Lack of communication between patients and family members. When calling to speak to nurses about patient medical issue you are put on hold for 30 min at a time only to be promised a call back in 30 min that never happens. Had care team conference for my mother and there was a medical issue that she has had in the past that needed to be treated, I was promised a nurse practioner would look at it, which never happened. Instead the gave her an antibiotic for a urinary tract infection that she was tested for and did not have, the symptoms she was having were from her previous medical condition that they kept ignoring and not looking at it. It has been over a week of phone calls and they are still not addressing the problem. They are understaffed, which is understandable during theses times, but if you are that understaffed then you should not be accepting more patients that you cannot care for correctly. I am doing everything I can to pull my mom from this facility, there is no care for the patients. Do not send your loved ones here.

Following a week at Good Shepherd Hospital after I had spent time there for a broken leg, I opted to do my rehabilitation therapy at Alden Estates instead of going home. I needed the staff at Alden to work with me and strengthen my leg. And that they did. They have a super therapy staff and a super support staff. My injury received thorough scrutiny and analysis with Alden’s specialists. My pain management received the utmost attention; while I rehabbed, controlling that made my working out flourish. I had my own room - it was very spacious. Very comfortable. The key ingredient was the staff. Caring and always up for listening to you and your needs. I received visits from administrative staff to make sure I was on target with my insurance and personal planning objectives. I was asked by Nancy Kusmerz if I would write a review. Her assistance coordinating my stay made the answer an easy yes. Alden is driven. During these rough times, they up their game to take care of you. Back home now and better prepared because of Alden. If you are in need, Alden is your answer - make it your choice.

My mom has been in long-term care here for over 2 years. I gave 5 stars for the way they have managed through the pandemic. They have been outstanding in responding to protecting the residents and managing COVID-19 in this facility. They have worked tirelessly to keep our loved ones safe and to keep the families informed. So many adjustments and changing requirements made this very difficult to navigate, but they opened up communication with the families and always welcomed feedback so they could address any issues. This required the entire staff to adjust how they operated in caring for the residents as well as working with the family members. They are thoughtful, caring and dedicated. Sherry, Farhad and Jessica have been outstanding. Their extra efforts to manage loneliness when we couldnt be there is forever appreciated. As with any care and rehab facility there are opportunities for improvement. I think there should be a more consistent and proactive way to get medical and care updates. Additionally, I would recommend looking at the responsibilities and quality of the reception desk as they seem unorganized, uniformed and unable to help (or give direction) with basic questions. It seems as this is more about processes rather than personalities as they have all been kind and courteous. For my family, this has been the right place for my mom and I am grateful for all that work there and care for her.

I was brought to Alden Estates of Barrington for rehab following knee replacement surgery. I was greeted by an amazing management team, followed immediately by a quick round of physical therapy. Speaking of physical therapy, the therapists were truly professional and in practically no time had me walking and doing things I haven’t been able to do for years. The nursing and CNA staff took interest in my needs, and helped me immensely. A rehab is not a restaurant, the food was good and plentiful. I would highly recommend Alden Estates of Barrington if ever you need rehab or convalescence.

A true shot in the arm!! My mother stayed at Alden Estates of Barrington for just over 6 weeks. She was in and out of the hospital during that period and they were very accommodating saving her room and welcoming her back. During her stay the call system was under renovation and I think due to Covid at times they were understaffed. All in all her stay was good. All staff treated her with kindness and patience. While there she received her first dose of the C19 vaccine. Upon her release and for the last 3 weeks, we had great difficulty securing her second dose due to her being homebound and having to hire a private ambulance to transport at a cost of about $1000! Today the Alden administrator and two assistants came with a handicapped van and oxygen to transport her back to the facility for her second dose. Her shot in the arm!A huge huge thank you to Alden Estates of Barrington, Farhad, Mark, and Claudia!! You truly went Above and Beyond!

