I got the vaccine against better judgement. I was under the impression I could stop wearing a mask. The mask makes me claustrophobic. Now I need lab work outside the VA because of the mask. I cant even get an eye exam without a mask. I have no faith or even hope left. Most other places let you wear a mask or not and its ok. What happened to freedom? Besides the care is mediocre at best. Thats what I fought for?

Absolutely a joke! Took the rapid Covid test, was told that I’d get the results within 2 hours. Nope, after getting the run around and placed on hold indefinitely. I finally got someone helpful, only to be transferred to another person with an attitude that told me that the primary care physician would let me know on MONDAY, when I questioned if there was another doctor working, she hung up on me.I wish I knew the woman’s name…I personally work in the healthcare industry and the way she conducted herself was uncalled for! Especially for our vets!!! Pathetic!!!

Just back from appt at the Biloxi VA Hospital. Had an appt for minor outpatient surgery to remove what was thought to be a minor boil on my back. Turned out to be a benign but large & deeply rooted cyst. My intern doc and her supervisor opened up the area and fought the obstinate cyst to complete removal. Well done and thanks to the Biloxi VA staff for another superb performance!

My father is 88. His recent stay at VA Hospital in Biloxi was a blessing! The ER staff was prompt to treat him and their thorough evaluation led to him being admitted. The staff on the PCU floor kept us well informed by phone during Corona as we could not visit him. Nurse Charlie even allowed my dad to use his personal cell phone to call us. He was discharged with tons of home health and follow-up appointments with our local VA. We thank you thank you thank you for giving my dad awesome care.

Took over a year to get an eye exam out in town, when I did, I learned that this VA doesnt like paying its bills. The same day I had an out in town orthopedic surgeon appointment canceled for the same reason in which I already seeing this guy and I still do. Biloxi VA hurts more than helps.Pay your bills.

WORST customer service EVER!!! VA sent me a letter saying that they would cut off services if I didnt get in contact with them. Called 3 times and left voicemails. Fourth time i called, the voicemail was full and stayed that way for days. More to follow...I dare the director to call me back. Thats a laugh, though, since when you ask the operator to transfer you to the director, VA policy only allows them to transfer to the patient advocate office.

I tried all day Thursday, April 11, 2019 to get through to the patient advocate. The telephone number listed in the phone directory is incorrect. I had to go through the operator each time to be transferred. I kept getting a message that all representatives were busy, to select 1 to receive a call back, 2 to continue to hold. I left the message for a callback at 10:00 am. When I did not hear from anyone, I called again at about 1:00 pm and was put through by the operator. I was on hold for 2 hours, 13 minutes before I was disconnected. The message kept saying I was first in line. I called operator again and asked to speak to someone in Administration. The operator informed me that according to protocol I could only be transferred to the Patient Advocate. Then I decided to try a couple of other VA patient advocate telephone numbers, just to see if I could get anyone on the phone at the Mobile VA and the Jackson VA. The Mobile VA number rang for 5 minutes, 35 seconds. No one ever answered. I had a similar experience with the Jackson VA number. There was no option to leave a message. So it seems the whole patient advocate (aka ombudsman) program is a complete sham. And the veteran cannot even report the problem to anyone because the main operator would not transfer me to someone in Administration who is responsible for managing the program. Guess I will send a snail mail letter but do not expect to get a response. Since I live almost 100 miles from the VA, it is difficult to show up in person. And even if I did show up to the office, I have grave doubts that there is anyone there who can help me. Very, very poor service.

As a veteran. Forget getting help. They struggle to answer the phone, return voicemails, and listen to your complaint. Majority of the staff seem to not even care. Its no wonder why we have so many veterans that give up on life, end up homeless, or dying from something that could have been prevented for proper care in a timely manner.

The VA owes me travel pay from 1 Oct 2018. I was told there’s a 2 week back log. I called again and they said it’s now a 6 week back log. I tried calling to get a status and for the remainder of 2018 until today, no one has picked up the phone. I finally reached the supervisor and my travel voucher miraculously disappeared. I was told I’m too far away to receive travel pay but I received travel pay prior to 1 Oct 2018. This has led me to believe either they’re liars or just plain shady. It’s simply pathetic how they can’t keep up with paperwork and don’t inform people on situations like this on how travel pay is “supposedly” only for certain areas.

