So I was putting off this surgery for about 9 years now. My old dentist always told me that if i didnt remove them I would eventually experience some type of pain later on... Well, that indeed occurred. I was referred to dental clinic that works. On Monday I had this severe pain impacting my lower left wisdom tooth. I knew the time had come to finally get these puppies out. I tried contacting my usual dentist but to my dismay the surgeon only served that office twice a month. Not to mention, that office didnt believe in general anesthetics. So I did some research and boy was I lucky to find Dr. Jacob. So I saw Dr. Jacob on Tuesday and he evaluated my wisdoms and cleaned out the gum line of the tooth where I was experiencing pain. He told me that if the pain persist, to call him and he would prescribe me something to relieve the pain. Although I didnt take him up on that offer, I thought that was pretty nice.So I scheduled the appt as early as Thursday morning - 11:00am. Apprehensive and scared out of my mind.Lets talk about costs. I have AETNA PPO which covered most of the costs (including the general anesthesia). The total costs was $1955.00 for all four teeth and general anesthesia. Lucky for me, my estimated Co-Pay was only 301 + 15 bucks for some vicodine, post surgery. Not to bad, right? As previously mentioned, my appt was for 11am. The extraction of all four teeth took no longer than 30minutes. Pain? None what so ever. I was awake during the surgery, however because of the general anesthesia, i was really out of it.. lemme just say the 30mins felt like 10... seriously. Setting everything up took longer.. He uses a combination of general and local anesthesia, so you really wont feel anything. Plus since the dentist is on the sixth floor of the building, you get a pretty wonderful view since every chair faces a large sized window :)The weird thing is that I didnt hear any cracking or feel any pulling of any of my teeth. Id heard horror stories about people hearing each tooth crack or feeling the pulls and tugs from the dentist. not in my case... I didnt feel anything or really even notice anything was happening. So, overall Id say the experience was way less threatening than I had originally imagined. Dr. Jacob will make you feel comfortable - and if he doesnt, the plaques on the wall with all of his certificates should lol..BTW, I got mines done just about three hours ago.. My mouth is filled with gauze to stop any excessive bleeding.. Also, Ive got a bottle of pain killers, but havent felt the need for them yet. Anyhow, Dr. Jacob gets my highest recommendation for anyone who is looking for oral surgery.
