I have been a patient of Dr. Wingrove since May 2018 but I wish found her many years before. She is a great doctor! She listens, cares about you and your health, she explains things clearly and answers your questions. You never feel rushed during an appointment with her because she schedules her appointments by the hour and has a easy to use online calendar for scheduling appointments.

After months and months of questions and tests with other doctors I finally got referred to Dr Wingrove. Not only did I get one of the most thorough exams I have ever had, I got answers and a plan for moving forward on how to resolve my issues. Dr Wingrove was kind, patient, and asked questions that helped her get a whole picture of the issues I am dealing with. She was thoughtful, when things got emotional for me she was kind, and I cannot believe the level of relief I felt walking out of her office. If you are dealing with any neurological issues I cannot recommend Dr Wingrove enough. The kindest, most thoughtful doctor I have ever seen in my 31 years on this earth.

My story is lengthy, but if you also are desperately in need of a doctor who truly listens, takes their time, has the patience to start from the beginning, look beyond what other doctors might have said, meticulously review your complex situation and offer several options and ideas, Dr. Wingrove is your gal.In 2017 a mild Chiari Malformation showed up on my MRI after having severe headaches when I was being upright. It was originally recommended from my pain management doctor that I see Dr. Wingrove, but I ended up having to go the traditional insurance route. So much money was spent anyways seeing neurosurgeons and neurologists who truly did not even listen to my history. I’m not exactly sure what the point is of writing out history, telling it to a nurse, and then telling it to the doctor only for all of them to get it so terribly wrong. No one reviewed imaging themselves. Just the radiology report, which is was full of errors and interpreted by an inexperienced eye.Needless to say, I was getting nowhere with my diagnosis or treatment options. One neurosurgeon going so far as to say he could “try a decompression surgery to see if it helps” as if he was offering me a blood test instead of a very serious brain surgery. I waited six months to see a neurologist who had not only canceled many times, but canceled 20 minutes before my appointment. I was bed bound, desperate and had finally it. It had been a full year since finding the Chiari.I made an appointment with Dr. Wingrove and a time slot opened up just a few days later. An 80 minute face-to-face appointment where SHE took my history. I filled out not a single history form. It was just her listening to me, asking questions about my present symptoms and past, asking about other illnesses (something most doctors who only see you for 15 minutes don’t have the time to do) and then finally saying she knew what it might be, but also explaining other possibilities and ways we could help my symptoms. She hit the nail on the head with the first thing, as it was discovered I had a spinal fluid leak just a few days later when I went in for a lumbar puncture and CT myelogram.Due to having a connective tissue disorder, she worked with the Neuro-radiologist to make sure they did the patching the same day if something was found. That wasn’t the end of the story as more discoveries were made, but she has been there every step of the way helping me to get into the specialists I need, providing the supportive care in the mean time and not making me come in for unnecessary monthly appointments while we are just waiting on other hospitals to see me. She is one of two medical professionals out of dozens I can truly count on being there in my ongoing desperate time. When you are chronically ill you learn very quickly how the world of medicine works between insurance hurdles and the lack of time offices have when they accept insurance. Healthcare is such a slow moving process. Even the time constraints insured doctors are under severely limits the amount of time they have to listen to you, process why you are there, reach into your past to find anything that might give away what’s going on, and just do some thinking. So many doctors exclusively rely on tests to tell them what’s wrong rather than having the time to just sit and think. For-profit healthcare has made it this way, and while I am very grateful for even having insurance, the amount of money I spent out of pocket to get nowhere for a year was easily 10x the cost of the initial visit with Dr. Wingrove.I know it can be scary to take the chance on an expensive appointment not covered by insurance, but if you are somebody who has fallen between the cracks of our healthcare system, aren’t being heard or are being invalidated with your current healthcare provider, Dr. Wingrove could very well be your breakthrough.

Dr. Wingrove spends the time needed to get to know the issue and has been extremely helpful to me in getting my migraine issue in check.I have gone to other neurologists and they have not been nearly as helpful and as up to date on recent methods to address migraines. Highly recommend!

