I used to see Dr. Susan Hakeman about 10 years ago and she is AWESOME!! People don’t seem to realize she is a psychiatrist who prescribes meds, not a therapist who listens to your everyday problems. There is a huge difference. I LOVE HER!! If I hadn’t moved to Southern California, I would still see her!

Ive had the pleasure of working with Dr. Hakeman for 15+ years. She is one of the most caring, compassionate, loving doctors I have ever known. While it takes time to establish trust in a patient doctor relationship, Dr. Hakeman is very professional and I would highly recommend her to anyone who is serious about getting help.

While I was a little hesitant after reading the reviews I made an appointment with Dr Hakeman and I was very surprised. Dr Hakeman was very thorough. She asked more questions about my medical background than most primary care doctors ever have. She asked questions and listened to everything I said before making notes. She thoughtfully answered all my questions about different kinds of medications not just about what they did but how they were delivered into your system. I left her office feeling like I had found a Doctor who really cared and was easy to talk with.

Shes a psychiatrist evaluator and a mental health medication provider, if you are looking for talk therapy, Dr. Hakeman isnt for you. I think shes awesome and extremely good at what she does. I am a picky one, so to find a medical professional I like is difficult, Dr. Hakeman is the real deal. Shes helped me and I have referred her to a friend of mine who also found success with Dr. H.

Ive seen Dr Hakeman on and off for 3 years. I was saddened to see the bad reviews for her but I suspect that most of the bad reviews are of first impressions of her.Yes, Dr Hakeman is a little odd, but it becomes endearing. She has a good heart and she is really good at her job. She has never rushed me out of an appointment. She has always listened to my feedback about the meds and tweaked doses as necessary. She persistently encouraged me to find a primary care Dr and therapist, showing that she is concerned about my overall well being.

She does a great job following up in a crisis and getting people in to see her when needed. She is open to changing medications and diagnosis without a major hassle. I have been seeing her over a year and shes wonderful and easy to talk to. Shes help take a lot of shame and guilt out of my own mental health stigma.

It seems as though these other reviews may be quite embellished and aimed at taking personal digs and Dr. Hakeman. Ive been seeing her for a bit over two years and not a single complaint. When Ive accidentally missed appointments, I dont get charged; she calls me personally and makes sure everything is ok, and then reschedule. Shes always making sure that physically and psychologically Im doing well and has never made me feel other wise. Shes been great and the only reason I will be no longer seeing her by the end of the year is because I am moving out of Bellingham. Great Dr., highly recomended

Dr. Hakeman kicked me out of her practice the day my mother died because I was too emotional. She claimed it was over $100 I owed her. She was my doctor for four years. She is completed detached from her patients. I asked her once why I was crying so much and she said it was because I was a wimp. She had no answers for me and when I began to suffer from symptoms of Tardive Dyskinesia she actually INCREASED my anti-psychotics to more than experimental levels and been told later that the medication was at a level that is never prescribed in any clinical situation. Dr. Hakeman is insensitive, rude and only cares about the bottom line on her expensive, bourgeois high rise office. She is also quite a gossiper, sharing my business with other patients and colleges without my permission. I know this for a fact because I know three other people that used to see Dr. Hakeman and Dr. Cohen.Do not see this doctor!!

A friend tried to get help with this woman and had a horrible experience. She has an attitude problem. To be charitable I would say she is burnt out....either that or she is some kind of sociopath.
