forms of abuse, neglect and harassment. The key word here is neglect. Without going into medical details, I was in so much in the emergency room, I had collapsed on the floor. For 15 minutes, I laid on the dirty emergency room floor without even an inquiry from the front desk nurse and staff that walked over me. No one even offered a blanket to lay on. After 15 minutes, fortunately after some of the pain resided, a security person demanded I get up off the floor. Which I did, This was within the first hour and half of my visit. I eventually stayed there an additional 8 hours. Fortunately, my ailment was not life-threatening, but there was no way of knowing, in my 52 years of life I had never had such a frightening experience. It was neglect. One additional note. I reported this to the patient advocate the following day. He was kind and compassionate. He also said that he would report the incident and they would get back to me in a couple of days. It has been 9 days. I do not recommend UAB Highlands Emergency for anyone. They neglect their patients.

He came in with a broken hip on sunday night and waited until late Tuesday evening to finally have surgery all the time with him being in extreme pain. Apparently this is a normal experience at the hospital because I even spoke with another doctor at the hospital unrelated to my fathers situation, and said he had experienced a similar situation with his own sons recent surgery. We even notified the patient advocate. The only answer we would ever get is they have passed the message along. And I had nausea I was throwing up really bad. They booted me out of my room after my first nurse told me I could stay until my ride came. I came to the in an ambulance. Shift change came and this white male nurse came I telling me i had to leave. He didnt introduce himself by , and he didnt introduce himself as my nurse. He tried to make BS small to make it not be awkward for him;he did this as he straightened the room around mr.Then he was like ok, you ready Lets go. I said, I have to put my clothes back on. He didnt offer to help, nor did he put me in a wheelchair and escort me to the lobby. He left. It took me 10 minutes to put my clothes back on, because my pain was starting to come back full force..While I was there they gave me morphine twice, but i dont think it was enough of an amount because I always still felt the pain(uterus/bladder, sides, belly and lower to middle back. I still had pain chills/shakes. I hobbled to the bathroom across the hall past the nurses desk stooped over because of my back pain. .I finally make it out the bathroom. Im looking for an exit and someone to complain to. One man showed me the exit and i asked him who to complain to. He was no help so I go to the lobby and wait for the ER manager to come. The first person who approached me was none other than the male who booted me out of the room. I told him I didnt ask to speak to him; I asked for the manager. I felt like that was supposed to be some form of intimidation. I was sitting down while he and, the female mgr. stood over me talking down to me. She told me we had someone in a more critical condition than you and since youre stable you had to get out and they werent even supposed to give you medicine until they knew you had a ride present Thats not my fault. Thats the staffs fault. I dont think they would have booted a white woman out like that or at least would have escorted her in a wheelchair to the lobby/ helped her get dressed or made sure she didnt fall.I hate this place. Stay away from the emergency room! They are the most inconsiderate, uncompassionate, individuals that I have ever met, the girl on the patient care team immediately popped an attitude as soon as we walked in her name is Monica Hubbard, the room was cram packed and she let everyone know that she had a good memory, and there was no need for us to sign in, and for me to have a seat, oh wait theres three of us and only two chairs, theres room for more but that would make too much sense. And while we were sitting there she told two of her coworkers, she asked two times. Look I get it, nobody is as intelligent as the staff, and the patient is supposed to just know the procedures, but really do you have to treat your patients like the dirt on the bottom of your shoes? And afterwards is it so difficult to number one be nice, and number two to apologize for your mistake. I think that it is a safe assumption to say that nobody goes to the ER just to have something to do, and I can guarantee you that I have better things to do I really like the hospital, but the customer service is awful. I wouldnt bring a stray dog to the ER. In my opinion this location seriously needs to screen the personnel that is the first face and gives the first impression of the facility, if they fail put them in janitorial or in an area where they will not be in the eyes of the public.

Orthopedic Specialists saved my leg, knee years ago, and I have since been in a head on collision , and electricuted by an Alabama Powerline. I now fall quite often and have injured my hip, knee and leg, and shoulder . Once again they are coming to my rescue! Thank you everyone!

Pertains to CAFETERIA ONLY. Asked for a single piece of chicken, got to register and was charged $5.15, over $8 with tea. Entire chicken plate was less, but lady dishing it up said nothing. Wasnt going to wait in line again, so I paid it. Sitting here too mad to even eat it.