Dr. Wingrove is brilliant, and is a breath of fresh air! I have seen Dr. Wingrove two times. I have seen many doctors in my life, and I have never had such a positive experience so quickly with ANY doctor. Her approach to health and wellness is exactly what I have been searching for, as she seems to look at the whole picture. Rather than honing in one’s symptoms or diagnosis’ that pertain only to her specialty, she is able to look at the body as a “whole”. She is extremely thorough and is an excellent listener. On my first appointment she listened to me for over two hours while I explained to her my life long health history. I instantly felt comfortable around her, she was very quick to validate my feelings, and acknowledged my experience of an acute decline in health over the last year. She listened to my entire life-long health history and asked methodical questions related to the story that I gave her- as to leave no box unchecked! I was very impressed, grateful, and relieved to FINALLY see a doctor that seems to care! Her practice is super intimate, and I am amazed to meet a doctor that does not cram their schedule with multiple patients in 15 minute increments. She is SO kind, and I have not seen any condescending or egotistical tendencies in her that most doctors, especially with her level of expertise and training, seem to have. She has given me hope in a really difficult time in my life- and for that, I am forever grateful for her!

Dr. Iris Wingrove is a phenomenal neurologist. Highly recommend! She’s been my doctor for years at both Optimize Neurology and her former practice. She is clearly brilliant, well-educated, and she spent her neurology residency at the Mayo Clinic. She’s so good, in fact, that my other doctors defer to her on medical questions or decisions. Other medical experts see that Dr. Wingrove is phenomenal, too. She is the go-to doctor. From a patient’s point of view, one of the things that makes Dr. Wingrove so special is she really listens to her patients. She takes time to understand what is going on, tries to figure out a solution, and ensures that the patient is comfortable with the plan before moving forward.A great thing about her practice, it is structured so that each patient has more consultation time with Dr. Wingrove than at most medical practices. She has always allotted time for my many questions and never made me feel badly about asking them. Her commitment to her patients is clear. She is there to help patients - she has a real passion for medicine, she’s up-to-date on current medical innovations, her kindness, no pun intention, is infectious.Neurological issues, like other health issues, are complex and frustrating so having a doctor who the patient can trust is key. She doesn’t just tell me what to do, she asks me what I’d like to do and has real conversations about the pros and cons of options. In fact, she encourages the patient to be very involved in their care. Dr. Wingrove ensures that her patients are partners in their care. I’m very glad to have found her.

I saw Dr. Wingrove nine months ago after suffering from Migraine for the last 20 years. My experience in her office was so refreshing. She spent time really listening to me and was able to prescribe a medication that took me from 15 headache days per month to 0 migraine days in the last 9 months. I am so grateful to have my life back!!

I had a friend go to this nuerologist & Dr Wingrove was not respectful or helpful. My friend was hit by a drink driver & was not advised well. She shouldve been put on disability immediately but Iris Wingrove had to run months & months of tests, all while my friend had no income. A typical doctor who cannot understand her patients & their problems.

My wife developed a rare incurable disease called limbic encephalitis, a form of autoimmune encephalitis. It took a year and a half of hospitalizations and numerous neurologists before any one suggested autoimmune encephalitis was the problem. Dr. Wingrove was the only neurologist we found in Austin with experience treating the disease. She has been great! We highly recommend her.

I started having migraines about eight years ago, and had seen a few neuros in Dallas and NYC that I was never wowed by. Dr. Wingrove spends real time listening to your history and needs, provides quality care and communicative intelligence to help you find the right balance of treatments, ensures you understand what is happening before acting on anything, and she is not ever going to just rush you out the door with cookie-cutter diagnoses or treatments -- like most of todays doctors, even the most talented ones. She is trained at the Mayo Clinic and has many more accreditations and education and she is always learning about new treatments for her patients. Her quality of care is stellar, her communication is top-notch, and her ability to work with a patients specific needs to customize a solution is unrivaled. Even thought she doesnt accept insurance, her office can provide detailed billing for you to pass through to your insurance for reimbursement. Dr. Wingroves quality of care is rare and gold standard, and I recommend her often to anyone with neurological care needs.