Usually get good service from operators in directing my calls, but today was an exception. First, operator transferred my call to wrong location, when I called back and informed her of her mistake, same operator was rude and I was put on hold for extended period, sort of like being put in the penalty box for daring to speak up. Eventually I hung up and called back, fortunately reached a different operator on third attempt. 20 minutes wasted. Suggest remedial training for VA operators on common courtesy and phone etiquette.

Be very careful of the Eye Clinic. While the techs and nurses are very helpful, the Resident Doctors are low skill and careless. The arrangement with Tulane to supply Docs is a poor one. Several bad experiences with these people. After my most recent experience at the eye clinic, I went to an outside Eye Doc and he told me that damage to my eye caused by a careless laser operation, almost caused me to lose my eye.

I am a U.S. Army vet and have been going to the VA Biloxi for 7 years. I cant say enough good things about the courtesy, professionalism and quality of treatment from everyone there. I remember the first visit I had at the Womens Clinic and my doctor spent over an hour just asking questions and learning about my health history and concerns. That would NEVER happen in a civilian office where the doctor rushes in and out. I have never had a problem with getting the care I need in a timely manner by qualified professionals. The medical complex is beautiful, clean and well organized. Thank you, VA--I highly recommend you to my fellow vets.

The mental health aspect(at least for me) has been outstanding. Update: 3/21/22, had to go to ER about 1 month ago, great ER doc, Dr. Smith. Great bedside manner, diagnosed properly, treated properly and...healed. Nursing staff in er and especially in mental health outstanding, great, good people working at the VA. Several years ago I had to go to the VA ER, literally (and Im using this word correctly) almost died due to a physician in their ER. He missed the following(this is about 1 visit)pneumonia, a gallbladder that had been ruptured for approximately 2 months, I had peritonitis, going into sepsis. He sent me home with 3 ativans-0.25. I found out what he missed because (just as I thought, I was actually dying). He sent me home in a taxi (some crazy driver who detoured to pick up some lady of whom he stated she must go casinos every day)with the diagnosis of anxiety. I got home and knew something was still terribly wrong. I knew that I was dying. Just didnt know what was going on with my body. Shortly after getting home I called 911. I asked them to please get me to the nearest hospital. The hospital in Bay St. Louis did their jobs correctly and SAVED MY LIFE! I later confronted the VA ER physician-his last name rhymes with Hilton. I, much later, gave him a chance to apologize. I told him every single diagnosis that he missed. That I had to have er surgery the very same day that he sent me home. He didnt apologize. He still didnt seem to understand that I almost died. He wouldnt own his mistakes. His off the wall misdiagnosis. The surgeon and attending physicians at the Bay St. Louis hospital told me later...after the emergency surgery)that I had maybe 2 hours left on my clock if that surgery and subsequent IV antibiotics had not taken place. Years ago, I had complained of bilateral knee pain for well over 2, I was sent the physical therapist at the VA, he was hateful and rude and just awful. He said theres nothing wrong with your knees. I insisted that there was. He became very defensive and said what do you expect us to do?. I said maybe an MRI a CT scan, something. He started yelling at me. He was AWFUL! I had an appointment with the PA a few weeks later. My knees were clearly swollen. The PA palpated my knees and with a bit of surprise in her voice stated youve got bursitis. My entire family of origin has served this country. In times of war and times of peace. One of my family members ( a cousin who was so much older than us we called him Uncle ) was held and tortured by the VC for 6 years- it wasnt just John McCain-there were other many pilots shot down and captured in Vietnam. Another uncle was hit by a mortar round and spent 2 and 1/2 yrs at Fort Sam Houston having his burns scrubbed daily. He had been drafted. He had been a Jesuit. My dad, a 20 year man, was in Korea and Vietnam. Weve done alot and sacrificed for our country. My nephew, a marine, was back from Iraq or Afghanistan and he went to the marine museum. He called my mom from the museum and said hey grandma youre in the museum . My mom said oh, isnt that nice . She had been a Marine for 5 years. We have served our country, our country has served us. The medical care, for me anyway, has improved lately and Im grateful to my providers. Thank you.