I was disappointed. I was only a short term resident, but the response times for call buttons for assistance or pain medication was very, very slow. Do not arrive in the late afternoon or evening because they cannot get certain meds in a timely fashion. Communication was poor. PT/OT, maintenance crew, and housekeeping were very friendly. Nurses and CNAs were nice but seemed understaffed, especially at night. They were making some upgrades to call button system. I did not see any of the facilities because of C19.

I recently left Alden Estates of Barrington having been there 4 1/2 weeks. I went there for physical therapy and continuing care after being in a hospital for 8 days. I had been to another nursing home earlier this year, and the treatment I got at Alden was like heaven compared to the other one. I found the physical and occupational therapy programs to be outstanding. I met many people there including the managers, nurses and nurses aides, and therpists. They all treated me like they really were concerned and wanted to help me. I consider them all to be my friends. Also, the facility is doing an excellent job of staying covid free. Finally, I found the food they serve there to be outstanding. The planned meals are of good variety and prepared excellently. Some substitutions are available. I definitely recommend Alden Estates to anyone looking for a nursing home.Dr John Peacock

6 months now and still have not gotten back anything. Not even the stuff that was mailed to her the week before she passed!! Hope they increase their security and anyone caught stealing from residents should lose their job!!!Well, 5 months now!! I hope the nurses and nurses aides are enjoying my moms personal property that they stole from her and from me!! Trust is a very strong word and they have just added another reason as to why I dont trust people!!I had always heard the horror stories about nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities. I never could imagine that people could be that heartless and uncaring about other people. I believe that my moms case was too severe for them to handle and they should have never taken her as a patient. Now she is gone and I cant even get her personal property back. I wouldnt wish this nightmare on anyone.Wouldnt recommend this facility for my worst enemy!!! They tell you whatever you want to hear just to fill beds. They are very deceiving and sneaky to the point my mom is being held hostage because their billing department doesnt seem to know how to process anything correctly. Would give them negative stars if it was possible.

I wish I would have put her in there sooner, as she was never lonely and had so much fun. They are the best!

Last night I spent the evening with my dad at Alden Estates of Barrington. While everyone there has been exceptionally kind I wanted to share with you what a special night this turned out to be.My dad was asking for me so I decided to spend the Halloween evening with him. While enjoying the great salad bar, live music and fun costumes, I noticed a women who I often see working in the dining room. She seemed very kind hearted as I noticed she took the time to put her arm around a senior, help another with opening a pudding pack or simply sitting down for a moment to talk, each time bringing a smile to another. Before we left the dining room, I just had to walk up and thank her for the kindness she shows to the elderly. She told me she enjoys working there and helping whenever she can because our seniors deserve kindness and respect. She then introduced me to her 16 year old twin daughters who also work there part time to save for college. Sweet young girls, who like their mom, took the time to sit down and talk with seniors who rarely get visitors.I am now left with 4 big bags of candy! Will donate to all the nurses, aids and servers at Alden Estates of Barrington who everyday bring smiles to those who deserve a moment of kindness.Thank you for your hard work and for the kindness and smiles you brings to others.

During the short time she was there Alden nurses gave medicine to my sister when on the notes on there computer system it clearly showed up in red as an alert not to give this medication, My sister ended up unresponsive to us for a week, due to this. The 2nd time she ended up at Good Shepherd she was died!!!!!!!! Even months later, l am still traumatized by my experience at Alden of Barrington Estates. I am diabetic and often did not receive my insulin. I contracted food poisoning and had to be transported by Superior Ambulance to Good Shepherd Hospital about 1 AM. No one answered the call button so I tried to walk and I could not get help. I lay on the cold floor in my own waste and vomit for 45 minutes. The staff said things like Im not touching her and I pleaded with them to get me up off the cold floor. I was able to pull the phone down and call 911. I pleaded with the dispatcher for help. I was afraid I was going to die of hypothermia. When the Superior ambulance came, they put my bare bottom on the vinyl mattress, not withstanding my feces. They only put a thin sheet over me, despite the filth beneath me. I later had an infection on my bottom. At Good Shepherd Hospital they had to give me two litres of fluids and sent me back to that hell hole. They did not let me bathe for a week. Finally, I was bathed, only to find I was being discharged and they had called my son to get me. That explains the bathing. I would not send my worst enemy to Alden of Barrington Estates.

