My mother had a very productive and pleasant stay for her rehab after she broke her hip and had surgery. She said the staff was professional and had excellent bedside manner. Highly recommend this facility!

My mother had a very good experience recovering from hip surgery at Carriage Hill. We had gone to a different post-op rehab center in Chevy Chase and had a terrible experience in a very uncomfortable and outdated facility before we got to Carriage Hill. My mom thought the physical therapy was great and she loved the nurses. Chris, in admissions, was very easy and responsive to work with.

Worst place ever. It is a facility that uses medicare to fund the salaries of their administrative staff with no concern for the welfare of the patient. If you are looking for rehabilitation this is not the place to send anyone. If you are looking for a place to put someone who is ready to die, but do not care how their last days are or how they are treated, it is perfect. We had to confiscate him because they will not let you remove anyone unless the in-house doctor who never sees the patient gives the ok. Our surgeon gave the ok to discharge and they said that was insufficient! Seriously unbelievably horrible experience! BTW 1 shower in two weeks and not enough physical therapy which could cause major problems in recovery plus did not walk him anywhere at all! Most of the nursing staff are lazy and not nice to top it off.Run from this place don’t walk!

After my mom suffered from a stroke in May, I needed to find a in-patient facility because she required rehab that because of Covid couldnt be done in-home.From the beginning I found it strange that the financial manager would be asking me questions about if she owned her home. I didnt understand how that was related to the therapy that Medicare pays for.I began trying to figure out how I could bring her home since the few calls I received regarding therapy were actually calls either to tell me that they were going to discontinue therapy or...to let me know that I would be charged because she was choking on her food. Also I asked to see her medical records as her poer of attorney and was rebuffed over and over again. Once I received them I saw that she was on painkillers that would make therapy obsolete anyway. Not that I even once was blessed to be able to have a simple conversation with the Doctor in Residence. I dont actually know if the Dr exists.I decided to bring in Hospice so I could get her home. I had been told by Carriage Hill that she would need a RN 24 hours a day and that might not be enough. That was told to me by the financial person who kept insisting that my husband and I who had cared for her for 12 years were not close to adequate for the job.In early August I was told that she was dying. I was allowed to go inside for the first time for a short visit. By the time I saw her she didnt recognize me.Walking in I saw the residents sitting in front of doorways too far apart to have any conversation. I noticed that all the staff were sitting or standing around their station. Talking to each other. They didnt even notice me walk by.No music, no interaction with residents. It was one of the saddest scenes I could imagine.I had been yelled at countless times for wanting to speak with my mom. I had been made to feel guilty because of how busy they were. I felt so guilty every day when I called because I thought I was a burden to the nursing assistants.I was terrified of being reamed out again.I know now that they use intimidation to keep family from calling. I know now that the vast majority of the staff I spoke to were lying.Just as they lied about reading the Get Well Soon cards.I was assured on many occasions that the cards being sent were being read to her. Looking around her room I couldnt help but notice that a stack of well wishing cards hadnt been opened. Going back to the beginning. If my heart wasnt broken I would like to think I would make sure that this couldnt happen to anyone else. All I can say is that Carriage Hill is much more interested in whether your parents have assets they will inevitably take.It may look nice outside and inside but thats probably the point. Its to hide the truth of the kind of people that work there.

Very disappointing. My 93-year old father was sent here after surgery for a broken hip. They dont have nearly enough staff to respond to patients in a timely manner. My dad would push the call button and it would be a very long time before someone came. The call button simply turns on a light on top of the doorway so if no one looks down the hall, they dont know that a patient needs help. Half the staff were relatively pleasant; the other half were snotty and downright mean to my father. The food was adequate. The cleaning left a lot to be desired. We spent as much time there as we could so that there would be someone to take care of him - not the staff, US!!! They put him in a diaper and when I tried to get someone to put him on a bed pan to defecate, their response was to let him do it in his diaper! I had to FORCE the aide to give him the bedpan. How humiliating for my father! The rehab people were nice, but distracted by soccer games on TV in the rehab center, cell phones, etc. My father couldnt wait to get out of there.

At first I thought this was a good place for my husband to have rehab but over the course of several weeks I saw that the care here is lax and unprofessional. The nurses were always bothered by any questions we had. The night staff just ignored my husband. He became ill there because of their lack of care and we got him out as soon as we could. Do not take anyone there unless they are nearly dead. Awful place

The facilities here at Carriage Hill are some of the nicest in the area. It is one of the few that fosters a true community feel for its residents. I would feel comfortable putting my family here and you should too.

The staff is wonderful and caring. They were attentive to my questions and concerns. They made me feel at ease with my decision for my family. Carriage Hill is definitely the right choice.

Did a decent job caring giving me rehab services ((physical and occupational therapy) for my crushed shoulder, after nearly two weeks in the hospital for emergency surgery. And the staff were pleasant. But I am a diabetic who takes two types of insulin—short-acting and long-acting, and though they regularly gave me antibiotics, they otherwise did a poor job of caring for my diabetes — so much so that the surgeon had to postpone my surgery until my blood sugar came down. This despite the fact that they took frequent measurements of my blood sugar levels and had total control over my diet (both of which they handled well). The problem was that they never gave me nearly enough short-term insulin, despite my frequent warnings, and did not administer it at the right times. I should have been given insulin just before each meal, but instead they gave it to me after blood sugar tests at seemingly random times of day unrelated to mealtimes. I will say that they administered my long-term insulin correctly. But I feel lucky not to have gotten an infection at the site of my incision, because proper administration of that short—term insulin is critical.

My uncle is dying by choice in The Carriage Hill Nursing Home and Hospice. He wants to die naturally. He has a colostomy and the staff does not know how to change the bag. He lies in his feces until some aide comes to change the bag incompetently. I am there once or twice daily and this happens at least once a day. The head Nurse tells me everyone there knows how to change the bag. He is in danger of serious infection. Last night his bag was changed and leaked three times. He wound up with his feet on the floor and he is unable to walk and his bones are brittle. Carriage Hill will kill him before his wish to starve does.I waited until he passed before reporting Carriage Hill. When I received feedback from nurse sent to verify my complaints, documents had been altered, dates were changed, meetings were invented. I urge you to document every day of your relatives stay. My 99 y.o. uncle had days when he screamed for morphine and none was given. I went to an administrator and he looked up the prescription. His PNR said he was to have morphine whenever he needed it. He suffered needlessly.
