I’ve always had good encounters with all of there staff and they always make me feel welcomed!!

I scheduled a visit for an annual physical exam (CPT 99385), but was billed a problem-based code (CPT 99204). I spoke with the clinic coordinator, Kevin, who told me he would talk to the provider I saw, Dr. Dustin Cheney, about the issue. Dr. Cheney went beyond the scope of the annual physical exam by baiting me into discussing current health issues and then billed me as a problem-based visit (which is not 100% covered by my insurance). This left me with a ~$400 bill to pay out-of-pocket. Its not clear that Dr. Cheney actively did this, but he was clearly unaware of the scope of the visit. This is unacceptable. If I schedule a physical exam, I expect the doctor to know what that is, and what that isnt. It is absolutely not okay to lure patients into discussing things that will incur additional out-of-pocket fees. The office will not change the billing code, and therefore I am stuck paying for this visit that I did not schedule. Dr. Cheney was nice and easy to talk to, but I do not recommend him because he is either actively trying to bait patients, or is not knowledgeable about the scope of standard office visits -- neither are acceptable. I am waiting to hear back from Kevin, but he told me the CPT code cant be changed if it accurately reflects what was discussed in the visit.UPDATE: Dr. Cheney agreed to adjust the billing code to reflect the physical exam. It was still an inconvenience, but Im glad they were able to make the changes. Rating has been updated.