I have been in the Health Care Industry for 33 years. I have to say I have never seen a more professional facility. The nursing staff is one of the best. My wife would not be alive today if it werent their attention to detail. They are always willing to go the extra mile. Unit 2C wing has the most awesome nurses you could ask for. From the front office to the cleaning crew are outstanding. They are in my words A++++++. If I ever become ill or need of rehab I want to go there. The nurses will explain everything to you if you need to know. I am so impressed with this facility. The only bad thing which is not a bad thing is if you call after hours you will be on hold for some time. This is a sign that they tend to the patients more than just answer the phone. I feel it is better to have them taking care of patients than hanging around the nurses station. This is the best place you can find.

I would give it ZERO stars if I could. Staff is awful. No one seems to know how to follow Dr orders for patients. My grandma has been there for less than 3 months and has had 3 hospital admissions. AVOID this place - she has gone most days waiting over 30-40 minutes to get help up from the bathroom and the dr has ordered her multiple treatments that she does not get. Staff sits out at the nurses station on their phones while call lights go off for over 20 minutes. Despicable treatment. Have left multiple messages for administration with no call back. As a nurse, it makes me furious that the care is so poor here!

I would rate Zero Stars if that was an option. My Mom was admitted there for respiratory therapy and was there for only 24 hours. During that short window the care was non-existent. Not only did she not see a respiratory therapist during that time but even basic care was an issue. The caregiver to patient ratio must be horrible because the response time was extraordinarily lengthy. I was on FaceTime with my Mom while she waited for someone to walk with her to the bathroom. She waited 90 minutes before someone responded to her call button. 90 MINUTES! I don’t blame the nurses and techs for the poor response time. I blame the management of the facility. If you want good, responsive care for your loved ones, research another facility.

My favorite aunt recently stayed at Alden of Barrington until her death. Se was 92. I visited her at least three times a week for about four months until she passed. Im a curious fellow and some would say Im pretty detailed. I looked closely at this Alden facility in Barrington that my cousin put my aunt into.I found the staff from upper management to the assistant nurses all kind, compassionate, and knowledgeable people within the scope of their particular job. I wanted to mention a few names in management that I had more then a few conversations with. Cynthia the head of nursing, Kathy B who runs the facility and especially Sheri C who Im not sure what her position is, all i know is she was always there when I needed someone. Shes an outstanding communicator and always followed up on what she promised me for my aunt. I would put Cynthia and certainly Kathy right in there also as people I could rely on whenever I had questions about her care, diet, or medication. I found the food, service, response time, therapy, and the facility itself to be just fine.I often thought of the other patients there and their level of care. It looked to me like they were taken care of very well. I thought of also why they were there, a number of different reasons. I guess this facility takes all but only a few of the types of patients who need care. So lets remember, this is not a hospital. Quite often they receive patients where their stay and insurance is up from the hospital and this is their only alternative. Or the hospital could unfortunately do nothing further for the patient. Individuals who have to receive some type of therapy for their recovery. People who are paralyzed or in some way 90% incapacitated, or even wards of the state. And finally people who come to Barrington for some level of assisted living;...a nursing home to permanently stay and feel good, respected, taken care of, and maintain their sense of dignity.Remember our loved ones come to these facilities because their not doing well. This puts a lot of strain on us and we run with a high level of emotion. Were angry, were upset, were tired, and we are at some level of grieving for our loved one.So Alden of Barrington not only takes care of the patient, but us, the grieving loved ones. Ive seen it again and again. In my humble opinion they get a solid 5 stars for both. For my wonderful aunt I couldnt of been more pleased where she spent the last months of her life. I know she would feel the same about it too, not only because she had 100% trust in me but because she felt it too.Sincerely,A loved one of a loved one

My grandpa spent about a month an a half in rehab here and he hated it for the most part. My grandpa suffered a stroke 6 years ago and has been paralyzed on his left side so he needs help with most things. He ended up hurting his arm while he was there (a huge gash on his forearm) Im not sure what nurces helped him but he said that they forgot to change or refused to change his wrap for his wound and when they did they did not clean the wound and did not put any healing ointment on it so when she wrapped it the gauze stuck to my grandpas wound and when they changed it again they ripped some of his skin off. There are many other reasons he didnt like this place he told me he was stuck waiting on the toliet multiple time for 30+mins for a nurse to come back and help him get up. There are redeeming factors the head nurse my grandpa loved and a few others are really good with their job but honestly they need to pay more attention. I dont reccomend this place for rehab or for living assistance.