Doctor Iris Wingrove saved my life. I would never use that phrase lightly. I am alive today because of Dr. Wingrove and nobody else. If you’re considering her as your Neurologist, read no further and make the appointment. Dr. Wingrove is beyond professional, kind, straightforward, and like no other Doctor I have ever encountered. If you want to know my story, know that I would not be here today if it wasn’t for Dr. Wingrove and her incredible staff. The Bell’s palsy I had went misdiagnosed for almost three weeks. It was only Dr. Wingrove that suspected a much darker, underlying cause: Lyme disease. My symptoms were getting worse (blurred vision, vertigo, hearing loss, intense facial pain) and my Primary Care Physician didn’t think anything of it. Dr. Wingrove immediately put me on an oral antibiotic after our initial visit, but it was too late. The infection had spread to my brain and was leading to spinal meningitis. By the time the test results came back my world was spinning out of control. I was rushed to Seaton Hospital’s ER on a Thursday afternoon and given a spinal tap. I should mention that during this time, Dr. Wingrove was giving a lecture at Rice University and coordinating efforts with her staff to have me admitted. Around 8:00pm she was at the airport in Houston, and also on the phone with my ER Physician… Have you ever met a Doctor that is in constant contact with you, another Doctor and her staff all on a Thursday evening—let alone from an airport? After being wrongfully discharged from the ER, did that Doctor contact another Hospital’s ER Director, on your behalf, to have you rightfully admitted there instead? If you haven’t had an experience like this, you deserve somebody that transcends the traditional responsibilities of a Doctor.Dr. Wingrove is nothing short of a Godsend. In the upcoming months I will need facial nerve restorative surgery at the MAYO clinic. Dr. Wingrove has already spoken to the clinic, created a chart number at the clinic, faxed over her records, and started the referral process. She even found me a new Primary Care Physician to see for the referral, and setup the appointment for next week (Note: The PCP nurse called to say that he is booked until January 2017; however, since it’s Dr. Wingrove’s request, he will see me as early as next week)… Incredible. Hardly believable, I’ve never felt like I was in better hands than with Dr. Wingrove.

Dr. Wingrove is an outstanding physician! I made an appointment with her after some disturbing changes in my life. I was experiencing memory loss, confusion, extreme irritability, and what Dr. Wingrove eventually concluded, was a complex-partial seizure. What was worse, I had a some issues with other doctors being somewhat dismissive and telling me I just needed to get more sleep. Dr. Wingrove however, ran a thorough battery of tests and was able to extract a few critical details that others had overlooked. With this information, I began appropriate treatments and got back to feeling like myself again.I also think that her time at the Mayo clinic has given her an advantage by working on some cases that are more rare or complex. I think this is why others thought I was just missing out on sleep while she was able to see what was actually going on with me.Dr. Wingrove has definitely proven to be one of the most attentive, detail-oriented, passionate, and caring doctors Ive encountered. If you are considering seeing a neurologist, I would highly recommend visiting her, I have full confidence that she can help anyone out there!

So let me start by saying that i have been trusting dr iris wingrove now for her services for 8 years. Originally she was my 82 year old grandmothers neurologist after a severe fall and head trauma resulting in a stroke and deminsia. The authentic love and concern she had for us both was astonishing. Also i felt she took this case as seriously as we did. She not only helped restore my grandmothers condition but she even would send personal emails and calls to check on her progress. At the time dr wingrove was the lead neurologist for austin neurology and sleep associates. Which was great for us because she boasted 125 five star reviews over there, however we would wait for an appointment there scheduled @ 9am for 2 or 3 hours the center was very over booked and disorganized. So i was ecstatic to learn that Dr Wingrove decided to take a leap out and open her own neurology center, Optimize Neurology. At first i was taken a back by the idea that they no longer accepted insurance so i had to pay an out of pocket fee to be seen, but once i went to the new center i was HAPPY to pay considering i not only was seen on time but she spent nearly 2 hours with me and would have given me all the time i wanted to feel loved cared for and important to her.In the last five years not only have i become a patient personally but my husband too. Myself for migraines and my husband for a rare autoimmune disorder that causes confusion called hotchimotos encephalopathy. She not only treated us with the consistent kindness and diligence she has been known for but even more surprising she has fought the insurance company on our behalf on numerous occasions for us both regarding our different treatments required for wellness.Dr wingrove is intelligent kind considerate of your time, money and condition. She has compassion and is a forward thinker. She is persistent and a detective of sorts when it comes to neurology. She makes you feel like and shows results it actually is going to be ok:)its worth following her to her new location she is the best dr Ive ever known.