Physical therapy is good. Other than that, the management is rude, unable to get a hold of, and totally inept in handling my husbands release. The staff is just lazy. My husband sat in a diarrhea filled diaper for over an hour. He called me after 45 mins. of this. I called from home, and got connected to the nurses station with no answer. I called again and told the receptionist to go back there and get someone to change my husbands diaper. My daughter told him to take it off and throw it in the hallway. Trying to get my husband out of there, they called the oxygen delivery on the oxygen guys day off at 4PM telling them it was an emergency! He showed up 2 hours later after driving for 1-1/2 hours. I had waited all day for this to come, and no one called. Then Alden called the prescription of drugs into the wrong pharmacy, after calling me to specify the desired pharmacy which they already had in their records. Good gosh!!! My husband said the food was awful! The executive I talked to said this was the first time someone has complained about the food. Really? He also told me that this nursing home was just as good as the hospital. In the hospital, the nurses desk was right outside the rooms. Response time was immediate. This executive talked a good line as he collected $33,000 per month, $14,000 just for the room, and finally released my husband, not because he was ready, but because the insurance ran out. The oxygen guy thought this place was elite, being in Barrington. Its just another run down dump of a nursing home with lame care, with a great entrance garden complete with really cool fish. Dont let the pictures out here fool you!Alden told me that my husband wouldnt be contagious from C Diff that he got there when he comes home. Right! Our entire house is now contagious, I may catch it, and no one can visit. I was babysitting my 7-year old Grandson before and after school. Its a DCFS violation to have him here. Were having an enormous problem finding him before and after school care plus transportation at this time of the school year. Thank you, Alden!Make sure you have plenty of Plastic Gloves, Clorox Wipes and Lysol when you bring your loved one home! Get a commode and put a garbage bag in the bucket for easy cleaning. Wear gloves for everything. Spray everything, including flushers, toilet seats, cell phones, light switches, etc. Put Clorox Wipes out to use to clean hands. Hand sanitizers dont work because they are alcohol based. You need bleach. So much more to learn. I sure didnt need this!Patients who are bed ridden and have C Diff are constantly re-infecting themselves because they are given no way to wash their hands before they eat. Just some Clorox wipes, Lysol, or a clean bucket of water and lots of soap would do the job. They are lucky to get their diaper changed in here, much less get something to disinfect their hands! Once infected, they get it over and over. Then they bring it home when they get released.A person died when I came to visit. I told an attendant, and he said that it happens there all the time. They dont seem to realize that some people come there to get better. At $34,000 a month, I would expect more.Wake up Alden! Dont just put 2 patients with C Diff in one room so they can re-infect each other. Im finding its easy to get rid of, and that doesnt include getting rid of the anti-biotics! If you gave the patients a way to clean themselves, and also clean the rooms properly, you wouldnt have this problem. Lysol gets rid of C Diff in 3 minutes. Finally, if your loved one is here to die, its a good place to go...

WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND! I dont care what the cost may be, find a different facility and do not go to Alden. They take on more patients than they can handle so not every person receives the appropriate care they need. During my fathers stay for almost a month, the communication with the staff was awful. I was put on hold for approximately 20+ minutes several times just to get updates on my father/ask general questions/return phone calls, etc. The patients/residents were much more informative than the staff. The meals are always served cold (especially breakfast) and they are extremely small portions. If you want to visit someone at Alden, you need an appointment 24 hours in advance. Honestly, please dont even consider Alden if you have a loved one that needs the care and attention that they deserve.
